Fuzzy "snow" effect

I'm looing to add a short, apporoximately 1-2 second, clip to the beginning of my project. I am looking for the effect of a television with no input, the black and white fuzzy "snow" and the sound to accompany it. Does anyone know how I could achieve this? Thanks

See if the Effects>Video Generators>Render>Noise or Particle Noise will do the job.

• [help] Making a snow effect in livetype?

Hello, I'm sort of a new member here at Apple Discussions, and I have a question about LiveType.
Is there any way to make like a snow effect in LiveType? Because we're making a holiday special broadcast for our school, and I want to make like a falling snow effect (like real snow, not snow text.)
If anyone knows, please post, thank you in advance. :]

Hi(Bonjour)!
Export your livetype movie, import it in a new iMovie project and use the free "snow" filter from cf/x company:

• Trying to download falling snow effect for iMovie...

I wonder if someone can help me?
I'm trying to create a falling snow effect on a short movie I am creating. I have found a couple of websites that have an option to download this effect, but everytime I do it, it downloads this:

It's definitely advised to have a backup, but that is not normally a reason why a download does not work.
So, can you try to post the exact message you got please. And, please post the exact steps you took to get where this happened.
Please do not use all caps - it is very difficult to read and considered shouting on the internet.

• Why is "old" effect CC Snow not accessable in AE CC/CS6, yet it is in the plug-in folder?

Hey everyone,
so, the effects bundles from CycoreFX HD is now included in CS6 and CC. But I cannot access the so-called "old" effects like CC Snow, altough this effect is in my plug-in folder! I understand, that CC Snowfall is a replacement effect which is said to be 'better' (whatever that means), but the CC Snow effect has some important characteristics that CC Snowfalls does not have.
Is there a way to re-access the CC Snow effect?
Kind regards,
Alex

Open up an old project that uses the effect then copy&paste it to your new setups.

• Looking for video effects

Hello everyone:
I'm relatively new to Adobe Premiere CS4 (although I have some experience working with digital video). I seemed to have mustered the controls for Premiere itself but what seems to be lacking in my understanding is how to create certain visual effects with it. I'm looking to create a video clip with effects like in this particular video: (Sorry for the link but it's much more easy to show it.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePDR3Pza1_g
What I'm looking for is this:
1. The way they have the Id logo expand, shrink and distort in the very beginning.
2. The "broken TV reception", or "TV-snow" effect. Also the effect how they have the picture twitch at some points.
3. The way they implemented titles in the beginning -- "The Union Aerospace Corporation is the largest ..."
I'm not looking for a free solution in particular, so if someone knows some third-party plug-in, or something I can integrate into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm not sure if it's Premiere or After Effects, either. So I apologize if I posted it in a wrong forum.
Thank you in advance.

As for the picture jitter, I'm not sure I saw the appropriate effect for it, but I'll keep looking, maybe I missed something... You said there's an effect for that in AE. I don't really know it that well, so I'm curious, is it possible to take a track from PrPro, send it to AE and then back to PrPro (pretty much like with sound track and Soundbooth)?
Depending on the version of PrPro and whether it's one of the full "suites," you can use Adobe Dynamic Link (DL) to quickly move footage into an AE Comp and back again. Each version of what was once called Production Stuido has improved the function of DL.
Now for the jitter, I seem to recall a plug-in, something like "unsteady cam," or similar. It is just the opposite of "stabilization." Do not recall either the official name, or software company, or even if it was part of an Effects "pack."
Speaking of which, I know it's off topic here, but do you know any idea where can I get some sound effects like in that clip? Maybe even some sound bites/background music/anything.
Not at all OT. Here's a list of SFX and music sites. Some are free, some are for a fee:

http://www.5alarmmusic.com/
Also the voices in the beginning sound quite machine-like, is there a software I can use to dictate some text in?
Audition, SoundBooth, and several other audio editing programs have similar Effects, and many more can be added, such as Reverb and Delay. There are also some free VST plug-ins that do a similar distortion. This GOOGLE Search has yielded a bunch of sites for VST's. Some free and some for a fee.
Again, thanks for your input, you can't imagine how much time you've just saved me... As for the video I'm making, it's supposed to be a fun one. When I'm done with it (hopefully in a couple of weeks) I'll post a link here.
No problem. If I can track down that shaky-cam/destabilizer plug-in, I'll post a link to it.
Good luck,

• High raster effect resolution in large document makes effect dissapear

Hello
I'm making some graphics to be printed on a car. I have some lines with outer glow on them, but Illustrator won't render these unless I use 72DPI in raster effects reslution. I would like to go higher, but it won't give me anything. Guessing it's to heavy for Illustrator maybe? Is there anything I can do about this? I'm making my graphics in 1:1 scale, but I do it in a lower scale since it's just vector art anyway, however how would that effect my glow? Since it's a raster effect.

but I asked the printer and he said 300DPI
Which just goes to show how widely misunderstood overstated rules-of-thumb are in this industry. In estimating appropriate PPI, you want small enough pixels (at print size) to avoid visible pixelation. In other words, you don't want to be able to see the squareness of the pixels. That's a function of the tone screening method resolution. As long as the pixel size is not larger than the screening method size, the screening method is not going to be fine enough to be able to render the squareness of a pixel as a square.
Suppose you've got a pixel that measures 1/75th inch. How many round dots will be required to at least roughly render that square as a square? At least four dots. In other words, you'd have to be printing with a halftone screen of at least 150 LPI for pixelation to be visible. And even at that, the assumption would be a pixel that is perfectly aligned with a halftone cell, and on only one color sep angled at 0°. Stochastic screening is even more forgiving of lower raster resolution, because all the screen dots are the same size anyway. They are randomly patterned and their frequency is altered to suggest different tones.
So vehicle graphics are not going to be printed at anything near a halftone screen resolution of 300 LPI. (Don't be confused by claims of "high resolution" of composite printers like 1440 or 2880 DPI. Those figures are talking about printer spot size, not tone cell size.)
Add to all that the fact that concern over image sharpness doesn't even enter the picture when talking about raster effects that are intenionally fuzzy anyway (shadows, glows, etc., etc.).
Flattening "stitching" artifacts need to be watched for if the soft, fuzzy raster effects overlay text or other vector objects that need to be crisp. But that's usually a matter of correct stacking order (or Illustrator bugs).
75 PPI for raster effects on vehicle graphics is a gracious plenty; probably less. You don't really think billboard photos are sampled at 300 PPI @100%, do you?

• Animated snow GIF

I am trying to create a simple animation of snow falling.
This will be
in front of a mountain scene that I have already created. Can
anyone
point me to a tutorial on how to create a snow effect? Flash
doesn't
seem to be an option because I want this to be a gif that I
can tile
horizontally across the top of a web page. Is there any way
other than
manually animating all the flakes over all of the frames? My
other
obstacle is that with each successive frame there needs to be
"new" snow
coming down again from the top.
I'm having a VERY long morning trying to figure this out.
Thanks in advance.

• Dynamic Raindrops Effect for iWeb - any suggestions?

I would like to add a dynamic raindrop effect (preferably free) to an iWeb '09 page.
Something similar to the effect found here:
http://www.dseffects.com/scriptsfx/DSRain/DSRain.html
I tried the one listed above, but couldn't get it to work.
I'm currently using a snow effect which works fine. I was hoping a similar snippet exists for rain. I've found several, but none seem to actually work.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

The snowflakes drift (as opposed to simply falling), they also congregate at the bottom of the screen, so I suspect more than a simple gif replacement would be required, and as I've already indicated, I know next to nothing about code.
I'm seeking a solution that requires nothing more than pasting a line of code in the HTML snippet widget, and possibly coping a .js file to my site. Anything more complicated than that would require detailed step-by-step instructions.

• Add Snow To An Image (Part 2)

This message is for Dennis Trevor or anyone who can help.
Dennis,
I responded with the following message but I think I marked your response "correct answer" too soon.
This is great! Unfortunately a friend took the original pic with her
iPhone so I'm limited on the resolution. I can use what you've done "as
is" for the brochure I'm doing but if you could refine the snow a bit (more sleet, smaller flakes on the green jacket on the left and more snow on the top of the dogs), that would be terrific. Short of that, how do I find the EC7 software that you referred to?
Thanks so much for your help, Sandy

I walked through the Photoshop Snow Effect - Add Falling Snow To A Winter Photo and came up with this:
Is there a way to save the preset so I can use it in the future without having to reset everything?
After defining your new preset, open the Brush Presets panel, and click on the cog icon in top right corn. Click on New Preset and give it a name.
If you want that preset to be available next time you open Photoshop, you need to go the same place you made the New preset, and click on Save. But before you do this, you need to decide where you want your new preset to live, so I suggest Resetting the brushes before you define your new brush. Click OK and not append. Now when you define your new brush and Save the set, it will be added to the Standard brush set.

• How to make snow stay after falling to the ground

Hi,
I'd like to make an animation on which one can simply see snow falling down. I know this is easy to do with the CC Snow Effect. But what I didn't find an answer to is: I want to make the snow stay on the ground so that in the end the ground is covered by snow. Any idea or tips how to do this?
Thank's a lot for your comments!

Add a white solid to the scene and animate a mask to simulate snow rising.
Use the often-forgotten, yet powerful Particle Playground. (This page from the wonderful Angie Taylor even includes a handy-dandy preset for that.)
This page is full of After Effects snow tutorials.
This Google search has a ton of useful-looking results.

• AE CC Snow

I am not the best with After Effects, I've only been using it for a couple of weeks. I wanted to try out the cc snow effect today, I placed it onto my footage and nothing came up. I thought I might be doing something wrong so I watched a few tutorials. All they did was drag the effect onto the footage.
For some reason mine isn't show up, I have tried adjusting variables, etc nothing seems to work. Is there some sort of setting I toggled to not show effects such as these?
Hopefully someone knows how to fix this, thanks.

Are you looking at the LAYER window or the COMP window? It sounds like it might be the layer window.
It also sounds like you should spend some quality time here:
Getting started with After Effects (CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6, & CC)
With AE, you can't blow off the basics. If you do, you'll get lost. If you're familar with other software, you'll progress quickly.

• Trapcode snow + camera problem

hi, I need to apply effect of snow blowing toward the camera in AE CC and trapcode let me do everything i want except the depth of field. whenever i create or turn on a camera, which i guess is needed for DoF, snow disapears from camera view (but still there in top, front, etc). no metter if DoF option of snow is set to camera or off. Z position is correct, no lights in the scene. i tried default settings with a simple new>camera and new>black solid, with a snow preset. I'm pretty sure i've also tweaked every trapcode and cameras option but always the same result - when camera layer is visible, snow effect disappeares from any camera preview, black screen. really tired of wasting time so hoping for You to know better.
i know this is possible and im doing something wrong but if u know some trick to fake blur particles close to the camera, shoot
thanks

You need to figure out where the preset is creating this snow and point the camera at that.

• Apple TV keeps freezing and snow picture

Guys
Again I need your help.
My AppleTV keeps freezing and have white dots while displaying menu and playing the content.
When I try to restart it it shows the Apple logo and freezes while the dots keep appearing and flashing (think Matrix movie). It doesn't make any sound. I have unplugged the cable/ restart it (took ages), changed HDMI cable.
Nothing. My TV is new and never had that problem before, it happened after last upgrade.
Any Ideas

I am also having this same issue. I tried both HDMI and Component connected directly to my TV. Cables are known good with my Bluray player.
I did a factory restore and it got to 1.0 software. I still had the snow effect and also freezing on the bootup movie. After a few attempts I was finally able to get through to the menu and upgrade the software the latest release, and it still had the snow effect on either HDMI or Component. It also froze in the menu system.
From that troubleshooting, I think it is hardware issue. I have left the apple TV unplugged since last night. when I get back home for the evening, I will check again and see if the long time of being unplugged will fix it. If not, time to take it to the Apple Store.
Had it for a little more then a year and it is already broken. Poor Poor quality, but that is what I get for getting the first gen.
