Fuzzy / blurry fonts

New to MAC from PC but...
All the fonts are blurry / fuzzy on my mini. Tested with 2 different monitors connected via Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter.
After few hours of using it I have headache. I did searched for a solution but no luck.
I need to see individual pixels.
...this, what I get, is not acceptable and is deal breaker for me.

This is the closest I could found on the web:
Run from the terminal:
*defaults write -g AppleAntiAliasingThreshold 128*
Is this the biggest Apple secret that you can't get from calling apple, escalating the case to the specialist or by visiting Apple store?

  • Fuzzy / Blurry Font on Unibody macbook (late 2008)

I have have recently started using my wife's macbook as my macbook air died. On the air the text was always clear and crisp. On the unibody macbook the text is blurry on screen. I have compared it to my colleagues previous generation Air. The funny thing is that when running VMWARE and using windows 7 the font display is crisp and smooth whereas in OS X (snow leopard 10.6.4) font display is blurry and fuzzy (ok i over exaggerate a little bit but it is enough to drive me nuts). The second thing that makes me think it is a software error is the fact that the AIR and this Macbook both use the same resolution screen.
I tried disabling fonts in the font book to no avail...
I have played with font smoothing and it also does not help.
The scary thing (and to my dread) is that windows on this machine handles the display better Surely Mac OS X must be able to do it as well (as it is the native operating system.
Does anyone have pointers? Should i do a clean reinstall? Can i reinstall video drivers or reset all font appearances to there default values.
    Help!!!

    Dear Forum members,
I encountered the same problem. Bought my new MAX pro 13' yesterday
I bought a MAC because it is known for its picture quality.
I am curious. Did you find a solution already ?
    Thanks

  • Blurry fonts on the screen - Windows 8.1- Framemaker 12

I installed a group of adobe fonts bought in 2002 in Windows 8.1 by clicking every .PFM file and clicking on the install button. Everything seems fine. According to the Microsoft support knowledge base, the .PFM file should be in the windows-->fonts directory. And they are at the right place. Each font comes with two files with different  file extension : a .PFM and a .PFB file extension but I cannot see the .PFB files. Is it normal ?
The question : why my fonts look so blurry on the screen, I simply cannot work.
    Thank you.

As long as both the PFM and PFB files are in the same folder, they should be properly installed when you right-click on the PFM file and select the Install option. The PFM file contains the metrics for the font, while the PFB file contains the glyph outlines in a binary format.
Type 1 fonts are supported through the Windows GDI (graphics device interface). There where issues with GDI+ and the newer WPF ( Windows Presentation Foundation) used in newer applications doesn't support Type 1 fonts.
For your specific Type 1 fonts, you should switch to the TTF equivalents supplied with Windows 8.1, e.g. TimesNewRoman, Arial, Courrier New. These contain unicode encodings and have substantially more glyphs available than in the old Type 1s (which were code-page specific and restricted to 255 glyphs), i.e. time to retire the old ones.
Also, if you try an online search, you'll find that there are quite a number of issues with Win8 and fuzzy, blurry font rendering, e.g.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/poor-font-rendering -in-windows-8-blurry-text/f52a2002-d748-485c-8b9c-4862806ea94a

  • Fuzzy, blurry vision in Yosemite...

I thought my vision had suddenly taken a turn for the worse... but as others have mentioned elsewhere, ever since upgrading to OS X 10.10 Yosemite a lot of the fonts and icons (Menu Bars,..etc) have gone fuzzy, blurry. Strange thing is though, it comes and goes, correcting itself somehow. How does it look fine one moment and then out of focus the next? Restart helps sometimes. I've also tried some of the suggestions such as "Reduce transparency" (System Prefs>Accessibility>Display>) but that only seems to lighten the background, whereas "Increase contrast" also reduces the jaggies, sharpens the edge of fonts. Other then that, it seems there's not much to be done about it if you're using an older model/display other then switch to another font. Is it the same with latest 21.5 & 27 in. iMac's? Is the Retina 5K display the only model unaffected by this change in font?

I'm having this problem as well. Brand new MacBook Pro, 15" running Yosemite 10.10.1. It is not ONLY fonts, as noted, but some icons, even the red, yellow, green circles in the upper left corner to expand, minimize, and close windows. But only in SOME applications. (Microsoft Office being one suite, though not the only. Some Adobe applications and others as well.) The very same red/yellow/green icons and other menu bar items appear fine in other applications. (Chrome, the Finder, numerous others.) The visual is like it is pixelated or low-resolution. With regard to fonts, it harkens back to the days when it meant you were missing a screen font. But again, this is not solely with regard to fonts.
I've also reduced transparency and tried turning off LCD font smoothing, as suggested by many. No difference. This is pretty awful. The issue with the menus and icons is irritating but not debilitating. The issue with text, however, renders some core applications (such as Microsoft Word where text is the core of the application) — and therefore the computer itself — essentially unusable.
Please tell me this is being fixed! Has anyone seen a response from Apple anywhere? A solution that works not only for fonts against transparency?

  • Fuzzy/blurry

    Hi
I have been asking about this before but now the situation has changed.
My problem is a known problem for other people aswell.
    Here it goes:
I am using IE 11 ( the latest updated ) and before the update i used IE 8 due the text on ect youtube or other sites that used IE text for standart was getting blurry/fuzzy and ruined my eyes and hurts my head reading the text. This was when i had AMD radeon
7950 card. Now i have a nvidia gtx 970 card but the problem with blurry/fuzzy text is still here..even this text is horrible to watch.
Then i tryed to use google crome and it helped a littel bit..only here the text appers a bit more gray and background like. And still a littel bit fuzzy.
Now today i instaled firefox and the text is SUPER FINE like it should be..back when i had IE 8.Nice and relaxing to read..NO FUZZY/BLURRY !!!
So why has  IE 9, 10 and 11 and even Crome messed up the text so bad that people must have glasses or increase the windows system to use 125 % or worse in order to read the text like a old man who cant see well.
I heard it should be related with some kind of direct draw X font that should be better, but why did they create something so horrible that it is roulette if you get blurry/fuzzy text with ur setup and hardware. Maybe Bill gates wants every one to buy
glasses in year 2020 so we can look like him

    Hi,
    there's the problem...
nothing to do with clear type because i have turned it off.
turn it back on and adjust its settings to your preferences (there is a wizard that allows you to tune it).

  • Blurry font after switching from WinXP to Win 7 (Was:Schrift im Dreamweaver CS 3  verschwommen)

<Preran> For the benefit of moderators here, I used Google to translate your content into English:
    Good day,
I have problems with blurry font in Dreamweaver CS3 after switching from Windows XP to Windows 7
I have already tried the following:
In "Edit" Preferences "change font size" - unfortunately that does not work. (which had worked fine in the previous changeover to Windows XP)
Then I got in the forum www. office-loesungen.de the tip, sometimes seen on the control panel display, which percentage is set.
When I got the set to the mean value, the writing was not so blurry, but still not really readable.
Experiments with Clear adjust TypeText were not successful.
There is a trick, so the font is larger
If I have to "small" hinders the size that was at 0.75 in the previous pages, it is readable for me, so I could enter the text and read it.
However, the text is then when uploading larger.
    What can I do now?
For speedy help I would be grateful
    Best regards
    Guten Tag,
    Renate Gundel

I've done this multiple times and it produces essentially the same message, but there is a mention that a restart is pending. This is also strange because this is definitely not the case. First time I used CScleaner it took a while and was obviously busy correcting something. However now when I select clean all, it simply dumps anopther massive log file into AppData and says cleaning completed successfully. Now I just ran it again, so would you like me to post the more recent log file?

  • Fuzzy/blurry text in Pages documents (tables)

    Hi,
I was wondering if any of you guys have experienced this problem:
I upgraded to Pages 13 a while ago. Whenever I print text that is in a table, the letters are slightly fuzzy/blurry. Text outside a table is crisp and appears normal.
Any idea what may be causing this?
    Best,
    Johan

My thought was that, in the interest of finding a solution, posting my findings in Numbers could be helpful. After all, Numbers and Pages have a lot of similarities. In fact the way the tables work (where this problem lies) seems to be nearly identical. That post in another forum would certainly not benefit BuzzerRover in any way, but in here it might.
In response to PeterBreis0807, yes, I have tried both changing the CMYK when selecting the cell itself, and also when selecting the text inside the cell. In both cases, upon reselecting the cell and attempting to change the color (making sure the color change button is blue), the CMYK cells had reverted to other values. Gray Scale changes did seem to stick, but did not rectify the printing issue. In the interest of adhering to forum rules, this was tested on tables in both Numbers and Pages.
In addition, this printing issue does not seem to affect inserted images, which print beautifully, or even text outside of tables, as BuzzerRover mentioned. Also, it only seems to happen when printing to my HP LaserJet 400 color, but not when I print to my Canon copier.
I hope this helps shed some light on this in some way.

  • Blurry fonts in korganizer 3.5.5 [testing]

    Hello,
Since I updated KDE to 3.5.5, korganizer is acting weird. It's fonts are blurry and the start command (korganizer --import %u) doesn't work anymore, I had to change it to korganizer only. Anyone else is having these problems?
    Regards,
    Gustavo
EDIT: The blurry fonts must be caused by the new freetype.

GO to SE73 in BI system and change the system fonts it will automatically reflect in WAD.

  • IPod video fuzzy/blurry and juddrey when played back on video editors

i have recorded many videos on my ipod before but the most recent videos have become fuzzy/blurry when i have uploaded them onto video editors i have tried many different editors but all of them made the video qulity poor, fuzy and juddery. when i play them back on my ipod or PC there absolutly fine but as soon as they are in a video editor the become fuzzy.

(PAL would be less than 768x576 pixels)
BUT...why do commercial DVDs (i.e. the ones I rent from Blockbuster) look ok on my laptop? Do they use better compression or something?
A little "better compression" and a lot of "something".
Yes, commercial DVDs are produced by better compressors, but the primary reason for better quality is better original content. Commercial DVDs aren't shot with consumer DV camcorders, while they are shot using a tripod and carefully lit.
MPG-2 works by looking at image frame to image frame variations - things like camera shake and noise due to poor lighting can cause major frame to frame differences in the video stream causing MPG-2 artifacts.
In addition, the commercial content is just a lot sharper to start with - better lenses, 3 chip cameras with more pixels than DV camcorders, as well as no compression of the shot footage (DV stream content is compressed about 4:1).
It the old computer saying: GIGO
    Garbage In - Garbage Out
Now I'm confused! If a monitor has more pixels shouldn't it give a better picture?
Only if your source image has the same number of pixels. Your DVD only has (PAL) 768x576 pixels and if you 'blow them up' to something like 1280x1024 (or larger) on your computer monitor the image with 768x576 pixels will look very soft.

  • Mac mini (2012) blurry font

I purchased my 3rd mac mini  this week; a 2012 late model. I previously owned a 2006 & 2009 model. None of my previous models had this issue. Some of the font looks incredibly blurry and gray. The mac is connected via HDMI. I've been through all the settings in display  (over scan/ smooth font) and no combination of these settings affect the blurry font display with the acception of selecting "No Overscan". Selecting "No Overscan" REDUCED the blurry font, but failed to eliminate it. Selecting "No Overscan" also had the adverse effect of expanding the display beyond the visible boundaries of my monitor so that is not an option. I've tested different HDMI cables and a completely different monitor. Nothing has solved this issue.
I am running 10.4.8. My previous macs all displayed fonts sharp and crisp. I've also read that using an HDMI / DVI adpter works in some cases. Neither of my monitors have a DVI connection....
    Any input is appreciated.

I have looked through those threads along with a few others. It appears that the best luck people have had is using a dvi / hdmi converter. However I don't believe this is possible as neither of my monitors have a dvi output. I've read that updating to 10.8.3 fixed this for a handful of users; but again, I'm running 10.8.4.
Also, I find it odd that when I turn underscan off, the visible screen expands beyond the viewing pane of my monitor. Shouldn't it fit perfectly when I have 1080P selected? Not all the font is as blurry as others. Some font is extremely blurry, and some font looks fine.
Edit: Underscan (off) would make the font "acceptable", but it just stretches the image off my monitor, so I can't disable underscan. While it would be acceptable, it still has a blur effect to some font. With underscan on, the font is horrendous. That's not an exaggeration.

  • Thin vertical black lines and somewhat blurry fonts

I was using the App store when all of a sudden my screen goes into a trange whitish background. I rebooted the laptop when when it came back on it is fuzzy in the fonts are a little blurry with small black lines running vertically across the entire screen. Could anyone help? Its a macbok pro 2009.

  • Fuzzy/blurry text in Captivate 7

    Hi alll,
We recently upgraded from Captivate 6 -> 7. Usually we use transparent text boxes for text, and when publishing in Captivate 7, the text gets blurry/fuzzy, regardless of color, size, font etc. We had the same problem in an earlier version of Captivate (I think maybe it was Captivate 3), and the workaround then was to highlight at least one charachter within each text box, but this does not work in Captivate 7.
Funny thing is that if I just drag the generated .htm file into my browser window, the text is crisp and clear, but when I run the same module from our LMS, it all gets blurry and fuzzy.
Any help to avoid this would be very appreciated.

Captivate text displaying blurry has been an issue since day one. I've had to deal with it and spend dozens of hours of R&D to try to figure it out... and as you see I'm still searching for an answer. It seems soooo simple but it must be extremely complex because Adobe just can't figure it out! It was the same thing in Flash. We are a global org producing e-learning for fortune 500 companies and at one point Captivate was our most used tool. Due to this issue and a bunch of others, our shop is now doing 75% of our projects in Storyline, 20% in Lectora, and we have ZERO clients asking for Captivate for the last 2 years. When a client spends tens of thousands of dollars on a project, they don't want to have to look at blurry, jagged text. I wish it wasn't this way because I am a highly experienced Cp developer now having to learn Storyline. But Adobe has either ignored this issue or just cannot fix it. In the image below, you can see the differences in the way Captivate displays text and the horrifying difference between Cp and Flash that I just don't get. That one causes a huge issue when we drop Flash stuff in a Cp slide and are required to stay consistent with font type and size.
Keep in mind, the problem everyone is frustrated about is mainly text that uses Transparent style caption. It appears better when in a styled caption bubble. The blurry text issue can be somewhat fixed by applying a white highlight on all the text. Although, it is still not what we are looking for. And, this extra step in development is painful, costly, and there is always a few that we miss and then we get complaints, etc.
Man, that first one is just nasty!
One last thing I discovered that works, but not all of the time, is that if you create a dummy variable with no value, then put your text in a transparent text caption, add a few spaces at the end and then insert that variable, you will see crisp, clean text as if it was html. Again, too much work and not a consistent solution!!
Hope that helps for those who are new to captivate, and for those like me, who have lost too many hours of precious life and money on this.
See ya, have to continue my Storyline training now...

  • All the artwork in Album View in iTunes is fuzzy/blurry unless i repeatedly delete the cache.

I recently bought a new laptop and transferred all my itunes tracks onto the new one from an external. Everything is fine, but in album list all the thumbnails are fuzzy and blurry. They album covers show up sharp in every other view such as coverflow, preview pane and grid view as well as on the ipod, but are fuzzy in album view. Some one suggested deleting the artwork cache to allow iTunes to rebuild it.I deleted it and reopened iTunes and found that this worked perfectly and all my artwork became sharp again. But if I close iTunes and reopen it, all the artwork wgoes back to being fuzzy and  stays that way until I deleted the cache again. It only fixes it as long as I dont close out iTunes.  How can I make them sharp again permanently like on my old laptop? (All my artwork is manually added and does not come from iTunes)

    Responding to your request here.
I can't say it's a problem I've noticed personally, though now you've made me look it does seem that the large thumbnail is slightly fuzzier than the same image in the artwork panel. I have the artwork panel as small as it goes (small screen) and it is still slightly larger than the image in the browser so that might be all there is to it.
Here's an example from my screen.
Perhaps iTunes is storing a thumbnail at say "medium" size which it then blows up to create the large image. Are you seeing a similar effect or is your "fuzzy" art much fuzzier? A screenshot would be helpful.

  • Blurry fonts in iMac in Target Display Mode

When I connect Macbook Pro retina with iMac using Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable, and use iMac in Target Display Mode the text and fonts are really blurry.
It is the same text in Macbook:
    Text in iMac:
The resolution of iMac display is "Best for display", however, I have tried to change it without any success.
Does anyone has similar problem or anyone knows how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I have found an interesting regularity. If I open window (let's say PDF file) in Macbook Pro and drag it to iMac, then everything is okey. Unless I resize it. Once I resize it, it becomes blurry/smooth again.
Why had this problem and how to fix it?
Changing the resolution in Macbook Pro can help, but 1) I need to change the resolution in Macbook every time when I connect external monitor 2) I cannot resize windows in iMac 3) if I change resolution in Macbook Pro items become really small, so it is hard to see something.
    Please help!
