G31M: Can't change "On-Chip SATA Controller" in BIOS

I have the G31M motherboard and I want to change the "On-Chip SATA Controller" setting in the BIOS to AHCI. However, I only have one choice: "IDE". I can't even disable it. And yes, I have SATA II drives connected to the SATA ports.
So why can't I change it?

Global website is not every other country, it's global.
You are missing my point. If I "google" this motherboard and all the pages I get from vendors' websites and the USA MSI website tell me it supports it supports AHCI, I don't go check out other MSI websites as well, be it global ot whatever.

Websites occasionally have errors and I'm trying to determine if this is one. If it is an error, those "other" sites would
have made the same error if they took it from the USA site. I see what information I receive.
Again, I can appreciate the occasional error. But like I said, this error has apparently been around for such a long time that all websites that sell this board have been able to copy this error. Something that shouldn;t happen with a big company like MSI.

I'm not sure why you'd be stuck with $80. If it's found to be an error and the board does not support ACHI, contact
the reseller and explain that it does not and according to their specs it does. You should be able to get an exchange
or RMA.  I would expect the seller to help you out. Let's see what information I get.
Again, I could not care less about the $80. I know I could get it refunded or get it replaced for another motherboard if I wanted. But will they refund me the countless hours I spent building a prototype system around this motherboard? Of course not. As they shouldn't.

Please do remember that we are all users here. None of us, not even the moderators and administrators, work for or are paid by MSI. We're trying to help.
And I truly appreciate that. I honestly don't see me attacking or blaming you people. So I'm not sure why you got that idea. That perhaps is the disadvantage of the internet. In real life, you can hear the intonation of my voice and see who I'm addressing when I say something. On the internet, people take things the wrong way constantly. So again, I'm not attacking you or any other people here that are trying to help me.

    I bought Ipad 2 wi-fi 3G, from Verizon, Is posible to change a Chip´??

    The Verizon 3g iPad uses a mobile technology called CDMA. CDMA does not use SIM cards or anything similar, it basically works off a hardware identifier for the device that's built-in to the packet radio and registered with your provider. CDMA is pretty much used by Verizon in North America and several countries in Asia.
    Most of the world uses the GSM technology that's the basis of the AT&T 3g iPad. That's the one you want if you plan to use 3g wireless service outside of the country.
    The WiFi feature on both systems works identically. The only stipulation is that you be near a WiFi access point.

  • Can nokia change my C7 NXP PN544 (44501) chip

    I am in INDIA...recently i have problem with my c7. after updating to anna it lost connectivity (bluetooth, wifi, network, FM)......when i reached to a nokia care they told me the mainboard is faulty...and they cant change because nokia is not providing the mainbord to them.....my warrenty is over ...so i have asked to the expert about the problrm but they had probably said that NXP PN544 (44501) chip of antenna replacement can solve this problem......
    my phone is working fine in manner of touch UI, audio player, camera....
    plz if any nokia representative is here then reply me for this....

    Why can't the change your mainboard?
    If the handset is under warranty (and in warranty condition, IE no liquid/physical damage).
    To answer your question though, I would assume that no, Nokia can not change the chip you have described. Most Nokia Care's are level 2 repair centres whereas a Level 3 repair is required.

    I can change it to 6.

  • P45NE02 managing the jmicron controller & ICH10R controller in BIOS

    Can anyone shed light  on how to manage these controllers in the BIOS?  Under integrated peripherals, there are selections for:
    Extra RAID/IDE Controller
    This item allows you to enable/disable the onboard RAID/IDE controller.
    RAID Mode
    This item is used to select RAID mode for the JMicron RAID controller. There are three
    options: IDE, RAID and AHCI.
    And then clicking on intergrated peripherals we see:
    On-Chip SATA Controller
    These items allow users to enable or disable the SATA controller.
    RAID Mode
    This item is used to enable/disable the RAID function for SATA devices.
    Which entries control which controller?
    Thanks!

    Extra RAID/IDE Controller = JMicron Controller
    On-Chip SATA Controller = ICH10R integrated controller (primary controller, not "extra" = Secondary Controller
    Which RAID Mode setting is relevant for which of is the controller is pretty obvious as the relation is indicated by the contiguity of the options.

  • Can I change the loops chords via a controller keyboard or other?

    Hi,
    I'm new to composing with GB. I mainly record my real playing on my Korg Keyboards through a mixer and a USB audio interface but I just got a bundle of Apple Loops that come with Sountrack and want to use them and create music with the loops.
    MAJOR QUESTION: Can I change or modify a loop's notes? For example, it plays a C major, can I change a part of it to be F major then another part G major and so on or are they unchangeable?
    I'm also planning on purchasing the new Korg MicroX which is also integrated with GB via Plug-in and will be able to save my GB settings and Korg settings through GB for each project. Pretty cool. But just wanted to make sure on that chord change issue.
    I know I can use the controller to play the GB software instruments and play melodies and will be able to hook the MicroX as midi to modify the combies and sounds while recording in midi mode but would also like any clues on the loops please.
    Thank you in advance...
    Carol

    That simple huh
    Thanks man... sorry for my dumb questions... I'm still new with Software editiing, I'm always used to play live and edit on my onboard sequencer since I have a Pa1xPro but I love the loops in this GB and intend to use them fully!
    Thanks again...

    Can I buy just 1 Iphone and use it in 2 locations: USA and Brazill.
    While in USA using the account here under my husband’s phone account (our home is here)
    HOWEVER, I work in Brazil and there I have a phone account on my name.
    Can I use the same phone (where all my information is stored) and just change the chip of phone company?
    Seems pretty silly on the first moment on reading the questions, BUT for me, it means a lot as I could have just one phone, as already have to carry so many other electronic stuffs!
    Look fwd your advise

    Depends on where you buy.
    ALL U.S. iphones are carrier locked and CANNOT be unlocked.  If you buy an iphone in the U.S., then you will not be able to put a different SIM
    Some countries sell unlocked iphones.  These can be used with other SIM cards.

    Well... I think this board is crap:) hehe....
    but hell... I will not change it but I will change the way it recoginzes my hdd
    so...
    if I insert a PCI sata controller will my XP boot normaly or will I have to reinstall xp?
    Is there an easy way to do this?

    Check the package containing the PCI controller.  It should say it if supports XP or not.  I suspect most do.  Then do as the manual for the card recommends.  It should be very straightforward.

    No, unless you break something or install the wrong RAM, new RAM is not covered by warranty/AppleCare of course.

  • Using a garmin sat nav device, when planning a route on the mac it always defaults to the same far away location as the starting point. How can I change this?

    Whenever I start route planning using Garmin Connect, the map opens at the same distant location every time, by default. How can I change this and make it open at my own location?

    Hello Cgifford,
    Welcome to National Instruments Forums.
    To output your signal to the PFI lines,
    you can use external connectios between OUT0 and PFI lines. You can also use
    the backplane to do so by routing into the same RTSI line.
    1)
    On the SCOPE and FGEN, the name of the
    terminals are actually “PXI Trigger Line x/RTSIx” but on the 6602 you might
    need to route the signal using the property:
    You can also use the DAQmx route signal which perform the same opperation.
    2)
    This will depend on the frequency of
    your pulse train. If this is lower than about 10 ms, then you can probably
    place this on a loop and start and stop the acquisition every time. If the
    frequency is higher than this, you will have to use:
    -       Scripting on the FGEN side (read more)
    -       MultiRecord Fetch (more information in the scope help file
    section “Acquisition Functions Reading versus Fetching”).
    3)
    The short answer is yes. The longer one
    might depend on how tight you need the synchronization to be (us, ns, ps). For
    very tight synchronization, you should look into here.

  • Addonics SATA Controller / KP Update

    A while back I posted regarding the Addonics ADSA3GPX1-2EM SATA controller card causing an immediate KP whenever I powered on the attached "SataVault" 2 drive enclosure. I also have an EP2 card from Sonnet that I was going to try. However while reading the documentation, I noticed the statement that the card needed to be in a "1 lane" PCI slot. Checking using the Expansion Slot Utility revealed that the ADSA3GPX1-2EM was installed in an "8 lane" slot. So, before changing the card, I checked out the online documentation for the ADSA3GPX1-2EM and found that it too is a "single lane" card. I don't remember seeing anything about this in the installation instructions and it is pretty deeply burried in the documentation. At any rate, I moved the card to a slot indicated as being a "1 lane" slot and rebooted the computer. So far I have been able to power on the drive enclousure without getting a KP. I have done so several times now just to be sure and all seems good. I thought this might be a useful "heads up" for others with similar problems with PCI SATA controllers. I really don't completely understand this "lane" thing so if anyone wanted to shed some light.....

    PS Do I remember reading somewhere that drives connected to a Sonnet E2P controller are not bootable?
    That is correct. The Sonnet and the Addonics cards do NOT provide boot capability on the Mac Pro. The FirmTek 2-port SeriTek/2SE2-E SATA PCIe host adapter provides boot capability with the PCIe PowerMac G5 but not the Mac Pro.
    The ONLY Mac Pro PCIe controllers that I have tested that provide boot capability are made by Areca. The ARC-1221x eight channel host adapter can boot the Mac Pro with RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, 10 or JBOD configurations.
    AMUG installed the new Areca firmware that supports EFI booting and started up a RAID 6 eight drive boot drive on the Mac Pro. Xbench disk scores went through the roof
    You can learn more about the ARC-1221x here:

  • Vantec PCIe SATA controller, Solaris x86

    I've searched all the online resources I can find, and don't see an answer to this. Is there a driver for this SATA controller for Sol. x86, and if so, where would I find it?
    Output of uname -X:
    System = SunOS
    Node = p810
    Release = 5.10
    KernelID = Generic_139556-08
    Machine = i86pc
    BusType = <unknown>
    Serial = <unknown>
    Users = <unknown>
    OEM# = 0
    Origin# = 1
    NumCPU = 4
    Card is a Vantec UGT-IS100R, you can see more about it here:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=V13-2602
    PC is not COTS but homebuilt from various components. Motherboard is Asus M2N68-AM SE2. The card has one hard drive attached, a Western Digital Caviar, 1 TB. The card's a RAID controller, but with one disk it's obviously not doing any RAID stuff, and it recognizes the drive as a non-RAID device.
    Boot drive is a 320 GB SATA connected directly to the motherboard (not to the Vantec). Windows 7, Slackware 12.2, and Solaris all installed just fine; Win7 and Slack recognize the Vantec and attached drive with no problems. Solaris seems to be working well in all other respects.
    Thanks!
    Phil

    A little progress, and some more information.
    1) I had downloaded Solaris 10 longer ago than I thought; I now have the latest-n-greatest (10/09). Output of uname -v is Generic_141445-09. This upgrade eliminated a message I was getting during boot with the older version:
    ahci_port_reset port 1 the device hardware has been initialized and the power-up diagnostics failed
    2) The Vantec card uses the JMicron 363 chip. After doing more web surfing, I found this thread relating to JMicron and OpenSolaris:
    http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=376370
    Essentially I'm getting the same results as the OP in that thread, except that prtconf already shows my card in AHCI mode. cfgadm -la shows the controller there; cfgadm -c configure results in "failed" status for the controller; and no matter what I can't get it to recognize the attached hard drive.
    I don't want to upgrade the card's firmware; having that drive available under Solaris isn't as important as having the card and drive work under Win7 and Slackware, so if I just have to live without it I will. So ... any other ideas? Thanks!
    Phil

  • K8T Neo-FIS2R - P20378 Sata Controller option missing in BIOS. Cannot disable

    A few hairs left....& those are disappearing quickly.......!!!!
    I currently have Windows XP PRo running under a Promise SATA Drive. (NO RAID REQUIRED)
    In order to allow for a fallback situation (which I am still using swapping between WIN XP & Vista),  I found a 20GB IDE Disk attached it to the standard IDE controller  & did a clean install of  VISTA ULTIMATE on the 20GB Drive...So Far so good.
    Next I booted up changed the boot sequence to pickup the 20GB IDE drive first ...Vista Came up....Still so far so good.
    Then I found my mouse ...& both USB printers were not recognised.....2 days later I have them all going okay....one problem at a time....
    The only issue left ... I cannot see the SATA Drive attached to the promise controller.....I have tried following a few of suggested methods to load the promise drivers that are around......still no luck.  Most of the posts I see are around installing VISTA on a SATA drive...my case is just seeing a SATA drive this not the O/S disk.
    Moving on ...no luck with the Promise Drives ...so I have tried changing to the VIA Controller by unplugging the SATA cord from the Promise controller & plugging into the VIA Controller ... I boot up & still no luck...The BIOS picks up the VIA change as I see a option to use  <TAB> to setup  RAID during bootup.. I do not want RAID only a single SATA Drive.  One of the things I read was to turn off Promise  via the BIOS settings . The manual indicates I need to access this by going to the "Onboard PCI Controller option", here I should be able to turn off the P20378 S.ata Controller...
    my problem is ...I can see only the Lan Controller as a option to disable/ enable the other options including the P20378 S.ata Controller.. are not visible.. hence I am unable to disable the Promise SATA Controller within the BIOS..... HELP  pretty please.....   I can happily run VISTA but I do not have 150GB visible to me & my current disk space is tight.....I need that 150GB ...........
    signed...frustated NOOB
    PS I have the most recent drivers/ bios etc according the MSI's Online S/W synch tool (which I run in XP Pro as the vista version fails.... DOH)
    MB --> K8T NEO FISR2
    Memory 1GB
    Appreciate your help ..... TA

    I agree with Hans, as far as we know there are no drivers for Vista to use the Promise controller, yet.
    Same old, same old, Vista and no drivers.
    You just have to wait and hope there wil be Vista drivers for the Promise controller.

    The Hard disc in this model is same size as SSD 2.5" drive?

    Hi
    As mentioned above: the SATA controller is supported so you will need to use a SATA SSD drive usually it should not be a big problem to upgrade the notebook with an SSD drive in some cases it could be possible that the SSD firmware needs to be updated but this depends on the SSD drive manufacturer
    However, the SSD drive is much faster than a common HDD. Therefore you should notice a faster performance
