FYI Limited forum functionality on IE 7.0

This is probably a mostly irrelevant data point. However, my computer at work only has IE 7.0 on it. I can make new posts but not reply to existing posts. There is a notice at the bottom of the page "Error on Page". This may also be in some way related to the corporate firewill or security settings. However, the old version of the forums worked fine.
I understand that supporting an old version of a browser is not at all high on the priority list (nor should it be). I just thought I'd offer the data point in case it was in some way useful.
As my company supports some Apple products, it is useful for me to have forum access but it's not essential. It's certainly not essential enough to put in a request for a computer update. Oh well, maybe I'l get more work done.

This is definitely going to be an issue. I was able to use ie7 a bit today, but now I too get the error on page. Had to use the iPad to type is.
This is an issue because most companies don't jump onto the next iteration of ms ie. We always stay at least one version behind. Upgrading to 8 is not an option in most companies if their upgrade path isn't there yet. As more and more companies support iPhones and iPads this will cause some bad feelings about support quality.
This and the iOS issue should have been found and fixed prior to release. In my opinion. Very disappointed.

Oracle limitation? function created using "or replace" clause

How I can know if function is created using "or replace" clause?
I mean we can use "create function xxx" or "create or replace function xxx" to create function.
when we check all_source (select text from all_source) to get the function body. The "or replace" clause is missing. Both are like "Function xxx".
We are asked to be able to identify if the function create using "create" or "create or replace".
what we should do? Is this Oracle limitation?

That only works if nothing other than create create/replace happens tot he function over time. consider:

Most of these limitations listed are indeed true.
Not all though, like not being able to set MP3 ringtones (You can using Zune) or that the wifi sleeps when the screen goes off (=true) so that downloads are broken off (= not true, as the wifi is then kept alive untill the download finishes), music player staying on lock screen (can be turned off in settings).
Also some of these limitations are also applicable to various Symbian models itself. (Need to buy 3rd party app to block calls, was free in older Symbian phones. And also on Symbian MMS requires data, it just has the option to automatically swithch it on.).
But that is not the point I want to make.
The point is more, that if you take iPhone, you can easily make a similar list.
And even Android doesn't have all the features that Symbian had.
And last, I can also make a long list of Windows Phone features, that Symbian doesn't have.
So it all depends what you expect from a phone.
Also since Symbian is end-of-life, there are in essence 3 options (or 4 if you count that Canadian company) left. If you want full tweakability Android may be more of your liking, but rest asure that also has its issues.

Limited Export Functionality in PSE 7

Hello Everyone:
I just recently purchased PSE 7 to take advantage of its wide array of capabilities to organize my thousands of photos. I have been really impressed with its many features and started my foray into using the software by organizing an album.
What has disappointed me are the sharing features in this software. I elected to create an online album for my photos. I wanted my slideshow to display my captions and I'm finding that many of the templates are simply inadequate - they tend to truncate the captions due to length. It appears that I cannot create my own templates either.
Another feature lacking is the ability to create a simple web page using HTML only that shows my photos. Why does this capability not exist? I realize that Flash movies tends to make very lively and enriched slide shows but this isn't always optimal when displaying many photos on a web site.
Any insight you could give would be useful as I'm still learning the software.

Several versions ago, PSE used to provide simple HTML templates you could edit. But they were removed in favor of the flashier but more limited Flash templates.
A lot of people aren't very satisfied with the current capabilities. The templates are eye candy but don't provide desirable features or customization; Photshop.com is sluggish and has lots of problems; etc. Many users seem to restort to the following solutions:
- Export your photos to another service like Flickr, Smugmug, etc. for quick and easy Web sharing.
- Use a third-party slideshow authoring program like Pro Show Gold, which a number of users here have said they use (JAlbum is a free alternative).

Internet Loss and Limited Windows Functionality After Windows 7 Clean Install

Hello all,
here is a bit of context. I had an extra Lenovo T410 sitting around so I wanted to restore it to its "factory state" by performing a "format boot". Plan was to boot from CD drive and reinstall Windows 7 (32 bit) during the process. However, disaster, after the process finished I am now stuck in some sort of safe mode (everything is larger than usual) and the computer is missing several drivers. I installed the network adapter driver manually (can identify networks but can't connect to internet). Device manager still lists Base System Device, Ethernet Controller, PCI Serial Port, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and Unknown Device drivers to be out of date.
My objectives here are to 1) restore connectivity to internet and 2) get Windows 7 Home Premium to full functionality.

I guessed he doesn't have that option, as he said one of the missing drivers is the ethernet controller.

Lumina 920 Limited Bluetooth functionality with 20...

I've recently acquired a Lumina 920 with Windows Phone 8. I can pair the phone with the car (or car with phone) just fine. I can also make and receive calls, but the phonebook will not sync with the car. This is a deal breaker for me, as I've had multiple IPhone/Android phones that handle this seemingly common operation without any trouble at all.
As an experiment, I paired this phone with another car, and the phone book DOES sync. What I get is a message appears on the phone asking for permission to share contacts. This does not happen with my car, however.
I've poked around the settings, but can't seem to find anything that influences this behavior one way or another.
Any ideas?

Windows 8.1 Problem - Blank Screen after Login but Cursor Works and Limited Functionality

I have a Sony Vaio All in One Touch Screen. It is running Windows 8.1 and today I can't get to the Desktop or see the normal windows Metro interface. I get a black screen and I can move the cursor around, using various keys I can get Task Manager and
Explorer and some limited help functions up, but not the standard Windows Desktop or Metro interface. Any thoughts?

The situation you descripted should be related to a service or software conflict, as well as a hardware driver problem, to confirm this, try to boot your computer in safe mode, Safe mode Starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services:

if the problem disappear, indeed, this should be caused by a service a hardware driver, you can log on in normal mode and perform a clean boot to fix this:
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
2. Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig.

If the problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services as possible causes, you shoud turn to the computer vendor where you purchased the computer for harware support.

Forum-specific search functions don't work

The search function on this site doesn't seem to work properly. If I try to do a search on a specific forum via the 'Only this forum" function on the right side of the page (which doesn't seem to appear on every forum) or by selecting 'More options' from the search page, I get 0 results. Example - If I search the 'Photoshop' forums specifically, and enter 'Photoshop' into the search criteria, there are no results. I get the same results entering 'Acrobat' into the Acrobat forum, and on any other forum I have tried. It doesn't matter what I type into the criteria, I get 0 results. This happens both on a mac running Safari, as well as on my PC running IE.

It's not a problem on your system - it's well known here.
There's an almost perpetual "we're working to try to fix the search" response from the admins. It's clear they're knocking themselves out to try to make this forum better, but the technical challenges against them just must be horrendous.

Whenever I come directly to the discussion boards by typing in discussions.apple.com in Safari (1.3.2) address bar OR typing support.apple.com and then clicking the discussions link (in the purple bar) I'm greeted as guest. I click login and Safari helpfully fills in the details then several things happen (no pattern found yet).
1. I'm prompted for my login again and told the user name or password was wrong. It will then accept the next autofill by Safari. Forums function normally.
2. It greets me "Welcome Marlinespike" in the sidebar and prompts me to login again. Clicking any other link (e.g. My Questions, or iTunes) takes me to the forums and I'm not prompted again. Forums function normally.
3. It greets me "Welcome Marlinespike" in the sidebar and says "you only have read (or was it guest?) privileges and presents me with a page to create an account. Ditto 2 in that I can click anywhere and bypass the "please make an account".
The problem occurs every time I navigate to the forums home. If I leave SAfari running but close all windows, it'll happen.
I don't know if this is related to recently getting Safari 1.3.2. My Safari was 1.2 until last week. This login issue has only started for me in the past week. Also, I can click a link in the forums and will get a 404 not found error, but if I refresh the page (CMD-R), I get it.

FYI, since downgrading my OS back to X.3.8 and Safari to 1.2 I've not had any login difficulties yesterday or today. Also have not had any threads "not found" to be found upon refreshing. Perhaps there's some weird java thing going on with the forum logins that affects SAfari 1.3?

MARK... whilst the definition of the function shows a return type, the return statement inside the function simply returns, without a value. That's because the data is passed back through a special "pipeline", and you can write code to show that the data is available to a query as soon as it's piped, and before the function has completed (reached the return statement) if you like.
A procedure does not return a value (And no an OUT parameter is not a "returned" value, it's a writeable parameter, there's a difference)
2. There are some limitations in functions which is possbl through procedures.
Like - Oracle doesn't support DML in functions called in Select queries (using PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION will help).Not strictly true. and SQL query is considered to be DML, so a function could perform a query and then be used inside another query...

Double Standards on these forums!

I have noticed that in these forums any links to product advertisement is considered to be a spam but some products promotion are allowed. Is there any guidance anywhere for people to read them to avoid any problems? For example this particular link is clearly a promotion but nobody has removed it:

Links to commercial sites/suppliers are a touchy situation, and it can be tough for a MOD to determine what is spam, and what is a useful and germane inclusion.
I often add links to commercial, or 3rd party sites, but ALWAYS try to point out that something is shareware, freeware, of other. I also make 100% sure that any commercial link is highly germane and hopefully helpful, in solving a problem.
The actions, an interpretationsn by MOD's, will differ, forum to forum, and MOD to MOD.
As a "for instance," it is fairly common for users to recommend a non-Adobe product for DVD authoring in the Premiere Elements forum. While PrE offers limited authoring functions to DVD-Video, or BD, it IS very limited, and there are some programs, from another source, that do a more complete job with regard to authoring. Adobe has never had an issue with such recs. and links, which speaks well of Adobe, in my book. In the end, the user still uses PrE for editing, and then another program for the last step in the process - they are able to then do much more. The MOD there has even published a book on using one of the oft-recommended programs.
So, it just depends, and probably should be viewed on a case-by-case basis.

HTTP error [403] in "Add Forums Administrator User"-iView (Forum)

Hi All,
I need help with installing the forum functionality.
When I open the "Add Forums Administrator User"-iView I always get the following error message:
403 Forbidden
You are not authorized to view the requested resource.
In the log-file I found the following message:
User tfelp4, IP address
HTTP request processing failed. HTTP error [403] will be returned. The error is [You are not authorized to view the requested resource.No details available].
I must say that my useraccount has Superadmin-Permissions...
The "Forum"-iView works without problems, but there are no forum catagories, cause they must be installed for using.
Hope someone can help me

thanks for your reply. What does it mean "The actuall permissions must be given on the WEBAS"? In my understanding the Userprofiles and the assignment of permissions to a profiles are stored in the UME. In my mind I can do that within the portal environment.

Calling Spatial functions in xs application on multiple records

I have a table "location" with a column of type
ST_GEOMETRY(4326)
I am aware of the limitation that function like shape.st_distance can not be called in Stored Procedures
and can be called from xsjs
Now I have list of items with their locations attributes (ST_GEOMETRY).I need to find distance of these items from a constant point (e.g. center of Newyork)
I can understand that I can iterate through all the items one by one in XSJS and fire Select query using the function.
But this looks to be very costly in case list is huge.
Is there any other better way to handle the case
