G31m3-L V2 audio question

The manual says the audio Realtek ALC888 is 7.1 capable with "jack sensing". How do i connent up a 7.1 or 5.1 set of speakers when we seem only to have a line out (Lime green ) available. IE 3 ports at rear not the 6 one gets for 5.1 setup.
Thoughts appreciated.
Found this re 7.1
MSI Reminds You...
• To reach the 8-channel sound effect, the 7th and 8th channels must be output from the front panel if you purchase the mainboard with 3 audio jacks.

I was asking how one connects a 5.1 speaker setup to this board when it has only 3 audio ports ie Line in, Line out and mic. I gathered from your post that the software rearranges the mic and line in port to act as ports for connecting 5.1 speaker setup. that is what I take from the jack sensing statement in the specifications.
I am using a cheapie 2.0 setup but have a spare 5.1 setup sitting idle and wanted to try that on the board.
is the above understanding correct?
Update ran the realtek CPL and when you plug in an input it asks which input you just pplugged in. So if you plugged in subwoofer in mic it then notes this and uses this port for the SW. That is the way I think it works. Where I caused my confusion was I had only a 2.0 setup plugged in.
Sorry to confuse you.

  • Can't edit multiple tracks - plus 2 easy audio questions

I have a sequence with 1 video track and 6 stereo audio tracks. I set an in and an out point. The area on the clips in the timeline between the two edit points highlights, I hit delete. Normally, the tracks between the points should disappear as the two segments come together and form one great edit.
But all the tracks do not highlight and edit. The video track and stereo audio tracks 3+4 and 5+6 highlight and LIFT off. But audio tracks 1+2 do not highlight or edit. And the whole sequence doesn't close together where the edit should be.
Only way I have been able to overcome this is to use the razor blade tool, cut each track individually. Highlight them all, and then hit delete.
This didn't use to be the way. FCP used to edit through one track, 3 tracks or all tracks, no problem.
Two audio questions. How do you stop the waveforms from drawing onto the clips in the timeline, in order to speed up FCP?
How do you get the audio in captured clips to be a Stereo Pair, from the outset?
Thanks to all you who help!

Is it usual for FCP to bog down on a 4 minute piece when audio wave forms are turned on??
    <
No. Should run fine. You get up into 6-12 audio tracks, FCP gets all moody and pouty.
But it depends on your system's capabilities and how well you have chosen your sequence settings.
Audio waveforms n FCP are a cruel joke compared to many other NLEs. Often easier to leave them off in the timeline, use the waveform in the Viewer and set markers for hooks in the audio tracks.

  • Easy way to add more audiotracks??? + Environment midi/audio question???

    Hi!
Let's say, when I open a new project I have standard 24 audio tracks.
But when recording I see that I will need more, is there an easy and fast way to add more tracks?
As I see it now, I Have to run the Logic Setup Assistent, add more tracks (let's say 40). Reopen the project, go in the environment, create a new audio object for every track I want to add, double click it and assign the correct track to 'channel'. If I need to add 10 more tracks I have to go over these last steps 10 times. Am I missing some handy quick trick here?
Also, the second part of my question:
when I open the environment window, sometimes it only shows "midi" and the "GS instrument drum mapped" and some other times it shows "audio" and an "overview of my mixer". This seems to happen at random and I don't know why. The mixer view is what I want (especially when I need to add tracks as mentioned before), but when I get the midi view I don't know what to do to get the audio/mixer view. Any help?

    Ok,
There is a way so you wont have to do the 10 setups.
Run the Setup Assistant and when it asks how many
audio tracks you want, always tell it more than you
will possibly need. I use 101. I know I will probably
never use that many but they are already and waiting
in case I do need more. This way you dont have to do
anything except go to the track menu and select create
new or double click the arear below the last
track and what ever track is highlighted, a exact duplicate
will appear. Then you just click and hold on it to make it
whatever kind of track you need from the menu that appears.
This first answer takes care of the second question. Since you
dont need to go into the enviroment to hook up new tracks.
Just so you know if you click and hold on the name of the layer
Midi, instruments, clicks and ports or whatever another menu
will appear letting you choose what layer you want to go to.
    This is the easy way!

  • T410s/T410/T510 DP- HDMI, audio questions, survey

    Hi,
after all the confusion concerning DisplayPort-audio and the T-series, I decided to find out for myself and test it at my local Lenovo dealer.
As my dealer had not a single HDMI and audio capable output device in his shop, I brought my own Medion MD 20226 LCD TV, which has 2 HDMI-in ports.
The idea was to use a 2m DisplayPort->HDMI-cable provided by the dealer in order to connect the T410s in question to my little TV.
Background: Due to the misleading information from Lenovo concerning the last generation T400s/T400/T500 models and their audio over DisplayPort issue (no audio at all), I expected to get a picture without any problems but that I would need to figure out how to enable the sound by changing some settings inside Windows 7.
What happened: Actually neither me nor my dealer were able to get ANYTHING out of the DisplayPort, when using the DisplayPort->HDMI-cable. There was NEITHER video NOR audio!
I should point out that at the time being my dealer only had T410s models without the (maybe) switchable NVidia graphics.
Another point that I want to emphasize is that, after 45 minutes of trying everything we could to make it work, we switched to the T510 that was standing right beside the T410s in his show room. Unfortunately I was too confused to ask what kind of graphics setup this machine had, but the result was the same: no video, no audio at the TV.
As it is apparent that there are quite a lot of confused Lenovo customers out there that have similar questions:
I HEREBY FORMALLY ASK FOR A DETAILED AND IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION/CLARIFICATION OF POSSIBLE DP->HDMI, DP-AUDIO AND DP->HDMI-AUDIO ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT T410s/T410/T510 SERIES (all combinations of graphics cards).
Of course I think that it would be best if one of the Lenovo engineers would take care of that in one of the Lenovo blogs.
But until then, it might be a good starting point to ask those of us, who already have a T410s/T410/T510.
So I just start right away:
    MODEL:                   T410s (NUK39GE / 2912-39G)
    used GPU:              Intel GMA 5 / QM57
    DP->DP-video:       not tested
    DP->DP-audio:      not tested
    DP->HDMI-video:  tested->not working
    DP->HDMI-audio: tested->not working
As I said, I was only able to test it at my local Lenovo dealer and I gave up after around 1 hour of testing. So it might be, that someone who has more time and resources (different adaptors) might be able to get it running.
So to all of you out there with a new Tx10(s), please take the time, find your next HDMI-TV and try it.
And to Lenovo: as long as there is no official statement concerning this, I will keep asking for an official response ;-) (and THIS time, don't blame the chipset, as the new Intel-Calpella has all the HD-video/audio goodness one could ask for: wiki article on Intel Calpella and its DP features).
    Thanks for reading all this!

  • Bluetooth / audio question

Hi Guys - i have a question which may be more related to a particular application http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=2 but seeing as no-one there seems to be able t help me (and it may in fact be a Mac, rather than 'app' related issue - I thought i'd try here)... ok, so here's my problem....
ight, I downloaded RW from Line 6 a while back (version X / Mac OSX). All was going well - great app then....(and this may be just coincidence) I tried to pair my Vaio with the Mac (unsuccessfully as it happens). After having done this, when booting up (which now takes a while) I get an alert saying
    "Bluetooth Audio Failed
There was an error connecting to your headset / ignore / stop using your headset"
Irrespective of the option I select, when RW does eventually fires up, there is no audio. I can see the app is playing OK (the master dials are registering) - but no output. Same problem even if I turn off Bluetooth on the MAC...
Any ideas guys? - I use the app for teaching and this is a real headache...

This whole Bluetooth thing is new to me ...
    1. Does a Bluetooth headphone set (for music only - don't need a mic for phone calls) require a Battery(s) to operate? If so, how often do you have to replace the battery(s)  say for 1 hour per day of use?
There is stereo bluetooth headsets that can be used just for audio listing but most bluetooths are made for phone handsfree use, if you want to listen to audio through bluetooth you have to verify the headset support A2DP profile for streaming audio.
    2. Anyone recommend a very good headphone set that is comfortable & great sound? Do I have to buy something specific for the DX from Verizon? Moto?  Or can I walk into any store and buy a Bluetooth Audio headphone and expect it to work? I *really* don't want to spend $150+ for decent headphones.
Basically all bluetooths can be used but it is a prefrence of what bluetooth works for you but I use Motorola H720 from http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Motorola+-+H720+Bluetooth+Headset+-+Black/9755234.p?id=1218167395767&skuId=9755234&st=bluetooth%20headset&cp=1&lp=5
    $59.99
    3. Are there any "gotchas" using Bluetooth for Audio music?  e.g., sound quality issues? interference?
Your streaming audio wirelessly and the quality can reflect this, if you want the better level of audio through a bluetooth give this a look at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+Mobile+-+Mobile+Behind-the-Head+Bluetooth+Stereo+Headphones+-+Black/9828558.p?id=1218180649134&skuId=9828558&st=bluetooth&contract_desc=null

  • Quality of audio question

    Hello there,
Watching Nigel's presentation at MAX I've noticed that there was a question about possibility to stream MP3 within the LCCS framework.
Nigel, could you elaborate a bit on that (after the Holiday ). For example, wether it's possible to use 'codec' property in MicrophoneManager or AudioPublisher to integrate other than Speex audio codec?
The reason I ask such question is that the audio quality - dynamic range, frequency range, sampling rate - for my project is of significant importance.
Any recommendations as to how to approach the task of maximizing audio fidelity would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Igor Borodin

Infact I said the Flash Player only has "encoders" for voice codecs (but it has decoders for much larger set of a/v formats, like MP3 and H264).
Basically encoding is usually quite expensive so the player only has encoders for low quality / low processing power formats (voice for audio and lower quality video for webcams).
Decoding is most of the time less resource intensive than encoding, and if available can leverage hardware accelleration so the player can supports higher quality formats.

  • Hopefully Simple Audio Question

I am doing a highlight film for a local high school and I have a question about the music. At the end of the game highlight sometimes the song is not completly over so I cut it to end it at the same time as the video. My question for you is how can I fade out just the last 5 seconds of the song and not fade out the whole song. I don't want it getting softer and softer through the song. I think you do it by cutting the last 5 or 10 sec. of the audio (song) and make it an independent clip then take that clip and fade it out. Will this work or not. Thanks. Also I am having a lot of trouble adding text to my video. Should I just do it in motion and not even mess with it in Final Cut. Thanks

press Option W to turn on clip overlays.
then press p to change to the pen tool.
on your music track create an audio keyframe about 5 seconds before the end (just click on the line in the audio track using the pen tool)
create another audio keyframe at the end of the music, and drag this one down to the bottom of the track
... yaaa, you just created an audio fade
alternatively just apply a crossfade transition to the end of your audio track and make the crossfade last 5 seconds long

  • Help with audio question please

    New guy here,
I have a MAC G5 with Premiere CS4. I do not prior Premiere experience. I've worked several other NLE packages so I'm not a rookie either.
Anyway, I'm routing the audio through an analog mixer and into a Canopus ADVC 110. I've been able to capture video and audio from a DVD player with Premiere's audio hardware settings set to (Built-in line input/Built-in line output). I've been able to capture both video and audio with the hardware setting set to (Built-in digital input/Built-in line output) put when I scrub on the time line or try he clip in he preview window it will not play back when I hit the space bar or click on the play button. When using (Built-in line input/Built-in line output)everything is fine.
Here's my question. How do I preview and adjust the audio prior to capturing it? I can hear it just fine when I'm capturing but I can't preview the audio levels to know where I'm at.
I thought the analog audio going into the Canopus converter would out put the audio as a digital signal since it's being exported to the MAC via firewire.
Hope someone out there is smarter than I am about this.
    Thanks!
    Jim

Based on the concept of Unity in a gain chain, if you set the levels properly at the output of the analog mixer, then they should be fine coming into the software after the A/D conversion. As long as you don't clip the digital input, you can adjust levels internally on an audio timeline, so it is always better to err on the side of too little rather than too much.
Digital maximum is -20 dB which is equivalent to 0 dB VU in the analog world. This provides sufficient headroom to avoid clipping in most circumstance.
Try a few different levels and see what works best for your needs.

  • Simple audio question (I think)

Thanks everyone for answering this question which I think is fairly simple. I have a new TV that I use as the monitor for my computer and connect my Itv to. Currently I have both the cable, my computer and ITV hooked up through HDMI. Whenever I switch between the different HDMI inputs I obviously do not continue getting the sound out from my ITV. The question is I would like to be able to leave my ITV running while it is playing music to my stereo and surf the internet with my computer output on the screen. I know I could obviously play Itunes on my computer however the ITV seems to have much better output quality. Anyone has a solution for this?
I look forward to your answers. Have a great day and thanks again.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Not without some other device to feed audio through. Your tv will only play from one input at a time, when you switch to the input from your mac/pc, it will always cut off the audio from other inputs.

  • Multiclip multi questions (audio question and syncing question)

I have two questions concerning multiclip editing:
    1. How do you select the audio from one angle to remain the audio throughout as opposed to the audio track changing every time you select a different video source?
    2. If one camera in a three camera set-up stops recording for a technical issue and then goes back up, is there a way to sync both of those files to one angle of a multiclip? If not, is there a way to make them separate angles and sync via input on three angles and on output for the fourth angle?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. In the Viewer's Playhead Sync Menu (upper center), select "Video"
    instead of "Video + Audio".
    2. Sorry, neither of your ideas will work. Multiclips work with actual media
clips, so two clips will be two angles; and the sync method (in, out, timecode)
is the same for all clips.
I suggest you assemble the two files from the camera in a sequence (using
identical settings as the clips), sync them up exactly (with a little space
between them), and export them using the same settings to make a new clip,
which you can then import and use for your multiclip.
    Have fun!
    Les

  • Quick audio question......

For my whole house audio, I've got to use stereo outputs, but I also want to use the fiber optic cable at the same time for 5.1 aTV downloads.
My question is, will aTV allow me to use both audio outputs at the same time?

    Drum Phil
I'm not using the stereo (phono) outputs, but I do use both HDMI (to my TV) and optical (to my receiver) at the same time and they both work fine with no apparent override.

  • Final Cut Express: Audio question. Please help!

Hi, I'm new to Final Cut Express and I have a random question.
I have a 2 minute video that I put into my timeline sequence. I added photos over some of the video and now I decided that I want to delete the rest of the video and audio since 2 minutes is too long. Well, now it will allow me to delete the video but not the audio. Does anyone know how to make in/out points for just the audio? and to cut it? Every time I make an in/out point, it only allows me to do it for the video. Now, I have this two minute-long audio that I need to get rid of that I just can't seem to delete/cut.
If anyone out there can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks.
    ~Alice

You're making In and Out points in the timeline right? Make sure the autoselect buttons are black for the tracks you want to select.

  • H.264 Blue Ray audio question

I have seen this question brought up before but not answered fully.
    The background:
i need to make a video that is
    (Video)
    File format: MP4 H.264
    Aspect Ratio: 16 x 9 (1920 x 1080)
    NTSC HD 60i (interlaced)
    Square Pixel
    (Audio)
    48kHz
    24 bit stereo
When exporting i selected H.264 Blue Ray and set the video accordingly (set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97, upper, square pixle) the problem I’m having is setting up the audio to be 24 bit. From my understanding AC3 only supports 16 bit but what about Dolby Digital can i get 24 bit audio if i use it and what setting do i change to get 24 bit audio at 48 kHz?

Do you HAVE sound in your comp?  You'd be surprosed by the number of embarassed "no" replies.
Did you use the AE Render Queue?  You have to specify that you actually want to inclue an audio track in the th Output Module; it isn't automatic.  Most people don't even bother with audio when rendering from AE.
But here's the big thing: don't use AE to render H.264 files in the first place.  AE stinks at it.  Instead, use Adobe Media Endoder.  You Can open an AE project in AME, then make an H.264 of any comp in the project.

  • FCP Audio Question

From the Audio Mixer Tool Bench window I have been monitoring the audio levels of my project to make sure that none of the sound clips above zero. But there is one clip in the movie that peaks at -8. it is a music video that my friend made and compressed that I pulled into the sequence of my film. It is obvious that both audio inputs in a stereo pair want to raise past -8. But they both stop at that level. It is strange because all of the other surrounding clips are free to rise and fall to their natural levels in the meter.
Does anybody know why this happens?
    Thanks.

What do you mean by "...It is obvious that both audio inputs in a stereo pair want to raise past -8..."
Does the song SOUND clipped? distorted? If so then follow the advice youve been given - hopefully it was user error on the transfer and not clipped at the source.
But If the clip in question is a song from a music video then it has probably been mastered and the dynamics squashed out - as is the current trend in music mastering.
In that case what you are seeing is not necessarily a clipped waveform but rather a very heavily limited waveform. Many modern recordings actually resemble one big long square-wave when you view the entire song.
So if it is a song which was mastered for production (especially rock) then you'll never see "natural" dynamics on your meters.
    use your ears.

  • HDMI audio questions

    According to this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4214
    it states that:
"Which type of audio works with HDMI?
Apple supports 8 channel 24-bit audio at 192kHz, Dolby Surround 5.1 and stereo output."
So I have the following questions:
    1. How does one get multi channel PCM music audio out of the mini?
    2. Also, what about just straight stereo rips @ 192kHz/24 bit?
    3. What players will support this?
    4. Since they claim this functionality, what is the big problem with
streaming TrueHD or DTS-HD with movies? What am I missing here?
The reason for 1 thru 3 is that I am considering "remastering" some old
songs for a surround experience to my liking.

Currently in order to get 8 channel 24 audio out a Mac Mini you need to use a mini Toslink cable. Link this one: http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=mini+toslink&x=0&y=0
In the sound preferences set the output to optical.
You cannot get 5.1 output from the HDMI port for some reason. Only 3.1.
