FWD & RW Controls Gone Wonky

I've had my Creative Zen 8gb for not quite 8 months. A couple of months ago the RW control started doing this very annoying thing where I would be holding down to rewind (I use it for audio books so sometimes I want to go back several minutes), and suddenly the player would skip to the next track (yes, FORWARD). Yesterday, the FWD control started doing the same thing, only skipping BACKWARDS a track.
Anyone ever heard of something like this, and/or have any notion whether it can be fixed? Or am I going to get a new MP3 player for Christmas?

The cleanup seems to have done it, though I sure don't understand how. :-) I didn't have to do the full restore/reformat option.
The buttons even felt odd before, like they weren't pushing properly, and now they feel normal again. (That's gotta be my imagination, though.)

Java gone wonky!!

Hi,
I've tried out one of the lastest hint from MacWorld which you can globally expand or shrink the application GUI, using the following command.
defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor .75
But after I've played with it and set it back to 1, my NetBeans (java) IDE has gone wonky.The text are overlayed, the tree arrow does not display, scrollbar missing, weird font etc... Apparently someone else is experiencing similar problem with another java application.
I just tried emptying /library/cache and ~/library cache and fix permission using disk utilities and restarting many times. But my java IDE is still wonky.... =(
Help me restore my Java environment please.....

the file in question is in fact in the ~/Library/Preferences folder... however it is hidden...
the name of the file is .GlobalPreferences.plist
you can remove it by running this command from your terminal
'rm .GlobalPreferences.plist'

Touchscreen gone wonky

All of the sudden my iPhone touchscreen has gone wonky. Sometimes it doesn't respind at all, sometimes it types a whole series of letters.
This is true for emails, contacts, Facebook - across applications. Making me crazy. I had a protectivce screen covering but took it off thinking that might be the problem. NOT! Help me.

Basics right out of the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If you tried ALL these steps, then there is no "fix", as it's likely a hardware issue. If your phone is under warranty it will be replaced free of charge unless there's obvious damage to the phone.

Apple Voice Control Gone Nuts

I thought I had this under control before, but my ipod touch 5 just updated, and now the Voice Control has gone insane. I just have to leave it sitting on a desk, and voice control will pop up, and just do all sorts of random things. The last little bit, it's usually gone straight to shuffle, followed by the random pauses and fast-forwards. And if I shut voice control off (hitting the home button), it doesn't matter, because it pops right back up again. I thought voice control was only supposed to activate if you pressed on the home button long enough, and then shut off when you tap the home button once. Why does it instead randomly keep on coming up like this? Basically, Apple has given me a useless device. I don't understand why this sort of thing doesn't ever get fixed. Or, if I'm doing something wrong, what is it?

If you are using headphones try with no headphones or different headphones.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Quick (floating) Audio level control gone. How do I reenable it?

I have no idea how, but suddenly the floating Quick Audio control is gone (that normally hovers above your track for quickly raising/lowering audio). I've looked all over on how to reenable it.
I've checked under 'Window', I've checked in settings, I've spent 15 minutes googling it and can't find any solution but I'm assuming it's something simple that's right in front of me.
I found an image online and took a snapshot of what it is incase I'm getting the name wrong

In View menu Show HUD (Head Up Display) or Shift + U keyboard shortcut. There is also a setting in Preferences/General for "Show HUD for selection ranges only" if you only want it to show when you have selected some audio in the Waveform view.

Brightness controls gone mad with lastest -Syu

Hello.
I have an ASUS M51VA with an ATI HD3650.
Recently, when I updated my system it installed latest gnome and kernel packages.
After that I lost control of the brightness FN keys, which I previously used with the help of lapsus and worst of all, the brightness has gone crazy! It keeps blinking, slowly increasing or decreasing, then it stays stable for some time but then it get all crazy again.
Right now I can barely see what I'm typing, but when I started this post it was blinking.

My problems started when I restarted right after the update.
I'm afraid it might damage the backlighting system because it's always changing the brightness level.
This doesn't seem good for the eyes and less for the screen.
Does anyone at least can help me on how to make it brighter?
I used lapsus, but it's no longer working. I already tried changing lapsus settings through dbus, but with no luck.

It's always on 1, even when the screen is at the highest brightness level.

Also tried to add "acpi_backlight=vendor" in the end of the kernel line, but didn't make any difference.
Here I have a small video capturing the center of the screen. That's not me playing with the controls or the camera ajusting to lightning conditions, it's the backlight goofing me around!!!

Slider bar and volume control gone! how do I fix this

I am new to mac and i just lost the slider bar and the top most section of the itunes controls. I don't know what happened. I can't get it back. The controls via menu work. Also the red amber and green dots on the corner are also gone!
I tried dragging the itunes app to the trash and reloading it but it was restored the same way as before. Does anyone know what went wrong or how to restore itunes to the proper display?

Hover-over play/pause/FF pop-up controls gone

I'm on Windows 7. It used to be that I'd hover over the Spotify tab on the task bar and get a pop-up control menu that would give me the option of pausing a song or skipping or going back a track. Now I noticed it's gone. Is this a bug or was it permamently removed? This was such a great UI feature. Why the heck would it be removed? I don't understand why something would be removed that made Spotify easier to use. Now I have to go through extra steps to pause or play a track. It's been numerous times I've seen this happen with Spotify where you guys will remove something simple such as ability to search for a track, and then it's gone for months. Why do you do this to me??!! Please bring back the hover-over controls on the taskbar! And while you're at it, please allow the song to scroll once again on the taskbar. It used to do that, so I could see the artist and full song name while I was working on something else and not have to click over to Spotify to see the whole artist/title. Come on guys, these little things are simple but make the program so much more user-friendly. Put them back in!

ok so just after I posted the above message, on my way home and it magically starts to work again.
I'm going to blame the user.

N80 MP3 Player Controls Gone Crazy??

The problem I am having is with the mp3 player.
Some mp3 tracks are over an hour long (long radio shows or dj mixes).
When I try and fast forward through to say 01:10:00 (HH:MMS)
it doesn't quite work correctly.
The player just goes to a random place, and also displays the incorrect time - for eg: if i fwd to 01:10:00 and then release the fast fwd button, the display could show 00:13:00 even though the location of where I fast forwarded to is different. And in any case, the display of 00:13:00 doesn't mean it's at 13 minutes.. it could in fact be at 48 minutes (or whatever).
The same applies to rewinding.
Is this a bug?
Has this been fixed with newer firmware updates?
Anyone else have this problem?
Should I ask for a replacement unit?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Parental Controls gone mad

Have you any thought about this irregularity, posted under another topic elsewhere, but so far without replies? If I apply "parental controls" to an account for limiting things a bit, all programs permitted there will run, but any that need internet connection can't connect. Even without any restrictions on Internet use. Remove the parental control, and all is well. I included System Preferences once so I could check the Network status from the limited account, and it reads as normal.... but no connection for anything. Not the browser, not a weather forecast, not the calendar. Nothing. Have anyone experienced this? The Apple dealer had a blank stare when I asked about it. I am a home user and not a technical person.

When the users and groups were converted from "NetInfo" to "DirectoryService", the group records were imported as-is, but various parts of the Leopard system apparently aren't happy with the old format.
Try fixing the "managed" user's primary group's record by adding a 'RealName' property, and possibly add the user explicitly to 'GroupMembership', after which the user should be able to access the internet.
The same change should also cause "Get Info" to properly display their "group"

Have parental controls gone mad in Mountain Lion?

I have two children each with separate accounts, for 2 years the settings have been to automatically restrict web sites according to the content rules set by Apple. Its worked brilliantly with nominal customization! Fab - Until Moutain Lion.
The settings I think remain the same. However, every website the kids try to use through Chrome or Safari puts a block on it asking for an administrator password as the computer is trying to access a secure website which is restricted. - I didn't restrict it (I don't think) so how can I stop it happening.
It is also happening with other applications such as Skype.
The web has become unusable for ordinary school work for both children, I need to resolve this without turning off parental controls - can anyone help please?

CS5 Offset Path gone wonky

Been offseting paths .25" for a couple of weeks. Now AI has decided to offset the path both .25" and -.25" at the same time. Not good.
My first step would be to trash prefs. Can someone tell me how to save my actions before I trash the prefs. Can someone suggest a different solution to the wonky offset path thing that's going on?

Always a good idea.
I would like the preference to be user defined then after the user defines it once they can restore the preferences automatically to that defined preference and not have to manually do it each time AI requires a clean preference folder.

IPhone Music Touch Controls Gone Loopy!!

I have an iphone 3G and OS 3.0.
Since upgrading to OS 3.0 my ipod on my iphone acts strangely.
If you use the touch volume slider at the bottom, Skip a song or fast forward or rewind the song stops playing.
Using the hardware volume controls works without affecting it.
Letting a song play without any intereference will work and it will then goto the next song seamlessly...but if you skip to the next song or have mucked around with the controls causing a song to stop it will not play the next song, just stop at the end!
After every action I have to press Play/Pause and Pause doesnt work, I just have to press any other button and it will pause!
This affects other apps too that have a volume slider.
It all works perfectly when my iphone crashes into safe mode.
Can anyone help!!

Safari gone wonky

I have a chat room that I used to be able to click on to links by others. I never could copy and paste myself. Now I can't even click links.
So, I tried to reload Safari. I get a message stating:
You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer.
Only thing is, I have 10.5.5 so I shouldn't be getting this message.
So I reloaded 10.5.5 and that didn't work either.
I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Right. I didn't delete anything. I just moved Safari to the trash as sort of a holding position. But I didn't empty it. After trying to reload Safari, which didn't work, and the system, which did load but didn't change anything, I pulled Safari out of the trash and put it back in the application folder and so on...
Then I loaded Firefox. It works. It's a little too PC for my taste, but it works.
Thanks for the advice. I will try loading Safari from the disc.
By the way. I regularly fix the permissions. That was the first thing I tried. I am still baffled about why Safari went wonky on me. It worked for a while after I loaded the 10.5.5 update so I doubt if the problem is there.
Just so you know, I also use Camino. But in a Parachat chat room it's worse than Safari. Apple really should do something about running the latest Java updates that are available to PC users. It's almost the only complaint I have about the OS on this computer.
