Fx5200 crashing xp

:confused2:i have installed the most recent drivers for my mother board, i got an athlon xp 1700+ with 512meg ram on a compaq mobo(wondering if its the problem). when i try to run msi update or live monitor the pc reboots, or when i play some games, not all crash. the agp is runing at 4x. i got the latest drivers for sound, network, video, mobo, and nforce. the pc also does the same thing with the onboard card (geforce 2 32meg). but it didnt use to do this when i got it. the card got its own irq.
please someone tell me you got this problem before and fixed it

    Straight to the point, then...
I built a system for a client approx 2 months ago and since that time, intermittently, the system will freeze, screen will go blank, then restart, Scandisk, "Error Report" window.  Configuration is as follows...
    P4 2.8 GHz CPU
    MSI 6728 NEO2-LS MBB
512 MB Kinston KVR400 DDR RAM
    MSI FX5200-TD128 Video w/ 53.03 Drivers
    Western Digital 80 GB HDD
    LiteOn 52x32x52 CD-RW
    SB Live! 5.1 Sound
Raidmax Scorpion Case with 420W Power Supply (other PSU specs - now posted later in thread)
    2x case fans
    Logitech Webcam
Windows XP Home SP1(upgraded from ME - FAT32)
Customer sent the error report and received a reply back that it was possibly video driver related, so last night we downloaded and installed the latest drivers from nVidia, but problem persists.  It doesn't seem to happen with any particular program or game... sometimes with Counterstrike, other times with Internet Explorer
My next thought is to try converting to NTFS.  My thinking is that maybe the problem is somehow related to the fact that it was a Windows ME upgrade and not a clean XP install.
Any help from the experts would be appreciated.
    Rick

    Computermechanic…….
We knew…. sooner or later that someone would try telling us that there
420 watt PSU was adequate, but in reality was inadequate. We hope this
explanation will help you to discover why your PSU is so underpowered
    and or inadequate!
You said your PSU is rated @ 420 watts @ 100%, correct!
Here are the specs you gave, correct!
    3.3v x 26A = 85.8 Watts @ 100%
    5v x 32A  = 160 Watts @ 100%
    12v x 13A = 156 Watts @ 100%
We come up with 401.8 Watts Total @100%, not 420 Watts !…
PSU are often very deceiving !   All PSU are Not created equal !
Even our really old Enermax EG365P-VE 350 Watt PSU has more
watts than your 420 watt PSU!
    Here are the specs:
    3.3 x 32A = 105.6 Watts @ 100%
    5v x 32A = 160 Watts @ 100%
    12v x peak 20A = 240 watts @ 100 %
    Total watts = 505 watts, correct!..Wrong!. 505 Watts @ 70% = 353.5 Watts,
    that’s why it’s called a 350 watt PSU!...
    Now will take your 401.8 Watts @ 70% = 281.26 Watts, You have a 282
watt PSU !   Remember again, PSU are not created equal!...
You said: “your power requirement is only 349 watts” looks like you’re a bit
weak on those precious watts, like 67 of them! Ya think!  Welcome to the
    real world !....
PSU… are Not designed to run efficiently @ 100% !…
PSU.. are designed to run efficiently @ 30% to70% with 50% being optimal!..
You said: “13A on the 12v rail gives 156 max watts, more than twice the required
75 needed for an FX card”. The FX card is not the only component that requires
12volts, some of the amps, and lets not forget, which equals those precious watts,
you also have to consider the HD, CDRW, SoundBlaster Live 5.1, 2 case fans,
floppy drive, MB, CPU fan, PSU fans, NB fan, etc, etc. All these components
could easily used over 100 watts, Maybe more! Maybe less ! Plus the 75 watt
FX card, to easily total more than 175 watts! Maybe more!  Maybe less !
So, if you take the 156 watts from the 12v rail and its running @ 30% you get
46.8 W, now if you take that 156 watts @ 70% you get 109 W, but now, taking
that 156 watts running @ the optimal 50% you only get 78Watts!..Understand!
Everyone here, at our Overclockers club, can’t even believe that your rig would
boot up and go into Windows, for one minute or two or three or four or five or
six or even seven!.. Without crashing, lockups or BSOD.
Most signs and symptoms of a faulty or inadequate PSU, are often or random
reboots, BSOD, lockups, poor performance, crashing, etc, etc.
If you’re a system builder, or even if your not, we suggest that you and your
techs at your supply co., read this post written by clarkkent57 on “Choosing
    The Right Power Supply” [https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=31880]
and hopefully you and your staff will understand, what we are trying to say,
your PSU is the issue here! “Its inadequate”!!!!!!

  • Windows crashes on MSI FX5200-TDR

    Hello all,
Yesterday I've bought a MSI FX5200-TDR 128RAM graphic card as a replacement of my old ATI Rage Fury PRO. After the card drivers was succesfully installed and the Windows 2000 system restarted then it started to halt randomly when I've tried to play some 3D games (for example Ghost Recon).
My first idea was to update to the latest NVidia drivers and so I did. Then switching the graphic resolution to 1280x1024x32bit halted the system immedeatelly. Each futher restart of the system leads to immedeate halt before the OS boot process to be finished. Thus I've ended up with an unbootable Windows 2000.
Then I thought either the DirectX 9.0 or the newest NVidia drivers are the problems. I've decided to reinstall Windows 2000 and here comes the funny part. The instalation proccess halts once the drivers are loaded e.g. the first part of the instalation proccess. I'm even unable to reach the disk partitioning page. Even worse Windows XP does exactly the same.
By "halt" in this message I mean that the system immedeatelly is shuting down e.g. no message, no error, no blue screen only a light speed shut down
The system I use has the following hardware:
Motherboard: ASUS A7M266-D -> a dual AMD Athlon MP proccesor board.
Processor: 2x AMD Athlon MP 1600+
    Memmory: 2x 512Mb DDR RAM 266Mhz CL 2.0
    Harddrive: 1x 40Gb Quantum, 1x 15Mb Maxtor
CD-Drives: 16 speed Plextor DVD, 52 speed Acer CDROM
90% of the time I use this system with Linux (Slackware 8.1) and FreeBSD. Actually I use the Windows OS only for 10-20 minutes relaxation with some 3D games. E.g I have 3 operating systems installed on this computer. The Windows 2000 and Slackware are on a same drive (the Quantum one), FreeBSD I have on the other one.
The most unusuall thing is that first I've installed the NVidia Linux and BSD drivers first and both OS's works without any problems. Even now (I'm wroting this message using Linux on the same system) I have no single halt with them.
For example on my Slackware Linux I have a stock Linux kernel 2.4.21 compiled with SMP and Large Memory support.
The XServer and Gnome work perfectly, the OpenGL based screen saver (as test example) and MPlayer as well.
I have no clue on the problem. It looks like an incompatibility between Windows on one side and the Asus mobo and MSI graphic on the other. I'm glad to see that the *nix'es are more stable again nevertheless I have nothing against Windows 2000.
In this situation I have no choice but to switch back to my old ATI card and keep relaxing with Counter Strike ) Or maybe better to get rid of wasting my time with playing games )) Of course I'll appreciate any idea on this nasty  problem maybe I'try to finish Ghost Recon before finally quiting with all these computer games )
Best regards to all surfing in this forum and sorry for my English

i suspect its a weak psu ,can you run any thing stresses the vga card under linux

  • MSI StarForce FX5200-VT128

Well, before starting, let me say that I only have a few hairs left on my head, I pulled them all out in the last 36 hours. I'm all out of options and you seem my last hope.
-- skip if you don't want details --
You see, I got this card, with a box that said "FX5200 VT-128". Box looked nice, it had an embeded tuner that wasn't ATI (I thew it out the window, it it responsible for me wearing a wigg), remote control (RF), and a rather new nVIDIA FX chipset that I heard good things about. Besides, I know nVIDIA drivers to be a one-click install and work flawlessly (at least they did so far)
So I got this card into my W2k SP4 box, DX8.1, installed the nVIDIA CD, personal cinema setup. Then the drivers from the MSI disk. Rebooted, and the option to install video capture drivers appeared. Did so and Intervideo WinDVR was displaying TV, stereo sound and all. Yey! Remote controlled TV.
Then the storm came. I got this CATV modem and the installation died at some point. New W2k, SP4, fresh install. Installed the software, drivers, got a BSOD. Mrrr. Went on and installed the web version of the drivers. No dice. Upgraded to DX9. Nope. And so on and so forth, I've been up 36 hours now and I'm turning a redish tint.
IT DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE!
    -- end of skip --
It worked before. Nothing changed. Same card, same TV, same software, same OS. Tried 3 versions of drivers, all work fine on the video card, but TV tuner does not work, as follows:
44.02 (on CD) - Remote control does not work (There is an FAQ on the site about this, says upgrade driver but link is broken, needs "&kind=10" at the end). WinDVR hangs, so do all other WDM tuners.
53.04 (the one in the FAQ) - remote control still dies, as opposed to the FAQ. WinDVR hangs
56.64 - bad - remote control dies(against what MSI says), windvr does not tune
I currently have v44.02 on video card with capture drivers v2.2, still does not tune. By this I mean that TV apps start, display window that is actually TV, except that it's some kind of start-of-band (distorted, mis-tuned TV station, probably beginning of VHF-L). If I try to autoscan, tune to something, change input, switch pal/secam/ntsc, NOTHING HAPPENS. It's as if the driver got read-only. WinDVR either crashes or scans at about 8 channels/second (used to do around one/s)
You might want to know what else do I want except complaining
Well, please, PLEASE, if anyone has Windows 2000 SP4 and this card (that lists as Personal Cinema FX 5200, as opposed to the box, that states FX5200-VT128), tell me what configuration you have.
Tell me what DX version, what video card driver version (Device manager>Display Adapters > Properties > Driver) and what Capture Drivers you own (check the same for nVIDIA WDM Tuner). And patches, order of install, anything I haven't tried.
I have GIGS of software to put in this installation and I can't start if I need a fresh install.
Also, as a bottom note, I read most of the forum, sticky posts, googled, nothing shows. I'm a system admin and a coder, in a word, a professional, so don't waste time on details if you don't feel like it. Just point me in the right direction.
    W2k Pro SP4
    DX9.0
    Personal Cinema FX5200 (VT128)
    512 RAM
Intel 2.8G HT (HT disabled) - It worked with HT enabled, too.

La mine merge, dar merge ca dracu! (ma refer la tuner, ca restul merge, mai putin telecomanda pentru ca mi-au vandut placa cu IR Receiver si Telecomanda RF, basca un un disc cu soft schimbat!!    )
NVARemote fails at software level, but the hardware works (so what?). It is a known bug that NVRemote does not work with 44.03 drivers. Well now it's known that it does not work with others either.

tunerul merge dar prinde de cate 2-3 ori acelasi post, dintre care numai o data acceptabil (dar asta s-ar putea sa fie si problema cablului),
Hint: visit Germany - cable, Romania is poorly configured (if you read help, only Romania and China use PAL_D, which is outrageous)

captura de pe camera video merge dar in timp ce inregistrez ceva "crapa" softul cu mesaj windows de eroare!.
Mine worked, it worked just fine... I swear it worked with 44.03 and capture. But now I have too many attempts at the river and MSI install disk no longer shows the option to install capture drivers.
By the way, installing WDM Tuner (NVTUNEP.SYS) reboots my NT5. HInts?

  • Dual monitor failure! (FX5200)

Well, 2 days ago I connected a second CRT monitor to my MSI NVidia FX5200 VTD128 card via the addapter given with the card.
It was working ok, though the refresh rates were noticeably slower on both monitors when both monitors were active.
Then I started getting little flickers, even though there was nothing going on, which was a little strange...but I figured it was ok.
So I was working with powerpoint, Macromedia Flash MX, Windows Media Player, etc. and I started having some problems, especially with Powerpoint. I'll use powerpoint to explain what happened: While previewing my presentation the 2nd (older) monitor was where the presentation was being displayed. It usually didn't take long for the screen to flicker a bit, and change the vertical and horizontal size of the display, to something that was just not right. I could reset it back to the orizinal resolution or v/h sync by going into settings and changing the resolution.
Well, then it happened again, but this time the entire image was lost! Now I can not get an image to that monitor while in windows...works during startup though. Please help.

Sorry,  I really had to leave earlier.
I got the two monitors to work together again, but this time there were some limitations, and it eventually led to the same end as before.
As far as I can tell it is a windows problem or a video card problem, not a power supply or motherboard issue. I should have said that earlier. I believe it to be a video card problem, which is leading to a windows problem.
So as I said I have the FX5200 VTD128 card, running on a 4x AGP slot with NVidia drivers (not MSI drivers as these do not work on my system). My case temperature is fairly constant at approx. 81 F, and I don't know the temp of the video card.
The first time I had a problem I was using the DualView option, where both monitors are separate pretty much. After a few hours of working nicely the monitor started having so problems...it would blink an come back with a picture that was very narrow and extremely tall (both more than what could be fixed with the monitor controls). Also the colour was dull and dark. Eventually after fixing this problem a few times by changing the resolution to reset the monitor, the computer crashed. When I restarted windows the second monitor remained black while in windows (though I still see all the start up stuff on it).
So today since I couldn't get the Dual View option to work I used the option that spreads the image over both monitors. Exact same thing happened a few hours after use.
Since I had restarted my computer over this period of time, I am pretty sure it is not a memory thing. I'm guessing it is a heat thing. I have a feeling the fan on the video card is not working like it is supposed to without the MSI drivers. If this is the case, MSI should be responsible for informing buyers about this problem.
Since I was using different programs both times, I'm pretty sure it is not related to what programs were running. And since the monitor was working no problem earlier, I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware in my computer, though I tried to provide some info earlier...though I do believe there was enough info there for a somewhat educated guess as to what my problem could have been.
I have a feeling this will have to go to MSI support to get any type of answer, but hopefully someone else has a good idea as to what it is and what can be done about it.
    Thanks
    PS.
Richard, I believe the 4 wheels would be the equivelent of me saying I had a video card....the h/v sync thing would be like saying the car is making a specific noise. Welcome to the life of a mechanic. I appreciate help, but please refrain from the sarcasm.

  • Premiere crashes when exceeding ~1.2GB memory usage

This is extremely annoying. I have found Premiere to crash when it hits around 1.2GB to 1.5GB of memory usage on medialayer.dll or something. I was able to crash Premiere in just a matter of seconds after launching it and opening my project. I work quickly, so this happens frequently.
Q9450 Yorkfield Quadcore (12MB Cache), clocked at 3.2GHz
    4GB of 1200 RAM
All my scratch disks are set to my second partition, which has around or at least 200GB of free space. My page file is set to about 4GB. My machine is defragmented daily by Diskeeper Pro 2008.
I am dealing with 26 video files and have frame thumbnails displaying in the timeline thing (it makes everything all the more easier for what I am specifically doing) and adds up to around a total of 9 to 10 hours of video and audio. I'm chopping out the intro, credits, and midtro from each video, which is basically what I am doing.
However, I am currently downloading the latest update (which is like 50.3MB) that might possibly fix this issue. At least I hope it does. :( This crash/memory leak is going to drive me insane if it cannot be fixed.
EDIT :: I have observed that every time I save, the memory usage goes up by 200KB to 500KB. For each frame thumbnail that Premiere loads, the memory usage goes up by a whopping 2MB+. This will and does quickly add up for the work I'm doing. Photoshop never unloads any of this memory!
EDIT2 :: By the way, the frame thumbnails are 88x65 sized thumbnails.
EDIT3 :: Even with the latest version and update, Premiere Pro CS3 still crashes for the same reason. I haven't seen the memory usage at 1GB though.
EDIT4 :: Latest updates help though, but does not fix the problem. When I minimize Premiere, usage is 17 MB. When I bring it back up, usage is 32MB. I can keep resetting the usage to 17/32MB simply by just minimizing Premiere and bringing it back up again (and the memory usage reset is about instant). So far I've reset it numerous times when reaching levels of around 600MB to 800MB of memory usage and haven't crashed in my current session due to the memory leak yet.
This seems to be only a temporary solution.
    http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/premiere-memoryleak-workspace.gif
That is my current workspace. I literally keep task manager open with Premiere highlighted like that so that I can watch the memory usage levels (to know when to 'reset' the memory usage) as I work. Right now all I'm doing is zooming in and out, and splitting videos in two (or multiple pieces).

    Q9450 Yorkfield (12MB Cache) @ 3.2GHz
    2GB G.Skill PC2-6400 (400MHz) x2 (4GB total, running with 3.5GB due to 32-bit limitations)
NVIDIA FX5200 (temporary, waiting for ATI HD4850 to come back from RMA)
    500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 SATA-II w/ SATA-II enabled
I have my 500GB harddrive partitioned into two partitions: 40GB (C) and 425GB (D). C is for Windows XP (includes drivers, codecs, and things that relate heavily to the core of Windows; stuff that isn't important enough to backup). D is for everything else, which includes games, utilities/tools, media (images, video, music), developer material, etc.
On D, you would find the following logical layout of folders:
Developer, Games, Media, Network, Utilities, Mozilla Firefox, Temp.
Temp is so that I can (in an organized fashion) set the temporary locations and scratch disks for programs here. All scratch disks are set to D:\Temp\Premiere, and currently reports 121.9GB of free space. I can easily free up 114GB to 240GB of material on D though (which I plan to do sometime anyway).
What information do you want to know? Be specific, I'm not stupid and illiterate like most people.
EDIT :: I didn't mention this in my post, but I did take the precautions to search through the Troubleshooting database for Premiere, and I did read through the optimizations for Windows XP article (which I already had the same suggestions applied to my computer since the dawn of time -- so that wasn't really useful).
EDIT2 :: I checked the troubleshooting link and none of those really apply. (Do you even know what a memory leak is?)

  • FX5200 causing system instability? (Fixed with new PSU)

The background: I've been battling this one for three weeks now.  I've had a new system for a couple of months, prebuild barebones with specs noted in signature. About 3 weeks ago I started having random crashes, lockups, bluescreens with win98Se. This was after installing an ATI tv tuner card, although the system was stable for a week after that.  I also started playing 3d games more, and hadn't done this before - I mention this because it may have been heat related and 3d causes the temp to rise - true?.  After I started having random crashes, I tried updating the video drivers to MSI 52.16, thinking that may help.  The install seemed to go ok, although when trying to sync without powerstrip (can go to 60Hz with Nvidia utility), that didn't work.  Shortly after that, the system really started locking up, with BSOD's and crashes and became so unstable I couldn't even bring up Windows (kept getting protection error).
Other factors: The MSI FX5200 card is the cheaper version with the heatsink, not the fan.  I also have 2 hard drives hooked in, one of which was having issues.  I unplugged that once the trouble started.  The system is also probably too close to a heat vent, which may have contributed to the issue.
Anyway, the troubleshooting: I took out all non-essential cards and got down to a bare-bones system.  Reinstalled the OS after reformatting the hard drive - still flaky. Tried WinME - still flaky. Swapped out memory - still flaky.  Put in different video card (older MSI MX440), and system is now stable.
My question: Is my FX5200 video card fried for sure?  I don't want to try it in a different system, in case it starts flaking out there, causing damage and PITA recovery on that system.  Or could the video card be OK, and I just somehow weakened the PSU, causing it to not be able to handle even a barebones system?
Please advise.  Mercy please, I'm a newbie at hardware...

I picked up a new power supply, but it may not be big enough - specs are pretty similar to current one.  It's an Antec SmartPower 400W: +5v@38A, +3.3v@28A, +12v@18A. 5&3.3v combined=240W, plus 12v=380W. I can sure try it, but if you think I should get one with more power, I'd rather look into getting the Antec 430 or equivalent instead.  Let me know.  Ironically, this was the only part of the system I didn't research fully before the build.  I now see the error of my ways...
I'm leaning away from the video card as the problem, as things have started flaking out again, even though I still have in the MSI Gf2 440 card along with the barebones config.  (So, it's happened with 2 different cards.)  I fired up the system last night, and Windows didn't even startup completely before it locked up.  I wonder, could this be entirely heat related?  It was a cold night and the heat was blasting and the front of the case is unfortunately only 1 foot away.  I am waiting for extension cords for vga, coming this Friday, so I can move the unit across the room.
Regarding your driver question, I haven't even loaded the vga drivers, just the mobo ones.  So, it's running 16 color @ 640x480.
I did look at the heatsink on the 5200 card as you suggested.  It doesn't look great in terms of contact - looks like it's separated from the board more than what I remember when I first installed it.  I haven't taken it off to look closer, and I'm (obviously) no expert on this and unsure what to look for.  Since it's less likely that it's the video card, and I'm not really sure what I'm doing anyway, I'll probably hold off on this path until after PSU swapout/testing.
I'm really learning a lot, and I thank you very much for your time!

  • GeForce FX5200 - big problem

Sorry for my English, it's not my native language.
    1. I can't even start my OS. It's the graphic card problem for sure, because when I'm changing it for any other card it works fine. Ok, so when my OS (XP) is loading, my monitor just turns off and the led is blinking. All what can I do is reset or turn of the computer. There was no fan on the vga when I bought it (2 years ago). It was working excellent. And now I can't even run my OS.
Does anyone of you know what's the problem ?
    2. Second problem - tvout. When I connect my tv, screen on tv is weird, I don't know how to describe it   but it looks like the colours are brightened. I can't do anything with it, I was trying some setup but nothing works. It was working good too, but it screwed up much more sooner then my first problem.  :D

you can try, use fail safe mode, pressing F8 when booting, then set to start in failsafe mode with vga, then if you can get in to windows then go to video properties and change the refresh frecuency to 60hz in any resolution and restart, if do not work do it again in fail safe mode (no vga mode) if the last thing you see is the windows logo with the loading bar then the problem is monitor out of refresh values, that turn of the monitor, another thing may be if you conect a tv like a monitor without your pc monitor, sometimes the main monitor is set to tv so when start windows the pc monitor turn off, if you can see something in your tv then you must change to "clone view" the multidisplay setting
ok mi english is not good too so i hope to help you in some way

I was with similar problem (i have a FX5200 / NV34), and all time than mesa get update stop my flash and my mplayer like i have reported here:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36004
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=166269
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36712
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64582
The problem is, mesa and/or nouveau-dri don´t detect my videocard correctly and/or not consider NV34 can´t handle vdpau driver, and try force use vdpau on it. It is a bug in mesa or nouveau-dri i think.
This problem occur only using xf86-video-nouveau, because nvidia proprietary detect videocard vdpau correctly (mesa/nouveau don´t).
So, my solution was modify mesa PKGBUILD removing vdpau from the package and recompiling it.
In my modification, using abs i compile with makepkg -sr, then i install mesa-9.2.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz and nouveau-dri-9.2.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz.
Optionally you can install mesa-libgl-9.2.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz too. I am. Because all is compiled in same place.
Actually i don´t have more problems. My problem is solved!
Sorry for my bad english, i don´t speak english very well.

  • After download, box which says 'you have chosen to open' 'greys out' after browse button is selected and whole page is frozen/crashed. PC restart neccesary.

    Hi Firefox
After I have finished downloading a file the Mozilla Download page appears.
I right click the download to open it and the 'You Have Chosen To Open' box appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen with the 'radio button' already selected to 'Open with..
All this so far is perfectly normal.
However if I click on the 'Browse' button to make a choice then the title at the top of the box, the closing 'cross' and the 'OK' button have all faded to grey and are inoperable.
Furthermore the whole Firefox page is frozen/crashed and can't be closed.
I have no further options than to restart the PC.
I have tried various suggestions I have found on your forums including deleting cookies, turning off the hardware accelerator, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 12.
I have looked at your 'Troubleshooting Information' and it does show a graphics driver problem. However my driver is the lastest nVidia driver for my GeForce FX5200 card and it has worked fine with firefox 12.
WebGL RendererBlocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 257.21 or newer.
GPU Accelerated Windows0. Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 257.21 or newer.
Here is the specification of my computer:
    MSI K8N Neo motherboard (N1996 MS-7030 VER:1),
an AMD Athlon (tm) 64 processor 3200+ (Socket 754)
    3GB of RAM.
It has at present a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card.
The system is running Windows XP Professional 32bit with SP3 and all drivers are up to date.
I have used Firefox for many years and would not use anyone else browser ever!
I have not had a problem until now. I do hope you can help me.
    Kind Regards
    Chris

Dear mha007 Your brilliant! Now I have the correct terms it was the 'Opening' box that was freezing and it was the 'Choose Helper Application' that couldn't be accessed.
However I followed the instructions which I have cut n' pasted below and I am sure it was the 'renaming' of the rdf file that put things right.
Thank you very much I am very grateful. Kindest Regards Chris

  • ITunes crash on "lock workstation"

    Hi.
I have a reproducible bug in iTunes, installed on a XP Pro box on a Windows domain at work, it crashes every time I lock my workstation regardless of what I do to it. Problem is that policy is set so that the workstation locks automatically after 5 mins of inactivity. This is getting real annoying now...
Has anyone come across this problem before or can offer any advice for a fix? I'm happy to provide huge quantities of debug if necessary...
    Cheers,
    Aled.

I am having the same issue since getting iTunes 7 .. ( and now iTunes 7.0.1.8 ) I am running:
    Dual flat screens:
    19" Wide Screen Viewsonic VA1912WB (1440 x 900) <Hooked Up Digital>
    Dell 1704FPV (1280 x 1024) <Hooked Up Analog>
Both hooked to the same Nvidia Geforce FX5200 Running Window XP Pro
All Display Drivers and Video Card Drivers Updated...
I had not had this problem until I got iTunes 7 ... Running the same set-up as always... and it seems to happen more often when my machine is locked or when iTunes is idle... I have not had it happen while listening to music however... and it seems to be a Quick Time error... although like previous posters, I cannot see the error, nothing happens when I click on the "unsupported Display" error on my task bar...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance...

  • My pc crash

    Hello.
Im using windows xp and iv got this problems with blue screens.
i thought at first that is my memory chips,  but i replaced them both and still got the problem. I replaced my motherboard (MSI NEO2 865PE) too and still got the problem. at least, I thought maybe its my vga card (fx5200 innovision) soo I upgraded it to FX5700 VTD128 of MSI. And still Got the blue screens.
My technishens of the store which i got the pc from , tried hard to solve it and faild.
every time the blue screen apears my cpu bios values resets. its always on "turbo" mode and when its resets its going down on value "slow".
I have two chipes of 256DDR-400mhz which working Dual at 512MB 800mhz.
I noticed a strange thing - when its working dual my pc crashes , and when I take the memory chipes and put them both on the motherboard not dual (both of them on two-near slots which is not dual) the pc works without crashing.
soo , I ask from You help - to solve the strange thing : why my pc crash when its working dual? do you think its maybe the CPU or the Power supply?
    thanks , Roy Levy.

  • Problem with threads, program always crash

new to threads, may be doing something COMPLETELY wrong. When I run the program I get a couple of NullPointerExceptions in Thread-0 and Thread-1. I'm confused because it screws up when I call size() for arrayList, and in the API size doesn't throw anything.

    *int list = 0;*
*while((list = record.size)<1) was screwing things up because of the assignment*record is ArrayList of strings. when better to use Vector instead of ArrayList? i notice no differnce and i use threads
initially I thought record.size was being evaluated and before could be assigned to list, time slice ran out. this could not be case because I use ReentrantLock (list) to lock it.
