[FYI]:Adobe Reader 8

If it's blue, then strange to say it's because the IRS designed it to
be blue. The form designer chooses the font size and colour, and the
user with Adobe Reader can't change this... So hopefully it's
    acceptable to them.

  • FYI: Server-side fix for IE / Adobe Reader 10.1.2 PDF embed problem

    Hey all,
I posted this message as a reply to a question, but want to make sure this gets out there for others who may benefit:
After about four hours of debugging this issue, I have found that, at least for me, the regression issue seems to be with Adobe Reader handling a gzipped PDF embedded in the IE browser, specifically. I can't speak to why this would occur, but hopefully this will help others out. On our site, we had gzipping only disabled (as most probably do) for images (gif, jpg, jpeg, png), meaning PDFs were being gzipped. This, prior to 10.1.2, worked just fine. I changed our web server configs so that PDFs are no longer gzipped and I can now view the PDFs in IE with Reader 10.1.2 the same as before.
If you're using Apache, look for a line that looks something like this in your httpd.conf:
    \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$ no-gzip dont-vary
    And change to:
    \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png|pdf)$ no-gzip dont-vary
That all being said, this still sounds like a bug in Reader 10.1.2, and gzipped PDFs via IE should be supported. I'm sending a separate report to Adobe so hopefully that specific information will help them debug / fix. Until a patch has been released, however, this will make sure our customers can view PDFs. Hope this helps someone else out!

    According to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html from 2012-01-09
"Unsupported configurations for Reader running in Protected Mode include:
Hosting on a Citrix or Windows Terminal Server. Fixed 10.1 (including Acrobat's Protected View)."
    Try disabling Protected Mode:
    From Adobe's help file:
    Protected mode (Windows)
By default, Adobe Reader X runs in protected mode to provide an added layer of security. In protected mode, malicious PDF documents can’t launch arbitrary executable files or write to system directories or the Windows Registry.
To check the status of protected mode, choose File > Properties > Advanced > Protected Mode.
Protected mode is enabled by default. To turn off protected mode:
    1 Choose Edit > Preferences.
2 In the Categories list on the left, select General.
3 Deselect Enable Protected Mode at startup.

  • Why can't I open any pdf files with any version of Adobe Reader after I upgraded?

Upgraded Adobe Reader not too long ago and after then it stopped opening pdf files. I had an old version of Adobe Acrobat and that opened the file no problem. I tried to downgrade Adobe Reader, but that didn't fix the problem.
Just tried to open Adobe Reader by itself without any files and it still crashed.
    FYI – I’m using Windows 7 (Microsoft 2013)

It's not a good idea to have both Acrobat and Reader unless they're both of the same version number (like X or XI). Such a situation can cause all kinds of conflicts and crashes, as you've seen. Also, if you have an old version of Acrobat it's might not be compatible with your OS any more.

  • How To Mark Content In adobe Reader

    Hi Experts,
I hope you guys are doing well. At work I have to read lots of PDF document and I want to mark or color few things so that I don't have to search Important points again and again. FYI I using adobe reader 11 on Centos 6.
    Any help would be great.

Odd that you say you have Reader XI because it's not listed in the Tech Specs:  Tech specs | Adobe Reader XI
It's not listed in the available Reader XI downloads:  Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions
The last version of Adobe Reader listed for Linux of any type was Adobe Reader 9.x and it did not have the ability to comment without Reader Extended PDF files.
So that is why I am puzzled on how you are running Adobe Reader XI when there doesn't seem to be one listed anywhere on Adobe's website for any Linux distribution.
Now if you were running WINE or a VM that would make sense.

  • Troubleshoot pdf adobe reader file to convert to doc and save to disk

I unfortunately have major issues with pdf files. I am not even certain how or why I am no longer able to use postscripts to view online pdf files which then enabled me to save as either a word docx or as in pages or in excell on my computer. Because many websites require adobe reader to view pdf files I downloader the adobe reader 11.0.04. Since then all online / htlm files can not be saved accordingly. In addition when I create a word, excell or page file and want to save it as a pdf on computer drive it only allows it to be saved to adobe online pdf.
I never signed up to have adobe save pdf files online. I do not have share file options or any type of online subscriptions. I checked my system preferences and do not have cloud documents checked off.
I want to find out is it possible to view, convert and save online web archieve and other pdf files without adobe. If so what and how.
What is the equivilant of a pdf converter app which I thought I had on my Mac. FYI using Mac book pro OS 10.8.5 not ready to go to 10.9.
I use Safari 80% of time and Firefox the rest of time but only when websites work with Safari.
If I were to eliminate adobe reader pdf plug in but wanted current disk saved files to open a pdf version what would happen? I admit I feel a bit behind in understanding pdf and webarchieve mechanics but am willing to learn. So if anyone can give me online learining tutorials that not only explain how but also provide video practice I would appreciate it.

Another option is Sirvisetti AutoMail Desktop Connector (part of Sirvisetti AutoStream family of products) that allows you to convert any document to PDF and automatically launches your default e-mail client with the document attached. You just need to add To/Cc/Bcc, type in the subject and message body and click send!
You can request for a demo at http://www.sirvisetti.com
    Hope it helps!

  • Adobe reader XI cannot open PDF created with distiller version 9.4.2

    Hello everybody
I need your help with the following problem:
I created a pdf document once with Adobe disitller Version 10.1.0 and once with Version 9.4.2. With Adobe reader Version XI I can only open the pdf document which was created with distiller Version 10.1.0 but with Adobe reader 9 I can open both documents without any problems.Do you have any idea why?
Thank you very much and best regards,
    Iskierka

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader Won't Print (ver. 10 or 11)

I have a well-maintained Windows 7 32 bit machine running in a VMWare Workstation virtual machine that prints to a network printer via TCP/IP.
It has worked well for years, including printing PDF's from Adobe Reader 9.
Some time ago I updated Reader to version 10.  Printing stopped working.  Eventually I uninstalled Reader 10, and re-installed Reader 9, and printing then worked normally.
I decided to try to update to the latest Reader version 11 (downloaded today) and had the same results:  the installation completed without error, I can open and view documents fine, but printing does not work.
When I attempt to print from Reader, I see the appropriate dialog boxes, and receive no error messages.  The print job just never makes it to the printer (or the Windows print quque).
I uninstalled Reader 11, and re-installed Reader 9 once again...and again printing now works fine.
I guess I will continue to use Reader 9...but I would like to get to the bottom of the printing problem so that I can eventually update Reader.
FYI the printer in question is a Lexmark C544dn, and I am printing to it via ethernet.  I have alread removed the printer from WIndows, and re-installed with latest drivers (at least twice), with no change:  printing still does not work.
Any suggestions on causes or possible resolutions?

Thank you for providing the suggestion and the Cleanup tools, however they did not help.
I ran each version of the cleanup tool, and for each I had it clean up Reader and Acrobat (i.e. 4 separate cleanup operations).  I then rebooted the machine, and installed Reader 11.0.3.
Still had the same behavior:  Reader will not print.  I tried printing to a second printer (that is attached via USB)...and it did not work either.  I also tried printing to a Cute PDF Writer print driver...and that did not work either.  In each case, no print data made it to the Windows print queue (as demonstrated by watching the queue while printing.)  No error was raised, but no print data was transmitted.
I then uninstalled Reader 11.0.3, rebooted, and re-installed Reader 9:  printing works fine now.
There is definitely something in Reader 10 and Reader 11 that breaks printing in some environments.    (As you alluded to...I have seen a number of postings online about printing problems in Reader.)
    More details about my environment:
    Windows 7 Professional N (Version 6.1, Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    VMWare virtual machine
Two virtual CPUs (each: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz, 2673 Mhz, 1 core, 1 Logicial Processor)
    Hardware Abstraction Layer:  6.1.7601.17514
RAM:  3096 (allocated to virtual machine)
    Bridged networking
    VMware host:
    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1
    18 Gig RAM
    Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @2.67 GHz
    VMWare Workstation 9.0.2 build-1031769
(but problem existed on older version of VMWare Workstation 7.x as well)

  • Adobe Reader conflicts with Adobe Acrobat?

It looks like there are some conflicts between Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat:
I just downloaded Adobe Reader 9 without problems but when running the downloaded file(.exe) the seup is interrupted before Adobe Reader 9 could be completelly installed. A message shows up saying: "Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Adobe Reader 6.0.msi".
In fact, I had Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 installed some timew ago, but it was properly uninstalled as I did everything possible to completelly uninstall it, inclusive runing Registry Clean.
The same problem arises if I try do install a previous version of Adobe Reader (e.g. 8.0).
Can anyone please help to solve this probem?
    Thank you.

This is not a solution, it is a work-around for bad programming practices.
I recently had a problem with links from one document to another for literature on our website. The problem was with both Acrobat and Reader where if I did not check the Internet Prefference "Display PDF in browser", the pdf document would download into my "Tempoary Internet Files" folder. From there it expected to find and open the linked document. Our literature website downloads all literature from a common folder on the host.
This problem came up after upgrading (or is it downgrading?) from Windows XP to Windows 7. It was not a problem with Windows XP.
The fix for links was to check Internet Prefference "Display PDF in browser". Now the fix for error 1316 is to UNCHECK Internet Prefference "Display PDF in browser".
I want both Acrobat and Reader loaded in my system so I can TEST the form or any changes I make from Acrobat.
I am really frustrated by this, especially when I get calls from my customers who are accessing our literature online and having the same problems. What do I tell them? Contact Adobe? NOT GOOD ENOUGH. GIVE ME A REAL SOLUTION, GUYS!!!
FYI: Try using FireFox or Opera browser. You may have better results.

  • Submit by email function on adobe reader

I'm trying to apply for a job using an online application on the company's website. The company uses adobe reader. After filling out all the information I click on the submit by email button and get a message saying, "please on enter numerical data for your DOB, etc 01/01/2005 should be entered as 01012005." This is frustrating because I am entering the information as the program asks. After entering my DOB in purely numerical form Adobe adds "/"es after I click on another box. Furthermore, a friend of has successfully filled out the data and submitted the form. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    'Submit by Email' Button:
I am having a similar issue to one that has already been posted.
When an email message gets created, the following message appears alongside the email address,
The attached file contains data that was entered into a form. It is not the form itself.
The recipient of this data file should save it locally with a unique name. Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 or later can process this data by importing it back into the blank form or creating a spreadsheet from several data files. See Help in Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 for more details.
Do I need to be concerned about this? Will the email still work? Our customers will be using this form to register for an event, so I don't want to send it out if it does not function properly.
    FYI...I am using Designer 7.0.

    FYI :

    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6609626#6609626
When I am trying view Statements(PDF) in my application with Adobe Reader 10/11 versions , for few statements it triggers " There is problem with Acrobat / reader. If it is  running, Please exit and try again(523:523)". In few forums it has been stated that by turning off the protected mode at start up " Edit-->preferences-->general-->Enable protected mode at start up" resolves this issue. But the client doesnt want to turn off " Protected mode"due to security reason. Can any one help me with this?

  • Need help finding the desktop applc of Adobe Reader for Palm OS

Either I'm going blind, or Adobe just failed to include a download link for that Adobe Reader desktop application that takes care of converting regular PDF files to PDB files. I
Here is Adobe Reader for Palm OS page, there you'll find a link to download a Free AR for the Palm OS, which installs a PRC file in your Palm, but there is no mention of its counter part application for the desktop

WN,  thanks for the suggestion. I had just tried it actually. And it's a great alternative. But after using the other one, I can't help but notice how slow it is in my Palm TX. I think I would prefer to get the benefit of compressing/converting the files to PDBs. But no one seems to know where to get that application. I checked in my TX CD and I didn't find it.
If your TX installation CD does not "auto-run" and present you with a menu to install additional software (including Adobe Reader for Palm), you can find it on the disc using Windows Explorer at:
    Palm CD > Int_English >  Essential_software > Adobe Reader for Palm
In that folder is the installation (.exe) file which you run on your desktop.  It installs the desktop app, and the .prc file gets installed to the quick installer during the process.
FYI...this software is slow and clunky on the handheld.  The conversion process is imperfect, and particularly with files which I have produced myself using Acrobat Distiller (the part of Adobe Acrobat which lets you "print" to the distiller to create a .pdf file from anything),  it sometimes doesn't even work.
The best .pdf viewer I have used on my handhelds is actually the upgraded version of Documents To Go, which handles native .pdf files pretty well.  No conversion needed, just drop the files into your SD card, or Hotsync with Documents To Go desktop.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.08 patch on FTP site corrupt

Just an fyi it looks like the 11.0.08 patch is corrupt on the FTP site. The file size is only 124kb and it will not apply if you download it. Link is below:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.08/misc/

    Hi Johnathon
From the information provided by you it seems you have Adobe Reader installed on your machine.
The ftp link you have shared is of Acrobat patch. The size of the patch is indeed 124KB only and we have verified that the patch downloads and installs fine from the above mentioned location.
The reason the patch is failing at your end is because you are trying to apply Acrobat patch over Reader installation. Please download and install the Reader patch from here ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.08/misc/
Please note: This update requires that Adobe Reader 11.0.7 is installed on your system. To determine which version you have currently installed, choose Help > About Adobe Reader. After verifying you have the requisite version installed, download and install the patch from the link mentioned above.

Error message: "windows intller does not permit updating of managed advertised products. At least one feature of the product must be installed before applying the update" when I try to download Adobe Reader on Windows 7, pls help

    Thanks a lot Ajlan,
I tried installing the .exe file and it says it is not a valid Win32 program.
I can't even open the .msi file.
I used to have Reader on my computer and it worked, but for some reason now it doesn't. It doesn't show up on my Programs list and so cannot uninstall if I don't have obviously; I do have a recent version of Flashplayer that I was prompted to upgrade to.
Also, .pdf files have the right logo in the folders and desktop, and I can save files as .pdf in dropbox from this computer and open them on another computer using dropbox and they work. This might seem obvious to you but I'm a beginner so it's just in case, FYI.
Thanks for anymore help you can give me!
