G Tech and LaCie external HDs are considered enterprise grade HD . . .

G Tech and LaCie external HDs are considered enterprise grade HDs, which is better or are they about the same? I was told that G Tech and LaCie externals are much more durable and higher quality than the HDs that come with the iMac's because they are enterprise grade versus consumer. If it can be quantified how much better?
Thanks!!

"Enterprise grade" as applied to hard drives means the manufacturer has tested the drives to a much longer MTBF than their lesser kin. The only way LaCie or G-Tech systems can be "enterprise grade" is if they are using the more expensively graded drives made by the drive manufacturers. Most drive system makers keep their prices low and competitive by using the least expensive drives the can obtain for a given set of specifications.

  • Installed 10.4.6 now ipod and lacie external hard drive no longer register

    Hi
thankyou in advance, I updated to 10.4.6 but now the ipod and lacie external hard drive (usb drive) are not recognized by the computer. have tried disk utility, restarting etc but no difference. The lacie is recognized by another computer so it is not faulty. Any suggestions please?

after reading this and resetting the PMU, my drive works. I'd say try it, the worst that could happen is you have to fix your time and date.

  • Compatibility issues between OS X Lion and LaCie external HD ?

    Hi Community,
My TM is on a LaCie external HD like this one  http://www.lacie.com/support/support_manifest.htm?id=10283
It's working very well under Snow Leopard and even if it's not the top performance and a little bit noisy, it's a very good backup tool.
I didn't upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion yet - there is no hurry, I let others discover the last bugs and Apple fix them - but I'm starting to think about it and slowly preparing to make a clean install after downloading Lion and creating an installation DVD.
Of course I will need a perfectly working TM to restore so I'm a bit worried about the rumors I saw here and there about compatibility issues with LaCie external hard drives when upgrading to Lion.
Does anyone has an experience to share about this ? Thanks.

I would not rely just on TM for my backup solution. External hard drives are so cheap I would buy one,and clone your current system using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. The advantages being that you will have an exact copy of your current system that you can boot into in the event that you have issues with Lion. The cloning software is very easy to use and offers scheduling options you can use to your own preference daily, weekly, etc.... I have some software that I use that can not run on Lion so I just boot into SL from the external HD and I'm good to go. I personally have never had to restore a system or file from TM although I do backup with TM. I do however boot up to an older system from an external HD all the time. As far as doing a clean install, I don't think that is necessary. I just updated my system as is AFTER I ran SuperDuper to make sure I was up to date on my clone. Other than some older software being uncompatible ( Which I knew in advance) I have had no issues with Lion.
    Good Luck

  • Problems with iMac G5 and LaCie external drives

I have an early iMac G5 (without iSight), running OS 10.5.2. I've had a 250GB LaCie external hard drive for about a year now, and it worked fine up until a couple weeks ago, when I got this message:
    Disk Repair
The disk "External HD" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible."
I was unable to save anything to the drive after this, including altering files already on the drive. Long story short, I bought another LaCie drive, because I needed more space anyway. I got the 500 GB model, moved everything onto it, erased the old drive, and then I had two working drives. I've since only been using the new drive, but just a few days later, I got the same message again, and am having the same problem, but this time for the new drive. I'm not a computer-savvy person, so I have no idea what could be causing this. This happened not long after updating to OS 10.5 from 10.4 - I'm not sure if this could be related. Can anyone help?

One thing to look out for is the power source. If you have a huge octopus of power cords plugged into one outlet, the drive may not be getting enough power to operate properly. That would explain why the same thing happened on two separate drives, both recently. You may have added something new to the +power strip+ that is overtaxing the available power draw.
Someone I know had this issue. It never occurred to him or me to consider this possibility. His external drive was regularly getting disk directory errors. I initially thought the drive was going bad, but once we distributed the power cords to two power strips connected to different outlets, the problem did not recur.
Your problem may be something else, but it sounded too familiar to not mention my experience with the power cord octopus monster.

  • ARQ: Are "Valid From" and "Valid To" dates are considered for risk analysis???

    Hi All,
I have one question w.r.t. risk analysis of user while raising a request in ARQ.
I have noticed that, when a user is assigned 2 conflicting roles in a request (with "Valid From" and "Valid To" fields being the same), ARQ shows risk violations properly.
This is quite logical, because user is assigned conflicting roles within the same dates.
In another scenario, if a user is assigned 2 conflicting roles in a request (with "Valid From" and "Valid To" fields being different)
    Example:
    Time Administration : Valid From=15.06.2014 and Valid To= 31.12.2014
Payroll Administrator: Valid From=20.06.2014 and Valid To= 31.12.2014
ARA still shows as violations (in ARQ)! Though the "Valid From" dates are different.
Logically, user is not assigned these roles at the same time to cause a risk violations. However, system is showing violations.
May I know if validity dates are considered while performing risk analysis in ARQ? If no, then what could be the justification?
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Faisal

    Rafal,
    Thanks for your reply.
Does it mean that all future dates will be considered while analysis?
    OR
    Does ARA consider these dates?
    Regards,
    Faisal

  • Lacie external hard drives

Hello I am writing you in the inquiry about the Shay hard drive and with Maverick operating system is there any issue with Maverick and lacie
external hard drives losing data I want to bye one of these hard drive but I want to know if there is any issues with data loss I am considering a 6 TB lacie thunderbolt external hard drive and I have read that there is some issues with especially Western Digital hard drives and Lacie hard drives possibly machine so please return with an answer if possible thank you very much

After having a lot of trouble with 3 LaCie hard drives, I switched to Apple Time Capsules - they just work straight out of the box. If you buy from the refurbished section, they are less expensive, but come with the same 1 year warranty. Right now there is a 2 TB drive for $199.

  • HT202731 Yosemite on new MacBook Pro is not recognising Seagate or Lacie external hard drives

My Lacie external drive and Seagate external drive are not being recognised by my new MacBook Pro 13" retina with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1.  Initially the Lacie worked, but that has dropped out - cannot find it in disk utilites.
Lacie is recognised by my friends computer with Maverick - OS X 10.9.5.  Currently downloading data and will try to reconfigure the external drive.  Is Yosemite truly not acknowledging other drivers?  USB memory key is fine.  Lacie has been my back up for some years, also Seagate, but on older computers. Suggestions needed to resolve this please.

Contact the manufacturers of Lacie and Seagate.  You need to determine if the models that you have are compatible w/your new OS system and/or comp.

  • Customer Aging Report(without reconciled transaction)-what types of documents are considered?

    Hi Friends,
As per my knowledge,Customer Aging Report consider only those documents(ar invoice,ar downpayment, incoming payment-payment on a/c,ar credit memo) which are open and showing balance due and standalone JE against Customer.
As I cross checked,I found those standalone JE where Customer and round off account are considered as debit, credit are not considered by 'Customer Aging report'.
So,I just want to know what are all the logic based on which SAP B1 standard report 'Customer Aging ' (without reconciled transaction ) consider the documents????

Which SAP B1 Version and Patch is under use at your end ?
There were issues in SAP B1 regarding reconcilliations in versions prior to 2007 series.

  • Way to mount FireWire external HDs so I can access remotely?

This is either not possible, or I am totally looking in the wrong place. I have three FireWire external HDs that are chained, then plugged into an iMac G4 running 10.4.11, then mounted to the desktop. File sharing is on, along with Remote Access, Remote Login, etc. in the Control Panel.
I am trying to login remotely (through ftp, afp) using a MacBook Pro running 10.5 to view/copy files from the HDs, but all I am able to login to is the Home Folder of the username/password I put in - the HDs don't show up. I've tried various things, such as Virtual Folders, trying to input the path to the HDs in the address string - all to no avail.
Is there a way to mount FireWire drives so that a remote user can access them?

If you're external HDs are mounted as a local volume, that should up under Devices in the Finder window. Does it? If so, then in Preferences->Sharing->File Sharing, you should be able to add that volume as a Shared Folder. Is that what is giving you trouble? (I don't have an external HD, so can't test it).
Once you've shared that out, you should be able to connect to it via afp://, nfs://, or smb://...

Also have parallel on snow leopard but it is no longer supported according to mac website - if i upgrade am i going to lose my parallel and will have to buy a new one!!!

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

Is there any solution (other than buying
I really think 'buying' is the best solution on this one.  Ideally, you would have at least five internal hard drives.
    System
    Projects
    Cache/Scratch
    Media
    Exports
Use externals and network drive only for backup.

i am a OS10.7.4 user. yesterday i bought a Lacie external hard disk but error message appear said " You cant open the applicant LaCie setup assistant because PowerPC applicants are no longer support". please help me how to connect my mac with Lacie??

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

If you have a considerable photograph and/or movie collection you may want to consider off loading those to the EHD too. Here are Apple's article showing how handle iTunes & iPhoto libraries.
