Fuzzy Fonts

When I try to use Borris for text in FCE, when the size gets too small, it gets fuzzy and is not sharp. I need to be able to make graphics for sports videos. Example:
Small picture of athlete inside a red box. The picture is on the left side, the font on the right. Joe Slama Jama, leads league in points. 2009 Rookie of the Year
How do the CG guys do it for the NBA and NFL? Are they just using better quality programs that are meant for HD tvs? None of my video is in HD, and is shot with a Sony MiniDV cheap-o $200 camera.
By the way, I LOVE THIS FORUM...it always gets my creative juices flowing when I read what others are doing.

So is the solution to buy a better quality camera? Perhaps a HD camera like you can buy at the big box stores? I was thinking of upgrading to either Flash drive or hard drive cameras that shoot in HD. They are around $500 each. I am very picky about my work and I can only afford what I can afford, but I want the most bang for my buck.
Back ground - I shoot for the local roller derby league, and the lower quality graphics are fine when you are watching at home with the team, and they know what is going on, but there is talk of having it aired on one of the local channels as a paid program. I use the cheaper cameras because I use 4 of them to cover the action (I am the only shooter) and when the rollergirls crash into one and it breaks, its cheap to replace.
I am also using a GoPro as the ref's helmet cam and the quality of that footage makes my current cameras look like crapola.

Toshiba hasnt released new drives for Nvidia 330M either...any help appreciated.

Sorry if i sounded 'bother-some' :) I just cant help my self get into problems and solve them.( with computers that is) well you're not the only one who says it...when you mess with it a lot. it gives few issues but then you learn a lot. Maybe i should stop this 'abuse'
*Well, fuzzy fonts, well, fonts are bit hard to read or fuzzy. My other work toshiba doesnt have the issue ( older model). Quite a few people on the internet have had this issue. If you have the same model and use IE9 with (NVIDIA G330M) please do give me some feedback. Can you also tell me the driver version of you GPU?*
Have you upgraded to IE9?- yes i have used chrome it's fine so was IE 8. I am in half mind to revert back to ie8.
What i read so far is its how IE is rendering fonts. A new techonology, so says MS.
    Kindest regards,

  • Macbook pro 13' 2011 external diaplay fuzzy font

    Hi,
I connected the mbp thru displayport-vga to my DELL SP2208WFP and the font of the applications on DELL monitor is fuzzy. I use native resolution for the monitor and also tried font smoothing through terminal commands but nothing works.
Similar problems I found here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1111167
Is there any solution to this problem?

  • Blurry/ fuzzy fonts in pdf  when export from indesign

    Hello all,
i have done alot of research/ readings via the internet (& forum) but i still can't find a solution to this:
    - I have saved my pdfs (line drawings, texts, graphics) in illustrator.
    - i 'place' them into Indesign.
    - In indesign, i click 'export', 'adobe pdf (print)', ' high quality print'.
Result: the texts on the embedded pdfs are fuzzy. I have used 2 fonts- one is fine & editable in the exported pdf (garamond);  only 'arial' seems rasterized & fuzzy.
    What have i tried:
    - i tried exporting as 'pdf X 1a 2001' settings as it is mentioned that it is good for printing.
    - i have tried  clicking 'do not downsample' in all the 'compression categories'.
    -  i have also checked 'find font', to see if the 'arial' is true font. It is.
What else can i do? kindly advise. Thank you in advance.
    *software:
    adobe cs5
    Best,
    Jessica

    Oh no...
    i see your point now.
That text is from the usual font folder.
    - i checked in illlustrator: 'type', 'find font', 'arial'; whereelse in Indesign, it is 'arial regular'.
    - In control panels, 'font' folder, i see i only have 1 arial regular file, so both illustrator & indesign should have the same 'arial regular'...
OK UPDATE: I GOT IT RIGHT NOW:
    - In illustrator file, to create pdf: 'print', 'printer: cutepdfwriter', 'output', 'printer resolution: 100lpo1200dpi' (initially it was 72lpi), and 'graphics', 'fonts: download'- 'none' (initally: subset).
I don't know which made it work: Pinrter resolution or fonts download.
But now i could edit the illustrator pdf 'arial' font; and when placed in indesign to export, it is not blurry anymore.
Never knew something like this can make such a big difference, thank you Bob!
**but can you let me know what was it i changed that made it worked as well? thanks!
    Jess

  • Blurry/fuzzy fonts on external display (Dell 2209WA)

Hi, I recently bought a Dell 2209WA and I'm not too happy with how the fonts are displayed on it. All the fonts seems blurry/fuzzy/jagged.
I have tried to change the sharpness of the display as well as the font smoothing style(I get best results on Medium) in OSX. It gets a little bit better with these settings than with the defaults but far from good.
I'm running the display on a black MacBook through DVI, native resolution 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz.
    Anybody else with this problem?

I'm not sure if my problem is related, but I'm also connecting my MacBook to a Dell LCD panel via the mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter and I'm getting weird on-screen artifacts and intermittent flickering.
There's a known problem if you're using the mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter and Apple has provided a firmware update to fix the problem. If you're using that (and connecting to your Dell monitor via an additional VGA-to-DVI dongle, then you might want to grab the update.
But as far as I know, there doesn't seem to be a solution for the DVI adapter.

  • Mac applications have blurry/fuzzy fonts and other display issues

About two days ago my MBP display started acting funny. To start, I noticed my itunes font started going blurry. The words in Word are fuzzy as well. Other apps like firefox and safari I can read just fine. Next, I noticed this (http://i.imgur.com/Hfhq0.png) happening. When I move a window in any application the window would automatically start getting larger. Next, this (http://i.imgur.com/6ySCT.png) became an issue. Notice the white at the bottom of the box. Finally this (http://i.imgur.com/wYdUe.png) reared it ugly head in firefox. I have no idea what's going on. Other forums and google have been no help at all and you guys are my final hope. If you need any more information please let me know. Thanks in advance for saving my baby.

OK I don't use a two-button mouse but control-click brings up that window for me and it displays fine just pulling the background image as the border with no white space ...
I'd guess it's something related to the background image you're using, have you tested the effect when you go back to a plain colour or an Apple supplied background ? What format is the image you've set as background png, jpg or something unusual ?

  • Fuzzy fonts with IE9 (Nvidia) -W764

I have a toshiba A660 with Nvidia G330M. ONce i upgraded to ie9 fonts on FB have become quite fuzzy and hard to read. I havw tried them fix but it does't work. Looks like it has something to do with drivers. It's very hard to read, any one any clue?
Can any one shed any feed back on this?

Thank you. The i tried the patch, or rather it came automatically, but it wasnt as good as when it was on compatibilty mode, but now, most sites (eg, FB) has no compatiblity setting for some reason ( the button dissapears).
I think i should mess more with the clear type setting, i tried it and it got worse ( as in fonts elswhere in windows too) so i gave up.
Maybe its not the best clear type setting I used any hints?

  • T60 and Win7: fuzzy fonts/text (Sreen: 1024x768)

    Hi everybody,
I installed Win7 on my T60 (1951) with SSD. Everything is fine. But:
The fonts and texts are fuzzy. I worked on that problem for two days: Clear Type etc. Now it's acceptable, but far from the sharpness of WinXP.
Does everyone went my way: Win7 on the T60 and has the same issue?
Perhaps it's the terrible screen: 1024x768. I wanted to replace it with a panel with higher resolution but it didn't work - told me my display expert.
Has anyone some suggestions for me? Or is Win7 just like that? Do I have to accept this?

Did you run windows update and lenovo system update? Are you sure the Intel or ATI drivers are properly installed?
Could you also please post the 7 digit number from your notebook? You're missing the three digits after "1951"
I'm running Windows 7 in two of my 14.1" T6''s and never had any problem.
P.S. You can upgrade your screen to 1400x1050, regardless of the graphic card you have.

  • InDesign CS3 - PDF = fuzzy font, and random bold

    Hello,
When I print straight from InDesign CS3, Garamond font looks fine. When I export to PDF, then print from Acrobat Professional 8, version 8.1.2, the Garamond font is not as crisp-looking. Also, when I print the PDF from Acrobat, there are a 2 or 3 lines of Garamond text (seemingly randomly dispersed among the rest of the text, although they're the same lines every time) that actually look like they're bold, even though they're not, in the original.
The fonts seem to be embedded. I am printing to a Ricoh Aficio MP C2500 PCL6 printer in both cases. I am running Windows XP Professional (Version 5.1) Service Pack 2.
This happens when I print in color. When I print in black and white, everything looks pretty crisp from Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Thanks so much for your help.

    Andrea,
I just got back from school and took a look at what you sent.
Number one, you haven't used the same settings when exporting as distilling, and I don't know what they were in either case. Can you let us know. The distilled PDF (Printed to PDF) is in RGB, the exported is in CMYK.
Number two, I've printed the exported PDF to my PCL monochrome laser and my Xerox Phaser 790 which is a genuine postscript printer, and they both show jagged type, which is due to the color being only 95% black, and no emboldening anywhere.
Number three, I've exported a couple of PDFs myself, and they also show the font embedded in both regular and CID encoded subsets, which is not surprising since there are ligatures, but in my attempts there are only two subsets, one for the first line (not CID) and the CID subset for the remainder. In your export, the five lines are each a separate subset and text object. Your distilled version has three subsets, but only one text object, mine are also a single text object.
At this point I don't know if the differences in the my PDFs are due to settings or the font itself. My Garamond font is TrueType flavored OpenType, version 2.30 from Monotype. The actual filename is GARA.TTF.
Can you tell us what settings you are using to both export and print these PDFs? I must say, though, that I think your fuzzies are the color tint, and the bolding problems are probably the print driver since I don't see them here.

  • ACER AL1916W fuzzy font. Not sure how to fix it!

    Hey everyone,
I recently re-attached my ACER AL1916W monitor to my Macbook and i seem to be having issues with the clarity. When I watch videos the quality is sound but smaller things like the fonts and the toolbar seem to have a shadow. It almost looks like a rippled water effect.
If anyone has any troubleshooting solutions please let me know!
    Thanks a lot!

If it's a VGA attachment, another thing to try is to Auto tune the monitor. There should be instructions with Acer on how to do this. Sometimes there is a shortcut, meaning a button labeled AUTO right on the front of the monitor.

  • Fuzzy fonts on overlays

Using Minion Pro 16px (opentype). Looks great on pages without overlays but is fuzzy on ones with overlays. Is there a way around this?

Are you viewing on a iPad retina display?
Is it just the overlay text that is fuzzy?
Is your folio dimensions 1024px by 768px?
It sounds like your creating a 1024px by 768px PDF folio and viewing it on a retina display iPad (iPad 2 and greater). This will render pages as PDFs with vector text (looks good) and overlays as images at the standard iPad resolution (looks bad b/c low resolution).
If this is true, try creating a iPad Retina Rendition (dimensions 2048px by 1536px) and adding your article to that folio. This will export those overlays to the correct resolution.
Good luck and let me know if it works!

  • Fuzzy Buttons

I seem to be having a possible variation of the fuzzy font
problem. Whenever I test a movie, the "over state" of my buttons
appear fuzzy. This does not happen on the stage when simple buttons
are enabled. It only happens when I test the movie. Any ideas what
    the problem/solution might be?

I am using Captivate 4.  I have the same problem in one project I created, but not in another!  I can't figure this out--to me, there is no difference between my two files.  Both buttons launch a URL and the only difference I can find is that the URL, the text and location of the buttons are different between the two projects.
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.  The work around is more work--which would be to use images instead of the text, and then a click box over it.

  • How do you get fonts to look normal after upgrade to snow leopard

fuzzy or blurred on both imac and external acer 24 inch monitor.
anyone know how to get them back to normal?

I was having the problem of fuzzy fonts in Terminal (which I use a lot, being a UNIX guy). I use 14 pt Bold Courier New a lot, and it was fuzzy after my SL upgrade on a 21" iMac (2 Ghz dual core). I finally discovered the "antialias text" button in the Terminal preferences. In my case it was turned on for all of my terminals that had fuzzy fonts. I unclicked this button in all of my terminal preferences, and voila, clear fonts again.

  • 10.4.7 Font Display

Since updating to 10.4.7 I've noticed that fonts displayed on my browser seem a little chunkier and fuzzier than usual. I've checked both Mozilla Firefox and Safari and it's the same.
Has anyone else had this issue - or maybe know how to resolve it? So many sites now seem to use a bolder, fuzzier font it's really quite annoying.

This is definitely sounding like a 10.4.7 induced problem. I first noticed it on starting a PowerPoint document on a train en route to a meeting, and then having to sit through 20 minutes of clicking OK as it reported how DOZENS of my fonts were corrupted and should be removed. Since then I also noticed that Mail's default font, and those in many other programs, had changed to a blockier or harder to read font. I came home, and quietly dragged the Fonts folder from my external cloned backup and did a restart. No joy, the problem remained. I started Word and it too reports the same fonts as corrupted, though the Fonts folder was copied from the external drive. Something in 10.4.7 either changed how applications access some fonts or did something else to them.
Apple's updates are getting buggier every time, more like Windows.
    Imran
