  • MSI FX5600 TD256 Problems

Hi all. This is my first time on these boards and must say the info i have got from it is outstanding. Keep it up.
    I need some help.... I use an MSI KT4 Ultra via KT400 chipset based M/B with an AMD XP2600+. 1024MB 2700 ram. MSI FX5600 TD256mb G/C. 120gb H/D. Thermaltake power supply 480w. Water cooled.
My problem is that the PC starts up and runs ok for a while but all of a sudden the monitor goes blank. The CPU fan still runs but all else fails. ie, case fans, CD drives, etc.
The only way i can get it to work again is by removing the G/C and reinserting again. It makes no difference if i just turn off all power to the PC. This again works fine for a while and then it happens again?
Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem or what it could be. I have seen others mention the power supplies but mine is not the cheap type and surely 480w is ample?
I am sorry if something here is not listed. Let me know if any other info is required and i will post.
I forgot to say. I have put in an old G2 G/c from my old system for now and have not had a problem so i can assume it is something to do with the G/C?
I do not know if i need new drivers or BIOS? I can never get into the MSI live update for this. Does anyone know how to get them and especially for the BIOS, how do you instal them (in detail, I do not want to dammage anything).
    Thanks in advance
    MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR (MS6590). MSI FX5600 TD256 256mb. AMD XP2600+. 1024mb 2700 ram, (2x 512). 120gb maxor h/d. Thermaltake Xaser11 case + 480w p/s. Water cooled. Win XP pro

Hi there. Since you are talking about flashing BIOS's, may I ask a question? (OK, another one.  )
I was looking through some of my old downloads on my hard drive and in my MSI folder, I came across an upgraded BIOS for my MSI Ti4200-VTD64 (MS-8870). The file is GF4Ti4200_4.25.00.37_250_500.rom, but I did not have an installer for it. I searched the MSI web site, but I didn't even see this file. I wouldn't have put it in that folder unless it came from MSI, so my question is, does anyone know how to install it, or where I can get an installer for it?
    Thanks
(...and yes I'm familiar with the possible perils of flashing  )

  • FX5600-td256 Problem

    Right here goes..
Basically, after windows is installed. It uses its own driver to operate the card etc. I can watch DVD's run screen savers and even play the cheesy games u get with XP.
However, when the driver that is shipped with the card is installed, or I install the latest drivers from the nVidia download section, whenever I goto to play a dvd, do some graphic work etc, the system locks up, either restarts or just runs like sh**e.
I have come to the conclusion the card is knackered,,, or there is some incompatibilty with the board i am using.
I have installed all the latest via drivers, installed all latest graphics card drivers and even updated my bios.
I have the named graphics card and a DFI Lanparty KT400a Mobo
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Hi,
I wouldn't even buy the FX5600, because as you can read nside this formum, there are lots of big problems with this card and the drivers.
I installed the card first in an win XP system, but could not get any newer game to run (e.g. age of mythology, morrowind, rise of nations, freelancer....)
Afterwards after my cpu died I instaled the card in an windows 2000 server system, and I still have exactly the same problem. 1 minute after starting the game the system crashes and starts write a memory dump.
Tried miniport driver update, tried driver update, tried driver cleaner, nothing helped so far.
My advice you should buy a graphic card that is known to have a working properly driver, e.g. as OpT1kN3rv told the Ti4800

  • FX5600 TD256 - Crash

    Hi all.
I have asked previously about this problem, thought i had solved but it has come back again
I use an MSI KT4 Ultra (MS6590) and have updated all drives, Via chipsets and Bios to V1.4.  I also (try to) use the MSI FX5600 TD256.
The problem is that at different times the screen goes blank and says 'no power output'.  The PC is still running but the CD drives and some but not all fans stop running.
I thought it may be the PSU?  I use a Thermaltake Silent purepower 480w but from a previous post i had confirmed the PSU was o.k.
I now have an old Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Pro graphics card installed and this works perfectly fine. I can no longer instal the FX5600 as it will not boot.
I have read in other forums about the IRQ's & Ram issues.  Can someone advise me fully on how to check the IRQ's and change them if needed.
The ram i use is Excaliber PC2700 333mhz 2x512 cards.  How do i know if it is this causing problem.
I hope somebody can help? I can not believe an MSI motherboard causes conflicts with an MSI graphics card even when it states they are compatible.
There may just be an obvious solution but from the forums i have read so far i can not see one.
    HELP ME PLEASE

Which are the Fans that are not running?
Check all the power connectors again.
Look around the mobo and VGA card for bad caps.

  • FX5600-TD256 Artifacts

I'm getting some crazy artifact problems while playing games.
At some points part of the screen whacks out and starts flashing. It's mainly in the uper-right half. Imagine a line going from the top left directly to the bottom right, spliting the screen in two.
Also in all of the game HUD's there are weird shaped small blotches.

Has this always happened, is it a new card?
To check if it's a hardware/overheating problem underclock the card as low as you can.
Check here for how to change clock frequencies.
If the atifacts go away you it's probably a defective hardware issue. If they don't it's probably software related.

  • FX5600-TD256 goes screwy

After 5 months working fine, attached with DVI cable to Sceptre LCD the monitor becomes intermittently unstable like a bad tv picture i am trying to tune in only in neon green.  I can make it go away by attaching standard VGA cable.  Replaced DVI cable, OK for 8 hours.  Updated drivers and it seems stable but when starting machine from cold the DOS screens have the green haze with vertical patterns running through it and neon green snow.

    mathis60,
Check your Refresh Rates.  If you need more answers, I can pull out my dart board if you like, since I do not have a clue what the specs of your comp are.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • Geforce FX5600-TD256 and 533 Mhz ???

First of all, excuse me for my pour English but I come from Belgium. I bought yesterday a "Geforce FX 5600 TD-256". On the box, MSI write 533 Mhz - 12.1 Gb/s but the core clock is 325 Mhz and the memory clock is 400 Mhz. To what does the 533 Mhz refer? I don't understand very well. I thought 533 Mhz was the memory clock? Can somebody give me some explanations? Thanks in advance…
    Vincent

Dude, it looks that you really doesn't know what you are buying... the 533Mhz refers to the AGP 8X running at that speed...it has nothing to do with the GPU or memory clocks.
Please check the features/speeds of a (in this case a video card) before buying anything, or at least read the reviews of the cards to really know what you are buying.
    Bye.

  • Fx5600???

    hello friends...
i want to replace my ti4200 4x vga, what is teh best choice and why:
    FX5600-VTDR256
    FX5600-TD256
    FX5600-TD128
    FX5600-VTDR128
    FX5600U-VTD128
    please help me
    all best for all

I have MSI FX5600 VTDR-128 and whilst I am very happy with it, the feature that really swung me, the remote control, isn't very good. After major problems getting it working, it is just not worth using (laggy, finicky etc).
I also bought it for the DX9 features so that it would be future proof, particularly for the upcoming Half Life 2. Recent announcements make it clear that the DX9 performance for that game is absolutely rubbish compared to ATI cards (boo). So, in my opinion, you should broaden your horizons and check out reviews and benchmarks for lots of different cards. This is a good place to start:-
    http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/index.html
The reason I am very happy with my card is that I don't really care about slight differences in framerate etc and also I upgraded from a GeForce 2 MX so I am not very picky.
    Good luck
    Ross

  • VIVO at models FX5600, 5800, 5900

Also can u tell me the major differences between FX5600 models ?
    thanks Dionyss

The ones with "VTD" (the "V" is video) support video in.
    FX5600 -VTDR128 = VIVO + 128MB
    FX5600 -TD256 = 256MB
    FX5600 -TD128 = 128MB

  • VGA Bios questions...

My VGA card is MSI FX5600-TD256.
    Here are my questions:
1)Which is the latest Bios version for my card? My current version is 4.31.20.39.00. Is there a newer one? Searching through the web I found another version including this text in the read me file:
    Quote
    MSI GeForce FX BIOS
Name     : GeForce FX 5600 BIOS
    Version  : 4.31.20.69.00    Ultra : No
2)Is it worth updating the bios? (I have restart problems probably caused by graphics card...)
3)Which is the proccess I have to follow to update it? (Just copy the .rom file in a disk and boot from that disk??)
4)Why in MSI site there are no VGA Bios files?
5)How do I back up my current VGA bios version?
    Thanks in advance...

If MSI live Update finds no BIOS upgrade then there is no BIOS upgrade available. Even if there is one available, I don't recommend updating VGA BIOS unless there is a known documented issue relating to your problem. As far as I know there is no issue currently. I have not come across this issue in these forums either.
I don't have any answers to your restart problem since you did not provide any details of this restart problem. I cannot guarantee I would even if you did, but do so anyway.
I never update VGA BIOS's so I can't help you on backing up your current VGA BIOS. Someone else will have to step in for that.
The MSI site doesn't archive VGA BIOS files for the public. MSI only updates the original VGA BIOS from nVidia in circumstances such as when they decide to use a different RAM package than specified from nVidia spec. Oftentimes I see users reporting that MSI Live Update hosed their VGA BIOS after an update and in a few circumstances I have been able to request the original BIOS file.
Again, it's not worth updating the VGA BIOS as they get it right the first time and they hardly ever deviate from the original nVidia BIOS unless a certain RAM package is used for say an OEM version of the card or a performance version where they may use a faster package etc.
I recommend looking elsewhere for your restart problem.
