Subject: RE: Problem on Web Enterprise HTTPAccess
Peter,
I received this same error. In my case our web app would run deployed but
not from the partition workshop in the development environment.
In our development environment we have NT client nodes and UNIX server
nodes. Since deployed Web apps have no FORTE client you should not need to
install the HTTP library on anything other than the node that is going to
run the Access service (UNIX node). But, when running from the partition
workshop in the development environment most of the application code is
actually run on the client so in your development environment you must make
sure that the HTTP library is also installed on this node.
I would suggest that you first install the HTTP library as NOT compiled.
Once you have everything working with the HTTP library NOT compiled, then
mark it as compiled. Marking the HTTP library as compiled in our
development environment with Windows-NT developer nodes also required us to
set the LD_Library_Path environment variable on the client node. This
environment variable must be set to the directory containing the http.dll
(in my case d:\forte3g\userapp\http\cl0).
Good luck!

Subject: Problem on Web Enterprise HTTPAccess
Hi,
We are using Web Enterprise 1.0.B with Forte 3.0.G.2. We have
problem on
starting up partition with service object subclassed from
HTTPAccess. This
seems to happen mostly in interpreted mode. In compiled mode,
the
partition
seemed quite stable. The exception that we get is something
like
Forte is
trying to cast HTTPAccess into the sub-class that we wrote, and
of
course,
it is illegal and the partition returned an exception.
This exception made us very difficult to continue development on
Web
Enterprise. Can anyone help?
Best regards, Peter Sham.

Peter,
Now that I think about it more, I remember that we also had a problem with
some corrupted memory during start up of our HTTPAccess subclass. We had
two threads accessing the same array during start up. I think that we may
have gotten this error message before we fixed that problem. Sorry my
memory on this subject isn't better.

Eric Rasmussen

  • Web Enterprise and IIS 3.0

We are currently experiencing a problem with Web Enterprise and IIS 3.0.
When a request is entered through a web site to our Web Enterprise back end,
using either fortecgi.exe or forteisapi.dll, the first request comes almost
straight through to the back end - this is seen by looking at the log file.
However, subsequent requests from the same browser session (IE or NS) take
consistently about 45 seconds to come through to the back end. If a new
browser session is started up, on the same PC, whilst waiting for the other
one to come through, a new request will once again go straight through
before the one that is waiting does.
This only happens on two external web servers - the internal ones don't do
it. I have compared setups of IIS on the internal and external web servers
without discovering what the cause could be. Monitoring the external web
server shows that for the initial request from a new browser session,
fortecgi.exe starts up and shuts down very quickly, but for subsequent
requests hangs around until the log file at the back end shows it has
    received the request.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Frank,
look out, it's likely that you are using a default JNDI name, so the name of the ear it's part of the JNDI name.
If the application is deployed in a EAR file, the default JNDI name is the EAR-FILE-BASE-NAME/EJB-CLASS-NAME/local for the stub for local interface. For the remote interface (see below), it is EAR-FILE-BASE-NAME/EJB-CLASS-NAME/remote.
If the bean is deployed in a JAR file, the JNDI names are EJB-CLASS-NAME/local and EJB-CLASS-NAME/remote.

  • Subject: RE :(forte-users) Web enterprise & user visibleservice Objects

A few months ago we faced a similar problem while migrating from classic
Forte to Web. We had to protect our investment in various frameworks that we
wrote for the classic Forte apps, which made use of extensive
    user-level-caching among other things.
We solved the problem using a custom routing mechanism. In brief, we created
several( replicated) server partitions that contains all the user-level
Service objects that existed in the class-Forte apps. Then we wrote a
'custom-router' which mimics Forte load-balanced router( dialog duration =
session ) to intelligently route incoming HTTPRequests to one of these
replicated partitions. The router would look at the some tag on the session
and then route the request to one of these replicated "client clone" using
the tag. Successive requests from the same client will go to the same
replicated partition so that you can use the client-cache or any other
    per-user services.
The advantages of this approach are
    1) You can continue to make use of caching and other user-level components
    that you may have.
    2) The web and classic Forte clients can work seamlessly if you write them
to use reference partitions that hosts the other shared( Environment visible
    ) service objects.
Ofcourse you will have to write ( and maintain )the custom-routing code and
also pay attention to house-keeping. For example, the burdon of cleaning up
the cache on logout or session expiration lies on you. If you don't do this,
then your new user might be looking at an old cache of some other user.
    Hope this helps,

Subject: (forte-users) Web enterprise & user visible service objects
    Hi
We have taken a forte application and converted it to run on the web using
    * forte web enterprise &
    * fortecgi.exe
In the forte application we have a user visible Local Cache Manager
Service Object (i.e. each users has their own copy) for storing things
    like
    * the details of the current user id
    * the details of the current client chosen
    * arrays that are needed by other windows
With web enterprise this service object is no longer user visible, how can
    we make it user visible?

  • Problem in 10gR2 enterprise manager after changing the servers hostname

    Hello,
I installed 10g R2 Standard Edition on a Suse Linux Server Enterprise 10.
I have the following problem :
I changed the host name from “a” to “b”.
I made the required changes in listener.ora and tns_names.ora.
I also rebuilded the enterprise manager by starting dbca and click on “Configure database options” etc etc.
After that the WEB enterprise manager seemed to work fine.
    I logged on the http://localhost:1180/em as sys/password/sysdba.
Then I clicked on maintenance > Backup setting the PROBLEM OCCURS !!!
I get again the web login page but in the connect string I get the old hostname.domain:1521:SID.
And naturally I cannot login because that hostname.domain:1521:SID does not exist.
Somebody knows how can I correct that?
    Thanks a lot

  • Installing Forte Web Enterprise.

    Hi,
Need help on installing the Forte Web Enterprise. After installing
the WebEnterprise, I am suppose to test on the IIOP capabilities on each
machine(refer to WebEnterprise Installation Guide r1.0.c).
    The steps are:
1 In the Fort&eacute; workshops, create a project named TestIIOPproject.
    2 Create a non-window class named TestMgr.
3 Create a TOOL class service object based on the TestMgr class.
4 Select the new service object in the Project Workshop.
5 Choose File > Configure as Server.
    6. In the Partition Workshop, double-click the service object.
    7. Click the Export tab.
8 Choose the External Type > IIOP command.
On the server node, all steps were carried out fine, but on my client
node, after I click the <Export> tab, under the <External Type>
droplist, there's no IIOP option. There options available are DCE,
Encina, Tuxedo, Object Broker and OLE. Why?
    Anybody knows anything about this?
    Alex Chin.

    Hi,
    <pre>
I am not sure what could be the problem. To debug, you
may edit the installer script and add "set -x" on second
line. Perhaps "set -x" is already there commented, remove
that comment. That way you will come to know on which
instruction it is throwing "File not found" error.
Other problems could be 1. file permissions, 2. path settings
    3. Improper download.
    Thanks
    Kalpesh

  • Problem with web.show_document with Jinitiator and Firefox

Not sure Firefox 2.0 is officially certified with Forms 9.0.4.1 and Jinitiatorbut regardless we have some users who want to use this combination. Everything seems to work fine except for the calls to web.show_document which opens a new browser window and displays some html etc.
The problem is that even though the client Forms JVM is Jinitiator (1.3.1.18 or .21) when the call to web.show_document occurs somehow the Sun Java Plugin starts and having the two JVM's at once causes a fatal crash in Firefox. Can anyone suggest a way to preven the second JVM from opening?
When the user uses the Sun Plug as the client Forms JVM there is no problem as the second JVM does not open. Unfortunately some users insist on Jinitiator with Firefox hence the problem. -quinn

    James,
This whole applet embedded in a browser model for webforms is driving us batty at times. The list of problems includes:
    1) Users are constantly tempted by browser controls and accidentally do all sorts of things to get them in trouble. This has included but not limited to using the navigation arrows, jumping off to read their email in the same window as the form and returning to a dead forms session, minimizing, resizing, blurring off to another window and then returning back by clicking on the title bar of the browser and wondering why the form doesn't tab etc.
Sure hobbling the browser by opening with limited functionality is a possibility but not a complete solution.
    2) New versions of browsers seem to break something. Both IE 7 and Firefox 2 have their own problems with web.show_document, especially file associations such as CSV and DBF and trying to open things in Excel in IE7.Firefox seems to have less problems for some yet some some oddities like the one that started this thread (and 2.0 opening new windows in tabs by default instead of windows).
    3) JVM jigsaw puzzle. Is it Jinit or Sun, which versions? Which combinations of browser version and JVM works.
    4) General fragility of the whole architecture. Running a client JVM in a web browser on top of a PC Operating system connectiong to a forms server over a network embedded in a Java Container server on a full blown web server running on a unix operating system is pushing the bubble. Throw in the mix that any of these components can be combined in numerous ways makes one wonder how it works as well as it does.
Still users randomly getting dropped connections to forms server (network gltches?). General sluggishness (poorly written forms?). Periods of users with unduplicatable errors primarily network related it would appear.
General feel that it is not rock solid stable. Perusing metalink documents on performance and tuning gives too much and too general info to troubleshoot so just shrug shoulders and say 'network problem'.
What's the solution? Java webstart would seem to help at least with the browser realted issues but is that supported and documented how to use yet. Also we'd lose web_show_document which is critical (could it be replaced by webutil calls to open browser?).

  • Web Enterprise Manager Default Port Number in Oracle 9i

    Enabeling Auditing on database 9.2.0.8
Web Enterprise Manager Default Port Number in Oracle 9i:
Does anyone know the default port number of the web enterprise manager (Oracle 9i)?
If I installed or configured enterprise manager and I forgot the port, where can I find it?

You must read the part in the Installation Documentation for certified repository databases to ensure that your database is OK.
My advice is always, never start any installation (not only Oracle) without reading the Documentation, Release Note and any README.
You will spend less time in the installation as Configuration if you use the required documentations for your platform.

  • Problem applying web template

We've recently upgraded from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. We created a new site under the 2013 environment then created a template from it. When we try to apply that template to a new site we get the following error:
    Problem applying web template
It then list the following features as not installed:
    List Feature
    Module Feature
    Web EventReceivers Feature
    Property Bag Feature
Here is a screenshot of the error
We haven't noticed any other issue up to this point. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

How many of those as solutions are from CodePlex? I think the property bag one is
    http://featureadmin.codeplex.com
It has a 2013 upgrade on
    http://pbs2013.codeplex.com
If its unclear what the other features these are, it may be worth running the feature manager. This will potentially enable you to identify and disable those solutions.  The link is

You can disable or remove that button, but that won't prevent users from making the changes on the about:config page directly.<br />
You can lock the related network.proxy prefs if you do not want users to change the connection settings.

  • Problem in Web adi for custom integrator.

    Hi All,
I never used Web ADI. i read some document and feel that it is easy... but facing problem while developing.
The basic requirement as follows -
    1. There is a custom database, say XXA.
    2. A staging table (xxa_table) for upload data from csv files to base table.
    3. Data upload using concurrent program from xxa_table to base table is working fine; but now I need to upload csv file from user desktop and load the csv data into staging table (xxa_table).
After applying below scripts I got some permission access error.
Please guide me to setup for upload csv data in to staging table using web adi.
So I run below scripts -

  • Problem with web.xml

    Hello,
    I have a big problem with web.xml.
i can run the servlet demos with the default web.xml, but when i try to user a costum web.xml files, i receive a 404 page not found on a link.
i have some dificulty to post here. but can somebody help my with my web.xml files?
    thanks for your help.
    have a nice day!

Be careful with the place of your files and folders. It's possible that you've just mentioned the cause of your problem.
    My web.xml is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    <web-app>
    <display-name>gco</display-name>
    <description>gco webapplicaties</description>
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>MopoController</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.gertcuppens.controller.MopoController</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>MopoController</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/MOPO</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </web-app>
When I want to call my web application locally, I use the URL http://localhost:8080/gco/MOPO.
The http://localhost:8080 calls Tomcat. With /gco, Tomcat knows it should look for a folder gco inside the webapps folder. This one should contain a WEB-INF/web.xml folder for further instructions.
With /MOPO Tomcat knows, having read the web.xml files of all webapps folders at start, it should look for a servlet with the name MopoController. And this MopoController points to the class org.gertcuppens.controller.MopoController. So, Tomcat knows where to find everything.
Try to see whether your Tomcat can find everything inside the folders using your web.xml file.
