FYI: Flash BIOS without using a floppy! Use a bootable CD-ROM!

My K8N Neo2 Platinum is still dead as a doornail but at least I found this.
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
I was able to make a bootable CD-ROM containing the latest BIOS and flash it without using those pesky floppy drives/disks. Whole process took like 5 mins. I don't know who Bart is but hats off to him in a huge way!
Hope this helps someone!

No, im serious. I have 4 computers here and a ton of floppys, my camera uses floppies so im using them alot "when they work" but these damn things are terrible.
I can have one disk work on all 4 pc's, bring it to another place not work at all,  have another not work on all my computers but work somewhere else. All different brands of floppies all different brand of Floppy drives. I have a better chance winning the lottery then getting this floppys to work right. LOL

  • Flashing BIOS without floppy?

Recently, I've flashed my 875P BIOS from 1.7 to 1.8 & am unhappy with the performance from the new BIOS. I would like to reflash it back to 1.7, but my floppy drive is no longer working properly & will not read data correctly from floppy disks. Is there a safe way to flash BIOS without using a floppy disk, such as through Windows? I've looked at LiveUpdate 3, but it only shows the current BIOS 1.8 that I can update from. Replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for the quick reply, DOS. I've figured out another way by putting the three files from LiveUpdate(MSISetup, AMIFlh, IftwInst.Tag) & 1.7 BIOS file together in a folder & flashed in Windows from there by clicking on MSISetup. The three files mentioned are always included during the LiveUpdate download along with a BIOS file for whatever version. Just make sure to remove the BIOS file you don't want & put in the one you do want along with the three files mentioned. Honestly, I held my breath during the flash process, but I'm glad it went okay without a hitch. So, for those who feel comfortable flashing in Windows(or DOS, since you have a choice during the flash process) to whatever BIOS version, this is an easy way of doing it. I don't know if this is good enough for a sticky since I know others are looking for ways of flashing there BIOS. Good luck!  :D

  • How can i flash bios without floppy drive

i need help with flashing bios without a floppy because although the floppy is in windows and the bios every time i try to use it, it says to insert a disc i have seek floopy enabled and it post as if it is ok the drive works i have tried 2 drives 2 cables and turned the cables round tried all i can i think lol ....
    thanks guys

it can also be done using a CD-rom. I flashed my BIOS twice using cd-rom. Use Nero or any cd-writing program to write the bios files you download to a CD. Afterwards, just use the Windows 98 installation cd to boot into DOS, then take out the Windows 98 CD and put in the CD with the BIOS files on it and run the program just like from a floppy.

  • Embed flash file without using IFrame UI

    Hi all,
Can any one tell me how i can embed flash file without using IFrame UI ?

    Hi
To run a flash file you will definetely need a platform for which you need a shockwave player or a simple browser window. From webdynpro, the purpose of making it run through a IFrame is at runtime, the frame acts as a window for the flash file to run. Hence its the direct option of running it. Otherwise, you need to use a external window to invoke it seperetely in a browser window to run the file.
If you have any specific issues, do let us know, or else its the best option @!
    thanks

  • Flashing BIOS without Floppy drive

I have a Pavilion zt1185 running windows xp pro which doesn't have a floppy drive.  I'm am trying to flash the bios is there a way this could be done without getting a floppy drive. I have tried using the usb but will not lookup usb on startup.

    Hi:
As far as I know, regarding a notebook of that vintage you will need a floppy drive to update the BIOS.
More than likely a USB floppy drive will work.

  • Flashing BIOS (not using liveupdate)

hi, i wanna flash my BIOS, but my question is after downloading the BIOS update zip and burning that to a cd..
can i use a cd to flash a BIOS?
or can i used a USB thumbdrive to flash BIOS?
i dont have a floppy drive anymore...
i have read that my board K8NGM-V supports booting up in the USB.. is that the same for flashing a BIOS?

if your system is stabile then you no need to flashed it as it may causes instability of your system.. I would preferable used the cd or floppy to flash it. BTW create your own rig in details including PSU and bios revision so others can help you. Gd luck.
P/s: why must you flashed your bios? is it stabile?

  • How do close a Flash player without using a close button?

Can you tell me how to launch a Flash video after/as the home
page loads and then make the player disappear after the video has
finished playing without using a close button?
Here’s an example where the player remains after the
    video has played. -

Do you have any design (positioning) suggestions on how to
    accomplish this task?

Once the video is complete, you could make a call to a
javascript function that hides the div container of the Flash
Object using ExternalInterface. If you are using FLVPlayback
component, create a listener for its complete event. If you are
using NetStream/NetConnect, listen for the Buffer.Play.Stop status

  • How can I update the BIOS without using a CD?

    Hello!
I have recently decided to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB. After installing, I booted up my computer to find that it would not recognize the new memory. After doing a bit of troubleshooting, I decided to try and update the BIOS, as the version was from 2010. I downloaded the BIOS update boot CD application from lenovo, burned a disc, and on reboot I found that the boot order did not have CD listed on it. Here's the catch: I don't have the supervisor password. This is a hand-me-down laptop, and I have tried to find the password to no avail. This is the current boot order: USB drive, Hard drive.
My question is, can I either create a BIOS update disc using a USB, or update the BIOS some other way?
I understand that it is impossible to recover the supervisor password without having it serviced (which I would rather not do, even if I have to send my RAM back to Crucial)
    My system specs:
    Thinkpad L512
    Bios version: 1.04
    Bios date: 2010-3-26
    Embeded Controller Version: 1.01
    Windows 7 32 bit
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Two things here:
    a) If you run System Update, it should offer the latest BIOS for your machine as well. I've never done it on a passworded unit, so it might or might not work but might be worth a shot.
    b) I doubt that the ability of the system to recognize new RAM has anything to do with the BIOS. ThinkPads much older than yours will run 4-8GB RAM with an old BIOS, older than your machine to begin with.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • Updating bios without using windows

I have aquired a bios virus that is not letting me boot anything that has to do with windows. I have been able to use a linux live cd to use the computer so im guessing there is no hardware problems.
I have tried using  a usb flash drive with dos to re install the bios but it seems the file that hp provides only works with windows.
Wondering if any one can help me out wih this
This is the bios file i used http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-98494-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    laptop is a dv7-2014tx

    Hi naturebread,
    What operating system?
Are you positive the virus is BIOS resident? It may be a boot sector virus. Can you enter BIOS? Try resetting BIOS to defaults if you can enter setup. Have you tried any type of recovery on the system: HP Factory Recovery, MS restore or repair, or MS Backup and Recovery?
Please see this forum post on flashing the BIOS. Make sure you have the correct BIOS when attempting this procedure.
I have not tried this so I cannot verify. You would have to create a bootable USB drive or use an external FDD.
Also, please carefully read the entire above referenced post.

  • Is it possible to embed JavaScript functions into a Flash file (AS 3.0) and call within flash itself, without using the external .js file

    Scenario:
I have a text area in flash. The user will copy paste any JavaScript  function in the text area and click execute button. The JavaScript function pasted in the text area should be executed with in the flash itself and the return value will be shown in another text field.

  • Is it possible to install Flash extension without using the Extensions Manager?

I am so frustrated with Aodbe releasing new versions incompatible with older versions! I work with Flash CS3. There are many good reasons why I cannot and don't want to upgrade. I have recently updated to Mountain Lion. Everything is good except that the extensions manager 1.8 (CS3) doesn't work on Mountain Lion - it crashes. But all the newer Extensions Managers don't see any older versions of Flash. So basically I cannot install any of the extensions, which are essential to my work!
I am thinking going back to Snow Leopard because of this ridiculous issue. Unless there is any other way to install extensions into Flash CS3...

I am not sure whether the root cause for EM CS3 crashes is the same as EM CS5/5.5 on Mac 10.8. If the root cause is the same and you have installed InDesign CS3 and don't need install extensions for it, you can rename XManConfig.xml under InDesign folder to anything, then EM will not try to import pre-installed extensions for InDesign, EM should start up correctly. If you have to install extension for InDesign, you can remove all pre-installed extensions of InDesign, which should be located in "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version XXX/<Locale>/Extensions" (I haven't installed InDesign CS3, so the folder may be a little different).

  • Flash BIOS without MSWINDOWS

I want/need to flash the BIOS on a HP 2000-210US. HP will not help because I do not use an MSWINDOWS O.S. How do I go about the "flash" without HP support? Also, if I may, I'm having a problem with booting from either the pendrive or CD. I know how to set BIOS to boot from either device, both devices are "bootable", yet laptop will not boot with/from either device. I've been trying to find an answer/fix to this for quite some time. • Flashing BIOS Without Windows

This really should have been covered on the main download page for the BIOS update. I'm trying to update my BIOS on a Yoga 2 Pro but alas Lenovo has made BIOS updates OS dependant. Here I am used to just going to the BIOS putting the .img file on a usb stick and select flash. That would be too easy and I'm sure confused alot of Windows users. The problem I am having first of all is I cannot find a changelog file. Why would I want to flash something that I have no idea what it does? I need to know what I'm flashing first. The second problem is I cannot even extract the downloaded .exe file, its not a .cab, .zip or .rar. If I could extract it, all I should need to do is make a bootable usb with the .img file right? Anyone in Lenovo support whatching this thread?

Answering my own question here but here is a solution. Download this Windows 8.1 live usb/cd:

I'm using a Yoga 2 Pro and it was kind of picky how the usb was "burned" was unable to use dd and or suse studio image writer had to use rufus on a windows box choosing gpt for uefi with 4096 block size. Then I just ran the exe. Something Lenovo tech support should know about.

  • Flashing BIOS without a compatible CPU

    Hi there,
I have no idea where to find an answer for this as I've seen all sorts of conflicting information out there. I want to know, if I get an H81M-P33 motherboard and a g3258, will I need to use a compatible older-gen CPU to update the BIOS and make the board compatible with the g3258, or can I use MFlash or the forum BIOS flashing utility to update the BIOS from a USB with no compatible CPU installed? Also, as a side note, I noticed in another thread someone was saying that Intel released firmware in August that would make it difficult or impossible to overclock the G3258 on non-Z series motherboards. I did also see that Tom's Hardware article where they successfully used the H81M-P33 to overclock it back in July when it was released. Am I running a large risk of it not working even after I update to the latest BIOS, or is it still possible?
Thanks for your help, I really hope I've posted in the right place.

Okay, thank you very much! Most of the threads I found when searching were from really long ago on all these different sites, so I wasn't sure if something had changed. I appreciate your quick response and I'll look into it further before I make a purchase.
