Future Versions of Linux Small Biz Suite?

Novell's Small Business Development Team focuses on delivering real value
for small- to medium-sized businesses. Their strategy is to take Novell's
enterprise-level solutions (such as SLES and OES) and simplify, streamline,
and improve the software so the technology can be used in a SMB environment.
For example, in NLSBS 9, Novell's Small Business Development Team took the
SLES 9 software and made it easier and quicker to install and setup
GroupWise, eDirectory, and iManager.
For future Linux versions of the Small Business Suite, what simplifications,
improvements, and additional features would you like to see?

Hmm, interesting question, but sort of out of the scope here in a tech
support newsgroup.
You might consider reposting this over in:
novell.community.industry-specific.small-business
as that newsgroup is a good fit for this sort of query.
Then again, notwithstanding your hotmail address, you might be a Novell
person....

  • Novell Linux Small Business Suite vs Novell Small Business Suite

We are currently running Novell SBS 6, and it's getting a bit ragged, so I'm
    pondering upgrade.
As the IT guy here, I have a good background in Linux as well as NOVELL, so
    comfort level is about equal.
    1) What are the differances between the linux based SBS and Novell-based
    2) What is the projected support life of the Novell-based product? It seems
that Novell is moving towards linux, so perhaps the old DOS based product is
    dying?
I am a subscriber to DeveloperNet, so I have access to that level of tool,
but I'm looking for a bit of "been there, done that" feedback.
    Comments suggestions???
    Thanks!

    John,
Avoid NLSBS9 like the plague unless you have days and days of spare time on
your hands - at least until the so-called SP2 makes its appearance.
We took the decision to go from NetWare SBS6 to Linux SBS9 - and we are
    regretting it.
We admit we don't have the level of expertise you seem to have. We'd been
on NW for a few years and it was pretty-much rock solid. My boss always
said it was easy to install and didn't give you a hard time.
In the end, we had to get Tech Support in EMEA to virtually talk us through
a Groupwise upgrade over the phone. It was painful and it certainly isn't
described in any detail in the documentation (which is skimpy - though you
    may not need it).
Then we dicovered that iFolder and iPrint were missing.
We are now trying to do eDirectory authentication of Samba by following
AppNote 11788 - not the fault of Samba, but it's all falling apart at the
    seams again.
So now half of our IT is on NetWare and half is on Linux. Not a good place
    to be.
The first version of NLSBS9 has been over-marketed and simply isn't ready
yet - certainly not for NetWare users wanting to upgrade. You will see this
same opinion voiced by others in this forum - believe it!
    Regards.

  • Firefox goes into glitch mode. Please fix this for a future version.

I am having a problem and had this problem for a really long time. Firefox would enter glitch mode. Here is an example:
    http://www.factslides.com/
When I hit the next arrow, it would freeze for a second, and if I hit it multiple times, it would go to another page without me hitting the button. I would like this fixed for a future version.

  • FIFO Underruns in newer versions of Linux using the Ivy Bridge cpus

I have been getting consistent results from my Lenovo Z580 where an error will apear when upgrading to a newer version of linux past 3.15.8. More specifically a "[drm:cpt_serr_int_handler] *ERROR* PCH transcoder A FIFO underrun".  This also includes transcoder B.
I found the bug report https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/40952?p … sort2=desc  which near to the bottom of the page someone has stated building the kernel from git fixes the issue. There was aslo some reports on updating the bios to solve the issue but on the bios I have is current based on the lenovo support site http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product … s/DS100928.

Was there a change in the linux kernel options from 3.15.8?
Am I using / missing a module that I shouldn't / should be using for my cpu?

    Hi acothi,
I was getting the same error message for months. Linux kernel 3.16.3-1 finally fixed it for me. My system: Intel Ivy-Bridge i5-3570K CPU + Intel DH77DF Mobo with latest BIOS (dated 2013). Please update to latest kernel in [Core] and report back. However, I don't think that your SD card slot issues are directly related to this error message. I also recommend installing linux-lts kernel and adding a bootloader entry, so you can still be productive, even if the latest Linux kernel doesn't fix it for you.
Afaik, this error has nothing to do with kernel options, but was introduced by a usual kernel commit (and seems to be fixed upstream).
    Cheers,
    Tolga

In relation to my previous inquiry regarding inability to view a pdf file using Safari...
Is it possible that I can view other online bills from other website but not this particular bill from one specific website?

  • What kind of computer specs are required to smoothly run CS5 and future versions?

    Hello,
I'm in search of a new laptop for running CS5. I checked the Adobe site for system specs (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/design/tech-specs.html) and they look ridiculous -- I stopped reading at 1 GB RAM...
So my question is what should the system be like in order to smoothly run CS5 and the future versions CS6 and maybe even 7?   I read that there have been problems with i7 processors. Is it true?
    This far I have found:
    - nVidia Quadro graphics card (are there different versions of this? how much memory the card should have?)
    - 64bit Windows 7
    - memory? how much is sufficient? 6 GB? Memory type/speed specs?
    - processor? i5 or i7 or some else? (I'm in search of a laptop)
    - SSD HD drive or 7200 rpm HD?
Our company laptop brand is Dell and I tried to look for a suitable model. However, very few had the nVidia Quadro graphics card
    Usage:
The laptops are mostly used for website and DTP publishing, photo editing, drawing (=Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) but also for technical documentation (Framemaker). To some extent also video editing is done, but not yet very often. However, there are plans for this too. We also run MS SQL Express in some computers to run company-specific software. And of course the normal Office 2010 package. Virus scanner used is McAfee.

    Hello,
I too agree with the points Mylenium stated. We have discussed about multiple computers (desktop & laptop), but people don't like the mess it would cause in terms of file syncronization etc. And it would also mean double effort for the IT to maintain all the software updates etc. in that many computers. We do work quite a lot in meetings etc. and work and collaborate directly with using these programs. So it would mean double work to first make notes in a meeting and then do work in another computer according to the notes. So the decision of using a good laptop is not random but thought.
Our current laptops were selected in the CS2 era and they have survived well updates up to CS4. I haven't yet tested what CS5.5 would do in terms of performance and usability. The idea of changing and configuring a computer every year according to the latest models and software requirements does not sound good. That's why I stated the point that the computer to be selected should survive at least a few CS updates.
SSDs. I don't see them pricely at all. We've changed SSDs to the current laptops and they increased their lifetime by at least two years. Incredible increase in speed! I really do recommend SSDs and would not even consider using mechanical drives anymore. In general I don't see the price of the laptop as problem -- it costs a lot more to configure and install the computer than the price of the computer. And if the computer is slow and/or needs to be changed often to a new model, it costs even more in lost employee performance.
    So conclusion up to now:
    - Win 7 64 bit
    - 8 GB memory
    - SSD drive
    - min i5 processor
    - Graphics card? Mobile Quadro NVS 3100M?
So the current computer model could be:
    Dell E6410
    - Intel Core™ i7-640M
    - NVIDIA® NVS 3100M 512MB gDDR3
    - 14.1” WXGA+ LED Display (1440x900)
    - 8 GB dual channel DDR3 memory, 1 333 MHZ
    - 128 GB SSD

  • How to get my Oracle EBS version (on linux)

    Hello,
do you know how to get Oracle EBS version (on linux)?
    Thanks!

    Ok, now i'm confused...
    cat /etc/redhat-release For linux version.
    httpd -version for Apache version.
For application release, you can get that from the DB. Query fnd_product_groups or you can get that from Help -> About page.

  • Adding ability to use ref cursors in future versions of Apex

Currently it has been documented that Apex does not play well with ref cursors and how to get around that. Is this a feature that the Apex team is looking into for future versions? Currently we are using Oracle 11g and 1 g with Apex 4.0.2. Your reply is most appreciated.
    JudJasRis

    Hi Tony Miller,
Thank you for the prompt reply. I see your name in many of the replies in this Apex forum.
We currently have several package functions that use out ref cursors. We are looking to use the result of that ref cursor for our reports. We have found a way to get around the ref cursor by creating a table collection of the row type and return it in a specific function declaration in a pipelined function. I am fairly new to creating pkgs, functions and specifically pipeline functions as well as learning the many nooks and crannies of Apex. It would be nice to be able to call a predefined ref cursor within Apex. I was just curious if that was a feature that could be developed. Please excuse my lack of knowledge, I am learning though by asking these type of questions.
    Again thank you.

    Hi,
My company is trying to setup/install ESSBASE 11.1.X and HFM and Planning products in Windows Small Business Server 2011.
Is this OS is a supported platform for these products ? Can these softwares be installed in the Windows Small Biz server 2011 without any issues ?

If you're referring to 11.1.2.1 (emphasis on the .1) SBS 2011 integrates Windows 2008 R2 64bit Standard which is a supported platform for Hyperion so it should not have any issues and be fully supported: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/Windows-Small-Business-Server/editions.aspx
HFM 11.1.2 only supports Windows 2008 (not R2)
