FW400 Clashing with FW800?!

I have a Macbook Pro 2.16 running 10.5.2, and have my M-Audio ProjectMix I/O connected to the FW400 port. I also have an external Lacie 250GB Firewire HD connected to the FW800 port, with my iPod (Photo 60GB) daisy-chained to the Lacie HD via it's FW400 port.
I cannot run all of these at the same time without my computer giving the "you need to restart your computer" message. Everything runs VERY slow while the PrjectMix is plugged in at the same time as the Lacie. As soon as I plug in the iPod, I get the "restart' screen. So I can either have the HD and iPod running, or the ProjectMix.
VERY BIG pain in the backside!!!!!
Is it worth mentioning that the ProjectMix does not have 10.5 drivers yet?
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?

The FW800 and 400 share the same bus. Because of this, conect your firewire 800 device first so you can get the maximum speed. Now, you are connecting your FW400 ipod to your FW800 hard drive so that means the FW800 is now going a max of FW400. Do you need your iPod connected? Once your hard drive is connected, then connect your M-Audio device and get the iPod out of the daisy chai if you can.

    If your external drive does not have an independent power supply, you may wish to consider a couple of lower-cost options before tossing the drive. Bus-powered drives have no external power source and must get all their power from the computer. They can exceed the computer's USB energy budget.
    Cheapest option:
    1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
    This gets power from two of the computers USB porst sna can provide enough power to wake up an under-performaing bus-powered drive.
    If you don't have enough ports to use this, try the next cheapest option:
    Newer Technology 7 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter for Mac & PC
    Such a hub has a an independent power supply to make up for wahat the comptuer fails to provide.

  • Canon HV30 compatibility with FW800?

    Hi. I have a Canon HV30 and two iMacs - the first iMac is a 5 year old power-pc based iMac with a 6-Pin FW400 port. The second iMac is about 1 day old - and has just a single 9-pin FW800 port.
    The camera is not recognized by the new iMac.
    The camera is recognized just fine by the old iMac.
    We're using both iMovie and Final Cut Express.
    I have taken the entire setup to the genius bar at the apple store and spent 2 hours on the phone with support where we have tested the following:
    1. FW port on the new iMac works fine with FW800 devices (we tested with a disk drive)
    2. FW port on the new iMac works fine with an older FW400 Canon video camera
    3. tried a new 4 pin (from the camera) to 9 pin cable
    4. done every kind of hardware reset they could think of on the computer
    They are stumped. They left me with "must be a compatibility issue between this particular camera and the newer FW800 protocol or else it's a hardware problem, though we can't explain why the camera works fine on your older iMac". One last item - when we connect the camera - the Firewire section of the hardware display window says "Unable to list firewire devices" meaning that whatever is coming through from the camera to the computer is totally confusing the computer.
    Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi to everybody.
    I've the same problem with Snow Leopard and Canon HV30. My machine is iMac 27" I5 with 8GB of RAM.
    I checked my firewire port with firewire HardDisk and all was fine. So the firewire HW hasn't any problem.
    The camcorder wasn't never detected by Snow Leopard. I've the update S.O. running Mac OS X 10.6.2.
    I used several cables 9pin to 4 pin and also with adpters, but the camera was not detected... never detected.
    I also tried to connect the camera on 27" Base (Core2 duo) running on shops: the camera was detected without problems. So i think that the problem is on firewire drivers on the operative system.
    Any solution?

  • External drive not mounting with FW800

    Hi,
    I have a strange problem... I am trying to connect a SATA 3.5" drive (Seagate Barracuda) in a Vantec NexStar enclosure to a MacBook Pro (17"), and the drive will mount (either on the desktop or in Disk Utility) when connected with FW400 and with USB 2.0, but not with FW800 (the enclosure has all three). It will not mount on another 15" MacBook Pro either.
    The strange thing is that I CAN connect the drive to my Mac Pro through FW800 with no problems, and also to both a 15" and a 17" PowerBook G4!
    Does this sound like a driver problem? Like maybe the driver for the Vantec enclosure is not compatible with the MacBook Pro?
    If anyone has a clue what the problem might be, let me know!
    Thanks,
    Nayeli

    The problem turned out to be the FW 800 cables that came with the Vantec enclosure. For some reason they work with my Mac Pro, but not with either the 17" MacBook Pro or the 15" MacBook Pros I tried.

    Here's 2 messages from Creative Customer Support. Looks like there may be a clash with SP3 so, 'Come on Guys', let's get it fixed.
    I will be forwarding this to our ASG, and we will be looking more into this matter. And we would probably have a patch released for this issue in the near future. Best Regards,Creative Customer Support ServicesCreative Labs Europe
    I was able to talk to our Advanced Support Group (ASG) regarding this issue. And according to them, that it might be possible that SP3 would be the reason why you are unable to install the Creative ZEN Stone Starter Pack. According to our ASG, that the main difference between SP2 and SP3 is network security feature called Network Access Protection, which scans the integrity of a computer before connecting to a corporate network, which is absolutely useless for end users at home. As being one more security feature in Windows XP, this can possibly cause various problems with multimedia applications.

  • Adobe Reader clashing with web browser, problem. Help

    Hello,
    I've been using Foxit Reader before using Adobe Reader. Now when i'm trying to view pdf files in firefox there is this error showing "The Adobe Reader cannot be used to view pdf files in a web browser". I've tried reinstalling adobe reader but this problem persists. Below is a screenshot of the problem. This might be a bug in the program as i have done the needful and set adobe as the deafult pdf file manager or the web browser might be clashing with this version of adobe reader. I'm not sure why this is happening and would like someone to educate me on this.
    Please let me know of any solution to this problem. I'm on Windows XP.
    Thanks,

  • Frame won't start - 0xc0000005 error clash with ntdll.dll

    Good day everyone,
    After installing Framemaker 12, I cannot start the program. Windows 7 Enterprise gives me an error 0xc000005. Looking at the event viewer, there is a clash with windows file ntdll.dll. If I start Windows in safe mode, I can start Framemaker. Same with safe mode with networking. I tried turning off all services and system settings to no avail.
    I have all the most recent patches for Windows and Frame, tried every option out there on the Internet and Can't get it to work.
    Has anyone else encountered or heard of this? I thought I'd ask the users at large before giving in to contact Adobe and Windows support.
    I'm looking for any other options to start and use Framemaker. Running it only in Safe Mode won't do, as I can't print and the video is way too big.
    Thanks
    _Don

    > ntdll.dll
    You might right-click on C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll
    and report Version > File Version
    There are nearly 2500 entry points (API calls) in the various versions of NTDLL, so it's impossible to guess which function call may be triggering the crash. But if your NTDLL has been replaced by an incompatible version, that might be apparent (but doubtful, as probably everything that runs on post-NT Windows calls at least one API in this DLL). This assumes that FM is invoking the installed standard NTDLL on the machine. Thanks to Side-by-Side assemblies in Win98 and later, FM might be invoking it's own (older) version.
    You might also look in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Manifests
    and see if there's any evidence of a manifest file for Adobe Framemaker

  • Adobe Standard clash with Goldmine

    I have been happy using Adobe Acrobat Standard to create and
    edit pdf files. When I installed it it put two additional menu
    items into Word and Excel and other office applications. I never
    use these - I simply print my document to Adobe and get out of Word
    as quickly as I can.
    Recently I installed Goldmine which works very well. It
    requires a link with Word to mail merge and other useful things but
    this link keeps collapsing. I understand from Front Range that this
    is because it clashes with Acrobat - specifically the menu items it
    installs into Word.
    I cannot find a way to get rid of the Adobe menu items and
    neither can our IT support people. Front Range say the only way to
    get Goldmine to work properly is to uninstall Adobe - which I don't
    really want to do as I rely on it.
    Has anyone found a work around to allow Acrobat to co-habit
    with Goldmine? If anyone knows how to get rid of the Adobe menu
    items in Word I'd be interested to know - that might fix it.
    In hope of a helpful reply

  • Jsp name clashes with package of same name (WL5.1)

              I have the following directory structure, well not really, but anyway...

              The compilation of foo.jsp will fail stating that "jsp_servlet/_foo clashes with

              Well, adding a prefix like dir to get dir_foo only works if you
              don't have a class called dir_foo, right?
              I'm sure you can come up with other mechanims for munging names
              and I'm also sure that I can come up with examples where they
              don't work.

  • How to deal with CSSs that conflict/clash with CQ's CSSs?

    Hi there,
    I am working on building a website in CQ that uses free styles from www.99lime.com.  This is a requirement of the client, not my personal choice.
    The problem is that the kickstart styles are conflicting/clashing with CQ, such that when I open a page in the Content Finder, the Sidekick - Components tab is empty; if I go into Design mode to ensure components are selected, the Component lists don't display; I see the component groups (general, etc) but then a bunch of lines.  When I comment out the kickstart.css, the Sidekick displays correctly so that's how I know the kickstart styles are the issue.
    How do I resolve these conflicts without having to rename every element in the kickstart css's?
    Thanks in advance.
    New CQ User.

    You can uses CSS selectory specificity to help. Add a class to the wrapping div or body for your apps pages ex .kickstarter. Then just prefix each selector with the .kickstarter class.
    Using LESS you can just wrap the whole of the file in a single nested rule like so:
    .kickstarter {
        HTML ELEMENTS
        a{color:#4D99E0;outline:0;}
        a:active{color:inherit;}
        a:visited{}
        a:hover{}
        a img{border:0;}
        strong,b{color:#000;background:lightyellow;position:relative;top:0;left:0;padding:2px 5px;}
        strike{}
        em,i{}
        .hide{display:none;}
        .show{display:block;}

    Thanks for replying Arnout.
    But I don't think the error is as you suggest, the 'index of' your side must be the text wrapping on this forum.
    You can see the original page here, where the popup works.
    http://opie.monkeyshrine.com/visas/russia.php#hongkong
    And the newer page here, where the only change I can spot on the code is the Spry CollapsiblePanel sidebar
    http://www.monkeyshrine.com/visas/russia.php#hongkong
    You should  'click here for visa prices' to see the popup (not) working.
    Any other ideas?

  • ARP table clash with checkpoint and ASA firewal issue

    We are migrating DMZ segments from a checkpoint to a ASA 5585 firewall that we had connected to the same segments as the Checkpoint except on different IP addresses then the checkpoint interfaces. The Checkpoint interfaces are the default gateway for the servers. When I implemented the NATs entries below we experienced an arp table clash with the checkpoint and ASA firewall on the local segments that caused a application outage. What was determined was that the checkpoint firewall was showing that all the IP addresses in particular on vlan130 segment was associating the MAC address of the ASA interface instead of the real sever MAC address. I need assistance understanding the reason why the Checkpoint was pointing the ARP entries for many different address on VLAN130 to the ASA firewall MAC?

    We crosschecked MAC addresses and this is what we found:
    Checkpoint ARP table:
    10.121.130.101 44:2b:3:30:ab:a3 3285
    ASA ARP table:
    isxasa04/wwy-legacy# sh arp | i 10.121.130.101
    VLAN130 10.121.130.101 001a.4b06.dd45 10525
    Server real address provided by processing:
    0x001A4B06DD45
    When we saw that the Checkpoints had a different/wrong entry we shut down all the physical ports on the new ASAs (except for failover and management);
    Kevin cleared the ARP table on the Checkpoints and problem was solved;
    Later I saw this:
    isxasa04# sh int | i MAC
    MAC address 442b.0330.ab9a, MTU not set
    MAC address 442b.0330.ab9b, MTU not set

    MAC address 442b.0330.aba2, MTU not set
    MAC address 442b.0330.aba3, MTU not set

    The Asa is proxy Arping those macs. Turn off proxy arp and put in static arp entries until you completely shut down the checkpoint.

  • Connecting FW400 device to FW800 port

    I suspect this has been asked and answered before, but after searching here for quite a while, I couldn't find it.
    Question is, if a camcorder is plugged into the MBP 17" FW400 port, is there any problem having a FW400 external HD connected at the same time to the FW800 port? I realize I would need the appropriate cable for the 400->800 connection, but other than that, I'm assuming this should work just fine. Correct?
    I have a MBP on order and it's scheduled to arrive in a couple of days. Just want to make sure I won't fry either the MBP or the HD.
    MBP 17" on order; aging G4 but still smokin'   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   FCS, CS2 pkg

    Richard, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try after I get my apps loaded in the MBP, but I don't think that'll work. Or, at least it doesn't work with my G4 tower Mac.
    I use Final Cut pro, and what works best is capturing the video files to a second internal drive, which is an option not available with a notebook. Lacking that, then next best is capturing to an external drive. Even tho the firewire ports are on the same bus, its also best to have the camcorder and external HD connected to separate FW ports on the Mac.
    Connecting the camera to a FW port on the external HD that the video files are being saved to, at least with a G4 tower Mac, is asking for trouble.
    But, with all that extra horsepower inside a MBP, it might not be a problem. Whatever the case, I think I'll have a FW800->400 cable standing by, just in case.
