G4 1.25GHz with ATI Radeon 9000 Pro ready for Motion?

Hi there,
I'm looking into an unexpensive way to give Motion 2 a trail, since it won't install on my old faithful G4 dual 500. Should the above configuration be enough? I have an opportunity tu buy the single processor, Airport Extreme equipped version (there were several versions produced the same year).

FYI the 9000 is a AGP (the 9200 is the PCI card)
the 9000 is lacking pixel shaders (where Motion gets it power)
I ran Motion 1 and Motion 2 since it came out on my dual 1.25 with a 9800 and it FLEW
better then a G5 with a 5200 or 9600
with this card (under $260)

you can run motion very well for now on your system
(that page BTW pat is talking about the Standard video card not after market ones)

  • Final Cut Pro with a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

I have an older Power Mac G4 that I have upgraded from 400Mhz to 1.4Ghz and a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I recently bought Final Cut Pro 2.0 and do not want to upgrade the video card yet again. Does anyone know of any work around to get Final Cut Pro to work on this computer?
    Details are as follows:
    Error message -
The installed graphics card does not support the OpenGL features recommended by Final Cut Pro.
    ATI Radeon 9000 Pro:
    Chipset Model: ATY,RV250
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-A
    VRAM (Total): 64 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4966
    Revision ID: 0x0001
    ROM Revision: 113-99703-107
    Card # 109-99700-00
    Model ATY,RV250
    Vendor $1002 (4098)
    ROM ATY, Radeon9000i_A
    ROM# 133-99703-107
    FCode Version 1.87
    NDRV 1.1.0f53
    VRAM 64
Any work around at all would be great. ATI told me to upgrade to 9600 AGP or 9800 AGP. I am not even sure the 9800 AGP will work on this vintage Power Mac.

It looks like http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html you will be able to run the basic Final Cut Pro program but, obviously, its not going to scream. Many of the individual elements of the suite i.e. Motion, Color, are not going to function as they should without a significant boost in several things, memory, processor speed, video card.
In all honesty, you should be running FCP 4.5 or 5.0 which will run very well with your hardware. But since you already have FCS2, (I assume that's what you mean, not really Final Cut 2) hang on to it for when you decide to do what all of us eventually will have to do; buy an Intel based box.
My G5 is fast approaching obsolete, and I'm just waiting for the next version of Final Cut Suite to see how much box I need to go to. Didn't think this time 19 months ago I would be saying that... but time does roll on.
    You'll enjoy FCS2 (FCP6)

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card is conflicting with additional memory

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I have a 645E Max motherboard (MS-6547). I recently purchased a 512MB dimm of Kingston PC2700 Cas 2.5 memory (KVR333X64C25/512) to go with the the 256MB dimm of the same model # above. I installed the memory and my screen stays blank. When I remove the new dimm it runs fine. I did get the memory and the motherboard tested at the store where I got the motherboard and they work fine. I came to the conclusion it was my video card when I removed all my components except the memory and the video card, and turned on the machine, nothing. I did try swiching dimm location and changing any bios settings I thought would make it work. I tried updating the video card drivers and motherboard AGP drivers. If anybody had this problem in the past could you tell me how you got it to work.

I took the board and the 2 dimms to the store where I bought them.  They hooked up both dimms and a video card to the board.  When it was powered up, both dimms were recognized.  After I got home I proceded to determine if another component it conflicting with the memory.  I started with both dimms and my video card the Radeon.  I powered up with no other hardware connected and the screen remains blank.  I remove the 512MB dimm and leave the 256MB dimm in, and powered up and pc booted up normally.

  • 645 Ultra-C and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

    Hi there --
I have a 645 Ultra-C with P4 1.7mhz attached to it. It has 640mb of RAM, Audigy 2, and brand new ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It's running WindowsXP
The issue is that upon installing the ATI card into the machine WindowsXP is freezing and then recovering with an error message about a device failure. In checking the system log I see an error message about the ATI driver being stuck in a loop.
I am using the driver I downloaded from the ATI web site along with the ATI control panel software also downloaded from the ATI site. The drivers are the latest.
I am able to regain stability by disabling hardware acceleration in Display Properties. This is less then ideal.
I'm using version 7.2.0.1130 of the AGP driver. I'm not sure which BIOS rev, it would be the one the motherboard shipped with. However I'm unable to flash the BIOS really since I do not have access to a 98/ME box. As I understand it I can only flash the BIOS from a 98/Me startup floppy on a non-FAT machine. LiveUpdate gives me an error message about the service not being started and that LiveUpdate only works with MSI graphics cards.
In the BIOS I’ve switched the primary video card from PCI to AGP. I’ve even downgrade from AGP 4x to APG 2x using the AGP utility.
    Any ideas?

flashed up to 1.90 via LiveUpdate2, after pulling ATI card and running on tnt2 card, and now I'm cranking

  • Will Dell 2005FPW work with my Radeon 9000 Pro?

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro with 64 MB VRAM in my Quicksilver and I am looking to purchase a Dell 2005FPW. Will my old 9000 Pro drive it? Will it look okay? Or do I need to upgrade my card?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Apple Forums!
Yes.... it has one ADC and one DVI connector. As long as the Dell is DVI, no problem. If it's VGA, get an adapter for the DVI on the card.

  • Can I use an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in a Mac Min

Looking to buy a Mac mini.
In 2004 I upgraded the graphics card in my dual processor 450 MHz G4 desktop with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card to run a 20-inch Cinema Display.
Now my G4 has died (probably the power supply and I'm being told it's not worth it to fix---buy a Mac mini!)
But I've read that the graphics card in the Mac mini is not stellar and I'm wondering if I could reuse the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in the Mac mini. Would this be a good thing to do?
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

There are people that claim to have hooked up a PCI-e 1x card (yes, the Mini uses PCI-e). But that requires some serious hardware modifications including soldering, a PC power supply, and so on. But that card is an old AGP card so even that wouldn't even work for what you've got.

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and 1440x900 resolution on G4?

I am looking to purchase a new widescreen monitor (Viewsonic VA1912WB) which supports a native resolution on 1440x900. I am trying to determine if the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro card will properly support this resolution. Anyone have a clue, or tried it yourselves? Thanks!

I had found that page and had drawn the same "hopeful" conclusion that you are suggesting. I also looked in my displays preference pane and noticed quite a few options that aren't on the ATI site as "supported displays," which leads me to believe it's possible.
I've checked out some other boards (pc based) and they are able to make it work but it involves modifying all sorts of driver files. Stupid PC's!
Anyone else out there have the ATI card and the ability to test that resolution?

  • PPC G5 with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro monitors not getting signal

    hi there.
I have a PPC G5 with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro graphics card and I cannot get a monitor to work properly. I am trying an old Apple Studio Display (circa 2001) and a Viewsonic VA520.
It seems like the Apple display should work, but all I get is a black screen. I ran it through a DVI to ADC adapter and had it working for a short period of time, but for some unknown reason it went back to the black screen.
The Viewsonic gives a 'NO SIGNAL' screen and not much else.
Both of these monitors have worked on other G5's. I am guessing this is a graphics card issue.
I appreciate any kind or helpful words! Thank you.

I'm having a similar problem with the G5 not recognizing a VGA monitor on either video out. I have no problem using two monitors with the DVI inputs but I need to use a VGA video splitter for a third screen. It worked at the beginning of this week, and now it refuses any VGA out, even without the splitter, just going into directly into the VGA in of one of my working monitors via a DVI-VGA adapter(i've tried different ones). I read another post about trashing "displays" and "windowserver" preference files but i haven't yet tried that..any clues??

  • ATI Radeon 9000 PRO Mac Edition supported under Tiger ?

    Hi all,
we are still using OS X 10.3.x for our venerable G4 AGP mac. Back in 2005 when Tiger was the new OS, we were told that our ATI Radeon™ 9000 PRO Mac Edition graphics would not be supported under 10.4.x. Has this changed? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard yet, but would like to use some Tiger features as Mail 2.0 or improved iSync.
    Thanks for any input ...

So is this why all my fonts are screwed on my G4 MDD dual 1.25 using a ATI 9000 Pro?
Seems as tho it works perfectly fine when i had 10.4.10 but when 10.4.11 was released all my fonts are screwed. Even when booting from a OSX CD. I installed 10.5 and still doesnt work.
    looks like i need a 9600.

  • [Athlon64] MSI K8T NEO-V : incompatibility with ATI RADEON 9800 PRO

    Hi,
I read all the subjets on this forum about Radeon problems with MSI K8T NEO motherboard.  Most of the peple can't use their graphic card in all situations.
    My PC is :
    -MSI K8T NEO-V
    -AMD-64 3200
    -Power : 400W
    -ATI RADEON 9800 PRO
-1 Go DDRAM (2x512 in single channel)
    -Hercules Digifires 7.1
    I bought a new MSI K8T NEO-V with AMD 64.
The problem is that I can't use the computer in the games with AGP 8X even if I try to enable-disable all the options possibles in BIOS and Windows (fast write ...) : The computer freeze (screen disapear as if there was no video signal), reboot or return to Windows disabling the accelerated mode.
But in AGP 4X, all the game run without problem with all setups of BIOS !!!
I tried all the drivers (the new and the old drivers).  Even if all are updated, it freeze.
There are no BIOS update for my motherboard. I saw that some people had BIOS update for compatibility with some Radeon cards ...
So, I don't know how to repair the problem because AGP 8X is AGP 8X and not 4X, and my Radeon run fine on other computer, and nothing say that Radeon 9800 pro don't run on this motherboard.
Does someone have the solution to make it work ? Does a new BIOS or driver update exist somewhere for Radeon cards ?

What Bas said about 30+ amps on the 12v rail does have merit. Even if you don't use it now there may come a time when you want to upgrade the system and certainly you won't want to buy yet another PSU then. A High end vid card now takes almost as much as the CPU to operate. Now days the 12v rail is the most important. Past systems regulated everything off the 5v railk and 12v was used mostly for powering drive motors. Now though the MB's use the 12v line to regulate all the voltages for the CPU, Chipset and other features as does the Vid cards. 3.3 volt lines are used for memory so we hardly use any 5v nowdays.
You have an older viod card and that does not eat much 12v but if you upgrade the most likely peice will be the vid card. You could go through this whole thing all over again if you are not careful to plan for that now with a new PSU purchase.
If the computer shop gives you a bunch of bull about power needs havbe them stop by the forum and we can help set them straight on this. There is more than enough data from MSI and historical data here that suggests that 16a on the 12v rail is certainly not enough. Hey I am not trying to sell you anything. I am just trying to help you get it right. The computer shop is the one trying to sell you something we just feel they are selling the wrong junk.

  • 1360 X 768 Resolution with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

Maybe this isn't the right forum, but I've been surfing for hours with no luck so please forgive me if this seems out of place.
I output a show recently to QuickTime at 720 24 fps. I'd like to watch it on my 40" Samsung 720 HD TV. I cabled up and managed to get a picture in nearly fullscreen and nearly appropriate aspect ratio, but it doesn't look all that hot. Samsung tells me I want to set my Display settings on my Mac to 1360 x768 to achieve optimum picture. I told them I don't have that option in my settings. They said I probably need to update my driver on my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card. I did, still no 1360x768 setting. They said I might want to install the ATI Displays utility. That doesn't seem to offer anything useful. ATI's online support says I might want to install ATI's latest ROM updater, but I can't find any such thing even though the web seems full of mentions of such a beast.
Anyone have any ideas or any suggestion as to where I should post this question?

  • Issue with ATI AIW 9000 Pro

    I built a new system with a MIS 865PE NEO2 / Intel P4 2.6 G / 1 gig DDR
The system works fine until I try to capture video through the 9000.
Also I cannot capture with the VCR function.
The problem is this, when I try to capture using Pinnacel 8 using mpeg, the video file it creates cannot be opened. And when I record using AVI the video file drops 80% of the frames.
When I use the TV function, the VCR either does not capture, or drops 80% of the frames.
I've updated windows and ati with the latest and greatest drivers, but that still does not help.
Is there an issue with the 9000 PRO and MSI 865PE NEO/2?

Is there a method of throughly testing the sound output from my Realtek AC97 Audio Driver?
I am in the process of building and testing my new system.  Everything has been fine until this....  I was in the process of troubleshooting my capture features with my ATI All in Wonder 9600.  Unable to capture the audio and tired of trying I resumed my DOOM3 play.  This is when I noticed the difference in my play sound.  It is as if some channel of the processing is missing. I have checked all of my settings (I can find) throughout the system and cannot find a solution.  I fear I have somehow blown my sound.
When this sound issue is resolved I still need to successfully capture my video and audio from my camera.  All my drivers and software are current per the ATI FAQ site.  The process seems to work like a charm until I play back the file and there is no sound.  My crazy connector is plugged into my MoBo Line In.   If any of this is familiar please comment.
    Thanks

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac AGP (driver needed for OS 9.2?)

    Hi guys!
    How's everybody doin?
I just picked up a used ATI 9000 AGP 128 MB (as an upgrade for my G4 Quicksilver 800 MHZ).
I'm using 2 HD's (one with OS9), the other (with OSX)
I think OS 9.2 will do ok without the need for a driver, but I just wanna make sure ...
    Thanx
Everyone is very helpful around here
    Mike

    Hello again Carl, and Dave
I know it's been a while since we last talked about this issue. Well apparently, I do have OS freezing problems
with 9.2 and the ATI 9000 Mac Pro - take a look:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4289264#4289264
Wonder if your driver would solve this?
But can I put your driver in the system while it's still functioning with the older OEM video card back in?
(that's the only way I can get the system not to freeze)
    Thanks

  • Driver for ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB

    Greetings,
I'm buying the abovementioned card from a friend and need the driver for 9.2.1. This was a stock OEM card for PM G4 FW800 and perhaps others.
Will the driver be embedded in the 9.2.1 install or do I need to source it elsewhere?
Where on the Apple site can I find the driver or this card? I tried Support | Downloads but to no avail.
