FYI: Updated version of TechTool Deluxe 3.1.2 available for AppleCare users

Just a heads-up that Micromat has recently released an update to TechTool Deluxe, the disk and system utility that comes bundled when you purchase an AppleCare protection plan for Macs. This update requires that you have a previous 3.x version installed on you HD and can be [downloaded right here|http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=199&Item id=104].
Cheers!

Does this update apply to me as my Apple care does not expire until June 2008, and if so, should I do the update?...am always a bit scared of doing anything new.
I seem to remember once reading a warning on this forum about TT deluxe,(which is installed on my Mac') but can't now remember what it was about!
Any advice would be welcome, please. Thank you.

  • Is AppleCare's TechTool Deluxe 3.1.2 ready for Snow Leopard?

I have another year left on my AppleCare and it came with TechTool Deluxe 3.1.2. I checked the Micromat site and there is no other update.
Does anyone know if it is compatible with Snow Leopard?
    Thom

It seems the current techtool deluxe apple offer for download is also incompatible with more recent models of MackBook Pro. WHen I went to download the Techtool Deluxe from https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl I get this message:
+Note: The MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) *are not fully compatible with this version of TechTool Deluxe*. The MacBook Air is fully compatible with this version of TechTool Deluxe when used with the MacBook Air SuperDrive. Please check back later for a new version of TechTool Deluxe+
Does anyone know if this update (TechTool Deluxe 3.1.3 Updater) fixes just Snow Leopard compatibility - or hardware as well?

  • I have an app update on my phone through the app store, but i dont have that app and when i hit update it says the item is no longer available for sale,, but i cannot get rid of the little 1 at the corner of the app store app,, how can i get rid of it

i have an app update on my phone through the app store, but i dont have that app and when i hit update it says the item is no longer available for sale,, but i cannot get rid of the little 1 at the corner of the app store app,, how can i get rid of it,, i have iphone 5

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select  Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.

  • Is there a version of techtool deluxe that works under Lion?

Title says it all - wondering if there's a Techtool deluxe for Lion yet that I can get...

Yeah, that's the 'Techtool Pro' version, but up until recently anybody under applecare could get a free version of the software (still from micromat) called 'Techtool Deluxe'.  The link that used to work to download this directly from Apple (http://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/) now gives some sort of recursive link error instead :-(

  • Update available for another user's apps

I just purchased a brand new iMac & set up two users with separate usernames/passwords.  Now the app store says I have updates for apps that I don't have, nor want. These are apps that my wife downloaded under her username/profile.

You are seeing her app updates and she will see your app updates because App Store searches all the hard disk to find App Store apps.
Also, applications are installed by default on a common folder for both users (/Applications), so you can try to move the App Store applications to ~/Applications (being ~ your user folder). Doing this, the other user shouldn't be able to see app updates for your Apple ID as you can't access to one user folder from a different one

  • When will an update later than iOS 5.1.1 be available for iPad

Since most of the new apps or updates require iOS 6 or better why isn't there a more recent software update for the older iPad

This is ridiculous. They are capable of creating an OS that is capable with the new apps. The apps Im trying to download shouldnt require any of the features on the newer iPads. There is nothing wrong with the iPad I have, just a lack of support cause its a few years old. When I do upgrade my hardware, I definitely will not be giving any more money to Apple.
Also, It took me weeks to figure out why exactly i couldnt update iOS. I have emailed Apple support several times and have been instructed to update iTunes and directed to these forums. Thanks for the support....

  • FYI TechTool Deluxe & desktop choices can result in false Video RAM "fail"

If you choose to have your desktop display random pics or images, when you run TechTool Deluxe you will end up with a "fail" on your video RAM test.
    This is a false failure.
All you have to do is change your desktop to a constant image and the test will pass.
I found this out after having to reinstall my OS X and I ran TechTool Deluxe before restoring my backup and all tests passed. After restoring from backup to my desktop choice of random images changing every 5 secs, I ran TechTool Deluxe again and the test for video RAM "failed". Resetting my desktop to a constant image resulted in a "passed".

Well the apple test (on disk 1 of OSX) states that nothing is wrong. Though I will test again when the temp gets high since some people had been detecting problems.
as for 10.4.6 I downloaded it the other day.
I repaired the permissions had a couple things that it corrected (I don't know if I posting them would do any good) Out of curiousity how to permissions get incorrect? I'm so used to the windows file structure and DOS before that that i am a little confused. The last apple used alot before this macbook was an old Applee IIE.
and the TechTools still says there is an error, every time I have run the test. Though there have been some differences when I reboot or turn of and wait a second and then restart.

  • Techtool Deluxe and MacBook Pro

I see this message on the Apple Techtool download site:
Note: The Mac Pro (Early 2008), MacBook (Early 2008) and MacBook Pro (Early 2008) are not fully compatible with this version of TechTool Deluxe. The MacBook Air is fully compatible with this version of TechTool Deluxe when used with the MacBook Air SuperDrive. Please check back later for a new version of TechTool Deluxe.
Since it is not listed what exactly this means, is it still safe to use??
    Message was edited by: powerbook1701

There is always an extended delay in the updating of TechTools Deluxe for new Macs, powerbook1701. If you have a Mac that it is not shown as compatible DO NOT use TTD on it. In the past this has caused some serious problems. Out of date disk utilities generally can do a lot of harm to directory structures and the like.
You should NEVER use an old version of TTD or TTP or DiskWarrior, or Drive Genius, or even Apple's own Disk Utility, on a new computer unless the manufacturer specifically endorses it for your model and OS version
(An "Early MBP17", like the one that jw2 says he has, is a very different computer to yours. The fact that he has used it with no problems is not relevant to your situation.)
    Cheers

  • TechTool Deluxe for Leopard

As part of Applecare, I have multiple copies of TechTool Deluxe 3.0.1. I have 5 Macs, all upgraded to Leopard. When I attempt to run TechTool, it tells me that the application hasn't been validated on Leopard. It runs, of course, but the results may not be entirely useful. Micromat has TechTool Pro, which has been updated for Leopard, but there is no mention on its site or on Apple's site about a newer version of Deluxe. While I haven't had any need to use Applecare that wasn't obvious, does anyone have any idea what Apple is shipping with Applecare agreements for machines that actually come with Leopard pre-installed and, more to the point, how those of us with multiple machines might lay hands on it?
    Thanks.

I just bought a MacBook Pro last week, and received the AppleCare certificate and software in today's mail. As reported in this thread, the AppleCare protection plan software provided was TechTool Deluxe, version 3.1.1. When this app is loaded, it warns that it has not been fully tested with Mac OS X 10.5.1. The software loads anyway.
I called AppleCare to inquire about this. They said that, as long as the TechTool Deluxe product was installed from an AppleCare disk, then when Software Update runs, it checks to see if a newer version of TT Deluxe is available from MicroMat. If it is, then it is downloaded and installed just like Apple software. So, according to the guy I spoke with, a free upgrade to TT Deluxe would be made available once it is released by MicroMat. The key is to have TT Deluxe from your AppleCare disk installed on your system.
The tech support guy said that the TechTool Deluxe 3.1.1 system check is a non-destructive process. However, he warned that if TT Deluxe 3.1.1 offered to repair a problem it found (with volume structures, for example), do NOT have TT Deluxe attempt any repairs.

  • "Volume Structure Failed" in TechTool Deluxe

I tried to run Disk Utility on my laptop last night and it said that it "stopped reapiring "XXX" because the following error was encountered. The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)" It said there was an invalid catalog record type and volume check failed.
I then ran the lastest update of the TechTool Deluxe CD. Everything passed except the Volume Structure.
There were some "used nodes" and "free nodes" that differed--those numbers showed up in green as "favorable changes". "Leaf Record Count" showed up in red as an "unusual change". When I go to repair, it says that "unusual values in the volume structure have been dectected. Before repairing the volume structure, it is suggested that you back up your data. FAILURE TO BACKUP YOUR DATA MAY RESULT IN PERMANENT LOSS OF DATA!".
I do have a Retrospect Backup on my external drive, but I'm still a little nervous about clicking the "repair" button. How likely is data loss with this particular error that it's trying to repair?
I'd like to call Apple Support (I'm still under AppleCare for another week or so), but I'm not sure if they have Saturday hours.

Okay, here's what I ended up doing. I did end up calling Applecare Tech support, but mostly only to inquire about potential coverage if I needed it--since I was one week away from the expiration of Applecare. They opened a "case" for me and Applecare would remain in effect for 30 from the opening of the case. This was good news.
I tried using Disk Utility to repair the problem but it wouldn't work. I had repaired permissions and attempted to run “Check and Repair Disk”. Disk Utility said that it “stopped repairing ‘xxx’ because the following error was encountered. The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)”. It then said that there was an invalid catalog record type-volume check failed-volume was not repaired.
A friend of mine has DiskWarrior for Panther so we were going to try that before trying the TechTools Deluxe CD that I had just updated from the Apple site.
Went over today to do that. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the computer to boot up with the DW disk. It would boot up with the Install disc & TTD, but not DW. We tried booting with the option key. It did show that we could boot from "utility CD", but the minute we hit the arrow key after selecting it, we got a circle with a slash through it. We called DW support and they said that my computer was newer than the CD. This was strange since my friend's larger G4 Powerbook was only a couple of weeks older than mine and DW works fine on hers.
Anyway, we ran TTD and let it repair. Ran DU again and it still showed a problem that it could not repair. Ran it again--same thing. Ran TTD again--just to test. It showed that there was nothing that needed repairing. Ran DU yet again--3rd time for the afternoon. Did repair permissions first, then Repair Disk. Strangely enough, now it said the volume was fine and needed no repairing.
So, at least for the moment, things seem okay. Not sure exactly which step worked or if it was just a combination, but I'm just happy that it finally passed DU check.
I will continue to monitor for the next few weeks.

  • HT4530 techtool deluxe

i have been using mac book pro 10.5.8 since 2009. its protection plan has included a cd named techtool Deluxe. I guess its for cleaning mac, but i dont know what to do. Is it going to work automatically if i just put the cd into a mac? i mean what does it do for a mac book pro. i kinda lost my manuals. so please help me. plus i wish to clean my mac with less or zero price. thanks.

Give it a try, that is quite old version of tech tool, the latest is techtoll pro. If you feel that you need a "cleaning application, you may want to check out Onyx, it is free, but I'm not sure if it goes back that far.
It seems it may, just read carefully thru, and do not download any of the other applcations that are hawked on the site. Do this at your own risk, this applies to ALL of these types of software, they may remove too little, they may remove too much, this is the chance that you take with any of these.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DOWNLOAD MACKEEPER.
