G2 iPod and Tiger: a match made in heck

Hi. I purchased my G2 (touchweel/firewire) iPod when I still had my old computer, running OS 9.2.2. Now I've upgraded computers (15"PB w/ OS10.4.4), but can't currently afford a new iPod to "go with it". I'd like to be able to continue to sync to my trusty G2 device. So I goes to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971 , which tells me I need iTunes 4.7. hmmm...I currently have iTunes 6.
My question (before I go off and try to sync and get into a biggol' mess): Is iTunes 4.7 the MINIMUM I need for my G2 iPod or is it the MAXIMUM? In other words, will my iPod accept nothing BELOW iTunes 4.7 or will it accept nothing ABOVE iTunes 4.7? Or will it ONLY accept iTunes 4.7? The abovereferenced page makes none of this clear.
My second question: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688 says my G2 iPod runs iPod Software Version 1.5. Since that's what's already on it (it's got tons of music on it right now), do I need to re-download it and have it lurking somewhere in the background before I sync? Or once it's "on" the iPod, should I just leave well enough alone?
My final question (for now): If I do, in fact, need to be running iTunes 4.7 to be able to communicate with my G2 iPod, will that supercede my current v.6? Or what? Can I run them simultaneously? Will that not confuse my poor PowerBook (much as I am clearly confused)?
Thank you, whomever you may be, o fair answerer of my queries.
15" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

1. Your iPod can sync with iTunes 6; the requirements listed are the minimum needed to use all features of the iPod, and synching music with a second generation iPod can be done with iTunes 2.04 on Mac OS 9.22.
2. You do not need to reinstall the iPod's firmware before using it.

  • IPod and VW Golf Match

I have just bought a VW Golf Match with an iPOd connector which is supposed to play my iPod through the car stereo.
Unfortunately when I connect mt iPod Photo or iPod Nano, I get a screen that says "OK to disconnect" and pauses playback.
The car stereo does not recognise the presence of the iPod.

  • IPods and Tiger

This may be off topic here. If so I apologize. But the question is this.
Why are people so high on iPods when they can buy a Palm Pilot for a cheaper price that does far more? My Zire 72 can do music, movies, record audio, take pictures, record video, an do so much more. However the audio recorder in the Palm will no chance replace a standard digital recorder or tape recorder, and the camera will not replace a standard digital or analog video camera.
Tell me can the iPod sync better with music than my Zire 72? I notice that my Zire cannot sync with iTunes. I have to waste a CD everytime I wish to copy music to it.
Why are people buying iPods in droves, but not Palm Pilots? The Zire 72 is cheaper than an iPod and can do more.
Someone with some technical experience with an iPod and Palm, please respond.
    John

Lets see--I've got 12GBs on my iPod. The Zire says it has "14MBs of actual storage capacity."
I download music from iTMS, plug in the iPod and transfer my new music to it. Evidently you can't do that.
I construct custom playlists and can select them to play on the iPod. Evidently you can't do that.
I plug in the ear buds that came with the iPod and listen. Evidently you have to buy ear buds. I plug in head phones, or plug the iPod directly into my stereo. Evidently you can do that without buying an expansion card.
14MBs????? Even my older shuffle pod holds more than that, and is cheaper than your Zire. And I didn't have to buy anything extra to use head phones, so I'm guessing it was significantly cheaper, as well as working better.

  • 3G iPod and Tiger .... Not a Match Made In Heaven

Some time ago, when I first installed Tiger and then iTunes 6, I noticed that my iPod took longer to be recognized by my computer. I thought nothing of it until a few weeks ago. Then it started to take an hour to be seen on my desktop. Since then, I tried to connect my iPod to another computer running Tiger and restored it from there. I could then see my iPod on my computer, but then the problem started all over again. I tried using the other computer, but that computer will no longer see my iPod. I then wiped iTunes out and reinstalled it. My iPod still could not be seen. I tried connecting my iPod to an older G4 tower which is running 10.3, and it could see my iPod. So I restored it again, from that machine. I tried plugging the iPod back into the other two machines running Tiger, and my iPod would not show up on the desktop.
When connected my machine, the iPod acts as if it were just plugged into the wall to charge. On the other machine running Tiger, the "Do not disconnect" comes on the screen of the iPod. But on the old machine, my iPod works fine and can have music transfered to it.
Can someone tell me why my iPod can't be seen on my machine? I have followed all of the directions on the Apple Support pages, but nothing works. Please help!!!!!

    OK so, to summarise:
    1) The iPod works when connected to the Panther (10.3) equipped G4 tower.
    2) The iPod doesn't show up at all on the desktop or in the iPod Updater software or in DiskUtility or in iTunes on either of the Tiger equipped computers (eMacs?)
However if you connect it to either of them, then iTunes freezes until it is removed? The iPod does appear in System Profiler on these computers.
    3) You have no other firewire devices connected to the Tiger machines.
    4) you have reset the iPod ( following the instructions found at http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n61705 )
    5) you have restored the iPod , using the G4
    Mmm.
    Further thoughts:
If its working with the G4 under Panther, and has crrect sofwtare installed, then it must be related to either the software or hardware on the two Tiger computers. The fact that it shows up in system profiler suggests that its not a firewire port issue, though. I'd normally aexpect this to be a problem involving a conflict with another FW device, but if there are none connected it obviously can't be.
    1) try reinstalling iTunes
    2) zap the PRAM
    3) try a new cable
    Cheers

  • Have IPOD and partners Itunes - how to use it for me?

I am not good with technology and easily confused! I have an old IPOD that is full with about 2000 of my songs. We have moved overseas and I use my partners computer. He has Itunes installed with all his IPOD details on it.
My question is - how do I get all my info on it so I can edit my songs, put new downloads on etc. At the moment I am listening to the same stuff i loaded on 4 yrs ago when I got the IPOD and it drives me mad.
I dont want it to delete his stuff - just want the facility to run my own Itunes with my Ipod.
    How so i do this????

    Hey there,
One solution is to copy all the music currently on your iPod to your partner's computer and then restore the ipod through iTunes and resync all the old music back to it as well as the new music. This way, you can update the ipod with new songs and play counts and such.
You could even create an entire new empty library for just your Tunes on his computer. Instructions on how to do this can be found in this Apple support document, which actually provides several methods on how to manage multiple iPods with one computer.
[How to use multiple iPods with one computer|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495]
As to how to copy music from your iPod to the computer, there are several ways you can accomplish this. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Multiple libraries for one ipod and match?

Ok, so... I've got about 1500 songs purchased via itunes, and own about 3500 CDs, which I'm in the process of adding to my library.  All but about 50 of the discs were already ripped years ago, and I'm just copying the backup mp3s onto my new external drive after the last one failed.  Anyhow, I just got itunes Match and I'm wondering if I made a mistake in doing so.  Is there a way to have songs from multiple libraries on my ipod?  Due to the sheer volume of music (and other thigns) I own, I'm wondering if I should just make a comedy library, a blues library, a synthpop library, a metal one, a rock & roll one, an oldies one and so on.  If I do that, will I be relegated to having to decide what style of music I want on my ipod at any given time, or is there a way for me to load different items from multiple libraries onto the thing?
I'm halfway tempted to just delete my entire library from itunes and just be SUPER picky about what tracks I add in order to be able to get under the 25K limit.  As is, right now I've got 21411 items in my library, over 20000 of which are in match, but it keeps crashing on step 3 right now.  As is, I already know I need to re-mp3 some of the discs since when I did them originally they were less than 96K (oddly, I'm finding it's mainly on my "oldies" discs like the American Graffiti soundtrack), and that doens't bug me, but the idea of having to go through song by song and add only what I want is one I'm not too fond of and that I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
I'm really digging match, but not so much now that I realized there's a hard limit to the number of songs available.  I don't think Apple is used to folks like me who live & breathe music and attend well over 100 concerts in the average year.
Thanks for anyone who's read all of my rambling, and any of y'all who can provide me a bit of guidance!
    -Ann

This would be making is WAY less difficult. This is a MUCH needed feature in iTunes that they should add. As a DJ I absolutely hate having all my music in one library. Certain genres, like Electronic music, deserve to be in their own library. I would like to be able to hit the Music icon on my iPod and have it ask me what library of music I would like to access.
This would allow siblings to share one iPod and not have to combine all of their music together. Or you could make a library of music with no explicicit music on it (and passcode it) so that you don't have to worry about kids having access to your explicit material if you let them use your iPod.
You can already make multiple libraries in iTunes, why not just add the obvious next step and be able to add multiple libraries onto one iPod.

  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?

Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?

Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.

Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Then backup your computer after you recover the items.

The most immediate thing you need to do is to call your credit card company and report the unauthorized charges. Your card company can contact Apple if they need additional information.
Next, log into your iTunes Store account and see if the purchases are reflected in the Purchase History. If they are, immediately change the password to your iTunes Store account, making sure it's not something easily guessed or looked up. Then go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Whether or not they'll do anything for you I don't know, particularly if you didn't change the password after your iPod was stolen.
If the charges are not reflected in the Purchase History, then it's most likely a fraudulent charge to your credit card directly rather than an unauthorized purchase through your iTunes Store account in which case it will be up to your bank to handle.
    Regards.

When I got my ipod I made an account with iTunes right from my ipod.Yesterday, I made a password lock to get into my ipod and I couldn't get into it even though I did the correct one. Now it says"connect to iTunes" BUT I can't because I never registered on the computer. I've tried holding the home and sleep/wake button for 10 sec and then only the home for 5sec and that might have reset it, but it didn't help. If any of you guys know what to do so I can unlock it I would appreciate it VERY much.

If you haven't done so install iTunes on your computer. http://www.apple.com/itunes/

    hI, bella
I also met this issue a few days ago and I finally find out how to transfer music from iPod to computer:
    1. Plug your iPod in and wait for the computer to recognize it.
    2. Open up 'My Computer' and under 'Devices With Removable Storage', double click and open apple iPod.
    3. Click on 'Tools' at the top of the window and drag down to 'Folder Options'.
    4. Under the 'View' tab, find the subfolder called 'Hidden files and folders'.
    5. Select the option 'Show hidden files and folders'.
    6. Click 'OK'.

    No.

    That is correct. This
iTunes Match on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    says:
When you enable iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and replaced with your music in iCloud.
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.

My iPod touch was stolen.. and recovered.. but the kid that stole it cleared my iPod and "made it his own".. it has a password that makes me unable to use it.  (He won't give up the password).  I have tried to do the restore thru iTunes but the "note" from iTunes says it is unable to restore without the current password.. is there anyway around this... HELP !

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.
