Fw410 macos 10.5.4 - Perian was the source of trouble

After almost throwing the fw410 in the trash, I found what was crashing the fw410 interface/mixer and making the fw410 unusable.
After opening Console in utilityprograms, I could see that Perian(an A/V quicktime component for watching youtube stuff ao) interfered with the firewire 410.
I uninstalled perian which is done in system preferences, and now the fw410 works with driver 1.8.2.

I run Perian here, it doesn't interfere at all with the 410 driver on 10.5.4. The 410 driver was just the same before Perian as after.
I have had best results with the 1.8.3 build 6 beta driver - all the later ones, despite improving in some areas, are a little crashy for me and have a tendency to crash out the 410 requiring a reset.

Was the Maxtor One Touch a mistake?

Hello all. I recently bought A Maxtor Turbo One Touch for back up AND storage. 300GB. It works fine and it is Firewire so I have a bootable drive, but I can't just copy to it. I must perform a back up. The instructions do not mention any options and the web site just wants to know what I want to buy.
Shall I quit sniveling or are there options? This was the only firewire drive in the stores. Great price after the new year. The net might have offered network or other firewire options but buying over the wire doesn't work in my situation. Cash and carry for me.

In Disk utility, select the drive on the left (the top listing for it if there are two) and then click the 'partition' tab. This allows you to create more than one partition on the drive. The Options button allows you to select what partition type they will be - in this case select Apple Partition Map.
Formatting the drive is a separate action, done after selecting the partitioning of the drive.
Once partitioned and formatted, you will need to 'clone' your existing MacOS installation to one of the partitions, since as Neil pointed out, the MacOS installer will not recognize an Apple Partition Map drive as a valid place to install MacOS on an Intel-based Mac. You can clone the MacOS using software such as SuperDuper! (http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html) or CarbonCopyCloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html).

But it does somehow my English security answers do not work on a Japanese Question especialy if I did not choose that question I set up the multiple choice In English and wrote the answers in English or Roman and set them langauge preferences in English, do you really think you can correctly write english name or word in Japanese they write a police patrol car pato caa パトカア　they do not have r and l .So it is my choice to make my security easy for me and as difficult for others to hack.But they also have patororoo choo meaning ' now patrolling ' so why they have pato caa patrol car and patoro patrol and have thousands of Chinese words kanji they can find patrol.

Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.

I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.

I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

I booted up this morning to find my voice over feature active. A black bar was at the lower left corner of my screen. When I began to click on the users in my login window it would not respond. All that I saw was the black bar saying authentication busy.

All that I saw was the black bar saying authentication busy. I was not able to restart, I was not able to switch users, I was not able to shut down. I decided to manually shut down my Mac. when it booted back up I was looking at the disk utility screen. When I clicked on repair or race it indicated that my hard drive had already been arranged. I was looking at completely formatted drive and I was having to either restore from Time Machine or reinstall lion. I had a back up but why did this happen?

A possible workaround could be to have the horizontal scroll bar visible all the time.

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast. If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used. The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID . Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network. A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default. Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in. HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you. You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files. Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

I have had my apple mail set up for some time now, through Gmail, and it has worked fine. I recently moved into a college dorm and now my apple mail gives me this error message

I've tried everything I could think to try, including taking the SSL off, restarting, quitting apple mail, redoing all the settings, and nothing seems to be helping me connect. What are the settings for both your Incoming and Outgoing servers, including port number, authentication method, and whether or not SSL is enabled for both?
Also, it's possible your college is blocking traffiic from Google, so you might try changing the DNS Servers by going to System Preferences > Network > Configure > TCP/IP and enter these two:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click Apply Now, quit System Preferences and restart Mail and any other Internet applications you were running. Check to see if Mail still gives you problems.

All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

My ipod was sst up/registered using my mac computer. Unfortunately, it was plugged into a pc and all my songs, pics, etc were erased. Now when i plug it into my mac to sync it, my ipod doesn't even show up in the source list. I can't restore it. Any ideas
