What's the diference between the 820-0923-A AV A/V Wings and the 820-0971-A AV A/V Personality Cards?

I bought 8 or 9 of them over a 3-year period, but it has been several years since purchasing my last. They don't show up at eBay very often, but if you're patient, you'll find one once sooner or later. Global Village manufactured the COMM II slot modem card for Apple, that shipped with the high-end, Power Mac 6500 models. This same card was also used in the beige G3s. That's why you'll see both models listed as compatible with the modem, when one is listed at eBay. For the purpose of identification, you can check out this auction, which shows the card. The newer, soft-modem used in the B&W G3s/early iMacs is either the OEM Apple card or the Global Village retail version, both of which are completely different and incompatible with the beige G3 series. The Apple/GV 56K modem card for the beige G3s has one limitation, in that it can only support one 56K protocol at a time. The card can be flashed and reflashed to support either K56flex or v.90, depending on the ISP to which you're connected. In terms of performance, it's identical to the external Global Village TelePort 56K v.90 modem. If I were to choose a better one, it would be the external US Robotics 56K v.90/x2 modem (model 5689).

Differences Between "Wings" Personality Cards?

So, I know that there are generally three types of Personality Cards for the Beige G3s. However, while trolling eBay for the fabled Bordeaux card, I noticed something really odd; there seem to be two different types of the Wings card: 820-0923-A, and 820-0971-A. Both seem to have the same features (Audio I/O, S-Video I/O and RCA A/V I/O). Is there any special difference between them? Is one better than the other?

Beige PowerMac G3 Personality card

I was recently given two powermacs, one of them a Beige G3 tower. I opened the case, hoping to install a PCI graphics card so i could use it with a VGA monitor, and i noticed that the personality card was snapped off completley behind the back panel. You have...er...had....the Audio/Visual version of the card with RCA and S-video ports, sometimes called the "Wings" card. This is the same card if the vendor description is correct:

I think the price is about double or triple what it should be, but the Apple code numbers are included:

Searching Google by the latter, I found a cheaper one:

Use those numbers to search the web. The audio-only version of the card, nicknamed the "Whisper" card, will also work and should be cheaper as a lot were pulled to upgrade to the Wings card. I haven't found the Apple codes for that one.
Also consider a Mac Users Group (MUG) for parts, Here are some that Apple has listed in the UK:

We're finding that these MUG lists may have outdated info, so check around.
On my side of the Big Pond, Beige G3s are selling for under US$25 dollars on the used market so don't spend too much on a p-card. Some people have bought these inexpensive cast-offs to have as spare parts source for their working Beige G3s. That could be cheaper than buying a bare card.
Post back if needed. The Beige G3 is an easy computer to work on and learn from, and there are a lot of us here who have modified, upgraded and gotten legion service out of these Macs. I have two Beige towers, one heavily upgraded running 10.3.9 ad the other a nearly stock 333mhz running OS9.

Audio out - audio in via personality card to capture internet streaming ?

I'm trying to capture internet radio programming using my beige G3 with the A/V personality card.
Can I just loop the audio out (via miniplug and/or RCA plugs) to the audio in (via miniplug and/or RCA plugs) to capture/record internet radio ?
The sound comes out of the audio board just fine to my speakers, and the audio in works just fine with an external radio.
Is there any danger (like frying computer) is just trying it ?
I'm using OS 9.1 and Toast 5 Titanium.

There's no need to even go that far with getting copies of your streams.
If you go to http://www.panic.com/audion/ and DL the Audion 3 for OS9 (don't forget to get the serial #, it unlocks it entirely), it's now free. (YAY!!)
Unlike iTunes, it has a recording function, that can make .aiff's or .mp3's, then you get an editor to clip the tracks apart into the separate songs. Works like a charm.
Also, the station tracker is still compatible with Shoutcast and set to maximum you can get a 1,000 streams - waay more than the presets in iTunes. Give it a lot of memory if you're going to take the BIG gulp on the stations though.. can run a bit flonky at times if you don't.

Set up itunes account with two different credit cards

Is it possible to set up an existing iTunes Store Account with two different credit cards?
I am currently registered with a personal card but wish to make one purchase for work (Lion OS) using a company credit card.
many other sites let you choose what card to pay from, multiple addresses, etc. but I don't see any options from apple site.
for this purchase I am considering:
1. going into the "edit payment information".
2. editing all the info related to the company card and address.
3. completing the purchase and download
4. going back to the payment info and putting back my original personal informaton.
there must be an easier way -- or is this the only apple offering.
any advice appeciated. TIA.

It is very clearly for people with a single iTunes account and they want to use multiple credit cards for purchases on that single iTunes account.

I bought Lion through my company, which means I logged into the App Store with my company's credentials, of which I have my company credit card registered.
You mean your company paid for it. You are simply the one who did the purchasing using company funds.
I now have a new iMac of which I want to install Lion. Apple allows you to install this same install multiple times on your own personal machines. I had to remember which account I bought Lion on so that I logged into the App Store correctly. If I would have logged into my new iMac with my personal account, I would have then bought Lion again, of which I didn't want to do.
But you did not purchase Lion with your personal account. It was purchased on your business account.
If you want Lion on your persona/home computers, you will need to purchase it.
I also wanted to install iPhoto. I bought iPhoto on my personal account. I had to then log out of the app store from my company account and log back in using my personal account to install iPhoto or I would have just bought iPhoto with my company's credit card, of which I would have been in a good amount of trouble.
Imagine if I bought 3 or 4 apps a week and these apps were scattered across my business account and my personal account. Each time I wanted to install these apps on one of my multiple machines in my house, I would have to remember which account I bought the app on. or go to my purchases or which there could possibly be dozens of apps in each account.
I would hope that your company requires you to track purchases you have made with their money.
And I would think that you would want to keep track of all business purchases so you can get reimbursed (for the purchases you made on their behalf). If/when you leave the company, they can get company owned software that you purchased with their funds.

Is there a way to order more than one type of card at the same time from iPhoto?

I would like to order a number of personalized cards from iPhoto, but I don't see a way of ordering them at the same time. It looks like they will all have to be separate orders. Is this the case or am I missing something? Otherwise, I pay more for shipping than I am for the card...in which case, I will just look elsewhere.

Mystery ATI card

I have recently acquired an old ati pci card from a g3 and it has an av in, s video in and a tv out as well as an old monitor port. I have no idea what it is and I was wondering if and how I could find a driver for it.
867 mhz G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1.25 GB RAM, 60 GB HD, 3 Monitor Display

Build-to-Order B&W G3s that shipped with the "A/V bundle" included the graphics card that you have - the ATI XCLAIM VR. It featured the Rage Pro chip and had 4 MBs of onboard SGRAM and an expansion slot for an additional 4 MB SGRAM SO-DIMM. The stock Apple/ATI Rage 128 graphics card that shipped with most B&W G3s was actually a newer/faster card than the XCLAIM VR. Unlike the beige G3s that shipped with the A/V personality card, the B&W had no onboard video I/O options, so the XCLAIM VR filled that hardware void. Mac OS 8.6 and newer versions have built-in support for the card, with the included ATI drivers. I actually installed that same card in a (pre-OS X) 7300, and used the ATI Universal Installer 4.2, but I didn't attempt to use the video I/O ports. Apple's A/V bundle included a software CD with "Avid Cinema," for video editing.

Where is personal info in templates from?

In the templates drop down, Pages fills in some personal info in most of them- name, address, email address, etc. Where does it get this information? About a year ago I changed my email address and templates is using my old address. I know I can change it when I turn the template into an actual document, but I'd like to change it at the meta level to completely get rid of the old address. Anyone know?

It should be in Address Book, in your personal card.
The easiest way to get there is to open the Address Book application, and select the menu item *Card > Go to My Card*

What are the steps for installing applet on real card?

It has been a month that I am fighting to install applet on java card and now I am really confused where I am going wrong?
I have 3 sets of cards --
1 ) Gemalto (no specific name known) - ATR is --3B 6D 00 00 80 31 80 65 B0 84 01 00 AC 83 00 90 00
As gemalto customer support doesn't know about this card so I was unable to find its card manager AID. The standard Game expresso card manager AID does not work with this card.
2 ) Pre- Personalized NXP card-- This is JCOP 3.1 complaint pre-personalized card but i am not able to perform Init- Auth using a GPShell script. I have key but some how GPshell script does not work.
3) NXP Smart MX family cards(IBM JCOP v2.2 41) -- These cards are not pre-personalized. So what i am supposed to do with these cards so that they will be pre-personalized?
I will be really thankful for any kind of reply.

Any ways I got rid of this error as my card was supporting mode 201 of GPShell instead of mode_211.
But even with the mode_201 I am getting error as card cryptogram failed.

mutual_authentication() returns 0x80302000 (The verification of the card cryptog
ram failed.)Also I read on java forums that FF01 means I need to use Security 1 and kevar as FF. But I have basic question. The number of retries for authentication for a card are limited. And i have already done it for 5-6 times

T430s Smart Card reader cannot read some cards

Hi all,
I have a T430s with a smart card reader.
Turns out that some cards (including, as it happens, one of my personal cards) the reader can't read. It either does not respond at all, or gives an "unknown card" identification. The very same card, on the very same laptop, using an Athena USB reader, works flawlessly.
I'd say it's a reader malfunction BUT some other cards are read perfectly by my built-in reader... Why would the reader refuse to read certain cards?
Any ideas? Anyone seen something like this?

If the driver for the media card reader doesn't work,
I found your computer in the personal system reference and saw you actually have no Smartcard reader. But you do have the 4-1 media card reader. Which is specific to all machine types of the T430s.
With a little more investigating I found out that
You have a Ricoh Multi Card Reader on the computer. This reader is able to read SDHC cards, but to get it to work fully you have to update the driver.
Here is the link to the driver. Which this driver supports XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

Multiple Credit Cards

I use my laptop for both work and pleasure. Because of this there are certain purchases I need to make using my work credit card and my personal credit card. Is there any efficient way to do this?
The other day, I had to make a work purchase so I changed the credit card account, made the purchase and then went back to my account info and changed the card to my personal credit card. Apple didn't charge my card for a couple days apparently and at that point both purchases showed up on my personal card.
Can anyone help me with a solution?

How to create My Card so that I can send ical invitations

Hi,
Am trying to send out invitations on iMac OS X and get the response that I must set up a personal card in contacts first.
Ive done this, the advice from past support groups is to mark the card as 'My Card' however there is no option to do this.
By the way does it matter if My Card is on iCloud or iMac address book?
Finally, since synchronising my iPad with iMac and backing up to the iMac Ive lost the 'Invite' option on my iPad calendar.
Any thoughts?

I'm using my personal iTunes account to publish my church's podcast, but I want to change the name of the publisher from my name to my church's name. Can I do this within my account?

I've even tried to set up a new iTunes account, but it defaults to my first and last name because of the billing address being linked to my personal card.

Your name is normally carried in the 'itunes:author' tag and appears in smaller print above the title. You can change either this or the title itself in the same place in whatever program you are using to make your podcast and reupload the feed. You don't need to take any further action; the Store willn probably take a few days to update.
However, if you are going to change the title be careful: some podcast creatioin methods give the rss file a filename drawn from the title, and if you change the title it may change that. You can't have that happen because the Store will lose contact with the feed if its URL changes (there is a way round this which I will explain if you really need me to - do not proceed without checking on this). If your feed filename is something like rss.xml or feed.xml then there isn't a problem about the title.

If you truly have a G3 with a Bordeaux personality card, it uses an on-board hardware decoder. You didn't mention what version of OS 9 you're using, but if it's 9.2.2, you're probably trying to play a DVD using Apple DVD 2.7, and it won't work. Try uninstalling DVD Player 2.7 and associated INITs (Extensions) and installing DVD Player 1.x (I use 1.2, I believe 1.3 works as well.) Keep the previous player and INITs backed up somewhere just in case.
You can find Apple DVD Player 1.3 on the 9.1 install disc and 8.6 update, IIRC.
