FX5900XT vs RX9800Pro

Hi All
Question.
What video board may I buy for the same price 199 euro + VAT.
MSI FX 5900 XT   or   MSI RX9800 Pro.
Now I have Ti4200 8x 64.  ~ 12100 2k1 ( 300/600 )
I like N-Vidia
Please answer me
Regards
Mike

I agree that the Ti4200 is a great card.  In fact, it's good enough that I'm going to make a recommendation that I don't usually make.  Sit tight until November when the 6600 GT bridged to AGP may be released.  I've noticed that the 6600 256mb PCX cards are selling for sub-$200.  If they can do that with the AGP version, that would be the way to go.
Again, I normally wouldn't recommend waiting for some down the road technology because there's always something better around the corner.  But in this case, the Ti4200 really is a dandy little card (in fact it often times benchmarks better than all the 5x00 Geforce cards save for the 5900).  And if it were me, I'd hang on to it for 2 more months and spend my money on the 6600 when it comes out in AGP.
I have no idea how the 9800 compares to the 6600.  Obviously, if it outperforms it, then don't wait and get the 9800 now
Good luck

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 vs RX9800PRO-TD128SP

    Which card should I get?
    FX5900XT-VTD128 or RX9800PRO-TD128SP
I'm gonna upgrade my computer to an AMD 64 3000+ on the K8N Neo2 Plantinum mobo and I'm not sure which vid card to get.
I currently play wwiionline which runs way better on the nvidia cards than the ATI cards but I'm also looking at getting half-life 2 which doesn't even list any nvidia products in their system reqs (just ATI cards).
I can't afford the 6800 or X800 so don't bother telling me to get those.
    Any input is appreciated
    Thanks

The biggest question is what you play and how much. If you mainly play WWIIOL then go Nvidia. If you play a wide variety of games the 9800 Pro may be a better choice.
That's my problem. I was planning on mostly playing wwiiol which is why I was gonna get the FX59000XT but I'm looking at picking up HL2 which highly recommends ATI over FX cards
Are the benefits of nvidia over ATI for wwiiol greater than the benefits of ATI over nvidia for HL2?
    - If YES then nvidia is the better choice
    - If NO then ATI is the better choice.

Does any body out there know if a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU and a MSI FX5900XT 128MB DDR Video Card will work well together?

like the grayone say, is true. for more ensure, try and search the graphic cards support list for your board at MSI (Sorry cause i don,t no is  where the site located)
in my opinion, most is compability for your card, when is a AGP slot.

  • Rx9800pro-td128 vs rx9800pro-td128sp

    I ordered a "rx9800pro-td128" from newegg. what arrived is a "rx9800pro-td128sp".
The "sp" version is listed as "new" on msi's site, but it looks to have a smaller heatsink/fan. why is this the "new" version? is the sp version "newer and better for the end user" or "newer and better for msi to sell" (ie. cheaper to make)?
Normally I would specifically want a "new" model, but the heat sink on the "old" version looks like it would do a better job. I did read in one post that the fan on the "old" model was noisy. Is the fan on the "new" model less noisy? Has anyone done any temp comparisons to know if one is better than the other?
Also, can anyone please summarize what the r350 and r360 core differences are? Why does everyone want the r360?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Ati`s card don`t come with any games at all.
Some other companies include some games but not too many.
MSI is the company that give you the most games.
If all the 14 in 1 games are all full versions, it is an excellent bundle of games.

  • Fx5900xt not working

I had this problem from the start, just haven't gotten around to fix it yet... Could someone help me?
In windows i can do whatever i want, and it doesn't hang.
As soon as i start any type of game it crashes, either to the desktop or completely. It can be the latest great big graphics-hungry game or just good old Heroes of might and magic.
Sometimes it is stable for lengthy periodes of time but mostly it crashes after 2-10 minutes...
I'm thinking something like hardware error, or some crappy little setting. I have both win 98 and xp, and it's the same on both... I belive i have the latest drivers, but i'm not sure, ill check that...
    Some of my stuff:

I am thinking this becuase there is going to be a hech of a lot of heat in your case do to no exhaust fans apart from psu
without my case fans i get temps in the high 50s iload so im thinking u got a better cpu and better gfx card that produce more heat also your heatsink isnt as effeicnat as mine so thats why i think this

  • RX9800PRO 128MB Rendering Issues

I recently purchased the MSI RX9800Pro 128MB card from newegg.  On initial install of the catalyst 4.7 drivers everything was well.  I am upgrading from a Geforce 4 Ti4600, so it's should be quite an upgrade, yet I have 2 issues. (i did a full uninstall of the NVIDIA drivers before installing the new card).
    1. After about 30-45 minutes of playing a game, I get VERY wierd geometry errors.  Like suddenly walls are protuding outside into nowhere, textures are streched beyond what they should be, etc.  I have a screenshot of Starwars Galaxies if anyone needs an example.  This is the issue i care about.
    2. I don't really notice a speed increase, I don't have any benchmarking tools installed for before and after.  This issue could just be my imagination though. (you always think new purchases are ganna be a magical change   )
I'm running an Intel 2.4 Ghz, 1GB ram, on an Asus P4PE motherboard.  i'm using the onboard sound and ethernet.  I have a DVD-burner, floppy, and another DVD-ROM drive. 2 hard drives, 1 CPU fan, and 2 case fans, 2 fans are attached to the motherboard power, 1 fan is attached to PSU molex.  It's in an Antec case, with the Antec SL350 PSU.  (+5V/35A +12V/16A +3.3V/28A), output of 330 says the label.  I'm running Windows XP SP1, on the latest ATI 4.7 drivers.  Also i have the power connector from the card plugged into a dedicated molex out from the PSU. I hope that covers all the specs you'll need
So is this card defective or am i just demanding too much out of my PSU?  Would disconnecting the DVD's/floppy/fans help to determine this?
Thanks for any help in advance, i love this card thus far and would hate to have to return it!

I definitly dont have the time or patience to reformat, nor should i have to, nor do i think it will help.  I think it is related to heat issues, yet the card never gets hot as i think it could.  I can still touch the heatsinks, granted it's very hot, but it won't burn me.
But the reason i think it's related to heat is because games will be fine for some time while i play them, then suddenly i'll start to see a patch of messed up pixels all throughout the screen, then the geometry rendering issues start to appear on new loads of levels/characters.  I've even tried opening up the case and putting a external fan right on it, I still get the issues.
It's odd tho, nothing ever locks up, and 2d always works fine.  Might I have a defective card? i have done endless searches and cannot find one other person who has this same issue.

  • VCR capture FX5900XT VTD128

I have connected the vcr to the video in of the card using the RCA to S-Video connector supplied with the card.  All drivers are installed including the capture drivers.
I can't find a way to capture (even see) the output from my vcr.  Should this be possible and if so how?
There does not seem to be any tv tuning capability so how does the card know where to look for the signle?  Or am I missing something in the driver install and should have a tv turner device?
    System
    P4 3.2G
    Asus P4P 800 Motherboard
    MSI FX5900XT VTD128
    1G ram

You are confusing RF-in (or aerial input) with video-in (or TV-in).  Cards with an inbuilt TV tuner, which your card lacks, have an RF-in socket into which one usually connects an aerial; and with the appropriate software one can search the RF spectrum for a TV station's broadcast frequency in the same way a radio is tuned to a particular radio station.  The Video-in socket takes a different kind of signal and gets it direct from a video device.  There is no tuning.
Get some video capture software. AmCap is pretty basic.  Once installed select S-Video input from Options -> Crossbar, then select Options -> Preview and you should be getting a picture.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 capture problem

    Hi,
I read the many posts about capture problems but did not recognise my issues.
I just got FX5900XT-VTD128 and I am trying to get it to capture with WinDVD creator (bundled). WinDVD would start but then it would hang without listing any capture device.
I installed the latest WDM drivers from the nVidia site (2.20_wdm-vivo.exe)
Device manager list the following devices under sound, video and game controllers:
     - nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar (12-2-2003)
     - nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)  (12-2-2003)
The multimedia tab in control panel show the following under "devices"
under "Video Capture device" -->  -Microsoft WDM Capture
After reading the posts, I suspected a WDM driver problem so I did the following:
1- removed both nVidia WDM devices from device manager
2- removed Microsoft WDM Capture from multimedia devices
3- removed nVidia WDM drivers with Driver Cleaner
I rebooted and confirmed that no nVidia WDM devices were present in Device manager and that no WDM capture device were present under multimedia capture devices.
I re-installed nVidia WDM driver 2.20 and rebooted. Windows plug and play recognised both nVidia WDM devices and installed drivers for it.
When I checked, both Device manager and Multimedia capture device were back as they were before the driver re-install yet WinDVD still hang when I click "capture" (Window is still alive, I can kill WinDVD manualy but I would then not be able to restart it without first rebooting).
I tried Flycap and VirtualVCR with no better result, they hang.
I am using Win98 SE on a Gygabyte  GA-7N400-l motherboard with AMD Sempron 2400+ CPU and 512MB RAM. I have no other card in the PC.
I am using nVidia driver 66.94 from the file: "66.94_win9x_english.exe"
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • May I use MSI FX5900XT with Adobe Premier 1.5 to capture analogic video?

    Hi Folks,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use MSI FX5900XT with Adobe Premier 1.5 capturing video ?
I am trying to use this software to capture video and I see that Premier does not recognize it. I can normally capture with Virtual VCR or VirtualDub.
Is there any plug in or driver to permit Premiere recognize the MSI FX5900XT ?
    Regards,
    Mario Rodrigues

In the Adobe site there is no mention about Nvidia Cards.
I think it is stranger because the capture with Nvidia Cards are becoming very common nowadays.
I would like to know if someone has tried to capture with Adobe Premier using MSI FX5900XT.

  • Geforce FX5900XT and WinXP: No Desktop?

    Hi, all -
I've tried the biostar boards, Sudhian and planet half-life. Now I come to the source, so to speak...
I have a Biostar IDEQ 200N, running an Athlon mobile 2600+ at 200x12.5. I have 2x512MB of PC3200 Geil Value RAM. Originally, I was running Windows 2000.
I recently upgraded my MSI FX5600 to a FX5900XT to run Half Life 2, or so I thought. After uninstalling the nvidia drivers (v66.93), swapping out the board, and reinstalling 66.93, I am having trouble.
Originally, under Win2K, it was random BSODs - IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL was a popular one, and also KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, I believe.  If I removed the nvidia drivers, or booted into VGA mode, these did not occur.
I decided to upgrade to WinXP, which went alright. As soon as I put in a  video driver, though, things got weird.  It boots fine, I see the POST and the WinXP splash screen.  When it should be showing me the desktop, I just see blank screen. Not "No Signal," but just blackness.  The OS is loaded in the background, I can use the windows key and alt-U to shutdown and/or reboot, I just get no desktop.
I thought it might be a power issue since the 200N only has a 200W psu. (I'm ordering an upgrade!) There are tons of folks on the Sudhian forums who say they're working with this card and ones that are more power hungry in this box, but I've run out of ideas.
I nabbed a 235W AND a 350W psu from other machines and set those up to ONLY power the 5900XT. That is, I shunted wires in the motherboard connector to make the PSU start up when plugged in, and attached a molex from it to the vid card - it didn't power ANY OTHER COMPONENT. I figured that if 235W couldn't get the card working, 350 surely would.
Wrong - same thing. Appears to boot fine, but no desktop.
Suggestions? It's a brand new card from newegg.  I've run out of ideas. I'm very annoyed. I'd like to play games again.
    Help?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Rob

Ah, yes! Sorry, sorry. I claim late-night brain death.
    Lessee:
-Motherboard type: Well, it's a SFF barebones. I've never tried to ID the mobo as a standalone. The IDEQ200N is a nForce2 chipset, tho.
-Bios: Phoenix Award BIOS, 6.00PG. Bottom of the screen reads 7/12/2004-nVidia-nForce-6A61BB02C-00
-CPU: AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2600+
    -Memory: Geil Value RAM DDR400. 2x512 = 1Gb
-Video card: MSI GForceFX 5900XT running drivers 66.93, OR 67.02
    -Power Supply: Enhance ENP-2220E.
          +3.3 = 17A
          +5 = 13A
          +12 = 15A
          -12 = 0.3A
          +5Vsb = 2A
       3.3+5 rails 65W total combined
-Hard Drives: Hitachi 160GB SATA on channel 0. Model HDS722516VLSA80
-Optical Drives: NEC DVD+-RW ND-3500A (Silver)
-Operating system: WinXP XP2 with all the latest windows Updates applied.
I am aware that the 200W psu is, in theory, not up to snuff.  My questions are:
    (1) Is my symptom a symptom of not-enough power? I was under the impression that the driver would simply pop up a message saying "Hey, ya need more power!" rather than not giving a desktop. Plus, I *do* get a desktop if I don't install the drivers at all.
    (2) If it is a power issue, why did adding a dedicated 350W (20A on the 3.3, I don't remember the 5V) just for the vid card not fix the problem?  The trouble with this box is that finding a high-power PSU that fits it is impossible for it.
Thanks again! & Sorry for the n00b mistake leaving out the specs.
    HTH,
    Rob

ive made a post about this already but it went un answered
this may be a problem with my computer and not the card
i had my fx5200 hooked up and was playing bf1942 and when i played something weird would happen
to put it in words the screen would beat like  a heart even when i was still i could notice a slight twitch on the screen. I assumed the 5200 was to poor of a card to run bf1942 so i purchased a msi geforce fx5900xt

What can cause this problem and how can i fix it?

    unclekreepy,
In all honesty, you might need to consider the power supply in your rig,
it might not be adequate, this is one of the major components that’s
overlooked by many builders, home and or professional, when upgrading
    there hardware!
If the PSU is inadequate you will experience, lockups, shutdowns, sudden
or random reboots, BSOD, and numerous other instability issues!
A 300 Watt PSU might not have enough wattage for your rig to be totally
stable, Athlon’s and FX cards are power hungrey!
I would borrow a friend’s higher watt PSU to see if that makes a difference!
PSU are sensitive to heat, an increase in temp equals a decrease in watts!
Always buy a quality named brand PSU like a Antec, Enermax, Fortron,
or the best PC Power & cooling!
This thread by clarkkent57 on “Choosing The Right Power Supply” is
a great place for you to get started, in this thread there is a link to a
PSU wattage calculator, there you will be able to calculate the correct
PSU wattage your rig will use, and remember to add 20% minimum
to 30% more watts onto those figures, and in return, those figures
should  tell you if you have a PSU related issue!

  • FX5900XT TV Out Distortion

    Hi everyone!
I have a problem with my MSI GeForce FX5900XT VTD 128 card:
Video out seems to work, but I get nasty random distortions in the signal (parts of the picture warped and shifted to the left and right, darker and brighter moving areas), and sometimes it seems to totally lose sync and the picture scrolls rapidly for some time. So the video out is basically unsable for me. It is not my TV, as I get the same distortions on my miniDV camera when hooked up to the card (both via S-Video and Composite). Changing the signal type doesn't seem to help, either (here in Germany it should be PAL-G or PAL-B).
I used the latest ForceWare from nVidia and am now using the latest driver from the MSI website. Both showed the same symptoms although I think with the MSI drivers the picture is a *little* more stable.
    My system specs:
    MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR
Pentium 4 HT @2.8 ghz (not overclocked)
Corsair TwinX 2x256 MB running in dual channel @ 400 mhz (had extreme stability issues when overclocking FSB, so I switched back to 400)
    MSI GeForce FX5900XT VTD 128
    Samtron CRT 76BDF
    PSU XILENCE 400W (3.3V: 25A, 5V: 28A, 12V: 15A, -5V: 0.3A, Total O/P 222W)

  • Can RX9800Pro capture video?

    Hello friends,
    I recently purchased a MSI RX9800Pro Plus, and I have a question:
    Can it really capture video?
In their oficial website MSI talks about "Capture pictures and video at up to 30 frames per second."
This card uses an VIA VT1623M for VideoOut. But this chip also ALLOWS Video In.
The card includes a cable for TV-Out S&C Conector, but in the SVideo connector I can see two arrow, each one in different ways (incoming and outcoming).
What's wrong, or what I have to do?
I also would like to ask you other things:
With default cooling I was able to push te card to a maximum of 434/369, is this OK?
Also, as you know, new VGA Silencer are out, what one should I use for the card? 9800Pro model (ATI VGA Silencer 1) or 9800XT model (ATI VGA Silencer 3), I think I should use the Pro's one, but I want someone can confirm it...
Very very thanks in advance and please excuse my english.

    Tony, I disagree...
      Take a look:
      According to MSI´s site (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=576):
"• Capture pictures and video at up to 30 frames per second."
And according to VIA´s site (http://www.viatech.com/en/multimedia/vt1623.jsp):
      "Input Format
Supports digital RGB (15/16 or 24-bit) or YCrCb (CCIR601 or CCIR656) 16 bit 4:2:2 input video data in both interlaced and non-interlaced formats".
So, I think that´s it´s only a driver´s matter. The board IS capable of capturing video...
Have you changed your mind yet???

  • FX5900XT OR FX5900 (in disguise)?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two cards.  I have an MSI FX5900XT-VTD 128MB clocked at 390MHz (core) and 700MHz (mem), however I have looked up the memory product code on the hynix web site and found that it is in fact 400MHz memory (800MHz effective) not 350MHz (700MHz effective) as sugested by the default settings.
The standard MSI FX5900 (non XT and non ultra) runs at 400MHz (core) and 800MHz (mem).
So what is the diffrence?  Ok, the core of the std. FX5900 is 10MHz faster but that is a negligable difference so I suspect it has simply been under clocked in the bios. And the memory is set at a default of 700MHz but it is actualy 800MHz memory.  So the GPU is the same and so is the memory, is there some less obvious distinction between the two that I am unaware of and if so does anyone know what exactly the differences are?  I know some manufacturers use 2.8ns memory on their FX5900XT boards but the MSI board is using 2.5ns memory.  Is this card just the old MSI FX5900-VTD 128MB soft modded to FX5900XT specifications, and if so is there any way (safe way) that I can take advantage of the extra potential.
If any one has any sugestions can you post them here and/or email me at [email protected]
    Thank You,
    Owen

The FX5900 runs at 425MHz (850MHz effective) memory and 400MHz core.
Your card can probably be run at 800 memory and 400 core very easaly, chances are it will go higher.
bldaemon, I dont know what this has to do with this thread, but apperantly you should remove MSI lockbox software.
