FX5950 Ultra-VTD256 + 3d!Turbo = ?

Does the MSI FX5950 Ultra-VTD256 have support for the fan and whatnot monitoring in 3d!Turbo experience?  I've tried using the latest MSI drivers (52.14... 53.03 it says are not for this model) and am using the latest 3d!Turbo experience program but no dice.  Any ideas, or is this simply not going to work?  TIA.

Doh, according to that spreadsheet it doesn't.

  • FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 or my motherboard? Please, help-me.

    The problem
When i'm in a game which uses a lot of graphic power, like FarCry/NFS Underground/Ground Control II, with AGP 8x on, after a 30-40 minutes of playing, the game shows some graphics corruptions and, after a couple of minutes, all my system freezes, which forces me to reset my pc.
The problem sometimes occur when I try to play videos here.
What 'ive already done to try to solve the problem
    Reinstalled my system
Installed the newest nVidia driver (61.77)
Installed Directx9c (the problem occurs with a and b versions too)
    Upgraded my agp driver
Set up the voltage of the AGP slot to 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7
    Some observations
This problem do not occurs when i set the agp to 4x
Even if I make my card works hard with a game like FarCry, the temperature stays at 60ºC
My CPU temperature in these conditions is 58ºC
The ambient temperature in these conditions is 38-40ºC
I have three 80mm fans helping with the ambient cooling
Using the system running videos or anything else but 3D applications is ok
    My system
    Pentium IV 2ghz
Motherboard ASUS P4S8X-X (SiS chipset) w/ lastest BIOS

    The dilema
Should I take another card from my dealer or should I buy another motherboard for my PC, since everybody says that SiS sucks and i'm really concerned about this chipset?
If I should change my motherboard, which one would you recommend to me? It can't be too expensive.
P.S.: Sorry about my poor English. I'm Brazilian.
Thank you for you advices in advance.

    To sticks
Yeah, i've already done this. Those are the first this that i paid attention when I was installing the new PSU. And all motherboard drivers are properly installed.
Now, I'm almost catching a brand new motherboard, as I'm hating this one i have roght now with the SiS chipset. The model i'm buying now is a Asus P4P800 Deluxe.
1- Is it really a good buy?
2- In Asus website they say that this motherboard have support for DDR400. Taking this as a fact, will it support my both 512mb DDR266 memories, or just a DDR400 memory?
3- Thank you for all advices you're giving to me.
    C'ya.

  • MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 System freeze in fullscreen 3D games

    Greetings everyone
I changed from a MSI GF4 Ti4200 to a MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256 about two months ago and since then I have the following problem:
During any 3D game I have tested so far (which are a very few, I admit... too little time available) and after about 10 secs to 10 minutes of the game running in fullscreen, the system freezes completely (no mouse movement, no alt-tab, no soft reset) while the sound goes on looping. Games I have tested include UT2003, Star Wars Racer, Syberia. System also freezes during any version of 3DMark.
Strangely enough, I never had a problem with UT. No problem also with any game in windowed mode (where available), for instance played UT2003 in windowed mode for about an hour, then switched to fullscreen, then system freeze after about one minute. Furthermore, no prob in any 3D app (3DS, ...) or while developing 3D (OpenGL).
I have tried each and every available VGA driver, either from MSI or straight from nVidia. No change at all except with the 52.16 drivers using which the system still freezes but does not remain frozen, instead, after about two minutes a BSOD comes up announcing that...
"A problem has been detected ...
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp.
If this is the first time ...
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates
problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the
    hardware incorrectly.
Please check with your hardware device vendor for ...
    Technical information:
    *** STOP: 0x000000EA (0xFF0B5020, 0xFF6CB810, 0xFF597198, 0x00000001)
    nv4_disp"
Same behaviour with the card severely underclocked through the MSI Timings control panel tab.
    Other things I have done:
    - Changed aperture size to various values: No change
    - Reinstalled nForce2 drivers: No change
    - Uninstalled and cleaned (Driver Cleaner) sound drivers, disabled SB: No change
    - Disabled onboard audio and LAN: No change
    - Tried all possible device driver setting for AA, filtering, rez, others: No change
    - Checked memory (memtest86+): No errors
Another issue with the card that might be of use mentioning here is that the 3D!Turbo Experience app does not display Temperature, Voltage and Frequency: The respective displays are dimmed and controls are grayed.
Thanx in advance for ANY help / suggestions / similar experiences
    Jorge

    Greetings my good mates.
GlennVidia, a great and professional post about parametric differences! Finalreminder thanx a great lot for the versions and info! It seems that 3D!Turbo Experience does not work with 5950U eventhough it bundles with it. On my mobo the "Version 1" tag is under the VGA so this is probable why you can't see it (needless to say that I am not suggesting that I want you to remove your VGA just to give me this not-so-important info ).
    Here's what happened last night.
I finally decided that I could no longer avoid what I've been avoiding since the very beginning, that is, mess with my other desktop, a Linux box with a Shuttle AK32 mobo, an Athlon XP 1800+, 256 of noname DDR and various other stuff. Another reason I didn't transfer the card to the AK32 mobo at the first instant is that I had always considered the AK32 an inappropriate testbed for the 5950. However, I felt I was in desperate need to check the 5950 on another mobo. So I set up the system above with very conservative bios settings and crap memory timing, the 5950, the Heroichi 450w psu, neither chassis nor chipset fan, and then installed WinXP Pro, SP1, DX9.0b, Hyperion 14.45 and MSI VGA 56.63.
The 5950 was running at AGP 4x, CPU at 50-52C idle, system 27C idle, voltages a little low (for instance, 11.75 for the 12+), however:
    - 3DMark 2003 completes at first run (first time I was able to see the entire test).
    - 3DMark 2001 completes at first run.
    - UT2003 does not freeze no matter how long it runs (and I am talking extreme settings for AA, details, resolution, etc).
    - Both 3DMarks keep running countless times or in loop mode without freezing.
I understand that the AGP 4x makes a huge difference on the communication between the mobo and the VGA. However, I doubt that the problem will go away on the K7N2 if I set it to AGP 4x (which I am not willing to do anyway). There are yet many tests to be done (new K7N2 bios, etc), however this is the first optimistic result I have got since three weeks now and I am quite happy about it. I might be wrong, but now I am almost 100% certain that the 5950 is not faulty.
Furthermore: On a K7N2, Finalreminder had the exact same problem as me with 3DMark 2003, that is, freezing during CPU tests (mine would also always freeze during the CPU tests and nowhere else). I think this rules out the chance of a HW fault on my mobo only.
Another pattern I have isolated is that better cooling has solved most (if not all) of Finalreminer's problems and quite a few of mine (at the beginning, 3DMark 2001 would freeze during the first run and UT2003 after a few minutes), and this too is common in both cases, Finalreminder's and mine. However, in my case, the freezing is still there even in extremely low temperature cases. To rule out the chance that temperatures go high during fullscreen 3D, I used Motherboard Monitor to log temps and voltages. Right now the log file is on a non-attached disk so I can't upload it and give you the url (I'll do that), but I can tell you that the temps and voltages are great during an entire 3DMark that ended-up freezing: CPU goes to max 58C, system to max 37C.
I think that the only hypothesis that may still stand is that MSI K7N2 Delta and MSI 5950U VTD-256 is, sometimes, a bad combination, no matter how ridiculous this may sound.
By no means am I suggesting that this is MSI's fault! As GlennVidia has explained in his latest great post about parametric differences and as my basic knowledge of electronics enables me to understand (I am a radio amateur), these are things that happen and cannot be predicted. I trust MSI and will keep trusting it.
To solve my issue, after some more testing, I am most probably going for a new mobo. I am open to suggestions and wondering if it would be a good idea to start a new thread about WORKING combinations of MSI 5950U-VTD256 and various mobos. This forum has been far too helpful for me to go out and buy something without getting feedback first .

hi all i am having a problem with my video card(fx-5950 ultra)the thing is that sundenly and without any error shown my pc stoped respoding and so i reboot but it would not reboot because i couldn't see anything,i can't go in the bios absolutely nothing. My pc works like the usual pc but i cant see anything. :wall:Here is the crazy thing that i noticed my fans of the agp stop working so i place my video card in to another pc and it works fine.So what am i dealing what?sorry for my but english,i bought it 6 months ago with out any problems.
My specs PS Antec true control 550wt

    2X512 kingston value ram
    120 wd hard disk
    Windows Xp sp2
    Msi-Fx5950 Ultra 256

Hi again! I forgot to tell u that i tried ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 128 into my pc. The fun of that card was working but i cant see anything again. On the other hand, i also think that the AGP slot is toasted, but i dont understand if that factor influences the power for the VGA. Because , as i told u my card's fun would nt work, but the other card's (RADEON) fun worked and i got the same result on screen with both cards . Totally black! The computer works fine ( there is a sound) but the screen iis black... I sould also add that i do not have any beepsss... So it is a motherboard's fault???  (MSI KT6Delta Series with an AMD 2600)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need your views FX5950 Ultra 256mb

I'm after any info on the MSI FX5950 Ultra, is anyone using this card and can it be overclocked if yes by how much?
Is this card any better or worse than the old FX5900 Ultra?
This card is cheaper than the FX5900 Ultra and I might just be able to purchase one if there ok.

    Hi Deathstalker and Bonz
I wonder how much more they will drop in price and over what time span, I can just about scrap the money up together for this card if I wait to long the money will be spent on more important things, then I will be stuck with the TI4200-TD128 for a long time.
The reason for running the Sound Blaster 5.1 is the use of the games port for the game pad. I don't get on with the keyboard so good, I never realised when I bought the mainboard that it had no built-in games port and of course I don't think I can use the front head phones jack on the case without running the onboard Soundstorm so I lose out either way.
    Thanks

  • Forceware (nvidia original) driver issues in FX5950 ultra

Hi guys, well, here I am again wondering if there is a bios update for my card (msi geforcefx 5950 ultra), cause since drivers 61.72 nvidia forceware, my OS is giving that old bad blue screen on windows xp sp2 startup. In fact, since driver forceware 61.72 I could only use the msi 72.12 driver, all other drivers that was released since 61.72 from nvidia site is crashing my os, and most of the msi site too
Well now the newest forceware driver 71.89, is doing that bad blue screen too.
So is there any bios upgrade for my video card, i dont use the msi update software cause i preffer to flash by floppdisk. And the msi site seems to only offer motherboard bios to flash.
Hmm I dont think it is a virus prolem, I use Kaspersky antivirus, best there is, and already formated system and installed all over again. No results.

A BIOS upgrade would have zero effect, unless you have solid information supporting it.
The problem is most likely that the newer generation drivers are aimed specifically towards the newer cards on the market. Sometimes support for older cards is compromised in the process.
I suggest staying with the drivers that work best with your card and OS.
There is also the possibility that there are remnants of old drivers still present in your system, that are causing problems as well.
Have you used Driver Cleaner for each driver you tried?
MSI does not supply BIOS updates for VGA cards other than in Live Update. But that is a big risk, since sometimes Live Update causes problems with VGA BIOS updates. You could at least see if there is a BIOs update by installing and running the Live Update Software just to see. Then the decision is yours to make. If it did make any difference, that would be a first in my experience. If you decide to do anything, make sure you back up your current BIOS as we can't get BIOS for you. You are on your own.
I think mostly it is a combination of driver and perhaps your OS health.
Unless you absolutely need the latest driver (such as a game or app that specifically calls for a version) then there is no reason to update your driver.

  • MSI FX5900 Ultra VTD256

After using the Radeon 9700 Pro for the last year I have decided to upgrade to the above.
It arrived today and all I've had is problems.
I updated al my drivers for my Chipset (Intel 860series), I uninstalled all drivers for the ATI Product.
I removed the old card and inserted the new card. On booting it found the new VGA Controller and started to install the software as per the manual.
After installation it rebooted and it was unable to boot, just came up with a blue screen for a millisecond, th all i could do to boot was use last know configuration (which does not include the Fx Drivers).
I have removed all devices from the PC just Keyboard and Mouse and installed again and still the same problem.
    Help: ;(

First Answer: yes Powered up no problems there,
    PC: Compaq Evo w6ooo Workstation
Power Supply: PFC 450watt Dual Voltage
    Windows XP, SP1
    2 x INTEL XEON 2.4GHZ PROCESSOR WITH 512KB L2 CACHE
INTEL 860 CHIPSET WITH 400MHZ FSB
    2Gb ECC PC800 RDRAM
    40GB ULTRA160 10K RPM HARD DRIVE
    4.7Gb DVD+RW
    40x/12x/40x CD-RW
INTEGRATED ULTRA160 SCSI AND ULTRA ATA/100 CONTROLLERS
INTEGRATED INTEL PRO/100+ MANAGEMENT ADAPTER WITH WOL AND AOL
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1
Basically I should have no problems with this card, I think it must be the drivers.
Like I said I can install them but as soon as I power down or rebbot I loose them

  • MSI FX5950 Ultra VTD-256mb D.O.T help needed

    Hi All
The problem I have is that when I use D.O.T and the Commander setting on my card I get artefacts in 3DMARK03 turn it off and they go.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how to stop the problem?
    Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the DOT commander setting overclocks the core and memory  clock by 15% when the video card is under load... I would guess the automatic overclocking is going a bit too far, overclocking the card beyond its overclocking limits (that would cause artifacts to pop up here and there). You could either set the DOT to a less aggressive setting ( I think its GENERAL or something like that), or you could overclock manually to really see where your cards limits are.

  • TV@nywhere problems

I can call my self at lest advance user
I bought the first TV tuner (Ms 8876) last year and have only problems I have been playing around with this and trying all kinds of different things it works after it is installed as the one of the  first things on new system (if you install the patch) accept after patch no stereo sound. If you install other video viewing or editing software it crash at start or won’t shutdown at all, and the only way is to reformat your hard drive and start from point 0 to make it work again
I have internet on TV cable to work with TV tuner I have to install separately cable just from my main box (35 feet long) to prevent all the noise in the tuner screen
I thought the tuner has some problem with operating system and the issue will be fixed soon
Wait for so long and nothing happen so decide to buy the new (8606) my surprise was it didn’t work as I was expecting. This time I return the product and try ASUS with (video/audio decoder – PHILIPS SAA7134HL) it work great no problems at all
I decide to make last thing with the MSI TV tuner card give a hummer to my kid and tell him to try fixing it
I really enjoy that moment after all my frustration and spending hours to resolve the problems
I recommend to all of you to do the same; $70 CAN is not worth all your time and headache.
I don’t have anything against MSI product. I use the motherboards and video cards every day
And put it on the quality level with Asus as two company of my first choice.
I’m wonder why the support from MSI is so quiet with the tuner problems. It looks like they going down, maybe I should consider stop build the system base on theirs products
I tried making it work on my two home systems with on luck
First with Windows98se 512Mb then upgrade to Windows XP Pro.
    MSI GNB Max (MS-6565 v2.0) Intel® Granite Bay 2705

    P4 3.0 MHz z  800 fsb
    4 x DDR 512MB 400MHz TOTAL= 2GB
All software with most recent updates

I didn't have any problem with getting the tv channels to work(on Win XP). I didn't change any jumper setting at all.
I live in canada, so it should be similar to the USA.
