FX5200 and win98

Can anyone recommend the best drivers for WIN98/fx5200 128 graphics card. My current drivers downloaded form Nvidia only seem to allow certain features to work.
Also since I installed the card my system has started to freeze occasionally. This also happend when I was using win xp pro and the correct MSI setup cd.
System Spec:
Win98,
P3 500MHz
PC100 Systemboard/slot 1/ Socket 370
256mb sdram
Unknown PSU.
Thanks.
 Tom.

says that there is not an AGP Device installed. In the BIOS it is set to 4X AGP. Don't know why it can't detect the card.
Reinstall your motherboard/chipset drivers - specifically, the GART driver - that should take care of that problem.

But, it won't let me choose AGP Traffic Enable or 4X. And does anyone know what SBA Enable means? What the heck is SBA?
Search for the 'Coolbits' Registry tweak - that should solve that problem.  (or use RivaTuner - http://www.guru3d.com)
SBA is SideBand Addressing - an AGP feature that theoretically should provide a speed boost - when/if it works.  Most people run into trouble when it's enabled.

    Yesterday I tried installing Oracle 8i Personal Edition from CD. I completed installation up to "Database Creation in Progress", initializing phase. It stuck at 85%. The CD did not make any noise, and it stayed at 85% for 53 minutes.

  • GF4 Ti4200 and Win98 - HELP ! serious problem with drivers !

    Ok, I could successfully install the MSI GF4 Ti4200 128 in Windows 2000, no problem there, everything is working.
    I then installed Win98 as a second OS, I launch the drivers setup (from MSI CD) and I reboot as wanted by the setup. The PC reboots, the Win98 screen appears and suddenly...it reboots by itself, no message, no black screen.  I tried with other driver versions from NVidia and this time, I get a freezed black screen after the Win98 screen, I must press reset.  I had to enter the safe-mode to remove the drivers and get the usual 640x480 in 16 colors.
    What's going on ? I tried to change my bios parameters, disable the virus detection option, everything that could make problems ... but no success. I also tried a second Win98 installation, with DX 8.1 installed before the drivers but still the same problem.
    My system is AMD XP 2100 with Asus A7V333 motherboard - 300W for power, is the problem caused by some VIA chips ? I tried with their 4-1 drivers and stuff on the CD but it really doesn't want to work.
    Please help...

    after searching a bit on the forum, I found a thread where someone pointed out a problem caused by memory, greets to him.  I have 1 gb of ram and I added these lines to my system.ini :
    [vcache]
    MinFileCache=65536
    MaxFileCache=131072
    ChunkSize=2048
    NameCache=4096
    DirectoryCache=96
    ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1
    Values may change with more/less memory...And now it works perfectly in Win98.

  • FX5200 and Widescreen support

    Hello
    I have a MSI FX5200-TD128  AGP 8X graphics card
    On the Quick Installation Guide it has the following code: G52-V2NFX01-K01
    Please could you answer a question for me.
    Does this card support widescreen monitors (1680x1050) ?
    Thanks in advance
    seedy

    You can make it higher resolution and increase the font size so you can read the text.  In XP, go to Control panel and click Display(or right click the desktop and click properties), click the Settings tab and click the Advanced button.  Now, Change the DPI setting to what you need. There are 2 standard choices, 96 and 120, or you can change it to custom. You will need a reboot to see the results.
    I had to do this for my Mother in-law as she's legally blind and I bought here a 19in Widescreen and had it running at 1600x1050 on an ATI 7000--ended up changing the DPI to something along 150% or so(custom obviously).

  • Zen and Win98

    It's been a while since I worked on a Win98 machine. Unfortunately we have some PCs on our network for our consumers so they can assist them with resumes, career searches, etc. Can I do anything with Zen to manage them like I can with Zen on our XP boxes? I can't use dynamic local user on them, if I recall. I want to prevent changing anything such as network settings, background, etc.
    Suggestions? I know the obvious is to use XP, but these are old and XP would be real sloooow on them.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    What sort of workstation management do you do? Any lock down items?

  • Audigy 2 Value and Win98

    I don't understand.
    Why does the Audigy 2ZS work with Win98SE...
    System RAM: 64MB for Windows? 98SE and ME, 28MB for Windows? 2000 SP2 and XP
    (source:
    http://creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=204&product=495& nav=4 )
    But the Audigy 2 Value (emphasis on VALUE) card does not? ...
    Microsoft? Windows? XP, Windows? 2000 SP3 or Windows ME
    (source: http://creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=204&product=0653 &nav=4 )
    Is this really true? I thought for SURE that I read somewhere that the Value 2 card works with Win98SE. Bummmmmmer.
    Are there any drivers for Win98SE for the Audigy 2 Value card? I didn't find them after a quick online search.
    I'm waiting for a reply so that I can take the card back to the store, if necessary, and get my money back.

    seems like this card is definiti'vely unsupported in Win98. Only drivers for XP/2k/Me wherever I'm searching for on the web. Funny thing is that some resellers are writing it is supported under 98.

  • FX5200 and C&C Generals

    When I play C&C Generals in the beginning of every level there are some snapshots and then a movie begins. During the snapshots I am seeing a messy picture. There are a bunch of horizontal lines with some colours squares. I thought it was nothing but when I turn off the antialiazing the snapshots were ok. There were shown ok.
    Is this a similar problem like the one of the HL2? Does anybody had anything similar?
    C&C General isn't a directX 9.0 game but requires a directX 8.1.
    Thanks,
    PhanosP

    My FX5900 did that as well, but I haven't tested it with these new drivers yet (since I finished the game already).
    You can try them, they are at http://www.guru3d.com and whql passed.

  • JDeveloper and Win98--servlets work fine!

    i was unable to run servlets because
    JDeveloper couldn't find the NT command
    interpreter at C:/CMD.EXE . My solution
    was to just COPY COMMAND.COM CMD.EXE /R .
    Now i can run servlets from inside the
    IDE and access them by using the URL http://10.0.0.2:7070/servlets/servlet
    in my web browser. The IDE does not
    load the web browser automatically,
    but everything else seems to work fine.
    David

    be advised the certified platforms for jdeveloper are win nt 4 (sp5 is recommended) and win 2000.
    you may run into other issues by running jdeveloper on an unsupported o/s platform, such as, win 95, win 98, or win 'me'.
    if you call oracle support , they will tell you the above and to migrate to one of the supported o/s versions.

  • IPsec and Win98 Browsing.

    On a recent vpn implementation I was unable to browse the remote LAN via network neighborhood after connecting via Cisco vpn client using IPSec to a cisco 3015 cocentrator connected to a 4006 layer 3 switch, private interface of 4006 in vlan2 routed to NT4 servers in vlan1 on same 4006 switch through router blade in 4006 switch.

    You are correct once I had WINS and DNS configured correctly both on the PC and on the Concentrator I was able to browse correctly. Also the workgroup name in client for Microsoft networks had to be the same as the domain name. Yes I was able to ping by name, and I did logon to the domain.

    pretty strange huh? Can someone help me please??

    Well, nobody else seemed able to help me, but after going through hundreds of forum posts with similar problems I found the issue. I had put servlet.jar and jsp.jar in my jdk1.3.1\jre\lib\ext because someone else had offered that as a solution to servlets not compiling properly. Appartently this messes with the localstring bundles. So, if you are having this problem with an application, here is your solution. Don't put stuff in your ext directory. Peace

  • 875P Neo and Win98

    I am running 875P Neo with 2 SATA HDD with RAID 0 on the Intel controller. Win XP works just fine. I am trying to install Win 98 SE. Installation works just fine but there is no regular IAA or IAA RAID edition driver available for Win 9x. Win 98 SE works just fine but it is running is safe mode due to the lack of RAID driver. Is there anyway, I can overcome this problem.
    My system specs:
    INTEL PENTIUM 4 3.00C
    MSI I875P NEO
    2 X 120.0GB BARRACUDA SATA (RAID 0 240 GB)
    2 X 512MB PC3500 DDR434 KINGSTON HYPERX (DUAL CHANNEL 1GB)

    CREATIVE INSPIRE 6.1 6600 SPEAKER
    LOGITECH MX500
    19" SAMSUNG MONITOR
    BIOS 1.81B
    Thanks.

    You can use the Promise Controller. There is a driver for Windows 98 SE. I don't think you would see that noticable a difference as the drives now are nowhere near saturating that 150 bus. The raid on the Intel SATA only works in Windows XP.
    Just be sure to enable the Promise controller and install the driver in Windows XP before you switch.

  • Is there any difference between a WinNT VI and a Win98 VI?

    Hello!
    I have been writing a VI using Labview 6.1 on a WinNT machine. When I build it into an application and place it on a machine running the run-time engine and Win98, it doesn't work.
    It works fine on the NT machine, but not on the 98 machine. I've read where you should be able to transfer between the different Win versions, so I'm at a loss to explain why there would be any difference in the two.
    Thanks,
    Dave Neumann
    [email protected]

    Oops. I guess my question was awfully open-ended wasn't it?
    OK, here's the deal.
    The VI I created is simply trying to toggle outputs on a digital I/O card. Nothing complicated.
    On the WinNT machine, I can toggle the outputs. When I set them high, I see a high voltage from the card. It remains high until I switch it low, when the voltage drops. This is good.
    On the Win98 machine, I attempt to toggle the output high, and I hear the click of a relay, and a short current spike, but the voltage does not remain high. When I switch back to low I get no response back at all. The voltage remains low the entire time, with a small impulse jump when I try to set it high.
    We assume that the card is switching high, then immediately switching low ag
    ain, not holding the high state.
    The card on the Win98 machine, however, DOES work with the software included with the card, so we know it can toggle it's outputs.
    The Win98 and WinNT machines are nearly identical in their components, with the exception of their OS.
    The card I'm attempting to use is a Quatech PXB-32IO/PCI I/O card.
    Hope this clears it up a little!
    Thanks for the help,
    Dave Neumann

  • Cannot compile on win98 and win2k platforms

    I wrote a program:
    public class averfruit
    public static void main(String[] args)
    int orange=50;
    int apple=20;
    int average=0;
    average = (orange + apple) / 2;
    System.out.println("Average no. of fruit is : " + average);
    I tried the full path to compile it with jdk1.3 and j2sdk1.4.
    Both incurred the same errors:
    averfruit.java:11: illegal character: \0
    int apple = 20;
    100 errors
    I also tried to run it on win2k and win98 platforms, same errors.
    However, I can compile this program by JBuilder5.
    So, what's wrong with my code, the jdk or my OS?
    Thanks

    Thanks a lot for your instruction and it can be compiled now.
    Could you tell me how do you set the env't variables regarding the (1) path and (2) class path to the jdk1.4.../bin/ and jdk1.4.../lib/?

  • MS6712 Video and LAN problems with Windows 98SE

    Can anyone help please with a problem that’s been baffling me for weeks.I
     The computer in question is a TIME Powerstation with AMD 2600+ processor with 1024MB RAM, Nvidia Geforce FX5200 and Windows XP Home.
    Have set this computer to Dual Boot to Windows 98SE (Using Acronis OS Selector software).
    My problem is that after many attempts, have so far been unable to successfully load drivers for the Nvidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card or to get the LAN function to work in Windows 98.
    For the graphics card have tried a number of the more recent Nvidia Detonator Win98 drivers, all have either produced an error message (‘While initialising device IFSMGR: Windows Protection Error’) or a blank screen. Necessitating reverting back to the Standard VGA Driver with its maximum of 16 colours! The LAN function does not work at all in Windows 98SE, though it does in Windows XP – again suspect a driver problem.
    The motherboard of this computer is a MSI Microstar MS6712. Have tried the ‘VIA Chipset 4 in 1 Driver’ to no avail.  Are any more/different drivers required for Windows 98SE?
    Would appreciate any advice in what originally was envisaged as a simple task:  getting Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card and the motherboard’s built in LAN to run correctly on Windows 98.

    I have your board.
    1. Windows 98 won't recognize more then 512MB of RAM.
    2. I had problems with the FX 5200 Ultra on this board. Occasionally when I booted the system, I would get a black screen right after the post when the OS was about to load. I've been hearing a few people lately stating problems with the KT4V-L mobo and the FX 5200 Ultra. I promptly returned the card and got a Radeon 9700 Pro instead. I have never been more happy since I made that decision. I will never put another Nvidia card in this mobo again. I also had issues with the Geforce4 MX card I had. I've come to the conclusion that Nvidia sucks.
    3. Make sure your BIOS is updated to 1.9, and al lyour VIA drivers are updated. That may help you too.
    That's all I can offer.
