G 500 bloatware removal

Hi, Just got a G500. New to Lenovo. My computer experience is average. I wanted to uninstall things I don't really need to get more space. I'm just using this computer to go to college on line. What can I safely remove without affecting the functionality of the computer? Thanks

Pre-installed Bloatware Removal

Does anyone have a list of the software that comes with a new X1 Carbon that can be safely removed?
I am shocked by the amount of pre-installed crap on this new machine. Usually, I would get Dell notebooks and they came with a few pieces of extra software, but this is crazy.
If I have to spend a half day or more cleaning off all the extra crap, I may have to stick with Dell in the future.

I got rid of SimpleTap. I had to delete all of the tiles before uninstalling.

How to copy and overwrite existing folder that is created under KM

I have about 500 store folders created in KM and under each of those folders I have a subfolder called Reports. I had created a new Reports folder that I want to copy to all of the 500 store folders but, when I tried doing it I see it creates another copy of the Reports folders and doesn't overwrite the existing one which I really want it to do. Is there way to overwrite, rather then manuelly going into each 500 folders, removing the existing Reports folder and then copying over the update Reports folder.

there is no way to overwrite with a "copy". If you need this functionality more often, you could develop your own report.
The existing "copy" report has no overwrite function.
Instead of manually deleting the existing folder, you could use the delete report.

Time Warner Cable - Can They Recall Collection??

Hi all, I've been working to get a $500 collection removed from credit report from Time Warner. It is now with Collection Bureau of America (CBA). I sent CBA a PFD - They didn't respond I then decided to call Time Warner to see if they could help. Time Warner said that if I went into a payment office and paid in full to Time Warner they could have it removed from my credit report. This sounds nice, but I've read on the forums that even if you pay the OC that doesn't mean the CA is required to remove the collection from your CR. Is this true????? Does Time Warner have the ability to recall a collection? Thanks in advance for your responses.

The answer to the basic question is yes, a creditor can always "recall" their collection to the extent that they can terminate the assigned collection authority. However, a credtior cannot "recall" credit reporting made by their assigned debt collecton.It is not their reporting, and they have no authority to delete it or require the debt collector to delete. They can request the debt collector to delete, but since deletion based on payment of the debt is contrary to the written policy of the CRAs, I would imagine some reluctance on their part to request that the debt collector violate the terms of their credit reporting agreement.

Renaming Bookmarks

I just finished a project in InDesign which was then exported to PDF to make a slide show of 517 slides, each with a title that was bookmarked by creating a Table of Contents in InDesign.
My problem is that all of the titles were in the form of 000-A[A] where the first three characters were a three-digit number, and the fourth and optional fifth were letters. The ID document was created using Data Merge, and in the original data file there were no hyphens, making some of the combinations difficult to read. I used GREP to add the hyphen with a thin space on either side to achieve the look I wanted before adding the TOC.
After export to PDF I discovered that the bookmarks generated all had little square boxes around the hyphens representing missing glyphs for the thin spaces. I presume this is due the choice of font used by the OS to display the bookmark links, and I don't see any way to control that on my own system, let alone on a remote user system.
I worked around this by removing the thin spaces from the titles and re-exporting the PDF, but I would have preferred to leave them in. Is there any way to run a script in Acrobat, similar to running a find/change in ID, that would go through and automatically rename 500+ bookmarks, removing the unavailable thin space characters while leaving them in place on the page?

Although the project is now out the door, I'd be interested in some hints. I'd say I'm a "literate novice" in that I used to write a bit of Java code now and then, and at least understand the syntax in javascript, and I'm starting to learn GREP for use in ID, so the concept isn't foreign.
Is there a reference on the DVD or something for finding the right names for properties in Acrobat?
Now that I know you can use javascript to alter the file itself, rather than just perform a secondary action, I'd approach this in terms of creating a bookmark array and looping through it looking for instances of the offending characters (thin spaces in this case) and removing or replacing as you go.
While you are being this helpful, is there any way to change the font in the bookmarks panel?

M93p SFF "missing driver" for &DEV_8C24&SUBSYS_309717AA; needed Intel chipset utility 10.0.24

A new M93p SFF machine arrived Thursday, which I'm preparing for shipment to a friend in Virginia whose current 7-year old desktop machine has finally reached its own end-of-life. Win7 Pro x64 pre-installed (via downgrade rights from Win8.1).
I've bought four M93p machines now (one tower and three SFF) and they've all been standard CPU... i5-4570. This time I thought I'd spend the extra $30 and go for one step up, to the i5-4670. Cheap enough. Aside from the Win7 downgrade the rest of the machine is standard.
And then I do my own "after market hardware upgrade", purchasing my own parts: adding another 4GB of memory from Crucial, adding a 256GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD, and adding a low-profile 1GB DDR5 Sapphire R7 250 video card. The existing two pre-installed Win7 boot partitions were easily migrated over to the SSD from the stock 500GB SATA spinner, and the original 500GB spinner was then fully repurposed to be a second "data" drive. All went without a hitch... almost.
In the process of doing Windows Updates, driver updates, Lenovo/Norton bloatware removal, Lenovo software updates, etc., I noticed that there was a device showing a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager. This was of course totally unexpected, and I was very curious as to its cause. Was it due to the i5-4670 CPU? Was it due to a BIOS update which now made use of a hardware feature that had previously been disabled? Didn't know.
The device was "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller". And its Hardware ID is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C24&SUBSYS_309717AA. The mystery was why this didn't have a suitable Lenovo-provided driver specifically available on the download site for the M93p. And if it was actually an Intel hardware item and should have been supported by the Intel Chipset Utility (latest version for Haswell from Lenovo being 10.0.13), why did it not have the proper driver? And why didn't "update driver automatically" through Windows Update not find the proper driver on the MS Update Catalog site?
All very interesting.
Well, turns out support for this device is related to Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver. And it turns out that it IS actually supported by the latest Chipset Utility from Intel (v10.0.24), available directly from the Intel download center. Unfortunately it is NOT present in the older 10.0.13 available from Lenovo on their own download site for the M93p drivers and software.
Once that most current 10.0.24 version of the Intel Chipset Utility was run, now sure enough the device is now correctly supported by its driver and no longer appears as "other" with a yellow exclamation mark. Instead, it now appears properly labeled as "Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Series Thermal - 8C24".
So, problem now resolved. No more "other" unknown device with yellow exclamation mark.
But the question still remains as to what has only newly triggered this in my brand new just manufactured (10A9CT01WW, with its special order i5-4670 CPU instead of standard i5-4570) and delivered Lenovo-provided M93p? How is it that Lenovo didn't observe this? Is it something new from Intel now present in the Q87 chipset used on the motherboard? Why didn't it appear in any of the other three M93p machines I've purchased over the past year?
If it was tied to the i5-4670 CPU, you'd still think Lenovo would have noticed this issue before now.
Anyway, for anybody else who comes along behind me and has this same hardware problem, the solution is easy: just grab at least the latest 10.0.24 Chipset Utility from Intel. Until Lenovo updates things, this appears to be the fix.

Today's followup...
Lenovo tech showed up as scheduled, although I was baffled because yesterday I was told the replacement board was "back ordered" and still in China (or maybe on a boat in a container, waiting to be unloaded). With the longshoreman's problem on the west coast and specifically affecting the Port of LA, it's not clear when items shipped this way will arrive.
Anyway, today I get a phone call that the tech is 30 minutes out! Great, although I'm baffled as to how he has a motherboard today if yesterday it was supposed "back ordered". Also, he does have the replacement case front fan, in the event it wasn't the original motherboard sensor which that was responsible for the reporting the "system fan" as "not operating" even though it was plugged into the fan header on the motherboard and was spinning properly.
Well, turns out the system board he arrived with was NOT the same 00K277 board delivered from the factory in my M93p as it arrived last Thursday. Instead, it was a presumably acceptable substitute 3T7183 board. And in fact, once installed it DID work.
However... still "not operating" for the front case fan. Disappointing.
Also, the "motherboard temp" of 212F degrees now was no longer even presented at all! It simply was not reported by the sensor to the software. This actually agrees with another M93p, which also fails to report "motherboard temp", while yet another M93p reports it as 72F degrees (instead of the 212F degrees from my original Thursday board). So maybe this particular issue should just be entirely forgotten about, although it certainly doesn't seem at all correct.
Next step, try to replace the case fan. With "not operating" from two boards (and thus two fan headers), it obviously would seem to be the fan itself that's probably responsible.
Well, unfortunately they sent the wrong fan part. It's cable was 4-wire (i.e. PWM?) rather than 3-wire of the original. also the 4-wire cable on the new fan was far too short to be able to reach over to the fan header connector on the motherboard. It's quite simply the wrong fan part.
So, the tech re-ordered the correct replacement fan. Presumably when available I'll get another call and another tech will come out to swap it. Hopefully that will finally resolve the "not operating" system fan issue and I will finally see its RPM.
Bottom line: today's service call accomplished nothing productive. The new board did no harm but it also did no good. And the new fan was unusable, since it was the wrong fan part.
I await the next visit.

ITunes won't launch or unexpectedly quits immediately

Same issues as many others. I have read many of the threads and tried many of the suggestions. My iTunes launch briefly (I can see the menu bar change), then quits unexpectedly. I have tried to find any conflicting software but nothing is working.
I have tried the following solutions with no success:
• deleted all iTunes prefs, apps, folders, etc. and re-installed iTunes 8.01
• deleted everything and installed iTunes 7.5
• moved a working copy of iTunes and all prefs from another computer
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ directory and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

Disable programs at startup on nb200

I recently reformatted a nb200 that was given to me. With the computer in factory state and all the bloatware removed, it is still really really slow. I check the task manager and 3/4 of the ram is taken up when the computer is idle, and when I'm using it for simple tasks the cpu usage is never below 80%. Most of the usage is taken up by toshiba processes. Are most of these disableable? I'm pretty sure they're only there for protection but not required. Which ones can I disable at start-up?

You may disable all of it if you want to, just leave the Alps Pointing Device enabled so your touchpad will still work and your Antivirus too.
Don't worry, your netbook will still connect to the internet because the OS is the one managing the services of it.

Droid X2 Owners with Freezes/lockups READ THIS!! and VZ/MOTO employees!!!

I am COMPLETLEY convienced the Freeze/lockup has something to do with the SD card or SD card slot. i retored my phone to 100% stock yesterday, NO bloatware removed etc...ran so nice all day, this morning i decided to put the SD card that came with it back in the phone, formatted it, and BOOM within 15 min, SCreen lock up
MOTO and VZ, you need to look into this. i think that is the issue on the freezes. im going to maybe call and see if i can get a replacement....

Interesting.....if you are running GB, then that's probably your problem. I have had an original DX since Nov 2010 and up until August when they released GB, I had absolutely no problems with the phone. Once GB got installed to the DX, the SD card started having serious issues. The card the phone came with just up and completely corrupted right after GB got installed on the phone, and then the replacement card that I was forced to go buy (VZW refused to replace it but that's an entirely different story) has had problems 3 seperate times since I installed it into the phone since the end of August....seems like every 3-4 weeks the SD card suddenly has file system errors and I cannot read anything on it (computer won't even recognize it), so I end up losing pictures, ringtones and other things to the point that I have regularly back everything up to my computer just to make sure I can keep these pictures and ringtones. They're not all that important pictures, but still....if I was able to go 9 months on Froyo with NO problems with the SD card (or phone for that matter), then how come 2 months since VZW pushed the GB update to the phones are there regular occurences......something is fishy in Denmark with all these sudden problems
I would hope that VZW and Moto would realize the problems increased ten-fold since GB was pushed and actively attempt to fix them once and for all, but I truly believe they view it as the phone being EOL (no NEW phones are sold anymore) that the issues are no longer of a big concern to them. Seems like the only answer is that as we are able to do so, just upgrade to a different phone. I know for a fact that I will NEVER get another Motorola phone.....the DX is a great phone, but Moto, and to an extent VZW, have truly caused the phone to go down the proverbial toilet, which is a shame

I have 1.25 GB RAM installed but my mac only sees 768...256 from the logic board and 512 installed but the chip is a 1 gig chip and I've had it for quite some time...what happened? apparently my mac had a kernel panic last nite late am, and I get a crash report this morning and noticed that activity monitor only showed 768...the crash report is below...can anyone make sense of it? has my memory died? what's up?

Try removing and reseating the SODIMM into the socket. Push firmly so that it's seated all the way. If you have the Apple Hardware Test CD, you could also try running that while you have the SODIMM removed, to see if the problem is the socket itself.

Should Creative announce a product reca

Considering the large volume of unhappy customers, to put it mildly, and the ongoing X-Fi fiasco would Creative be wise to save the ever shrinking customer base and bad PR by recalling all X-Fi products?
Or at the very least offer those effected a full refund?...it seems to me that the X-Fi was not throughly tested on a wide range of hardware and PC configurations before the lauch of the card.
Seems they did not communicate with third parties until after the release and are now struggling to save face and catch up, only reacting to customer complaints when the issues surrounding the X-Fi became more vocal and public.
The recent statement from Creative is an insult to customers, many of whom are proficient in PC hardware and many of whom have built their PC's from scratch.
People using X-Fi and Fatalty cards are techno geeks and gamers, they know ALL about Dual Channel memory and which DIMM slots to place the memory in, and many have upgraded to 2GB to play games such as F.E.A.R. and Battlefield 2.
Yet Creative insult the intellegence of these same people with pathetic statements about buffer overflow and insufficient memory.
It's shocking they were only able to replicte the problem themselves two months ago, yet these forums reported the problem within a month of the X-Fi release.
In essence they were saying...if we can't replicate the issue in our lab it dosen't exist, a rather condesending a rude attitude to take toward customers who fund that lab and the techs inside it.
It's time we as paying consumers stand our ground on this issue, if Creative are allowed to release a product that has not been fully tested then what is to stop other companies from doing the same?
We bought into the hype and PR, we paid a large sum of money for what is still an overly inflated price tag for such a product and that product has not li'ved up to customers most BASIC expectations.
That being a functioning product able to run on any hardware or configuration, regular driver updates...at least every 2-3 months.
Software updates, no bloatware, remove unnesscary rubbish like X-Fi splash screens that take up 40megs of HDD space, the removal of unnesscary startup items, the removal of nagging screens and menus forcing you to register your product.
If a customer wants to register they should do it when they choose, not be nagged by some silly app asking them to fill in personal information.
The thing about customers is this, they remember...so when the X-Fi 2 comes out those burned will avoid it and go with another competitor.
Reputations are broken on the back of negati've feedback, what we are seeing on this forum should give Creative pause for thought.

The petition and statement are more of a coincidence. I had posted a few times hinting I would have more information, the very long statement was being worked on, and things got a bit hectic as the petition went up around the same time, and then the Inquirer article (and the follow-up which linked to the new thread).
As far as the old thread being closed, I explained that in the other thread. New people were joining the thread all the time and the thread was so long, they just wouldn't read it. This lead to a lot of people reposting information and missing statements we'd posted, and everything generally got very "messy" and I don't believe it was helping many (new) people. No one is trying to make the old thread disappear, in fact the first thing I did in the new thread, was link to the old one! This way new people that join the board (and undoubtedly there will be after the petition, Inquirer articles, and so on) will quickly see the latest info, instead of digging their way through a very long thread, but the old thread is linked there so they can read the previous history if they want to.

Droid Eris warranty replacement

Does Verizon still have Droid Eris's to replace, or should I get a Moto Droid/Incredible as a replacement instead?

The phone handles eclair, and even froyo just fine. There is just too much junk added in and I think was somewhat poorly written. The general speculation is that some phones had different components that didn't jive with the software and that's why some had so many issues and some had none. I have a custom froyo rom on my Eris with the bloatware removed and the phone absolutely flies, not to mention with moderate usage I can get a full 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. I will probably still replace it due to the blown speaker, but I love this phone.

Itunes backups missing!

Last night my ipod froze/crashed - it got stuck on the apple screen - it took me all morning to restore it. All my apps have been put back, (even one I downloaded a couple days ago) but only some of the data came back: My contacts, youtube favorites(the ones saved from my ipod) were restored along with data from games like high scores and exact places in games but my calendar (the included one), Notes, and most of my downloaded app's data is gone! (ie PocketMoney and AwesomeNote contents)
I have let itunes backup the entire thing within the past month or 2, I remember because I was tired of waiting hours for it to backup and found the tip to delete the icon cache in AppSniper, and then I backed it up to see if it sped it up which it did. Itunes will only show me a backup from May 2009! I have backed it up quite a few times since May and it won't show them, HELP!!! Heck it's crashed and been restored between then and now and I never lost my notes (which date back to the day I bought the thing). I NEED THIS DATA BACK! Help! Is there a way to get these backups to show up in itunes??

I had saw this page before, but the key of backing up my iphone from a backup from more than a week ago, was from My Time Machine.
The backup feature is kinda weak if the thing only backups my current iphone setting and date replacing the older backups...WHAT LOGIC DOES THAT HAVE?
I feel bad for the others who have had to backup their phone and don't have time machine-
I simply went into time machine ,I dont have time capsule, I just have a regular MY BOOK 500 GB removable drive- Anyway, I went into time capsule to my last backup date in Feb.- I went under User/Library/Applications/MobileSync I believe, and there it showed the two backups I had done for that day, i selected them, and restored them and replaced the backups I had done today, and there I had it. Everything is synched, but I wish the itunes saved more than one recent date for backups.
