G3 nano is synced w/ my IBM T40 laptp.  want to sync it on new imac.

I want to be able to use my nano w/ my new imac. when i installed itunes and then connected my nano, the library was not there and the nano was not recognized. what do i need to do to get the nano to work on my new imac ?? also, once i get the nano to work on my imac, i won't need to access my itunes on the laptop any longer. thanks.

Sounds like you need to back up your iTunes library to Disk (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382) or use this article to transfer your iTunes library using your iPod: (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329)
Next, because you iPod is formatted for Windows, you'll need to format it for Mac. You can use iTunes to Restore the iPod on the Mac, or use Disk Utility. If the iPod still does not show up, try this article: (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410)

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

  • HT2305 I have a new computer with Windows 8 OS.  Do I need to install drivers so that my Ipod Nano will sync with this new computer:

My daughter gave me a new Ipod (Nano) for Christmas.  I had no problem download my songs from my old Ipod (Shuffle) to the new one.  However - since I do not buy songs on a regular basis, I did not buy a new song until 4/29/13.  Now for information...sometime in March my old laptop died, completely.  I had to go buy a new one - which I did and this new one has Windows 8 Operating System on it (which I hate, btw).
Now, when I bout a song on Tuesday, the song did not go to my new Ipod.   I tried everything and finally had to talk to a tech - who was very kind in helping me and we did get all my songs from Itunes to this new computer.  I thought the song I bought would then go on the Ipod - but it did not.  I had already hung up from the tech - since we had been talking on the phone for about an hour.  He informed me that he was giving me a "courtesy break" because it has been over 90 days since my new Ipod was purchased ---- just my darn luck!
Anyway, I have figured out on my own that the new Ipod Nano is not synced with the new laptop with Windows 8.  I have been trying for the last 2 hours to get it to do so and in doing so, found out that Windows 8 is not mentioned in any of the help forums.  So...my question is:  Do I need to install drivers on the computer or what?  I will not be purchasing anymore music from Itunes until I get this matter resolved.  Any help will be apreciated. Thank you.

  • How to sync iphone on new iMac, coming from Vista, without loosing data?

    Hello people,
I'm in an awkward situation as i think most people are when dealing with this kind of problem. I searched the forum for something like this but with no success.
So my question in detail is: I came from a PC world, with windows vista and now i'm a new Mac fan. Bought a new iPhone and loved the device so much that i had to try some Mac notebooks and iMacs to see what's what. And guess what after 1 month i ended up with a new iMac...and so far i love it even though i still have alot to learn in OS X. Since i had my iPhone 3G synced with my old PC with ITunes i can't sync now with my new iMac without loosing everything on it, including photos, applications, music and other stuff.
So how can i sync it without loosing that data????
I googled on the net for an answer and i found some answers to a method that would allow to further sync my iPhone and still keep the actual data in it. In other words make iTunes ignore the existing data in it, but i found it rather too much of a hassle, having to modify strings of data in some files in the Library.
Also i found another method but that might work only from a windows machine to another windows machine, with itunes library exporter.
So knowing my situation what would you do?
PS: IMHO syncing to erasing all data is NOT an option. let's say that i would venture in creating new photo albums to sync them, and put the music back but what about the apps? I bought so many of them and some with vital information/settings that i could simply not bare having them deleted.
    HELP PLS!

App settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app are not stored with the application in your iTunes library. 3rd party app settings and data are stored with the app on your iPhone and included with your iPhone's backup - which is created and maintained by iTunes during the sync process.
Once again - you need to transfer your iTunes folder and library from your PC to your Mac. In case you missed it - your need to transfer your iTunes folder and library from your PC to your Mac. All apps downloaded via iTunes or via your iPhone should be in your iTunes library. App settings and data created and stored by an app are stored with the app on your iPhone and included with your iPhone's backup.
When syncing with another computer - even with the same iTunes library and iTunes account, your iPhone will be erased of all iTunes content but iTunes should create a backup of your iPhone first - which includes settings and data created by a 3rd party app. You can always manually create a backup for your iPhone with iTunes on your Mac before syncing.
Your iPhone will be erased of all iTunes content first, followed by selected iTunes content via your iTunes sync preferences being re-transferred to your iPhone. If any 3rd party app settings or data is lost, you can restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.

  • Can't sync iPhone to new iMac

I follow all the knowledgebase advice: I've authorized iTunes on the new iMac, I've unchecked 'auto sync' in Preferences. I connect my iPhone directly to the computer via USB. I right click on the device and select 'Transfer Purchases', iTunes gets to the 'Transferring Purchases from iPhone "x" Waiting for changes to be applied' and then hangs. I've even tried 'erase and replace', and again it hangs. I'm stuck. What do I do?

I can't sync my iPad either. Help!

  • Syncing IPodTouch with new iMac

I have had an iPod Touch for about a month and a week ago I got a new iMac. Without thinking I synced it with the new machine and things began to happen. I lost my upgrade, but have got it back thanks to Apple Care help. I do not have all my photos and some music. Many of my songs won't come over. Same with photos. If anyone has a suggestion, I would be very thankful. It synced just great on the g4 power book. I think therein lies the rub, but don't know what to do about it.
    Jerry

Only using third party software can you transfer photos, videos and music off an iPod (the exception to this rule is iTunes Store purchased content). I recommend that you use Firewire Target Disk Mode to migrate your iPhoto and iTunes libraries from your older Powerbook to the new iMac:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Remember to consolidate the iTunes library before copying it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Keychain sync issues between new iMac and older 10.4.11 machine

I am having a tough time since purchasing a new imac - I can get mobileme working reasonably well with few issues if I have keychain syncing disabled on both machines but I would like to get to the bottom of this and be able to sync it automatically.
Here is a description of the issues I am getting in spite of performing the regular advice to set up a new account once the issue starts and move all my stuff into that new account.
After a few syncs I get the advice "please enter the password for "(myname), Aos Powerbook G4 17""
Now the A has a double dot (umlaut ?) above it and the o has a ^ above it - not sure how to get that with this keyboard or I would have done it ...
This box is empty below this dialogue (expecting a passcode) and whatever password you enter (I have tried all of mine repeatedly over several weeks now !) it just doesn't accept it. It is as if someone else in a parallel universe has your mac and has entered a new passcode !
Occasionally I will get 'the keychain on '^&G*)(" has been altered do you wish to merge' (not exact text but something like) and I am no longer able to send emails without entering my email account password first and every so often.
There are other weird symptoms too - but does this trigger anyones grey matter ?
IS there an issue between 105 and 104 syncing ?
    Thanks
    Andy

I should also point out that I have an iphone and this poor puppy has tons of apps and data associated with the apps on it......
Anyone have a clue as to how I back this up with the new pbook user account I have created to sidestep the keychain issue ?
The only option it shows erases the iphone's applications and their assoc data from what I can see ....
    Thanks
    Andy

  • Sync iPad with new iMac

i just bought a brand new imac and i connected my ipad thinking i could easily sync my whole itunes library over.  My actual itunes library is stored on my PC at work.  When i connected it, it said it would erase everything on th ipad and sync from itunes library on the mac (of which there isn't one yet).  I'm confused.  Honestly I thought this would be a snap for such highly intelligent products.
    Adam

Your iTunes library is stored locally on your computer. It is not stored by Apple/iTunes on a server somewhere so that your iTunes on a new computer recognizes that library and sync with it. You said it yourself that your iTunes library is on a PC at work.
You will have to copy that library to the new iMac and then iTunes on the Mac will recognize the iPad and sync accordingly. This kb article from Apple explains a number of ways that you can do this. Included in this article is the transfer purchases feature which you can do from the iPad to the new Mac, but it will only copy purchased content into the new iTunes library. The link is actually at the bottom of this post. The Atomic browser is giving me fits today.

  • HT1420 my iphone 5 does not sync with my new imac

I just bougth a new imac and I cannot get my iphone 5 to sync with it........any help would be appreciated

You've authorised your Mac's iTunes via the Store drop-down menu, and what happens when you try to sync it ?
If you are getting a message that all content on the phone will be replaced then have a look at this page about syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • HT1351 I have a 4th generation ipod nano (i think that is what it is) and i have all my music from my old computer on it. i recently got an iphone, i have it all synced up to my new computer how do i get my nano to synce to my new stuff?

How do i get this done?

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Copy all the media from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • I can't sync apps with new iMac.

On all the other sections, like music, there's a sync box I can check or uncheck.  For some reason on apps there's no box I can check.  My iPhone shows it's still syncing with my old computer.  Anyone know how to fix that?

I fixed it!! I just had to authorize the new computer hihi

  • Syncing iphone and ipod to new imac

I have a new imac (bought yesterday) and when i hookup my ipod and iphone it tells me that it will erase the device and load my music off the imac. No music on the imac yet! What am I doing wrong

You need to transfer your iTunes library from the computer that you were syncing your iPod and iPhone with to your iMac, along with all other important data on your old computer that you will need or want to access on your new iMac, such as photos, documents, etc., etc.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone cab be synced with a single iTunes library on computer only, and the same for photos transferred to an iPhone - from one computer only. When doing this with another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.

  • Sync my existing iPad to new iMac

Hi, I have just bought a new iMac computer which i have just tried to sync with my existing iPad.  I used to sync this iPad with my old laptop and when I now try to sync with the new iMac it says it will wipe all the date and replace with (not a lot) on my iMac!  I don't want to wipe whats on the iPad (photos).
Also on my iTunes on my old laptop I have lots of music from old CD's that I downloaded. How do I get these onto my iMac????? The  only ones on my iMac are the ones I paid for on iTunes!  They are however on my iPad so can i somehow transfer them from that onto my iMac?

Mike has answered half your question and the rest is implied. As he said, Migration Assistant will transfer your data (and applications if you wish) to the new computer. Note: Migration Assistant migrates the entire account, not just data so assuming you've started up your new computer and begun using it, after you've run MA you'll have two accounts - the old one from your previous computer and the one you've been using on your new computer. For this reason it is sometimes more convenient to grab any new files you've created on the new computer and put them on a flash drive and then erase the new computer and reinstall the OS so you can use Setup Assistant to recreate your old account on the new computer. (You'll have to restart in Recovery Mode to do this. See Mike's link above.
Having moved your data from the old computer to the new one you can sync your iPad and everything that was on it will still be on it.
