FX5200 personal cinema - DVD soft problem

I have a configuration with a MSI K8TNeo fis2r mainboard with a MSI FX5200 personal cinema graphic cart. I have windows xp home installation  + all windows updates, with all the drivers installed from the cd from MSI, installed the personal cinema software.
The problem is when i play a DVD with mediaplayer or NVDVD after a while the DVD freeze and i have a black screen, then i have to stop the player in the Windows task manager.

I have installed personal cinema version 2.25,
Is there a upgrade of patch for this problem,

  • Problem with FX5200 Personal Cinema and DirectX 9 - serial reboots

I'm hoping someone here can help, because I'm pretty much at the end of my rope here.  Here are my system specs:
    HARDWARE
    ========
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    RAM: 2x 512MB Infineon PC3200 DDR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
Video: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema 128MB
    HDD: Maxtor 160GB
    CDROM: MSI DVD/CDRW Combo
    SOFTWARE
    ========
    Windows XP Home SP1
    All available Windows Updates
    Norton SystemWorks 2003
    MSI bundled drivers and software
      MSIDVD
      MSI Personal Cinema
      MSI Live Update 3
The problem is, I get serial reboots (computer boots to desktop, then reboots within a few seconds) unless I start in safe mode, or use MSConfig to disable all startup items.  Enabling even a single startup item, no matter what it is (NVCPL, any of the Norton tasks, etc) results in serial reboots.
    Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
    =======================
Replace RAM - (single 512 or 2x512) no effect
Replace motherboard (same model) - no effect
Replace video card (same model) - no effect
Replace CPU (same model) - no effect
Replace power supply (w/ 450W) - no effect
Update all drivers, MBD BIOS, VGA BIOS, DVD/CDRW BIOS w/ Live Update 3 - no effect
Install Windows XP but don't install any Windows Updates - computer functions normally
Install DirectX 9.0b - serial reboots
Roll back to DirectX 8.1 - computer functions normally
Install DirectX 9.0a - serial reboots
Replace video card (GeForce MX440) - computer functions normally
Throughout this whole process, Windows XP was reinstalled clean about five times - just to be sure the issue wasn't caused by file corruption in the install.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Do I have to go with a different video card?  Or is there something obvious I've missed?
    -Cameron

Try to put another video card on the computer.
Try the video card on another machine.
Try the lastest driver (there will be a new driver from http://www.nvidia.com tomorrow or may be a few days later).
    Try the lastest motherboard bios.
    Install the monitor driver.
    Install WinXP SP1

  • Personal Cinema 5200 Sound Problem/DVD Question

    Hi,
    I'm running
    P4 3GHz Prescott
    1Gb RAM
Asus P4P800E-Deluxe with onboard realtek 5.1ch sound setup
    MSI 5200 Personal Cinema 128
    Two problems:
Firstly, I can get my normal 4 TV channels for the area I live in, however I only have sound on 3 of these channels. The other one has sound intermittently come on and off, I've tried re-tuning but that doesn't seem to make any difference (it seems strange that it's the channel with the best reception!!!)
Secondly, my motherboard came bundled with WinDVD 5, which unlike the Personal Cinema-bundled dvd player supports 5.1 sound...is there any way of getting the NVDVD/remote to open WinDVD instead of the bundled player?  When I try to change the player that the remote opens, it can only find its bundled player...do I have to re-install the Personal Cinema software everytime I install a new media program so that it can find it?
    Regards,
    Nic

One more thing if the movie is on Full Screen in Cinema Display and the MacBook screen is down and I lift the movie switches to the MacBook as it should d and I get this message:
The selected movie won't play on one of your connected display
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Try moving the iTunes window to a different display. Make sure the entire window is on the supported display.
The same thing happens if it was palying in an iTunes Window or a Separate window.
Is this normal or another symptom of the problem with the sound and what may be causeing it?
    Thanks,
    David-Paul

  • Personal Cinema TV5200-VTDF128 problem - no channels

I'm having a problem setting up the TV Tuner on two FX5200 Personal Cinema cards.  System specs are similar:
    System 1:
    =======
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
    RAM: Infineon 512MB PC3200 DDR
    HDD: 80GB Maxtor
    CDRW: MSI 52x32x52 CDRW
    FDD: Panasonic
Vid: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema (TV5200-VTDF128)
    System 2:
    =======
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
    RAM: 2x Infineon 512MB PC3200 DDR
    HDD: 120GB Maxtor
    CDRW: MSI 52x32x52 CDRW
    FDD: Panasonic
Vid: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema (TV5200-VTDF128)
All drivers have been updated to most recent versions from the MSI or NVIDIA sites, as appropriate.  BIOS for motherboards and video cards have been flashed to most recent versions.
    Problem:
    ======
When I start Media Center Deluxe II, I get no video (though I can hear audio).  If I do a channel scan, it slowly cycles through each channel number.  During this process, the screen stays black.  Afterwards, if I try to change channels, it tells me to do a scan first.
When I start MSIPVS, I get video and audio.  When I change channels, it shows the new channel number, but continues to show the original channel.  And when I do an AutoScan, it quickly rips through the whole channel list and leaves all channels marked invalid.  Changing the video input standard (NTSC_M, NTSC_M_J etc) has no effect.  Interestingly enough, the one channel it shows is not always the same.  At first it was showing channel 2, then it was showing 21.
I have tried various versions of the WDM drivers, both from MSI and NVIDIA.  I have tried the unified multimedia drivers from both sites, as well as the individual drivers (separate WDM and VGA).  I am still getting the same problem on both systems.  All Windows Updates have been done.  The one thing I haven't been able to update is MSIPVS itself, as I have not been able to find a download link for it.
If anyone has any ideas (or knows where I can download a newer version of MSIPVS) I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance
    -Cameron

I`m no expert on this but I`ve had similar problems with my FX5200-128 Personal Cinema card which I have managed to solve. These have included TV picture without sound, unreliable TV capture and channel selection problems. It seems that to get good capture you must start off with a strong aerial signal for the card to work best. This is especially true if you experience poor channel lock.
If you have TV picture without sound then IMO this points to some conflict/incompatibility with video and audio on the PC. I started with simple onboard audio and only managed to get TV sound after adding a cheap SoundBlaster PCI card (make sure the onboard audio device is turned off in BIOS afterwards to avoid problems).
I also met a curious problem with TV Standard selection. I live in Greece and the TV Standard used here is PAL-B. The FX5200 setup insisted that this should be SECAM. This caused a lot of grief and the only way I`m able to get good capture is if I use nearby Turkey - which the settings happily accept as PAL-B. This is covered briefly in the User notes somewhere. So, depending where you are, you may have to log to some neighbouring country to achieve optimum capture.
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Personal Cinema White Box problem but NOT Macrovision

About 3 times per hour a white box appears in captured video for 5 seconds. It is full width and half height placed centrally in the frame.
Internet research indcates it might be a driver/Macrovision problem but WDM drivers V108 do not fix it and it appears randomly on non-Macrovision TV input and in all my video capture programs.
I've tried clean installs of XP Home/Professional/SP1/SP2 VGA drivers from 4533 to 6681 and WDM drivers from 108 to 223 and I've not been able to fix it. It happens in all capture programs including WinDVR V1 & 3, Ulead DVD Movie Factory.
I can't produce the box "at will" but worst offenders are TV cable box on a digital channel and VCR (home movies) both on the composite input.
I don't believe it is directly macrovision as I CAN capture a DVD (played back through the composite video in) which won't copy onto a VCR.
The symptoms seem so like the reported macrovision problems and it's driving me up the wall that WDM V108 does NOT fix the problem.
Does anybody else have the white box with the WDM108 drivers?
    Thanks
    Card Bios: 4.34.20.19.01

    MikeF,
I haven't tried WDM 1.08 because of the code 10 error.
I didn't know if you were aware of this but this same package is marketed by MSI, EVGA and PNY (there may be others as well). My post on the NVidia board has been ignored for days now. I'm in dialogue with a guy from PNY but he has no constructive ideas on how to solve the problem. People have posted our exact problem on the EVGA board as well. There have been no responses. PNY doesn't even have a forum.
The Nvidia Forceware multimedia program that I have to schedule and capture with is beta at best. Way too many bugs and absolutely no update or support in sight.  On occasion I build PC's for friends and family and I'm going to include the NVidia 5700 as a graphics card on the next one I build. I'll make no mention of it's other alleged capilbilities. It is an OK graphics card.
I don't fault MSI at all in this, they have to trust that the products coming from NVidia do indeed work as advertised. In this case it doesn't. There are just too many obstacles to overcome at this pace, so I decided to move on to a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR for capturing. My Dell GX270 has onboard video that will be fine for this PC's purpose which is video work only.
The one thing that I've learned is to stay away from NVidia products, there are other vendors who make products that have been fully tested and hopefully supported well.  I don't feel much like being part of NVidia's beta program any longer.
To Glenn: Thank you sir for your responses. Of the various avenues that I've pursued you were the ONLY one who provided good suggestions and feedback. Even though it didn't work out (yet) thanks for trying.
I'll be checking back in from time to time to see when and if this gets resolved.

  • Personal cinema video-in problem

    Hi,
When I capture video from my camcorder or video there are 2 lines visible. On the left I have a small green line, on the bottom it is a small crumbled line. I reinstalled a few times, updated all MSI and Nvidea drivers, but no luck.
The shop where I bought my computer says it is normal with this card. Is this the case or can people here capture without a problem?
Does anyone know a solution for this problem?
    Please help!

  • Please help on FX5200 personal Cinema!

Please can anyone help me installing this Video Card.
In fact the tuner is the one giving me problems
First question: Is there another way to tune the chanels than "autoscan". This method gave me 2 or 3 times the same chanel (only one of them approx. acceptable).
Second question: Why I can't get sound ?
Third question: When capturing the program is very unstable. It closes (very often) with the wellknown Windows message!!
Fourth question: There is no way to change channels without remote?! It doesn't seem to work from the keyboard!!
As you can see I have a lot of questions.... and I wonder if someone can help me with some answers.
At first glance I think that buying the card in question it was the worse 100$ ever spent!!
    Please HELP!!
    Alex

For channel u need to go to option for manual tuning section TV /option/
then back to autosearch and if something is rong nee to change freq normaly is valua of 128 need to change to uper or low by miving of reper or writing number on box

i want to load windvr without loading nvdvd. i cant seem to find the serial number for it. it will load automaticly if i install with other software, but if i try to just installing windvr it asks for a serial number. is it buried in some file somewhere?
           thanks

sorry i didn't get back sooner but we had a special job going at work this weekend.(put in two 12 hr days) yes i could install all software and have done that before, but i have reinstalled the operating system and want to try and keep my pvr to a bare minimum on programs. plus the cd with windvr on it also installs the display driver and wdm drivers and i'm not using the version of either that are on the cd, so i don't want to do an auto install. any other ideas.
can anyone download msi's version of windvr3(msipvr i think) or do you need a particular product from msi to qualify for it.

If there is an audio line into the line in and line in is really line in and it isn't muted you should hear it regardless of mediac center running or not.
If you don't hear anything try hooking up a minidisc or CD player or any other sound source to the line in and see if you can hear it.

  • MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 TV-OUT problem (overscan?)

    Hello!
I have a very annoying problem with my MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 graphics adapter / tv-card combo. I use it as a HTPC, record tv, play music and watch dvd and digital video. I use bsplayer to view digital video and it works fine.
But when I try to watch dvd's in full screen with my 16:9 32" Sony, I think the card overscans the image and big partitions from upper & lower screen are not displayed. This is especially annoyting, because I use subtitles. The lower line of the subtitles is 2/3 hidden when I view dvd in full screen on the tv, and I believe this is because the overscan "zooms" the view over-screen.
As said this problem does not exists with digital video (mpeg, avi or what ever), only with dvd-disks. I have tried three different dvd-player softwares, so the problem is not with the software. I have tried WinDVD, PowerDVD etc. The problems persists.
I can negate the problem by useing two displays, entering the screen settings in TFT desktop and using the - button to zoom the tv image into smaller - but you can imaginate this is very annoying. Even when I save the setting, it resets when I start viewing a new dvd and I have to zoom it again to fit into the viewable area of the television. When I am using the TV as single display I cannot even do this - because the "overscan" problem happens only when playing full-screen dvd (not on desktop or any other full-screen image).

MSI finally replied to my questions regarding this problem. Without answering the question directly here is what they have to say:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
There is no need to install nvidia standard VGA driver (eg . 56.64 or 53.03) . Therefore, please try to reinstall OS, for Personal Cinema FX5200-VT128 driver, please refer to http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/dr...ail.php?UID=459 for driver and patch and capture driver.
Thank you for supporting MSI product. Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further issues or inquiries.
    Best regards,
    MSI Technical Support
I'd already reinstalled my OS (WinXP Home sp1) and then reintalled Personal Cinema v2.25 from the MSI disc and the display driver from the second disc I got with the card, v45.33. This seems to have solved the problem for me. Not so far removed from what MSI are suggesting, so it seems that whichever way you go, you must reinstall your OS. That ain't so bad. It's reinstalling everything else which takes the time.
    Good luck to you all.

  • Sound channel problem with Personal Cinema FX500

    WinXP SP1
    MBoard : ASUS P4S533
     (CMI8738 on-board Audio)
    MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 MS-8918
The problem is that in the setup of WinDVD, the only audio source i can choose in WAVE,
but the sound output of the video tuner is on Line-In, of course.
Because of this problem, the remote affects the volume of WAVE, and has no effect on the Line-In channel. And, of course, when recording, the sound on the wave channel is recorded,
    so, no sound !
Any one encountered this problem ? I installed the drivers on the original CD.

After nearly 3 months, I came up with the answer myself:
I installed a new driver (639) for the CMI8738 on-board sound and now the "Line In" option appears in the WinDVR setup.
