Fuzzy, pixelated, too thin or too bold fonts

I have this weird problem with Firefox. Some fonts seems to be too thin/bold, and a little fuzzy and pixelated.
This is especially for fonts of some links. For example, results on trovaprezzi.it. In this case it looks a little too bold as you can see here http://img.techpowerup.org/140723/gross.jpg
I have similar problem also with the scroll bar when you right-click on a Firefox window.
This is the Firefox scroll bar http://i59.tinypic.com/rm74pj.jpg
This is the Windows 7 scroll bar http://i62.tinypic.com/294nxu9.jpg
If you look very close, can see that the Firefox one seems to be more "thin"
I tried with the gfx.direct2d.disabled on true, but then the font of Bookmarks toolbar and other bars, looks weird and very fuzzy if you don't use defaul skin.

The first one is this site? http://www.trovaprezzi.it/prezzo_schede-grafiche_gtx_780_ti.aspx
That looks smoother to me, also on Windows 7 64-bit. (Screen shot attached)
Do you have ClearType fully enabled at the Windows system level? This article might be helpful: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-text-easier-read-cleartype#1TC=windows-7

  • Safari 3 font too bold

    I have scoured Google and this forum and find no one talking about this, yet I have seen it on several machines: Safari 3 is making my bold fonts "crazy bold"...
    The problem does not exist in Safari 2, and removing the bold just makes the font look regular (as you would expect it to look without a bold attribute). I even tried using numeric bold values (100-900), but they all display the same.
    Any thoughts on what this issue might be and, more importantly, how to resolve it?
    I'm having the problem on Mac OS X and Safari 3 only (IE6/7, FF2/3, and Safari 2 all look just fine (and Safari 3 on PC looks fine too)).
    Many thanks,
    Atg

    In all cases, the font is supposed to be Arial Bold. The problem could be either corrupt font cache files, or the fonts themselves. For a possible easy fix, download and run Font Finagler to clear the system's font cache files.
    If that doesn't do it, try putting a fresh copy of your OS X supplied fonts back on the hard drive. The instructions on how to do that without reinstalling the entire OS are at the bottom of my article, Font Management in OS X. Clear the font cache files again after reinstalling the fonts.

  • Bold font is too wide in browsers

    I actually have Linux Mint installed, but searching google indicates that the Archlinux forum has far and away the most expertise with the gnome font system, including a very informative wiki page that I have read and tried to apply, unfortunately to no avail.
    The reason I'm asking this question is that I feel like I'm so close to having a gorgeous desktop, but what looks like a rendering error looks like it may frustrate me every time I surf the web.
    I've used advanced settings (which I installed following a tutorial) to set my system font to Sawasdee, which looks very good. In fact, I would call Sawasdee the best looking screen font, by my personal preference, that I've ever used.My problem is that bold text is too thick, but pretty much only in browsers, chrome and firefox.
    The Sawasdee font family has a great bold but for one reason or another that is not what is rendering, instead it looks like the browsers are taking the regular, elegant Sawasdee font and making it two or three times as wide.
    Is there a setting just to tell the system how to handle bold text?
    Below is a link to an image of the linux mint forum where I think the text that is not bold looks close to perfect, but the text that is bold looks almost unreadable:
    http://imgur.com/owffN.png
    Below is how the fonts look in the system and how firefox renders them:
    http://i.imgur.com/MXbuM.png
    It seems to me that the problem is that the applications are making their own bold font instead of using the one available. I wonder if I could rename a file or alter a config line somewhere to correct that.
    So far, I've added this to an /etc/fonts/local.conf file that I made using the header from font.conf but it did not help
    <match target="font">
        <test name="weight" compare="more">
            <const>medium</const>
        </test>
        <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
            <bool>false</bool>
        </edit>
    </match>
    I really appreciate any help I can get.  If there is more information that might be helpful, I am eager to provide it.

    Sorry but we can give assistance for original Arch Linux only. Please ask on a Linux Mint forum for detailed help.
    But there is quite some information about your issue in the Arch forums and the wiki. Some quick search should help.

  • In Indesign CS6 I export an artboard to  TIFF with the sdk's funtion SnapshotUtilsEx- ExportImageToTIFF(iStream) and, the resulting file is one pixel too large in the X, leaving a transparent strip on one edge. Any idea if there is a bug in the sdk?

    In Indesign CS6 I export an artboard to  TIFF with the sdk's funtion SnapshotUtilsEx->ExportImageToTIFF(iStream) and, the resulting file is one pixel too large in the X, leaving a transparent strip on one edge. Any idea if there is a bug in the sdk?

    An easy example to prove this bug of Indesing CS6:  I create a psd with Photoshop CS6, with width 505 pixels, height 317 pixels and a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. This psd is placed on a page in InDesign CS6. Then I try to export it as a tiff with the functions:
    fSnapshotUtilsEx->Draw(flags,fullResolutionGraphics,greekBelowPtSize,enableAntiAliasing,tr ansparencyQuality,abortCheck,pVPAttrMap,bDrawNonPrintingObjects);
    and
    SnapshotUtilsEx-> ExportImageToTIFF (iStream)
    The resulting tiff has a width of 506 pixels (one pixel more in width). It will happen the same if we start with a width of 507 pixels, etc.
    This error does not occur with Indesign CS5, nor Indesing CC.

  • Is 2030 pixel too with for a browser fill??

    I need a painting as browser fill.
    I've tried 1400x1738 and hakked for "tile" and "position" to the left and for "scrolling" in the fill optinon in Muse
    But when I publisher the site, it comes a line about 30 cm on the right side, where the image begins again .... (so you see a litte part of the image again in right side)
    It doesn't look good.
    Then I have tried 1700 px in width, but this doesn't help either.
    Then I tried 2030x1738 pixels and now it looks pretty good. But is the with with 2030 pixel too with for the browser??
    I have a phone issue of the homepage, so I have not to think about the phone browser.

    If you don't want to use scale to fit or scale to fill for some reason, and you want the image to be wide enough to fill every possible browser background, then you'll need a very large image.
    Since you don't control how big a user sizes their browser window, some users with very large monitors, or users who stretch their browser window across 2 monitors might have a browser window 4000 pixels wide. Usually 'scale to fill' or 'scale to fit' is the option you want to use to fill the browser background with a single non-tiled image.

  • I have too much fonts installed in my computer.

    In may computer I have many programas that installed fonts, like Photoshop, Corel Draw, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and others. There are hundreds of fonts installed, and the performance is going down.
    I want to delete ALL the fonts and then install only a small group of fonts, and that is the suggestion I need from you: suggest a small group of fonts, just the essencial fonts and some decoratives that I should use.
    thanks in advance!

    thanks everybody.
    I still think it is possible to clean the list of fonts. There are too much installed, and many that I dont use, like chinese, arabian and many many others.
    My computer is good, the performance is not bad, but when I select the text tool, there is a dely to show the tool, I think it is because the sistem is loading the fonts to the memory.
    Also it is dificult to choose the right font between so many quantity! I think it is better to reduce the quantity of fonts installed, better for the system, better for me, and better for photoshop.
    I want to keep just the essencial fonts, like arial, times new roman, verdana, calibri, and the better for artistic use, maybe 20 is few, let's think in a number about 50 fonts installed shoud be ok.
    In this same forum there are many persons saying that many fonts slow down the sistem. Also I read in many tech sites that too much fonts installed is not good for windows.

  • Turning bold font to normal

    hi,
    i am working on a textbook in several languages. one of them is arabic. i ran into a great font in arabic, that can suit me well. the problem is that in it's normal mode he is too bold for me (it's truetype of course).
    is there any way in indesign to thiner the font a bit. but in a way it will look perfect?
    thanks

    Try using other Arabic Fonts bundled with InDesign CS3-ME, perhaps Adobe Arabic or Winsoft font families -which includes multiple weights.
    PLUS, there is plug-in for InDesign CS3-ME called TASMEEM Creative Edition for Arabic calligraphy, see the controls for Arabic font display....

  • Flash paper doesn't import bold fonts

    I have some bold fonts in my word document. And when i export
    them to
    swf or
    pdf, the bold fonts become regular. I used
    Flash Paper last year once or twice and I didn't have such a
    problem. The font I'm using is "Bookman Old Style". But I tried
    other font types as well and they didn't work either... Anyone had
    the same problem or know a fix for this issue ? cheers...
    Flash Paper version = 2.02.2302

    I had the same problem whenever I wanted to print on
    FlashPaper. The following worked. Go to Control Panel > Printers
    > Macromedia Flash Player. Right Click > Properties. Under
    the tab
    Ports select
    FlashPaperPrinterPoint. I had LPT1 for FlashPaper selected
    by default, so I guess it made my laptop "look" for the printer.
    I hope it works for you too!

  • Bolded fonts only in Firefox - how to normalize it?

    My problem is the bolded font: before view - http://i.imgur.com/6FlBHZs.png, after view - http://i.imgur.com/cxaRhtZ.png
    I want to return the normal view of the fonts in the websites. This problem appears only in Firefox.

    Are you zooming those pages. because that can cause Firefox to use a bold font if you zoom too much?
    Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • How can I prevent sites displaying in bold font in versions of FF later than 3.6?

    Many sites (google, gmail, wikipedia to name a few) are appearing in bold font when they should not be. This started for me in FF4, and has persisted in FF5 and now FF6. I'm running Windows 7 x64.
    I've seen many replies to questions about bold font problems telling people to reinstall, e.g. arial as the problem is corrupted fonts on their system. I've tried reinstalling several fonts (arial, verdana, tahoma, times new roman...) and it doesn't solve the problem. Also, if I reinstall FF3.6, the problem goes away, so it seems to be an issue with FF and not my machine.
    I've also tried running FF6 in safe mode, with addons disabled, and restoring the default settings. None of this has helped.
    I should add that I have another machine running FF6 with the same addons, but with Windows 7 x86 - all pages display correctly. Is this a known issue for FF4+ on 64-bit systems?

    Thanks for replying. I'm using exactly the same profile as I did in 3.6, and reinstalling 3.6 does solve the problem. I'd rather use the latest version though.
    I've just checked Tools > Options > Content > Advanced of the two machines side by side, and they're identical. The 32-bit one is fine, and the 64-bit one isn't.

  • I'm using the @font face to embed fonts on my site. Everytime I use a heading tag Firefox adds extra emphasis (making a bold font even bolder). How can I resolve this? The heading tag renders fine in Chrome/Safari.

  • How can i take out the bold fonts from webpage?

    Hello,
    My website homepage is all in bold fonts and after trying everything i thought to solve the problem, i cant find a way to un-bold the font.
    This the page i am referring  http://silentdisco.de/
    Hope you could help... I have this situation for some time and i really dont know what i could do to solve it.
    Thanks so much in advance for your help.

    Start by removing the inline styles from your HTML code.  You've got quite a few of them.
    <span style="font-weight: bold; color: #000000; font-size: 20px;"></span>
    CSS styles belong in your style sheet.

  • Pdf file designed using IREPORT tool. when i preview in adobe reader bold fonts displaying correctly,but same file in mozilla adobe plugin displays fonts unbold

    I have designed a report using IReport tool with some text as BOLD, which generates report in PDF format. when i open the file with Adobe Reader IX it opens perfectly.
    but the problem is when i open the same file in mozilla add-on "Adobe Reader 11.0.3.37" and in previous versions it does not displaying the bold fonts.

    Is there a non-confidential example of this PDF that we could view?

  • Acrobat X Converts Non-Bold Font to Bold From Word Doc

    I had used Acrobat 8 at work for over three years with no problems converting any MS Office documents to PDF files.  I've purchased Acrobat X Pro for my use at home and now every time I try to convert a Word file (either a doc or a docx), it changes the font on the first page to bold and leaves the second page normal, as the original font in the Word file.  I'm not using an especially unusual font (tried it with both Californian and Antiqua, with the same results) and the font shows as embedded in the Acrobat properties, so I don't think that's the problem.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, is this just one of those "improvements" that renders the software useless, or is it possible this is something they hope to fix soon?

    I'm not sure what you mean by "checking the font for changes".  In the Word file, only items that are supposed to be bold show as bold; in Adobe, the first page shows entirely as bold and the properties show that I have both regular, italic, and bold fonts - which is correct, because the original Word file has both regular, italic, and bold fonts in it - just not where they are supposed to be (at least on the first page). Second page is fine.  And, as I mentioned, "converting it from Word 2007 using Save As PDF" - that *is* using the plug in.  My point is that whether using the Word PDF plug in or converting directly using Acrobat X created the problem.  I say "created" because this morning, it seems to be working fine.  No rhyme. No reason. Not doing anything differently.  I do know that I've seen a similar problem in a PDF letter I received from a colleague who was using Acrobat X (while I was still using 8).  She reviewed the original Word file and, like mine, it was fine, it was just in converting that the problem arose.  So I've decided that the solution involves rebooting one's 'droid.  It seems that 21st century solutions are the same as they were a quarter of a century ago.  Oh joy.
    Thanks to all for the input, though.
