Fx5900sp Vtd256 Bios

Hi There. I was wondering if anyone can help me. I need to find a copy of my MSI FX5900SP VTD256 BIOS, to download, i lost my copy on floppy disc and now my gfx card is not working right, i need the origanal BIOS file. Hope someone can help me, im stuck.

Well, MSI sent me a new copy of my BIOS, for my FX5900SP VTD256 (Nbox), gfx card. So my Card is back to the way it was when i first bought it.
So if anyone needs a copy of the BIOS, please contact me.
Thanks for the Help
So, there you go, you DONT HAVE TO SEND THE CARD BACK TO MSI,
And, it never turned out to be an expensive key chain.

  • Does MSI FX5900SP VTD256 like ASUS A7S333?

I just got my new MSI GeForceFX5900SP VTD256.
After uninstalling my previous board and configuring my new card, my computer froze with a blank white screen.
After variuos unsuccessfull setups from at my BIOS, I decided to format and reinstall my Windows2000 with SP3.
As soon as I install my video drivers, the problem comes back.
Fooling around with my BIOS setup (AGP apperture size and stuff) and my card memory, 2D and 3D frequences, I could put my system to work ok for a longer time. But it freezes at the and anyway.
I found that my cards conf was unable to detect my AGP slot speed and capabilities (mine is 4X). And it detected it as "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I then updated my mobo BIOS and installed a new VGA driver from ASUS. Now my fx5900 can detect my AGP speed and now it displays "AGP" instead of "AGP(on PCI mode)".
I thought that would work but it still freezes after a moment. I unplugged all my periferals, leaving only my HD, CDRW and video card on fearing that it could be something with power force.
If I use only regular apps, like browsing the internet and stuff, my comp works for about 10 min before freezing. But if I run 3Dmark 2000, it crashes right in the 1st, 2nd test.
Any IDEAS what is going on? Is it overheating (the cooler runs ok and the temperature when I check is cool)? Is my card malfunctioning?
    Here's my systems config:
    Athlon XP1700+
    512MB DDR
    HD 40GB seagate 7200RPM
Mobo ASUS A7S333 - bios as331600 and most recent drivers
MSI GeForce fx5900SP VTD256 with most recent drivers
Config on BIOS set to -
    AGP Aperture size = 256MB
    Agp "Speed" = 4X
Video card = AGP VGA Card
    Supprt for PCI2.1 = enabled
    Fast writes = Enabled

What is a PSU? Power Supply Unit.
If it is, I will check it tonight and I will post it here.
Do you really think this is a power related problem?
I have already unppluged everything, leaving only my video card and HD turned on, eacho in its own power cord.
Thx in advance. I hope I can get this to work. My games are staring at me...
P.S. I'm thinking in buying ASUS A7V8X-X. Do u think this board will present no prblem with my new card?

  • FX5900Nu: msi x gainward x Bios and why ppl flash their cards.

I have a gainward fx5900 1100 400/700 2.8ns 128 and I cut off some board tracks testing water cooling fittings (more like drunk friend nests board on top of cutting tools).
Anyway, it's the simplest fx5900Nu model from gainward.
I had to finish the tests with the cooler, so I went out and bought a "MSI SUPERIOR PRODUCT fx5900sp vdt256".
I also have an old MSIti4600 4x and its a totally awsome board, so I though the SP would be great too. It's also has similar clock/mem specs 2.8 as the gainward, exept for the memory size. Before bothering to dismantle the huge cooler from the Msi I ran tests so I could compare both boards "stock cooled".
I tested both with 56.55 and these are my "results":
With the gainward I was able to IN AN EASY WAY to find ZILLIONS OF BIOS FILES, and they are nice ppl too, they write a little bat file so all u have to do to flash the bios is SIMPLY type : flash -> enter and it's done . If you try to flash to a diferent model they prompt you to confirm..DoNe...u dont have to D.O.S. your way into Nvflash wich is also a dread to less experienced users. (I wont even mention my feelings about Msi's "live update" feature)
Boot a floppy, type "flash", Boot.
30 seconds later I'm back into windows with the new bios.
I flashed 2 5950U , 2 5900U and FIVE 5900Nu bios files thus finding the best set for my card (one of the 5 5900nu testeds) increasing the card's performance at least 20~30% default AND overclocked.
    Getting scores like 55k Aniso off/50k Aniso on  Aquamark, 6,8k Fm2k3 , 19k 3dm2001se...etc just from changing bios was great, that stock cooled with Agp4x on a 533 p4 3.06 @ 3.6 512 + rambus 1250mhz almost 2 year old setup.
Similar performance with temperature drops were obtained using both 5950 roms, but overall 2 of the bios writen for Nu's were absolutely perfect.
I could EASILY take it from the original 400/700 to 510/970 benching @ 507/960 without artifacts and rock solid, even with the crappy stock aluminum cooler (wich is the reason for the watercooler, that board DESERVES a Watercooling kit.).
    Msi Superior Product:
Now I just finished "testing" the Msi's SP :
    - Could not raise the memory past 820 without artifacts and didn't even test that for too long.
    - The core would quit @ 470~480, even with the bios flashed @ 5950 and now i can't even use that bios becose the memory (go back to default bug) resets to 950 and doesn't even hold long enough to be downed.
    - The scores (@480/850) were ludicrous like 49k in aquamark no Aniso and 42k aniso on...and no, it wasn't performance-drop-for-being-too-overclocked.
I didn't even bothered runing other tests, doom3alpha had terrible locks and bugs (runs fine on the gainward @ maxfps 1024 going to 30 on the heaviest parts against 17 on the Msi)
    - Why is it SO HARD to find Bios for Msi's Vga's????...my guess being becose they (Msi) simply don't make them...they do one or 2 (most likelly 1),  and that's it. No further work is done to improve boards performance even though EVERY Nvidia enthusiast aways expect driver AND bios optimizations and improvements FREQUENTLY, and I think it's a real shame...Msi is falling behind while other companies are employing more resources into fine tunning and improving their current range of cards.
The reason of this post is that, as it never crossed my mind it would be hard to find Msi bios files, I never backed the original one and I need it urgently so I can flash the right bios for the Fx5900VTD256 and return the card with it's original features.
After reading about 20 posts begging for various bios (the ones asking for my model had no answers) and pll saying flat out " Why you wanna change your bios?? It's meaningless, not needed etc.." I decided to post these words on my experience on flashing bios, especially after the Dx9 paranoia and I mean..we all flash mobo's bios frequently...
Good bios files and good drivers are a card's soul, I do not care for extra Cd's and stuff I won't even take out off the box.
I care about good performance and hard working on tunning/feedback/updating and I aways thought since Msi had resources to give heaps of cd freebies (and I apreciate that too) it was becose it had the "tunning/updating" part covered.
I also would like to sugest that the all Bios files avaiable for all boards should be made publically avaiable, even if it hurts Msi's image for having less files than other manufactures. As consumers/enthusiasts we deserve to have easy access to all that can be used to improve our cards.
I apologise for my bad english, I'm from Brazil and I hope my post is constructive and sparks an effort on Msi towards improvement on the issues mentioned.
Other interesting fact I'd like to mention is thar Msi's SP has a HUGE cooling solution, on both sides, 1 fan each side for the aditional memory while Gainward's collers and sinks are basically aluminium "full cheapo mode" on, so I find it amazing that the Gainward card is so superior in performance.
So if some kind soul could post the Bios file for the FX5900SP VTD256 I'd aprecciate very much, I couldn't find it anywere in the web and tried the forum search too, but requests for the file haven't been answered and I really need this file so I can return the card as soon as possible or if there is more than one bios for this board I'd like to see if there is significant improvement. Both ones I tested (original and 5950) are plain very slow.
    regards

I don't understand the editing in the first post....
There was a speed drop with the new bioses in the original post...
Did you switch that on purpose (meaning you don't have any problems??)
Or you made a mistake in the new speeds???

  • I Got a Problem,

Ok i just built a new computer now i've installed XP went to install the Nvidia Nforce2 drivers for motherboard (K7N2 Delta-ILSR) they installed ok, Then i installed my video card drivers (MSI GeForce Fx5900SP-VTD256) upon reboot my computer failed to load it got passed the windows XP loading screen then just hung on a blank screen before it got to the winXP login screen, then restarted.
loaded up again said my windows failed to load up right before blah blah blah so i went into safe mode, where i was greeted with a message saying basic the MSI GeForce Fx5900SP-VTD256 display drivers was the reason behide my computers instability. so i uninstall them restarted my computer and my normal windows mode loaded up perfect, so i install the drivers again and believe it or not got the same problem. so i went into safe mode removed them and restarted, when i got back into normal mode i went to msi website and downloaded the driver for my videocard on there, install them and got same problem. so this time i went into safe mode and removed the Nvidia NForce drivers restarted my computer and believe it or not my computer loaded up in windows normal mode, but when i check my haardware section i also noticed it uninstalled my videocard, so i install my videocard drivers again restarted my computer, computer reloaded and went straight into windows normal mode with my video drivers installed, then i install the nvidia nforce drivers and restarted, guess what. yep my computer failed to load into normal windows mode so i went to safe mode again but this time there was no message waiting for me to say what the problem was so i uninstall my display drivers restarted and came here hope someone understands what i've wrote and can help me if you need anymore info on my system just ask

Well restarts on machines are commonly caused by two things...so again they must be checked first:
PSU has to be powerful enuff to supply the amps/power that the system requires...get something more beefy to power this rig.
     Power Supply Guide
Second check your memory to see if it's failing using memtest. If you get any failures after say 10 to 15 passes then you've got a problem. Run it overnight and see what it does...
After that I would look at compatibility of components in the system such as video card or sound card...
Driver combinations are important and certain versions don't play well together...
    Good luck on your troubleshooting!

A bad thing.  But the card is still flashable no matter what the condition of the BIOS within.  For example, have a looksy here

  • MSI - FX5900SP-VTD128 - Need bios

Anyone got a MSI - FX5900SP-VTD128 with the original bios? I really need it...
    Thanks

There are no up-to-date Performance BIOS Versions available for your mainboard.  If Performance BIOS Versions ever existed, they were released in the early BIOS Development Phase for testing purposes.  To be honest, I have not come across any Performance BIOS for your board yet and it is also highly questionable if such a BIOS would help you in any way (if it existed).  Whatever problem there is (or not is) does not necessarely have much to do with the BIOS you use.
If you need help and advice on overclocking, please open your own topic in the OC Section of this forum, provide FULL system specifications (read the >>Posting Guide<< first) and post a list of your current Cell Menu settings for comparison.

  • MSI FX5900SP 128VTD overclocking or bios flashing help?

I have a MSI FX 5900SP 128VTD and was wondering if any one has managed to flash the bios with that of a FX5900U, the card uses 2.8ns ddr so i am a bit put off about trying it, if any one has flashed the same card as what i have or if they are O/C it could they let me know what it is O/C too, i have flashed the card before but flashed it back as the bios was unsuitible? :angryfire:the clock speed of the card at default are 400/700, were as the standard FX 5900 and FX5900U clock speeds are 450/850, so if anybody knows there stuff? :yes:let me know.
            Thanx

Thanks for the link and also the advice about making it into a key chain, but i flashed it??? with the leadtek A350 bios, but it crashed after a few minutes? , sooo i flashed it back to the original bios ant tested it and everything is ok , i then got my hand on a original nvidia FX5900U bios and flashed it with that one, and everything has been ok , its now showing up as a FX5900 ultra and my clock speeds are 450/850 were as before when manually O/Cing i could only get 465/812, but i am now happy with it as i get 668 more 3d marks on 3dmark03 and its rocks in game better than before, so i guess am going to need touse it as a G card and not a key chain? shame lol .

    Hello:
    I have MSI VX6600-VTD256 (602-8988-010)
When use the drivers on the install CD that came with the card by
running "setup" from the root directory of the CD everything works fine.
However if I use the latest MSI drivers (nvidia_xp2k.v71.22) or the
latest nvidia drivers (71.89_win2kxp_english) I get anomalies and or
    artifacts on my desktop.
I would like to know why card works fine with the drivers on the install
CD, but has problems with the latest drivers even though the latest
    drivers are in fact newer.

  • NX6600 VTD256 intermittantly found as new hardware on XPPro startup.

    Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with my NX6600 VTD256 intermittantly being found as new hardware when starting up my computer. When the found new hardware wizard pops up I simply choose no for the installation and reboot. Every time I've done this with 1 exception the following startup is normal with the card found. ( the 1 exception was catastrophic and is documented in the linked thread)
Here is a link to the thread I have going in the MotherBoard section of this forum because I first thought it to be an IRQ issue. All my system Particulars and what I've tried are in the thread. Warning long read!
Thank you in advance for any suggestions that may be offered.
    Mike
    Thread:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=98247.0

    Hi Richard,
I did follow the advice in the windows drivers we recomend here thread and downloaded Driver Cleaner and used it following the instructions for removing Nvidia drivers. This is my second fresh install of winXP. Both on a new formatted hard disk.
    Here are my IRQ settings.
Although I disabled all the periphials I could in the Mobo Bios. USB, Serial ports, Parallel Port, and LAN. I also removed the 2 dvd's from the computer and had only 1 sata HDD. 1 gig mem stick, and the VGA card hooked up. I there were quite a few open IRQ's and nothing was sharing any. Here is what happened:
    Quote
It didn't take as long as I expected!!!!
I disabled everything that I could in the Mobo Bios Sound,USB, Lan, Serial Ports, Printer Port and disconnected the power and cables to the 2 DVD's, and power and cable to #2 SATA drive! Had to start up about 30 times and Pooof I think my VGA card just went belly up!
On the last 4 startups the resolution is stuck on 640 X 480 X 60 Hz  4 Bit. Now the found new hardware wizard does not come on but the "Your screen resolution is set at a very low level would you like windows to automaticlly adjust it?", comes on!  I clicked yes but nothing changed! I tried to go to settings to change it but the only setting I could access was the Display Frequency and when I changed it and clicked OK nothing happened it reverted back to 60 HZ!
I checked in Device manager under Display Adaptor and it says the device is working normally, All the drivers seem to be there as well.
What now?  I tried to restart it 5 times and it is stuck on 640 X 480 X 60 Hz 4 Bit.

Well my panic attack is over! Hehehehe The fun never stops with computers does it??? Grin
What I did do before reading your reply was, BTW I just finished with it and came on here to post and saw your reply,
What I did do was uninstall the NX6600 with device manager and restarted after I hooked everything I had disconnected back up to the computer and re enabled all the disabled devices in the Mobo Bios.
Well Windows found the video card and I reinstalled the drivers that came with the installation cd.
And all is well again which leads me to the conclusion that I have a VGA driver problem.
I then removed the Nvidia drivers removed norton system works completely from the computer. and installed Nvidias V.91.31. worked fine for a few startups then the found new hardware wizard came on with 640X480 60Hz resolution. rebooted and all was good. Then I tried the method in the windows drivers we recomend here thread removed all the nvidia drivers with Driver Cleaner, Disabled norton and installed Nvidia's V77.77 drivers. the problem came back again.

  • NBOX FX5900SP 256MB....i think i killed it

    Hi folks
i think i've killed my 5900SP ......... i removed both heatsinks and fans to replace the thermal grease, it looks as though i must have knocked a couple of capacitors from the card, and now it wont boot.
it gets to the bios screen which shows the different cd roms and the bios number etc..... there are white vertical stripes down the screen and then it resets and reboots and shows the same screen again before rebootin again.
i just really was wondering if there is anything that can be done for it or if all thats left is to throw it in the trash?????
    Athlon64 3000+ Newcastle, thermaltake purepower 480w psu, 1GB mushkin level1 (2-3-2-5), MSI K8T Neo-FISR2 , MSi FX5900SP 256MB GFX

thank richard, thats the only choice i got lol.......RMA it(if they'll take it) or chuck it hehehehe

  • Problem with my FX5600-VTD256

I have a K7N2 Delta ILSR mb and I'm using the MSI fx5600-vtd256 Video card. When I play Halo or GTA Vice City the cut seens look good but when the games starts all the buildings and streets are all mixed togetter. I'm using DX9. Is there a setting in BIOS I should be using or is there a better Nvidia vga driver. Has any one have a fix for this.
    Thanks, Ron.

    1Gb (512 x 2) PC3200 Kingston RAM
    MSI 6600 256MB VTD (AGP)
    1 Seagate 80Gb HDD
    SoundBlaster Live 128
    3 Com 100Mbit NIC
    OS: Win XP SP2
I used the MSI Live Update Utility. Mobo's BIOS was flashed, XP all updates installed. I downloaded MSI driver 77.6? for the 6600. Here is what happens.
With the original 6600 drivers(66.xx) on the CD, games work fine etc. If I install any other newer MSI driver, games work fine, BUT Real Player, DivX, Windows Media Player 10 use 99% of the CPU. I rolled back to the 6600 CD Driver and both games and videos now play. Has anyone found a work around for this? I would really like to be able to use the newest drivers. Any help will be most appriciated.
