FW Drop shadow problem

I have created a website in FWCS3 and when I put a background behind it (in DWCS3), the drop shadow effects I have do not work with any colors other than white.  Can anyone give some advice?  If I use another color for the background the shading looks terrible, like a grayish color  Please help.

Hi
If i got this right, you used fireworks to create an image with shadow added to it. You should have in mind that when you do that, you create an image file and dreamweaver cannot see the shadow you added but the whole graphic as an image file.
Now, when you want to use a specific color for background in dreamweaver and place your image, make sure that it has the same background color as the one you apply inside dreamweaver.
If you use a gif file for transparency, make sure to select or diselect the right options from the optimize panel.
If you can, upload the file and let me know how you did.

  • Using Bridge to Camera Raw to Open Image button also drop shadow problems

I remember when I was working with RAW in PSE 8. I would be in Bridge looking at a pic and double click on it. PSE 8 would open in Camera RAW and I could play with the pic a bit, make some adjustments, then click on OPEN IMAGE. When I did that it would open in PSE and it would be in jpg format. With this PSE 9 and the updated Camera RAW 6.3, when I punch OPEN IMAGE I still have a picture labeled .CR2 which I think still means RAW. When I double click in Bridge the .CR2 pic shows as 8 bit depth. I can do a little more work on it and use SAVE AS. When I do that, the sample file name that shows is still in .CR2 format and I must change that to .jpg and then below change from PHOTOSHOP to JPEG to save my file as a jpg file. Is there something that I have to change in preferences to get it to open the image in jpg format when I hit the OPEN IMAGE button? Or, is this an "improvement" with RAW 6.3? Also, I seem to be having trouble adding a drop shadow (or any other effects) on jpeg pics. At least it doesn't show up on the screen after I apply it. I just recently updated to Camera RAW 6.3 and updated my Operating system on my iMac computer to OS 10.6.6. I emailed this request to my good friend with an identical setup on his iMac and he is having the same response when performing the above operations. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Okay, previously you seem to have been using the bridge version of camera raw to edit your raw photos. That has many more options than the PSE version of the raw converter. (If you still have PSE 8, you can see the difference by using File>Open in the editor to open a raw photo for the PSE version of ACR, which works the same way in PSE 9.) In PSE's raw converter, you use the Open button, then save your photo in an image format in the editor. The Save button in ACR in PSE is only the DNG converter.
Layer styles should work exactly the same way as in PSE 8. However, in any version of PSE a drop shadow, like a real shadow, needs someplace to fall, so unless there is empty space on the layer, it won't appear. Try creating text or drawing and simplifying a shape and adding a drop shadow. Does it appear then?
Also remember that Jpegs won't let you save either layers or transparency when you resave the file.

  • Drop Shadows problem in Acrobat Reader & Professional

    Hi all,
We have a problem with Acrobat, when we open an pdf which has drop shadow over a background seems to be white patch around the dropshadow.
    Attempt done:
First Attempt: Opened the PDF in acrobat professional 7, when we switch on overprint option this seems to be good but when I print I got the white patch around the dropshadow.
Second Attempt: Opened the PDF in Acrobat Reader 9.0, it has white patch and print has white patch.
Third Attempt: Opened the PDF in Acrobat Professional 8, when we switch on overprint option looks fine and print fine.
Client want the pdf should be compatible in Acrobat Reader.
Note: This PDF was generated with 3b2 Software we cannot switch over the software to Indesign.
Any suggestion related to this issue.

The overprint settings would need to be set in the source file and preserved when generating the pdf. Based on the information from the uploaded file, you might try Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher support.

  • Drop shadow problem

    Hi,
We face the below mentioned problem. Would be great if someone could help us.
Due to problems with uploading the attachment here, please send a email to the following email-id ([email protected]) and I shall send the attachment in response.
Problem Description: Clicking dropshadow in air component should bring focus to other application behind the air application.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open any applications in full screen. ( ex : MSWord, Notepad )
    2. Run the DropShadow sample.
    3. Click the shadow portion in the panel component.
Actual Result: Clicking the shadow area in the panel component is setting focus to the same DropShadow application.
Expected Result: If some other application are opened in fullscreen ,then clicking the shadow area in the panel component should change the focus to the applications which is behind DropShadow application.
    Thanks in advance.

After looking at your code your application is behaving as it should.  Essentially your flash element is defining a drop shadow.  It is part of your application therefore when the user clicks on it, it's like clicking on the rest of the application.
Some programming languages get around this by using regions and relying on the operating system to generate the drop shadow (when available.)  For instance in a C# application you would define a region, clip everything outside of it (so that it is transparent) and then use the windows API to shadow your application.  When using the API the OS then uses it's rules to define whether you clicked on the application or not.  This also leads to all sorts of weirdness when you have anti aliased window shapes (curves and the like) and do not want them to look terrible.
So AIR applications handle this by allowing you to have completely transparent windows if the underlying window manager supports it.  The drawback then is that you are not using the OS to define your shadows and so your shadows are part of the application window and clickable.  On the plus side AIR allows for a great bit of flexibility that is not so easily attained in other ways.  (I once lost about 2 weeks of my life on a C# app just getting rounded edges to not look extremely horrible.)
For an illustration consider if you created a custom popup menu that was 50% transparent.  For all intents and purposes to AIR that is identical to the drop shadow you are creating here however in that instance you would want it clickable etc.
    Hope that helps!

  • Drop shadow problem with Illustrator CS5

I've used drop shadow several times with no problems in both photoshop and Illustrator... currently I'm dropping a white shadow onto a black background and although the shadow drops correctly around the object I've noticed that there is some sort of extra white blur that is happening several inches away from my images reguardless of what shape they are. Let me know if a file would help and I can email an example of the problem. Thanks

    Wade, This does look like the exact problem I'm having. I do not want to make a clipping mask because I have around 20 pages with numerous images on each page of varying sizes... I tried- Effect/Document Raster Effect Settings, Under options I played with a couple different settings but none seem to have fixed the problem... There is a check box for;
    Anti-alias
    Create Clipping Mask
    -Add _____ in. Around Object
    Preserve spot colors
I'm not familier with these settings and didn't know what you were recommending I change exactly?
    Thanks again for the help

  • Drop Shadow Problem in CS3

I'm running PS CS3 in Win7 and have noticed an odd problem.  I have a psd with a layer in which I've knocked-out or erased the background.  I've got a forground subject and the rest is transparent.  I've got another layer beneath it.  I had a drop shadwo and when I increase the Spread all is ok.   Then I increase the Size and I see a whole bunch of drop shadows that have nothing to do with the forground subject.
There's something there in the layer to cause the shadows.  I've tried several different layers with different colors to reveal whatever is there.  I can't see anything.  However if I use the wand, I can select "something".  If I erase or mask in the location of the drop shadow, it disappears.  Something is there, why can't it be seen?

Something is there, why can't it be seen?
Because technically, even 0.00001 opacity is not 100% transparent and you are human - your eye can't discriminate such small differences in color and your computer can't display it to begin with, either. Beyond that you have pretty much answered your own question - they are stray pixels with very low opacities and you have to clean them up properly.

  • AI to Fireworks drop shadow problem

    Hi,
I'm importing .AI files into Fireworks in order to export them as .pngs because the raster quality is better than out of .ai,
One of my files has a white box with a 100% black drop shadow on a grey background. In AI it looks fine, but when I open the file in Fireworks the shadow appears white, a bit like a glow.
The shadow is set to 'Multiply' and has worked in other files.
Any ideas why it's doing this? It's only on this file.
    See below:
    Thanks
    C

This is a bit off-topic, but it relates to how Illustrator and Fireworks sometimes handle rasterization of vector objects differently, and I thought you might find it interesting. (This was done using Illustrator CS2 and FW8; I can't say whether CS5 behaves the same way or not.)
The basic question is this: Where does a 1-pixel stroke belong on a vector object that's aligned to a bitmap grid?
In Illustrator, with Snap to Pixel enabled (in Pixel Preview mode), the vector itself is aligned to the bitmap grid, and a 1-pixel stroke is balanced across both sides of the vector—appearing in effect as a lighter, 2-pixel, anti-aliased stroke. The result looks very imprecise. You can fix this by setting the Keyboard Increment (in Preferences) to 0.5 pixels, turning Snap to Pixel off, and nudging the object a half pixel in each direction using your keyboard arrow keys: Now the stroke, not the vector, is aligned to the bitmap grid.
Theoretically, you should be able to adjust stroke position to handle this issue; however, I found that setting the Stroke to "Inside" produced an unexpected bit of anti-aliasing on one side of my rectangle. (This type of problem may have been fixed in a newer version of Illustrator.*)
In Fireworks, vector objects tend to snap to the pixel grid automatically, as do strokes. But how can FW do this? After all, the default stroke position is center-aligned, just as it is in Illustrator. Well, it turns out that the application is willing to bend the rules a bit: A 25-pixel square with a 1-pixel stroke applied to it still only occupies 25 pixels on the grid, because Fireworks moves the stroke to the inside of the object. It cheats. Once you bump up the stroke weight to 2 pixels, the stroke alignment reverts to center. At 3 pixels, the stroke remains center-aligned but becomes anti-aliased, too.
So anyway... I hadn't really sat down with Illustrator's Pixel Preview mode before. Despite the issues above, I think it's kind of neat in that it's like a window into the world of Fireworks and pixel grids. (In Fireworks, by contrast, you don't have the option of seeing vectors rendered smoothly at any zoom level, as in Illustrator's standard view mode.) I can't recall whether Preferences can be saved in a Workspace, but View settings can at least be saved as part of a template file, and you could probably set up a de facto workspace for working with pixels in Illustrator in a relatively short amount of time. This could help you avoid surprises when using "Save for Web" (as described in the article to which you linked).
*Later, I was able to fix the "stroke inside" rendering problem in Illustrator by setting the stroke to .99px instead of 1px.

  • Illustrator - drop shadow problem

    Hi,
There is probably a really simple way to solve this but I can't work it out.
I have 6 brochure covers on the page, and I want to apply a drop shadow to all of them. When I do apply it however all images get darker, almost as if the shodow is being applied over the top rather then underneath. I have tired 'bring to front' etc, so that's not the issue. I've also tried placing a white box underneath the image, but thats not working either.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

To what are you applying the drop shadow? Also, if the background  colour of the covers is white, make sure you are not just using the  default white background Illustrator provides, but that you have created  a white-filled rectangle for the page.
Please post a  screen shot screen shot. Turn on Transparency Grid (view menu) first.

  • Strange Drop Shadow Problem

    Hello,
This has been driving me crazy! Why is Keynote automatically adding a drop shadow to my Data Point Labels???? Even when I select the labels above my bars, click on the Graphics button (in the Inspector window) and un-check the Drop Shadow box, it still leaves a drop shadow on them.
Any ideas? I can send you the Keynote file if necessary.
    Thanks
    Kit

    Hi,
You might try Edit > Select All and see if the Graphics Inspector Shadow checkbox has any mark in it. Just something to try. If there is a dash in the box, some objects are shadowed and some are not. A couple of clicks there should clear everything.

  • Drop Shadow problems.

My Ai (CC17.1.0) drop shadow effect is not working properly. It does some bizarre things. Like other people have described, it appears to not create a drop shadow, but I believe it may be creating an incredibly pale shadow, at least some of the time.

Monika, my Dropbox situation is in a non-functional state. Can you invite me to yours?
    Meanwhile:
    1. create image
    2. make compound path
    3. select image > Object Menu > Path > Offset path
    4. Effects Menu > Stylize > Drop Shadow

  • Pages, printing: still problem with drop shadows . Frustrated.  :

    Hi -
I've spent most of the afternoon trying to get my Pages document to print properly.
I am experiencing the drop-shadow issue :heavy black clump instead of artfully placed& delicate. Printouts do not resemble what is onscreen or in preview etc.
Having read through the forums; the links; the (cruddy) Pages Help and manual; installed new HP offficejet all-in-one software...
I still get the same result.
Most of the threads don't quite fit my situation.
For instance: Several comments have to do with older versions of things. Because I do have Pages 2, I am on Tiger OS X10.4.7 , upgrading is not my problem.
One of the threads had fairly explicit directions to make a new filter in Coloursync which led all the way to a "change resolution" menu but didn't offer advice on what resolution
    modification to make. rrrrrrrr..
I am pretty lost at this point and really just want to print out a document that looks like what I have designed.
    What? How? Help! Please?

tried to print directly from Pages
If printing directly from Pages does not work then it must be an aspect of your printer. Some printers have a black and white setting that might not read shadows (which are more like greyscale) With the doc opened press ⌘ +p and browse through the options of the printer's pulldown menu and see if there are any settings that might be incorrect. (Check, in particular, your 'color sync' and 'print settings' options in the pull down menu.)

  • Having a strange problem with Drop Shadows in Ai CS5

    Hi there Adobe experts!
I have tried eveything... this is my first post here, but it's my only hope. I have a project where I apply drop shadows to linked images to give a sense of depth. A few days ago, the drop shadows just stopped feathering. It doesn't matter what the blur is set to, its just one colour. Transparency still applies. Here's the kicker...I can open files with applied drop shadows to them and they look fine. But if I try to edit that existing shadow, even by 0.0001 of a pt, it will lose its feathering.
I've deleted the AiPrefs file, and played with just about every setting in document raster effects settings. I have no clue what would cause this.
Oh, and whatever the issue is, it starts in my computer, and then attaches to the files... I sent the ai file to a friend, and when he tried to add drop shadows, they screwed up on his machine too. But it isn't the file. I've attached a brand new (and CMYK, just to see if that would make a difference...) file of a sphere showing the problem. Even with the blur super high, the shadow remains flat and monochromatic.
Any geniuses seen this before or have a remote clue how to solve this one?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luke

All my ram is tripple channel DDR3, same clock speeds, but some is 2GB and some is 4GB.
I just pulled the 2GB sticks (which I had in originally) and left in the 4GB sticks (the ones I recently purchased) and the problem goes away. It's quite odd, I've never had a problem like this before with any other application. I know it's not the best thing in the world to have different types of RAM installed, but my motherboard supports it and I've never had a problem doing it before.
I would be interested to see if this problem is reproducable in the OP's senario, or if this problem can be reproduced by others.
Conclusion: the 2GB sticks work on their own, and the 4GB sticks work on their own. I definitly would not call this a hardware problem, it's an adobe problem and they need to fix their software.

  • Problem with Chroma/Lume Keys while using Drop Shadows

I have been using the box now for almost two years and I still am getting problems with green/blue/purples artifacts showing up after a chroma/luma key has been applied with a drop shadow. The artifacts do not show up under a preview but only when the sequence has been rendered. As soon as I take the drop shadow off, the artifacts go away. This is happening with both still graphics with or without Alphas and green/blue screen video. Please help, am I just missing something or is there a work around that I could be using.
    Thanks,
    Alex

c'mon, Bogie - tell us what you really feel - don't hold back... < </div>
Oh, Patrick, buddy, I am so totally torqued out of shape today. Don't get me started. Too late. FCP's insane render handler is dropping my files, seemingly at random. The nests, Motion and LiveType material are not rendering in the correct order which makes the effects all wonky.
I add drop shadows in the last stage and FCP just ain't holding it together. I get glitches. And then I keep getting these Media Offline notices because FCP cant' track the render files that are actually in use in the upstream nests.
I'll certainly admit a likely a user error. I just don't know what it could be. I've somehow told FCP to destroy its children.

  • "Drop shadow" creates a line - problem

    Hi,
I'm in process of making a map (17x22 inches) and I encountered quite disturbing problem with "drop shadow" effect.
I tried to drop shadow on an object 12x18 inches size with those parameters:
And I got nice result on all of the shape, except the lower part, which give me a line. Like cutting through the shadow thing:
I will add that object is on the layer alone and nothing is interacting with it.
At first I thought that maybe this is display problem, not the shadow itself, so I zoomed in and out, but nothing changed. Then I made sure that all anchors are connected one to another - I'm sure the object IS closed. I tried to manipulated anchors points, changed shape of the object a bit, add, remove some anchors, changed shadows parameters - nothing made any difference in how the shadow looks like. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ania

Your file helped me a lot, Larry. But I still think I got some nasty bug in my original file and I will explain You, why I still think that.
When I opened Your file the shadow was flawless. But when I copied the object You sent me to my old file to replace it, the line appeared in the exactly same place. I thought that maybe, in some weird way other layers and objects mess with that effect but no... When I started to copied objects FROM my old file to YOUR new fixed file, shadow remained nice. So it seems that my old file is somehow corrupted (calculating gaussian blur seems to be the problem there), on the new file - where ALL parameters are the same, all the layers and shapes are the same as in old file except for Your "Drop Shadow" effect - there is NO such problem. Look:
My old file after copying Yours fixed object (line again!):
And here Your file with all the rest of my graphics:
So thanks to You, I may keep on working on my project but the mystery remains.
    Cheers,
    Ania

  • Having a problem: Placing image or putting drop shadow on rectangle causing entire page to lighten up.

I don't know how to word this properly, so I'm sorry if I'm doing this all wrong! I'm having a problem with my document in indesign. I have placed a jped image on the page to serve as the background image. I did this on the master page. I first noticed this problem when I was trying to put a .psd image onto the page. When I did, it would cause the entire page to dramatically brighten! I finally gave up and moved on, and now I ran into the problem again when I created a new rectangle box. I put a drop shadow effect on the box and when I did this, it also made the entire page lighten up. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem??
    Thanks so much!

Whenever you add a transparency effect such as drop shadow over another image, especially a grayscale image, InDesign changes how the page is rendered to reflect what it will look like when printed. As I understand it, nothing has changed but the display. Choose View > Overprint Preview to avoid such surprises and get a more accurate representation of what you'll see when printed when colors are separated. If your document is going to be output to PDF or SWF, choose Edit > Transparency Blend Space > Document RGB instead of Document CMYK.
