Fuzzy screen

Every time I go on my macbook pro lately, my screen all of a sudden goes fuzzy all over and on every application, and it's really difficult (but not impossible if I squint a lot!!) to read anything. Sometimes all I have to do is restart it and it goes back to lovely clear screens again, and sometimes I think it kindof sorts itself out and comes back on its own. Other than that - I have to switch it off and leave it a bit to see if that clears it. It seems to be doing it nearly all the time though so I'm a big bit worried. Any ideas what I've done to make it do this? Bought early 2008. Had memory added last year. OSX 10.5. (If I did a factory reset would I loose all photos, music etc?

Good morning,
 *Welcome to the Apple Discussions Forum* 
Without being able to see this it will be very hard to troubleshoot, however, there is the possibility that the screen has a defect in it causing the sharpness to not be what it should.
You may wish to consult your [Local Apple Store's Genius Bar|http://www.apple.com/retail] for a higher level of support and possible product repair!
Hope this helps! 

  • Pavillion m9077c lockup and fuzzy screen

My computer locks up with a fuzzy screen
I have an HP Pavilion m9077c-b quad core computer running Windows 8.1.  It has an Nvidia GeForce8500GT video card and I suspect it is going bad, but haven’t convinced myself that it is the problem.
    I checked the following:
    Overheating (Checked with SpeedFan Program)
    GPU temperature initially 79° C
After blowing out the case, temperatures ran in the 72-75°C range – still lock ups
With fan blowing into the case and the temperature at ~67°C, still locked up.
All 3 fans, PS, GPU and case fans are running
Note – GPU Temperature may be slightly high, but seem to be within specs for Nvidia
    Drivers
    Updated Nvidia driver
Installed a Nvidia hotfix dated 4/15/14 – Still locked up
Other pertinent drivers seem to be up to date
In NORMALmode, had lockups running the following, mostly individually, but sometimes in combo:
    File Exp
    MS Outlook
    lorer & Adobe PDF
    MS Digital Image
    Internet Explorer
    Web Camera
    MS Word
Turbocad (3D rendering program like Autocad)
In SAFE MODE, ran most of the above overnight with no problems (but no video card?)
In SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING, ran most of these programs for 8 hours with no lockupsl
    Video Card
Using HP’s Support Assistant program Video Check
           i.      Lock ups in SELECTIVE START UP – runs to 56% & 90% then locks up
ii.      Lock ups in SELECTIVE START UP with networking
iii.      Runs in SAFE BOOT WITH NETWORKING -- no problems (but doesn’t check the GPU?)
Ran dxdiag in SELECTIVE START UP with no problems detected
    Motherboard & CPU – tested with HotCPUTester4Pro
In SELECTIVE START UP – ran diagnostic test for 5 hours with no problems
In SAFE BOOT WITH NETWORKING -- ran diagnostic test for 5 hours with no problems
Disk Drive – ran Scandisk with no problems detected
Power Supply -  changed out ~2 years ago with a premium power supply.  600W Thermaltake.
Any thoughts on what might be causing the problems, and if it is the video card, is there a better way to confirm it is the source?

Yes, it definitely could be significant.  Do you have a friend who could loan you a video card to see if it works?  This would be helpful.

  • Issues: extremely slow start up, occasional green fuzzy screen, doesn't always hibernate and overheats

First off, I should say that I'm not the type of person to shutdown my computer. If anything, I shut it to hiberate. I'm not sure if that's bad pratice or if that's what lead to this over time.. So here's what happens.. Today, I was working away and all of a sudden a fuzzy screen comes up with a little bit of green and then a beeping sound. So I shut it off. This is rare, sometimes the fuzzy screen comes up for a second randomly or when I open my computer from hiberate mode or when I'm just using the computer.
When I turn my computer on,
    1. sometimes the 'on' button doesn't work and it takes a few tries (however this hasn't happened in the past few weeks. *knock on wood*)
Once the computer is on the blue screen comes up:
    2. which stays on for anywhere from 5-20 minutes.
    3. Log in appears with the cursor blinking but I actually can't type anything.. It lags behind sometimes another 20 minutes before my password appears and I could log on.
Checking the message board for similar questions it was recommended that I update the software.
I've tried to get Mavericks on here but I get an error message when it tries to restart the computer and never does so successfully on its own.
I've helped it along and was able to attempt at installing it but I waited a least an hour for it to 'find my disks' with no luck I went the disk utility repair route istead of time machine backup which couldn't find my external or anything for that matter.
The error message I got back was:
invalid block count It should be 21066078 instead of 21066076. Found corrupt needs to be repaired.
Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Below is my EtreCheck.

    Simska,
regarding the overheating, you can try resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller.
Regarding the invalid block count, you should boot from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD which originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro, run Disk Utility from it (via the Utilities menu in the menu bar), and select Repair Disk for your internal disk.
After your disk is repaired, exit Disk Utility and restart from your internal disk. When you log in, you should uninstall your installed version of iPhoto Photocast — it was written to work with the Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) SDK, but you have Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8) installed, so it’s not supported under Snow Leopard. Install in its place an older version of iPhoto Photocast which is compatible with Snow Leopard. You also have an outdated version of Silverlight installed — you can download the most recent version from here.

  • Jittery fuzzy screen on a Mac Pro

I just purchased a used Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Quad Mac Pro on eBay. In testing it, the screen (an Optiquest 22" that works fine that I owned previously) is flickering and fuzzy.  Then when I mess with the display system preferences it clears up and is sharp again.  On a restart it goes back to the fuzzy jittery look again until I re-open the system prefs.
It's running 10.8.4 but I don't have the install discs.  I do have the Discs for my old computer (10.6.8)  Seems like it's a software issue since it gets cleared up with some mousing around and futzing.  Should I re-install the older 10.6.8 to see if that fixes it?
It's a clean install of 10.8 now so it's no big deal to blank out the OS.
I would rather not return this thing is I can sort it out.  I'd have to pay $60 to return it.
    Thanks for any help!

So here's more information on this.  I have clean installed 10.6 on the HD.  Same problem.
I switched monitors and another monitor I have doesn't seem to be affected by the jittery fuzzy screen symptom. I checked and switched the monitor cables and that didn't do it.
I didn't seem to be messed up when I start up with the Optiquest 22 main monitor in the second monitor position from the video card connections.
On start up, the apple logo on the gray screen is sharp but as soon as the dsktop appears it goes fuzzy.
When I go to displays in the systems settings and switch between display resulotions it clears right up and looks sharp and perfect.
So at this point I've ruled out the OS and cables.
It seems to be an incompatibility with the Optiquest screen. But only when used in the primary monitor position.
This monitor has worked perfectly on my older mac pro, from 2 years previous (2006 model) Wondering if there's some software I can use to try and get the screen working right?
I suppose I can buy another, newer monitor if the Optiquest is glitching out but I'd rather not as I know it works fine normally.
    Any thoughts?

  • I keep getting a fuzzy screen when I hook up MBP to flatscreen

    Hi,
I dj at a bar and hook up to their HDMI connection which allows me to play music videos on their tv screens, and when I hook up my MBP mid 2012 15'' I am getting a fuzzy screen on the their flatscreen.... I am able to fix it when I mess around with the screen resolution on my macbook... it only happens there, and it works fine at home. I just curious to see if anyone has ran into this issue, and know why it is doing this... I have attached a link with a photo.

  • Blurry and fuzzy screen appearing randomly AIO 610-1270uk

Dear users of AIO 610-1270, is anyone has  experience with blurry and fuzzy screen appearing randomely, black color is disapiring in favor of red, you can see on attached photos.
I upgraded video drivers, but is was helpful for very short time only.
I checked computer's video using hp support assistant, no erroes beenrepotred even screen was blurry and fuzzy durring checking.
I would appreciate any help in this mater
    Computer specification:
     610-1270uk
    PN: LN617EZ#ABU
    i7, 6mb RAM, 2Tb HD 23"touch screen, graphic AMD Radeon HD6450A

I have several thousand photos in several folders. I have noticed that whenever I want to change the folder used as the side show source, it takes the Screen Saver Preference pane a very long time to respond. It is as if it is scanning all the photos in the currently assigned folder in order to display them in the preview window provided, and it gets so dogged down doing that it can't respond to my clicks on the Choose Folder option.
Assuming you don't want to redistribute your photos into a greater number of folders or subfolders so there would be fewer in each folder to process, you could try a workaround. Try moving your currently-assigned folder to your desktop temporarily, before opening the Screen Saver preference pane. If the preference pane can't find the old folder, it may immediately ask you to choose a new one. You could hopefully then do so, close the preference pane, and then put back the old folder.
It's my understanding that there will be no future updates to Tiger, only security fixes.

  • Green fuzzy screen -  Any suggestions?

After updating to iOS 5.0.1 my ipad has been slow and sometimes unresponsive. It was operating very slow today and then the screen went to a green fuzzy screen. Now it's less green and has a pulsing redish box on the home screen. Any suggestions?

Try a system reset.  It's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

    Hello @DBow ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are experiencing a green fuzzy computer display. I'll do what I can to help! I would try the troubleshooting in this document: Display Quality Issues
If the issue is not resolved by trying these steps, you are probably experiencing a hardware issue. I would contact HP phone support for assistance. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

  • 1520 FUZZY SCREEN

I have a 1520 I have had it for about 6 weeks now, I am in the UK and the phone is on Vodafone.
After a few days I was working nights, at some point I tried to use the phone but the screen had gone "Fuzzy", I had to put it away, when I got home it was still fuzzy and I was tired, I went to bed and the next morning it was back to normal, I have to admit I forgot about it.
Last Wednesday it happened again, but this time it didn't correct itself, so I had to go to work without it on the Thursday, Friday (UK bank holiday) was my first chance to play with it, I tried switching off using the power button but it would just restart, I tried doing a reset having plugged it into it's charger and then doing the volume and power button reset, I gave up for the day and tried again on Saturday, eventually the screen went from fuzzy to garbled but at least I could now do a restart as I could see enough and the screen was responding, a few attempts later and the screen came back to normal, it's been OK since then (But doing the reset didn't wipe any data which was good).
I know I am not the only person to have seen this fuzzy screen as I found a link to an unanswered thread on this forum:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Nokia-Lumia-1520/td-p/2490586
This search query does have a picture attachment showing the same "Fuzzy" screen.
I popped into a Vodafone shop today and they said I would have to take it in and they would send it away and it could be more than a week, I need my phone and will only do this in desperation.
Any ideas what is happening, any solutions or suggestions welcome.
    Bob

    hi mate,
sounds like it could be hardware or a deeper software fault. in this case, you don't really have a choice but to leave the phone with Vodafone until it is repaired for you. i know it is an inconvenience, but you will have to make do and borrow a mate's phone for the time being.

  • HT3492 Fuzzy Screen

We have a late 2012 Mac mini.  On our HDMI Tv, the hdmi port works perfectly.  If we take it to one of our monitors (works perfectly with other computers) and use the HDMI to DVI adapter, it shows a fuzzy screen with green dots.  We got a new DVI cable thinking it was that, but it only helped a tiny bit.  We got a Minidisplay port to DVI adapter, but it showed it a little better, but started flashing white and stopped.  I ran the Mini DP VGA Update, but all it says is "The updater could not find a mini displayport to VGA adapter to update.

The Mini DisplayPort to VGA firmware update is only good if your using a VGA monitor.
I'm not sure what to make of your DVI connection problem, because I have never had any DVI connection problems with my Early iMac or 2010 Mac Mini using the HDMI to DVI or Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters.
If you have tried resetting the > NVRAM / PRAM and adjusting the Display Preferences, then perhaps you should schedule an appointment at your local > Apple  Service Provider and have the problem looked at before your 1 year warranty is up.

  • MacBook Pro Mid-2010 Intermittent Shut-Down and Fuzzy Screen

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro Mid-2010 has been having some problems recently. Hope someone will be able to help me with this. Below are the symptoms that has been showing.
    Symptoms:
    1. Intermittent Shutdown
    2. Screen going fuzzy (when I give it a slight tap it will be fine but everything just hangs)
    3. 3 beep sound
    4. Can't start up (The sleep light will just stay on but nothing appears. I have to force shutdown and try starting it again.)
I have recently done a clean install of Yosemite but the problem is still occuring.
I also took it down to Singapore Apple Service Centre to try to get the problem fixed. But the initial tests shows that all the components in the Mac is working fine. I will need to pay for a full test as my Mac is out of warranty hence I did not send it in.
Below is a copy of the recent log after it shut down by itself.
Appreciate if someone can help me with this!
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    Kai Yuan

I just had the same problem! Just installed Mavericks a couple of days ago but everything was running perfectly till just a couple of minutes ago watching netflix and working on Dreamweaver my macbook just shutdown. I had to Turn it back on and in the first try it shutdown immediatelly again, then i tried for second time and as soon as i got back into my account a bunch of programs start sending erros as my clock was set to a different date. My battery seems to be fine, i even check the report in the system preferences, it had 50% of battery and was plugged in so i am guessing that is not the problem.
    Here the report:
    Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          3356
      Fully Charged:          No
      Charging:          Yes
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          6626
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          367
      Condition:          Normal
I had to have my motherboard replaced last year as my macbook its a 15 inch Mid 2010 so i took it to Mac Store.. they didnt charge me for anything as it is a problem that Apple acknowledge the problem was in their side. I am just hoping i dont have to deal with this again.

  • Fuzzy screen capture in FCPX

Hello. I imported a QuickTime screen capture into FCPX, and the playback is fuzzy. Why? Is something wrong with the file, or just the playback?

Russ and Tom, thanks for your replies. The file looks very crisp when played with QT. When I click Get Info, I see 1780 x 1080, H.264, 34.2 MB.

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • Fuzzy screen, moving pixels, only in colour, not in grayscale NOT zoom prob

    Hi,
I was using messenger on my macbook, which is about 30 days old, and the screen began to go a bit fuzzy in one patch, I closed the program and now the screen is just fuzzy all over.
The best way to describe this is like a telly with interference, there are visible pixels in the wrong colour, its almost impossible to read, when you highlight areas the pixels which are dodgy change and its generally all fuzzy.
This is not a zoom problem, I have updated all software downloads AND when you turn the computer into grayscale in universal access the problem goes away, its only there when its in colour!
There a screen shot of the problem here:
    http://cambridge.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2129600&l=63f94&id=36913819
    can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Soph

Thats exactly what I have. I have tried display and colour and all the relatively simple things... am now on hold to apple, have been here half an hour and i'm starting to get peeved at their rock music on hold - its not good through a crackly broken phone early in the morning.....
    Have you found a solution?
