G4 17" aluminum on 10.4.11, what's the newest OS version it can use?

I have an old powerbook g4 and it's been on 10.4.11 for a long time, there's a few things I wanted to run but they won't run on the old OS, what's the newest I can upgrade too?
Anyway to find out if my applications will function above 10.4.11?
If not I'm not sure I want to bother.
I also heard that there was a rebuild option, for a few hundred they'd replace anything that was damaged.
Here's the info from the system profiler:
Hardware Overview:
Machine Name: PowerBook G4 17"
Machine Model: PowerBook5,7
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.67 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.1f1
Serial Number: W8510-----
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled
Version: 1.0

The highest OS you can run is Leopard 10.5.X. 10.6 cannot run on a PowerPC processor. With the clock sped andRAM you have plus the video chipset (should be a Radeon 9700 with 126MB VRAM) Leo should run well.
Anyway to find out if my applications will function above 10.4.11?
If there is a particular third-party application that must run under the higher OS, you'll need to contact the developer. You could ask in the Leopard OS forums but I suspect you'll ge the same answer. Most apps that work in 10.4 should work in 10.5
I also heard that there was a rebuild option, for a few hundred they'd replace anything that was damaged.
The "flat-fee" thing is the "Depot repair." It repairs things that are worn/failed but "damaged" is a little different. It's my understating that the computer qualifies for depot repair if it shows no evidence of physical damage. Dropped or dunked computers need not apply, You'd also need to check to see if the depot repair is still available for a G4. Your model still shows as "supported" from a service standpoint, but what the depot can do depends on parts available.

  • What is the newest PA version for IPC?

    Dear expert,
What is the newest PA version for IPC? Thanks!!
    BR~
    Hedy

I have the exact same problem.
My printer is an OfficeJet 6500 E709a Series.
The current version of firmware on my printer is MJP1FN0907AR.  To me, the downloaded firmware version,
    "MJP1FN0935AR" (dated 30 Oct 2009)
looks like a later version than the current installed version,
    "MJP1FN0907AR".
And nowhere do I see the date of the current installed firmware version.
Come on, HP.  This problem is years old.  Figure it out already.  Either:
    (a) Tell us that our hunch is correct, that the higher-numbered firmware version is newer, so we can override the warning. Also fix the Firmware Download Utility so it stops giving this false warning.
    or,
    (b) Tell us that the higher-numbered firmware version is actually older.
Whichever version is later, also do the following:
    (c) To eliminate ambiguity, post the firmware date wherever the firmware version is displayed: on Printer Status Report, web admin page for printer, and HP Diagnostic Tool for starters.
    (d) Since any table of versions and dates is doomed to itself go out of date (as new versions are released), also publish a rule or pattern we can use to know which of two versions is the more recent.  And follow that rule!
    TIA,

  • What is the highest Firefox version that can now be downloaded on to my Mac OSX version 10.5.8?

When I open the "Firefox" window on my computer, and then click on"About Mozilla Firefox," I read "Firefox Version 3.6.23." I assume this is the version operating now on my computer. If it isn't, because of later updates, how can I find out what the version now operating on my computer is? What is the highest compatible version I can download, and how?

It looks like you have a "Power PC" Mac. The last version of Firefox to support PPC Macs is 3.6. You can try [http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ TenFourFox]. It's a port of the latest Firefox made for PPC Macs. It's not made by Mozilla but many PPC users are happy with it.

  • What are the AME Tables that I can use to get approvers list

    Hi
Please provide me any information about the tables by which I can get approvers list.
    Thanks
    Amit

Tthe application communicates with AME when a transaction is initiated in the application, and then each time an approver responds to the application‟s request for approval of the transaction, until all approvers have approved the transaction. AME records each approval, and recalculates the approver list for a transaction each time an approver responds to a request for approval of the transaction.] As far as AME is concerned it calculates approver list at runtime .

  • Whats the newest system version I can upgrade to that will still work with Adobe CS3 software?

What's the latest system I can upgrade to that will allow me to continue using my Adobe CS3 software?

  • What's the latest Mac OS I can use with my older G4 Mac?

    Hi Everyone,
My oldest Mac, a G4 running at 350 gHz, still has OS 9.2 and I'd like to upgrade the OS to the best version the Mac can handle. I tried calling the Apple CAre hotline and a kind AppleCare specialist asked for my old Mac's serial number, and said I could install OS 10.4.
Well, a good friend of mine happened to have Mac OS 10.4.7, but it won't install. It starts, but goes into basic and states it's hanging.
Apparently, 10.4 is too advanced or, did I do something wrong?
Where on the Apple website can I find which OS would work best on my older Mac?
    Thanks.

If that computer has never had an OS X newer than OS X 10.1 installed in it,
you probably should check the Firmware (boot ROM) version noted in the
OS 9.2 running system's "System Profiler" to see what the firmware version is.
And then see if the computer needs to have the Firmware Update applied
before attempting to install an OS X version into the computer. It will need to
have a running OS 9.1/9.2 kind of system booting the computer in order to be
able to install a Firmware Update.
Lack of the proper firmware update can compromise the computer's hardware.
    • Available Firmware Updates - Mac OS X:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1395
The installation instructions are should be carefully read & understood.
Also, in older iMacs and other early PPC Macs, you have to be sure the
computer's hard disk drive size capacity is correct, if upgraded to a larger
capacity hard drive; some old models need to have a small (8GB) partition
for the OS installation. Later ones don't require this, but may have a limit
on the total capacity of a drive used in certain older computers.
For general specifications on several different Apple hardware (and OS)
products, you could download a fairly good database of information from:
    • MacTracker:
    http://mactracker.ca
To see about purchasing an OS X 10.4 full install disc (aka retail) you could
check the auction sites or local Mac user groups, craigslist ads, and other
local dives or recycling centers; or try calling the main Apple sales support
number as shown in the Apple web site, 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask to speak
to a product specialist for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, if the person you talk to
does not appear to know about the older no longer listed Leopard install discs.
Be prepared to purchase when you call; the phone number is not a retail store.
(You may have to pay significantly more than their asking price for questionable
goods through some auction; and some web resellers of discs sometimes sell
the incorrect discs, in an auction sale, for more than the cost direct from Apple.)
Hopefully you aren't planning on a modern experience in that old a Mac.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What is the newest operating system I can upgrade to with an IMAC (maximum 4gb memory) purchased in late 2007

I have an IMAC (purchased in late 2007) that has been upgraded to the maximum memory of 4GB.   Current operating system is 10.6.8.
How much farther can I upgrade the operating system?

The IMAC was upgraded by a local computer service store because we have dial up.  The person who did the upgrade said I couldn't upgrade any further because the IMAC would run to slow.  Here is what I have now.
      Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 4 GB
      Bus Speed: 800 MHz

  • Just what is the newest Skype version for mac?...

I keep getting messages about a new skype version, or my skype keeps wanting to update but wont... The version I've got currently is version 6.19 (422). Is this the most latest one? Because it never actually tells you what skype version you are downloading/updating to on the website...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just ignore the updating, Skype is maintained now according to MS standard.
See my post about "NO to upgrades". The problem is that there are different versions for every platform, and they have no release policy, so the moment a new version is made for MS Windows, they try to do the same on all the other platforms.
Sorry Skype, but learn quickly never to touch anything that works. So upgrading is something you should never do, that may render you Skype useless. If it works, do not touch it. If it fails, go look for an old version that works. The novelty they have introduced is more bugs and slower systems, integration with Microsoft accounts (which I do not have) and they are probably working hard to replace servers out in the net, with their servers which is doomed to be a disaster.
    Never change software that works!

  • What is the latest OS that I can use on my 2006 MacBook?

    I have a 2006 MacBook 5.1
I recently purchased and upgraded my computer with Snow Leopard. I want to know how high I can upgrade on this specific MacBook.
I also used Adobe CS5 and was curious if any higher update would affect that program
Last question, do I have to pay for the additional updates?
I could've sworn that Apple told me that once I upgraded to Snow Leopard I could upgrade straight to the latest OS with no additional cost.
If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.

    If it’s a MacBook5,1, it’s a 2008 MacBook, not a 2006 one, and can run Yosemite.
If it’s actually a 2006 MacBook, its maximum OS is 10.6.8(for Core Duo models) or 10.7.5(for Core 2 Duo ones.)

    Go to the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Mozilla Add-ons Web Page]''' {web link}
(There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
