FX 5200 sidebanding addressing?

The FX 5200 support sidebanding addressing?

8x does not support sideband addressing.
I believe that sideband addressing can be enabled if you change the settings in the bios to disable 8x so the AGP bus is restricted to 4x, then you should be able to enable sideband addressing. At least on nVidia cards anyway.

  • Sideband addressing

    Hi all,
A quick question......I have noticed that my graphics card does not have its sideband addressind active.  When I first installed the drivers that came with the MSI CD I could have swore that I noticed that this was ticked, now with the 65.72 Dets in it is blanked out with no opption to enable.
    any ideas are welcome.
    Kind Regards,
    Andrew

    Thanks Mate, now I know.

  • Agp 8x Problem on via chipset

    Agp 8x Problem
    Hi there,
    my system is;
    MSI KT4V (MS-6712) 8X support via chipset
    512 400mhz ram
    asus 9520 fx 5200 128 megabyte ram (8X)
    AMD athlon XP 2500
Now , the problem is when I install agp drivers for via chipset (4 in 1) the games starts quitting, giving C++ error, or flickers. If I dont install this driver everytihng is fine. I mean I bought 8X support cards but I cant use them???
When I go to display settings ---advance and click on the "GeForce fx 5200" tab it writes that AGP: PCI mode
But when I install "4 in 1 drivers", in the same place it writes "AGP 8X"
    Now what should I do??
    thanx anyway '

Hm, I found this info on Viaarena's forum, http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=30&threadid=51548
I'm not good at AGP technology, but what I take in from it, is that the AGP port is fully opened already, and 4X or 8X AGP don't make a difference. The roof is already reached, you could say.
As close as I can find out you have a XFX, no sorry, a PINE, no sorry, a AZZA mainboard with a KT400 (no 'a') chipset that 'offically' supports the 100 (200) and 133 (266) mhz buss speeds.
    http://www.azzaboard.com/kt400alh.html
Into this board you have inserted a 166 (333) mhz processor (AMD Athlon XP 2500+).
So, in effect, your AGP buss speeds are beyond spec.
Usually Nvidia cards are quite 'forgiving' in this respect, but you have to turn off both 'fastwrites' and 'sideband addressing'.
SO, rather than being a VIA 'problem', it is an incompatable hardware 'problem'.

  • Help OCing Neo2 Plat w/ 6800

Ok, just for a heads up, I used the search and I couldn't find anything related to my problem, so here I am. With that being said, my specs are in my sig. Here's the problem:
I built this rig about 1 1/2 months ago. I have had a few issues, but nothing major that couldn't be solved by reading through the forums here.
Anyway, I finally decided to OC it a bit. I had previously only been playing with the BFG 6800. I had gotten some pretty good AM3 scores out of it. The CPU OCing was a piece of cake. I kept the multi at 11 and just kept raising the FSB. Now at about 223-225FSB I notice that Aquamark3, or any other 3D app,  starts to become slightly glitchy. Some weird flashes of stuff here and there. This is with the graphics card running stock speeds of 350/700. I then lowered the CPU down to 11 x 209 @ 2.3G and the problem went away, even OCing the vid card as high as 380/760 wasn't a problem. I tried raising the FSB to 225 and the problem persists, regardless of vid card clocks.
Here's what I have tried so far. With the card running stock clocks of 350/700 I have tried setting the AGP frq. to 66,67,68 and 69, to no avail. I'm pretty sure the norm is 67 for it to lock. Thinking it may be my RAM, I tried it with the 166 divider, rather than the 200. So at 225FSB, the RAM should be @ 191FSB if I'm not mistaken. That didn't work, so then I tried the HTT multi, thinking it could be related to that. I tried it at 5x(when FSB below 209), 4x(when FSB sbove 209) and 3x(with ANY FSB) and still nothing worked.
I'm really kind of stumped with this and don't really know what else I can try? Is it possible the AGP/PCI lock is just failing? Is there another setting somewhere in the BIOS I need to look for? Also, the BFG 6800 has been softmodded and has all pipes enabled(16/6). Could that be the cause? If it is, why would the graphics only go crazy at higher clock speeds(hmm...I'll have to persue that)? Like I said, I'm just stumped here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Scooter, the FSB will NOT go past 225 before the graphics get all crazy. I've tried different multi's, memory dividers, memory voltages, AGP speeds, AGP frequencies, fastwrites, sideband addressing and a ton of other crap I can't even remember at this point. If there is a configuration that works, among all the options that there are to play with, the odds of me finding it are the same as winning the lottery.
I also would like to mention that this faulty board does indeed have a 6800/MSI Nforce3 conflict that is totally unacceptable!!! I don't have the same issue with the 5900 in this box that I do with the 6800! I posted in the umpteen page thread regarding the 6800/Nforce3 conflicts too...After 3 previous MSI purchases, I can honestly say that this is the straw that broke Sillys back!
This thread has been up for almost a week and not a single moderator has even offered a lame assed solution to make me feel as if someone gave a ratsass, or was trying to help, so much for the user to user help eh?...Scooter, thanks for at least trying bro, I'll catch ya around AIM...I'm done.
    Thanks.

  • BIOs not detecting ram properly

I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum, with paired 2 x 512 meg of Corsair DRR 400 ram (TWINX1024-3200C2PT), it should be picked up as DDR400 Dual channel, but when the pc boots up its picked up as DDR333 single channel - i am assuming this is wrong!
I have updated the BIOs, the ram is in the right slots for dual channel
I am guessing that i need to set the ram settings to auto in the bios, Corsair state the ram should be run at 200mhz 2.5-3-3-6, but i am not sure which settings in the BIOs the 2.5-3-3-6 refer to, could someone please explain what each number is in the bios settings please! i am hoping this will sort out my system, although it works, it is benchmarking lower than before i upgraded it!!!
i used to get 15000 of 3Dmark2001, now i get 12000, (though it keeps pausing when the demos run, but it doesnt in 3Dmark03 which also gives a low score), i should be getting 23000+
    please help!!!

  • K8MM-V+ ATi9800 = HANG's

I changed my motherboard to K8MM-V after I got the mother board and start using it
    I got problem,
When I use my ATi 9800 pro in the motherboard the computer start hangs and restart
With out any warning msg or note I thought the problem was from my ATi 9800
i tried the 9800 in another computer and  start using it with OUT  any problem or hangs
For about 20 hours with out problem’s.
Then I tried another graphic card in K8MM-v motherboard and work greet with out any problem.
I don't know what I must do now should I go back and use the old mother board so i can use the 9800
Or i can find solution for my problem and keep the K8MM-v ???
    Motherboard: MSI K8MM-V (K8M800)
    BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
    processor:AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800
    Ram: 2x512MB DDR 400 Twinmos
    graphic card:Sapphire ATiRADEON 9800 PRO AGP (256MB)
storage: Digital Westren 320GB IDE and 160GB SAtA
Plaxtor PX -716A DvD writer and MSi DvD RoM.
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
    PSU: MEC Sollers Power supply
    out put -12v/0.8A
       +3.3/28A
       +5V5B/2A
    MSI Drivers+ATi Drivers=

That PSU should work OK so lets move on to a couple other issues.
In Bios set the AGP multiplier to 4x and turn off all other features like Fastwrites and Sideband addressing.
Make sure that Spread Spectrum is also off if you have that in your Bios.
Enter Safe mode and remove any drivers for the Vid card and you may also need Driver Cleaner (Google for that one) to clean any reminants of old drivers.
Then try installing the latest drivers for your card.
Also if you have VIA Hyperion drivers installed reinstall the VIA 4in1 drivers that came on your MSI MB cd.

  • Downloadable VGA Bios?

I cannot use LiveUpdate to update the bios of my graphics card as I don't have internet access at my home.
Is there any downloadable version of VGA Bios for MSI graphics card?
    I'm using Geforce4 MX440 SE ( MS-8878 )
    TQ!

Actually I have problem turning on SBA and Fastwrite. I'm using K7T Turbo2(MS-6330 Ver5.0) motherboard.
When I run some benchmarking program (eg. 3D Mark 2001), the status of sideband addressing (SBA) and fastwrite (FW) of both the card and motherboard are shown as follow:
    Graphics Card:
    SBA: not supported
    FW: supported but not enabled
    Motherboard:
    SBA: supported but not enabled
    FW: not supported
I tried very hard to force the SBA features using variety of software (Rivatuner, PowerStrip), but all failed.
Is it possible to force on either (or both) features? I heard that there are ways to force the features in low-level.
    Helps & Advices pls!
    TQ!

  • K7T Turbo2(MS-6330 V5) AGP Features FAQ

    Hi! I'm using K7T Turbo2(MS-6330 Ver5.0) motherboard and just bought an MSI Geforce4 MX440 64MB DDR (MS-8878 SE).
When I run some benchmarking program (eg. 3D Mark 2001), the status of sideband addressing (SBA) and fastwrite (FW) of both the card and motherboard are shown as follow:
    Graphics Card:

    Motherboard:
    SBA: supported but not enabled
    FW: not supported
I tried very hard to force the SBA features using variety of software (Rivatuner, PowerStrip), but all failed.
Experts here, do you think it is possible to force on either (or both) features? I heard that there are ways to force the features in low-level.
    Helps & Advices pls!

    Hi,
    From MSI,
Enabling SBA & FW didnt really add much to the performance. There might be potential compatibility & stability issue when enabling SBA & FW. So we will not let be enabled
After more clarification, this explanation is for both motherboard and display card of yours!

  • Delay after Windows XP loads

Ok guys I fell alittle better about this board now (although I have 12 days left on my RMA #).  I have the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R with a Seagate 120GB 8MB cache SATA Hard dive installed on the South Bridge.  When Windows XP Professional is finished loading and I am at the desktop I am unable to access my DSL connection to the internet, I click on the icon to connect and I have about a minute and a half wait before it connects.  I am also unable to access the device manager or the monitor refresh rates.  Now if I wait the minute and a half the hard drive will run for a few seconds and then I am able to click on the DSL connection and it almost instantly connects.  Same with device manager and the refresh rates.  I am sure there are other items with delay as well.  Now I do not have this problem start until I update to service pack one (I have reinstalled windows so many time due to my video card troubles) Any suggestions as to what is actually causing the delay?

    Hi to all,
Ok, delays caused are very general... there are a few reasons to this, so I post them here and try out to see if that solved your delaying probs...
    1. Too many background running programs during bootup.
    2. Anti-Virus doing screenscan during startup.
    3. Settings of P-ATA and S-ATA in BIOS disabled.
    4. Cached shadow enabled.
    5. Low PSU wattage for +3V,+5V rails, if possible +12V.
    6. CPU usuage high due to system tray programs during startup.
For AGP card not showing 8x:
    1. Try setting AGP Capabilities to "Auto".
    2. Set AGP Aperture to 128MB or 256MB.
    3. Update to latest drivers(do clean un-installation 1st).
    4. Disable SBA(SideBand Addressing).
Hope my info and directions helps...
    All the Best... :D!!!

  • XP64 and AGP acceleration

I have posted this question on many forums, as I am not the only one experiencing this problem. The scenario is as follows. I have a Master2-FAR with 2 Opteron 246 CPUs, and a new GeForce 6800 Ultra card (though this is not limited to the 6800 series). Latest nVidia Forceware drivers at the time, 61.76, and Windows XP x64 Edition build 1218 (this problem also exists in 1184 and the modified version of 1069.) The BIOS is updated to the latest beta BIOS version provided by MSI, and well, as for VIA chipset drivers, there are none to install in XP64 - "AGP" drivers are provided by M$. If I goto DxDiag, AGP texture acceleration is enabled. However, if you run CPU-Z, or any software diagnostics that can tell you about AGP support, there is no AGP transfer rate/displayed as 0x, no sideband addressing, no faswrite support. All BIOS settings are optimally configured. The nVidia driver displays the card as running in PCI mode, there is no AGP setup tab, whether the driver is modified with Coolbits 2 or not. A 6800 Ultra running in PCI mode is NOT a happy situation. Anyone with any information on it, please, please, please help. This is a very frustrating situation.

So I broke down and installed XP32, just to see how fast it would run in comparison - the difference is night and day. First off, the nVidia driver says that my card is running on the AGP bus at an 8x transfer rate. Secondly, the nVidia 6800 Nalu demo runs with no choppiness, it's rather beautiful actually. 3DMark03 scores went up from 6000 3DMarks to 11914 3DMarks. Almost double the score!!! 3DMark 2001 went from 14800 3DMarks to over 20364 3DMarks... the "Wings of Fury" benchmark was hitting over 1500 FPS at some points in 3DMark03. So the problem is most definitely not hardware. The only thing I think that probably is the culprit has to do with the stupid Microsoft CPU to AGP controller. It may not be picking up on the motherboard ID that corresponds to the AGP controller. Since the next release of XP64 is scheduled to be within a few days (fingers crossed, M$ always messes around with release dates), I'm hoping they've solved that problem. However, if anyone wants to give this a try, I'd be happy if you  have any other suggestions.

  • !AGP 2x!, !GeForce 3!, !MSI-6380! Problem

    Hello people!
    I have got a problem.
First my computer: AMD Athlon XP 1800+, MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU (or 6380) bios version 3.3, further is only my videocard important I think: an ASUS v8200 GeForce 3 Ti 200.
OK, i got my pc: it worked very fine! But then I discovered a thing: my videocard was running at 2x AGP!!!! And I have paid for 4x! Cause my videocard AND my motherboard can both suply 4x AGP. So I turned "4x" AGP on in the bios, that worked but when I started my computer again, I installed "Smartdocter". It is a program with which you can see the voltages of your card, well, I know that 4x AGP uses 1.5 Volt and 2x AGP 3.3 Volt...
4x AGP was turned on in the bios (infoview and other programs said that 4x was turned on, so that fits), but MY MOTHERBOARD supplied 3.3 Volt @ 4x AGP!!! is this wrong?? In 3d games there sometimes... (how do you say this in english?) well... you see thing you don't see when everything is stable? does that makes sense? it doesn't crash, but the game is not uh a good view.
I hope that 3.3 Volt doesn't mess up my card or motherboard...
    Well, please respond! Please!!!!
    Thanks Thanks Thanks!
    Wizard

That card is a 3.3 volt I have one in my second computer regardless of 2 x or 4x the issue is the sideband addressing. Also the 4x dont work it is pointless to try on the card. The main board I use for the card is the p3v4x both asus I contacted asus buy phone and I was told that 4x is instable with that board, I have read others with boards more recient than the board i used and the 4x problem  is still happening so I am thinking it is the card itself. but you may try to disable the sideband addressing if it already isent.
I like the card for the 3dsterio and the tv turner and the capturing ability it is used all the time, do not let the card go if it is the asus delux it is a gem.

  • FX5200 and win98

Can anyone recommend the best drivers for WIN98/fx5200 128 graphics card. My current drivers downloaded form Nvidia only seem to allow certain features to work.
Also since I installed the card my system has started to freeze occasionally. This also happend when I was using win xp pro and the correct MSI setup cd.

says that there is not an AGP Device installed. In the BIOS it is set to 4X AGP. Don't know why it can't detect the card.
Reinstall your motherboard/chipset drivers - specifically, the GART driver - that should take care of that problem.

But, it won't let me choose AGP Traffic Enable or 4X. And does anyone know what SBA Enable means? What the heck is SBA?
Search for the 'Coolbits' Registry tweak - that should solve that problem.  (or use RivaTuner - http://www.guru3d.com)
SBA is SideBand Addressing - an AGP feature that theoretically should provide a speed boost - when/if it works.  Most people run into trouble when it's enabled.
