It's been posted here a page or two back, so if you must play HL2 now, I would consider the other alternative. It doesn't look good at the moment for nVidia but who's to say what will happen.

Fx5900 Xt-vtd128 S-vhs Vivo?

I think I want a FX5900 XT-VTD128. (I need VIVO)
BUT the description on the MSI site says:
TV-out (S-Video connector)
DVI Connector
Video_in (Composite Video)
Does it have both composite and s-video inputs, or just composite only?
The VIVO dongle has both types for input as well as output,
but maybe it is a generic part and the above notice means the
s-video input does not work on this card?

Tom's Hardware Guide says the "twin flow" fan on the back of the
MSI FX5900 TD128 interferes with installing in some MBs but this
looks ike a different fan.

Trying to clock MSI FX5900 TD128

First of all: HI! (This is my first post here ) )
I recently got muself a MSI FX5900 TD128. I installed the msi drivers and I saw it is possible to adjust the clock there. It is one (2D) that says 300mhz and one (3D) that says 400mhz. I've tried to adjust the 3D-clock to 450mhz (ultra settings) but when I reboot the pc it is back at 400mhz.
I don't know if I am doing this right and what the difference on 2d and 3d-clock is. Does anybody know?

You are having the same problem that I had with my FX5200 that the settings were not being saved. I do not know why this is.
I downloaded the Geforce tweak utility from http://download.guru3d.com/gtu/ this allows you to change clock settings.
P.S the 300Mhz is memory speed
the 400Mhz is the GPU speed

New FX5900 TD128 - Power Connector?

Hello everyone,
I just bought a new FX5900 TD128 card to replace my FX5600, but before I install it, could abyone tell me what the power connector on the card is for? Do I need to connect it to the power supply, or is there some other specific purpose for it? Sorry if its a silly question, but I don't want to risk damaging my new card and the manual does not mention it at all.

I measured the current drawn from it, something like 3A from the 12V and 3A from the 5V so that's about 50W, way more than just powering the fans.
The card will work without the plug, but the fans won't spin and the card will prevent you from entering 3D mode to prevent overheating.

FX5900-TD128 memory problem

Hey there,
I've been having some trouble with (I presume) my graphics card. Basically I can play games just fine after my computer has just started up (or reset). But after a while of playing games or using 3d software in general I can't start a new game.
The games just refuse (start loading and then the window closes) to start or give me various error messages, so here are some:

Also, something that I probably should have mentioned is that I've had the graphics card for quite some time without encountering this problem. The only thing that I have changed recently is swapping the DvD-RW in for a (broken) DVD drive.
I dont see how this could affect the games (I've tried using the CD and the new DVD drive for the CDs) so I would imagine it may be a driver problem. I've gone through all the drivers I have and the most recent ones from both the nvidia and MSI site.

FX5900-TD128 power

I recently bought an MSI Nvidia FX5900-TD128 video card and am installing it into a brand new system that I am building.
On the card is a "Power Connector", but there is no mention of plugging power to it in the documentation. Am I supposed to plug in power from my power supply to this connector?

Yes, there is a splitter wire in the box if you need it.
The fans won't spin without the extra power !

FX5900-TD128 - Dual monitor support?

I'm thinking of buy a FX5900-TD128 card, but I want dual monitor support (2 CRTs). I looked on the product info page, but it doesn't explicitly say the card can actually do this... I don't want to find out the hard way by dropping $400+ on a card and then finding out it can't do something I need ;(
BTW: I assume this thing will fit fine in a 865PE Neo2-LS mobo... right?

Help! FX5900 locking up.

Just got an MSI FX5900 card. But have been having problems with it whilst playing Joint Ops game. Locking up on me- having to reboot. Also locked during 3Dmark. Have tried things such as changing drivers, disabling fast write ect but there is one hardware issue I`m not sure about. Looking at manual saw example of card with 2 large heatsinks, one on each side.Mine only has one, but fan on each side. Since bought this second hand was wondering is this correct (since there is option to remove heatsink if doesn`t fit!) Also could I have connected it all up wrong- clutching at straws here, but first card of this type with direct connection to PSU and all. The manual seems to say that i should connect both power connectors from the card into PSU. But I`ve only been able to connect the one, the other is just hanging loose because there was no where to plug it in. If my problem is not a heat issue, has anyone any other suggestions.
UPDATE- minimised game and checked temp from nividia panel. GPU temp 58/59. Is this high? Also have been told by someone that my connections are correct, but that I could just connect directly without power splitter. Is this true?

Changing splitter DID seem to indicate a difference. But then the next night my computer crashed several times during game playing. Now computer was on downloading and the like for couple of hours beforehand. This was the only difference between previously crash free evening & this that I could see. During one crash it actually lagged very badly just before final crash and I was able to minimse game to check temp. Was only 55C. ?? After reboot CPU temp registered as well within acceptable. Latest BIOS is installed both for card & board. Have a new theory at moment though! In the days leading up to the start of problem, I flashed BIOS. Performance seemed down until I noticed that all BIOS settings had reset to default, including FSB. Promply moved this from 100MHZ up to 166MHZ. (333FSB if I`m not mistaken) And then it popped in to my head this morning that my processor may be the 266MHZ version. In which case I have inadvertantly overclocked!! Which would explain alot. Problem now is that by switching to 133MHZ(266) FSB my processor is showing as 2000Athlon instead of 2.6 and only giving 1600 MHZ. Multiplier sets automatically but on manual only goes to 13. Also what does FSB spread spectrum do?

BFG FX5900 Graphics (Strange Lines)

I've installed 3 of the same cards on this K72NG-ISLR motherboard, and i get the same result. Verticle Lines with little dots in them flashing. This happends at the Main BIOS screen and during the Windowsxp Logo testing startup screen. After that is much better, but still have shadowing, lines around the mouse pointer, and some corrupted Icons on the desktop in windows. I have Latest bios release 1.6 Award, and i'm not sure if there's a hardware update for the 128meg CFG FX5900 yet.
As anyone else here had similar problems? Please post remedies, or shed some light on the subject.

I've seen screens like that due to a seating problem with the card.
As you describe, logging out, or a restart would restore the screen.
When I first saw this behavior, it was when the machine was awakened from Sleep......
Reseat the card, and when tightening the hold down screw, make sure the card does not pull over to one side as the screw is tightened.
The clockwise turn of the screw can move the card over (down in the G5) which can cause some pins to have weak contact.
Also take care that the card is not tilted forward at all.
Pulling on the cables can cause the connectors toward the rear of the card to slightly lift out of the slot.
If, after cleaning, and adjusting the seating of the card, the symptoms continue, or especially if they worsen, the card may be considered compromised.
I would also try running the machine in a new user account just to be sure that a software problem within the account isn't culprit.

Nvidia FX5900 Does it work with K8T Neo2-FIR??

I'm considering upgrading my old Ti 4400 to a new FX5900 card. Can anyone tell me if this card works properly in the K8T Neo2-FIR??

The 6600/6800/X800 series all have newer implimentations of the latest graphics programming and hardware. Buying an older card is OK if money is the only answer and you can even find the older cards cheap enough to matter. However by going with an older feneration card you are getting older generation utility as well. At some point that will come back to haunt you. 1: you forgot the FX series was the last card using the best and unoptimised Anisotropic filtering
2: the shader3.0 model is nearly the same crap the shader2.0 was for the Fx series :D try playing the latest splinter cell with sm3.0 and soft shadows and tell me the fps you get
if you play games like ut2004, hl2 (with the FX shader fix to use the good looking water) then a FX 5900ultra works good enough
if you only need power without thinking about the image quality, which includes the very nice optimised ati-AF then get a Gf 6 series card.
at the beginning i wanted to update my card too coz of the shader model2.0 limitation, but now i wont. too often i compared the rendered quality and the FX always won, so i wait for a card that doesnt need to use "hardware" or "driver" "optimizations" :D - cheater

FX5900-VTD128 hates white-backgrounds!!!

I have an MSI FX5900-VTD128(602-8929-020) VGA card which really doesn’t like white backgrounds!!! I mean whenever I open an app. that has a white background, like winXP’s ‘My Computer’, the common ‘File Save as…’ dialog box or even in a game’s static config. screen which has areas with intense white colour, my monitor suddenly displays a blinking colorful image (like the VGA test screens of those emulation(MAME) arcade games!) for a few seconds and then it switches to power-save mode. If I press the reset-button, the system restarts but the monitor
still blinks. To fix it I have to either turn-off the system or press the key
a few times till it restarts.
In the latter case, windows reboots and reports a system-crash with the following message:

I have tried all drivers up to version 56.63(problematic with WDM!). Currently, I have v53.03(Not MSI’s version but downloaded from MSI’s web site. Driver is not WHQL-certified) which seems to be OK overall. If I disable the ‘window transparency’ on dragging, in the ‘nView’ properties util., the problem doesn’t occur so frequently!
Apart from the aforementioned situation, the card works just fine with any 3D game…

P.S.: On Linux (Mandrake v9.2) I’ve never had any problems, using the std. XFree nv driver!!!
However, KDE doesn’t have windows with an intense white backgroundJ!!!

There is no easy path from ID to AI. You can try copy/paste, but don't expect miracles. Export to PDF/X-4 might work, too, but you'll have a lot of cleanup to do in Illustrator (which is not a general purpose PDF editor).

Geforce fx5900 K7n420

I was just wondering if anyone here has had any success getting a Geforce FX 5900 or 5900U to run on a K7n420. I've read on this fourm that the MSI version won't fit. How about any of the other brands like BFG, PNY ect.... How about any of the other FX cards 5600u ??

Well I tried a BFG FX5900 128mb tonight on my K7N420. It fit in the slot ok but everytime I tried to boot I would get strange looking bars on the screen just before & durning the windows XP loading screen. Then as computer would be ready to go into windows. The screen would go black and the monitor would lose signal.
Before installing the FX card I used driver cleaner to clean out old drivers. I'm running bios 2.7 on my K7N420 with Windows XP home SP1 & 2.03 Nforce drivers.
My power supply is 350 watts. I was thinking that maybe my power supply might be the problem but I just tried an ATI 9800 Pro & it installed & ran fine with no problems that I could see. Does the FX 5900 need more power than the 9800 Pro?
Maybe I just got a bad card or maybe there is a problem with the K7N420 & the FX5900? . Has anyone got any Geforce FX5900 (Pny,BFG, Asus ect....) to run on the K7N420 pro? I really would like to know, I have searched the fourm here & at NforcesHQ & could not find an answer to this question. Maybe I should just get a 9800 Pro & be done with it. It would be funny if a 9800Pro would run fine on this Nvidia chipset board & Nvidia's FX could not.

MSI FX5900 Ultra 256 MB and MSI 648 MAX

I have just installed my new FX5900 Ultra graphics card and when ever the card runs any 3D application for more than a couple of minutes, my PC will instantly shut down. The only way I can get it back up, is to remove my power cable from the PSU and wait about 20 seconds and then the PC will boot again.
I have checked the temperature of the card before and after the shutdown; and the latest Nvidia reference drivers show a GPU core temperature of 37 C. In addition, if I put my original GeForce 3 back into my computer, I experience no problems.
Looking on the internet, I have come across other people who have had a similar problem and this was resolved by changing the AGP slot to run at 4x rather than 8x. I have gone through the 648 Max BIOS and am unable to find anywhere where I can step down to 4x AGP.
Any Help Will Be Greatly Received.

Thanks for your help guys. Whilst I have not been able to pick up my new powersupply, I have removed the Q-Tec 400W and put my old 300W PSU back, and guess what?? My PC has not shutdown since.
This power supply lark is totally new to me, and it does seem that a good quality 300W PSU can be better than a average 400W. I have never looked at the 3.3, +5 and +12 before, just the total wattage. Well, you do live and learn. Though it would have been nice if MSI put information like this in the manual of the card, or the WEB FAQ's.
I shall pick up my new 520W PSU on Saturday. Then I can put this new 5900 Ultra through its paces!!
