G31m3-f restarts each night, freezes at Xp opening page

I'm new to the forum, so if my post is improper or needs more info just tell me.  I have a G31M3-f mobo running XP SP3 with an e2180(set to 222fsb) and 2gb crucial memory.  Each night the computer restarts itself and freezes at the xp loadup page(with the little scanner line at the bottom).  If I manually power down, it reboots fine most times, but other times it runs a disk check.  Some times the bios resets itself as to drive boot order, etc.
I have tried 3 different hard drives, cables, power supply, memory, etc. all known to be working.  I have switched from S3 mode to SI mode.
Any suggestions before I RMA it?

My specs are :
MSI G31M3-F motherboard
2 (2x1 gb) stick Crucial ballistic DDR2 800 ram
160 Gb Samsung SATAII hard drive
Unknown DVD burner
Intel 775 E2180 2.0 ghz
XP SP3
EVGA 8600gt 256 mb video card
600w Ultra Power Supply
It has AVG set to update at 2:22 a.m each morning.  It looks like it manages to update properly each night. It also runs the AVG scan at 3:33 a.m each night and doesn't report any trouble with the scan.  Thi sis for my 13 year old son, and I don't trust him to do manual updates, so the auto scan must stay on.  I can change the time till 6 p.m. when we are home and see if it locks up then.

  • Feature Request: reopen each PDF at the last open page

I love many things about Reader for Android, but I read many books at the same time, so for me it is missing one crucial feature: please enhance Reader to reopen each PDF at the last open page.  Currently if I switch from one PDF to another, when I return to the first, it forgets what page I was on, so there's no way to use Reader for my real reading of PDF books.
Everything else about Reader is fantastic,  so I really hope you can make this improvement.
      Thanks
      Jim

Thanks Jim , for appreciating Adobe Reader and  for the feature request on remembering last opened page for a pdf . It is one of the top few priorities for us. We would try to include this at earliest in  our next major update.
    Thanks again.

  • Why does my finder restart each time i try to open a folder ?

    Hi,
Since today, everytime I click on a folder or try using the Finder, the color wheel appears, takes a few seconds, then relaunches the finder. However, I can't access any of my files through Finder. I can access them using any program, but not with the Finder.
I have tried creating a dummy account, but it has the same problem. I have tried opening folders using the Terminal command open but the Finder crashes again. I have also tried resetting my Finder preferences but without success.
Any help to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

are you able to run a disk verify ? if so, dose it report any errors?
Another option might be open the console; and see if any error message pops up when the finder crashes.

  • I have Windows 7, Firefox 8. Any other browser will play YouTube except for Firefox. I have installed and ininstalled Flash, restarted each time. The You Tube page also looks funny.

I have also tried http and https.

The latest Adobe Flash plugin adds a 64-bit player as well as the standard 32-bit player. Youtube seems to set a cookie that conflicts with the 64-bit version and therefore causes you to see a black screen when trying to play videos. All you will need to do is go to the Firefox menu on the top left, then go to History -> Clear Recent History. From there, make sure both Cookies and Cache are checkmarked (feel free to uncheck everything else) and then make sure that the "Time range to clear" setting has "Everything" selected. After that, click the Clear Now button and you're done. You should now be able to play Youtube (and presumably) other videos again.

  • What do you do when your iPad freezes up. The message "iCloud Backup appears and reads "This iPad hasn't been backed uo in 6 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi." Each night I plug my iPad in to recharge.

What do yoou do when your iPad freezes up. My iPad is plugged in each night and is connected to Wi-Fi. This morning the following message appears:
    iCloud Backup
"This iPad hasn't been backed up in 6 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."
I press OK and it does not budge. I try to power off. The red arrow appears but it does not slide to power off. The iPad has simply frozen on the home page.

Try resetting it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then releasing.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • How to trigger an integration process at a certain time each night.

I have an integration process to collect messages that I would like to trigger at a specific time each night. I looked at the Wait step in order to do this, but it looks like you can specify a fixed time, or a repeating time.
If I used 'Wait until Specified time', I could specify the time, but the date is a problem; I cannot fix it as a certain date because it will only work for that date only.
If I take the date from a field of the message, I'm not sure what will happen since it looks as if the date would be updated each time a message is received to the collective process.
I could take the date from the first message, and store it as a variable, then use that in the wait step, but since the date is not in the correct format, I would need to use xpath somehow to do that.
Alternatively I was thinking about  using a wait for event step, and raising the event from a background job, but this only seems to be available in ABAP Workflow directly, not from the Integration Process Editor. Is it permissable to modify the generated ABAP Workflow and add a Wait for Event step to allow this to happen?
Does anybody have an opinion on the best way to proceed?

All of a sudden I keep getting message that my computer must be restarted and it freezes. I restart it and within minutes it happens again. This is a 27 inch iMac with latest system and software. Any ideas of what is wrong and how to fix it?

10.7.5 is not the latest system, 10.8.3 is. However your message sounds like  a Kernel Panic, does the message look similar to About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages? If so, then if you can get the machine to restart normally then please post the Kernel Panic Report which you can find by following directions in How to log a kernel panic. Please post back with the KP log, and we can take a look. However if the machine continues to not restart then my guess is a hardware failure suck as a hard disk or failed RAM in which case you should take it into your local Apple Store or AASP for repair.

  • Power Cycling Thinkvision LCD Monitors from the Mains Board each night

    Hi
Can anyone confirm whether IBM / Lenovo have said its ok to power cycle monitors at the wall socket each night, rather than relying on power saving modes?
I have about 50 Thinkvision monitors -  L151, L170p, L171p, L192p, L193p, L200p, L201 - all hung off the same circuit and I want to flick the circuit breaker each night, regardless of whether the monitors are on or off.
I can't see any issues with this - but would like IBM / Lenovo to confirm as well.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Great write-up, erik - thanks!

i have an imac g4 purchased Dec 2003 runnung OS 10.5.8.  It runs fine with airport off, but when I turn airport on it freezes with the black page,  "restart by holding power key . . ."  I swapped the airport extreme card with the one in my ibook G4 (purchased same date and running same OS).  No change in operation.
I am running wifi from verizon.  Recently changed from mifi2200 to jetpak 4620 in a 3G location.  Ibook running fine, desktop freezes.  If I can boot desktop in safe mode and get airport turned off in time. then I can reboot regularly and imac runs flawlessly with no wireless.Have run disk utilities and TechTool Pro rebuild etc, but nothing has worked.  How do I fine the culprit?

the power logix thing was really sad. apple changed so much after 10.4.8 that there wasn't a viable way to patch the software.
That statement is precisely why I don't believe in blindly updating the OS, especially in a non-standard machine.
We can't expect third parties to support us forever, and it is shameful to break something that works fine, except that we updated the OS....
I think that any upgrade or modification to a machine or the OS greatly increases the risk of trouble or incompatibility with current configuration and "new" system files.
After all, the component or software could only be tested as far as the current OS version when the component or software was released.
Beyond that, we are all "beta testing".
Following a beta tester protocol, and applying updates to a cloned system drive first, is a prudent way to approach updates, and not only for older, heavily modified machines.
After 10.4.8 and moreso with Leopard, the focus is primarily on Intel architecture, not PPC architecture.
Like it or not, we are all updating to the abyss of the extinction of our machines, unless we can be satisfied with the last stable version of OS that works well with our hardware and software.
I wish they would include the latest pkgs at least with software update.
Yes, having individual packages, rather than lump "OS X 10.x.x" updates would be nice.
This way, one could update as one sees fit. That is to say, for example, fix the Quicktime, but leave my Network alone, etc., etc.
In all fairness, Apple does provide for some breakdown of updates, but I believe there is much room for improvement, especially, as you point out, with regard to the core services portion of the OS.
Until then, I'll leave Software Update disabled.......

  • Why does Safari close each night, overnight?

Why does Safari close each night, overnight? I leave my iMac computer on overnight and Safari always stayed open until I closed it.  This closing nightly is new within the past two months. I have Safari version 7.1 and OSX 10.9.5. Is this a setting I can adjust? I am not interested in updating to Yosemite at this time for a solution.

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

No sound.  Mute is not checked, volume all the way up on iTunes and on status bar.  What am I doing wrong or missing?  I restarted last night and it worked before that but not since, any one have any ideas?
    Thanks, Rob

First off did you go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > And is the correct output selected?
Any red light coming out of the headphone jack? If so, you'll need to re-set the little switch in there by inserting a 3.5mm jack carefully in & out 20 odd times. Or grab a toothpick (non-conductive) and a flashlight.
Tried anything else that produces a sound? On restart do you get the chime? Perhaps check into Audio Midi Setup to ensure your output is selected correctly using the cog at the bottom left.

  • Should I shut down my OS X 10.9.4 Mac each night, yes or no? Explain why.

Should I shut down my OS X 10.9.4 Mac each night, yes or no? Explain.

I was just curious if there is any harm in shutting it down each night.
That's the difficult part. You'll get answers both ways. You could call Apple's tech support and the person you have on the phone will tell you to leave it on. Call back, and someone else will tell you to turn it off.
Back in the days of much flakier hardware (I mean, way back), our first computer was an IBM XT clone running DOS 3.1. We always turned it off when not in use. Never had a problem with it. Nor have I ever had an issue turning our various computers off over the past 30 years. I just don't see why I'd want to leave it on, uselessly using electricity sitting idle.
If I have to walk away from it for a bit, I'll leave it on. But if I know it's going to be a couple of hours or more before I get back to the computer, off it goes. Whether it's first thing in the morning, or turning it on again midday, waiting a lousy minute for it to come to the desktop from a cold start rather than more quickly coming out of sleep mode isn't that big of a deal.

  • How do I disconnect a certain kind of connection after 9PM each night?

We have a user who sometimes connects to our Sql Server 2008 database using an ODBC connection from MS Access. Every now and then if he leaves that connection open overnight it creates problem with overnight processes. (I think it has to do with Access and
record locking.) His other connections do not create any problems like this however.
I would like to disconnect just his MS Access ODBC connections after 9PM each night. Is that possible? I guess the next best solution would be to disconnect
ALL of his connections at 9PM but I'd like to avoid this as he sometimes works very late and we want him to have access to the system.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi,
I would not Kill anything because it might not always result in favorable output.
Can you run the script to disable login for time being and then run script again to enable it. Its the same login which uses ODBC connection you are referring.
I was also thinking about Logon trigger which would be enabled for only time you require it. Perhaps Logon trigger would be correct one
