G4 400MHz OS 10.2 update to 10.2.8 won't work

I have tried to update from the software updater and the website download. Both times it stops and says a problem was encountered, but it does not tell me what the problem is. My I tunes requires an OS of 10.2.8 or better. What can I do? Should I spend the $ on 10.3 or later? I worry that the model will not work well with it. Thanks for any insight you can offer. Hart

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Some people have difficulty upgrading directly to 10.2.8 and need to do it in stages going first to Mac OS X 10.2.4 Update (Combo), then to Mac OS X 10.2.6 Update Combo and finally to Mac OS X Update Combo 10.2.8. Here is Mac OS X 10.2: Chart of available Mac OS software updates.

  • Applications won't open after Quicktime Update...and fix won't work!

    Hello,
I'm having the same problem as many others: after the recent Quicktime update most of my applications won't open.
I've followed the instructions from Apple at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306043
However, when I do the "sudo" prebinding thing, I get this:
update_prebinding: error: dependent dylib is not prebound
    update_prebinding: error 256 running updateprebindingcore
    Any ideas?! Thanks!

  • HELP!! Updated iTunes and now it won't work

I just updated itunes & quicktime. I can't open itunes, it tells me that I need to have quicktime 7.0.3. which I do. It tells me to reinstall which I've done 3 times.
    Help!!!
    Thank you!

    hello Illinois!
I can't open itunes, it tells me that I need to have quicktime 7.0.3. which I do.
hmmm. is that message saying that you have 7.0d0 installed?
if so, what we're going to try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 install. (that's the version of QT which you are supposed to be getting in an itunes 6.0.2.23, 6.0.3.5 or, as of this afternoon, an itunes 6.0.4.2 installer bundle.)
download and save the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if the standalone QT install goes through okay, will your itunes launch properly?
    love, b

  • Installed latest update, and now ipod touch won't work

Hello, I clicked on the download and install option for the latest update to my ipod touch. I think it was 2.2.1, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, now I have to hold the power button down several seconds, and I see the apple logo, and then the itunes icon with the USB plug which indicates I need to connect to itunes. When I plug it in to the pc, I get prompted that I have installed new hardware and need to install the device drivers. It is not recognized by itunes or my pc. Please help!!

Hello, all, my ipod touch is now working. Here's what happened...I called the tech support line and started going through the automated stuff. It started me with the reset which I had done numerous time. It then mentioned trying a different USB port. I figured it was a waste of time, but then I decided what the heck, so I tried the other usb port on the front of my pc. When I did this, it recognized the ipod in ituned and gave me a mssg that it needed to be restored. I clicked on the restore link, and minutes later it gave me an error message on the restore, and the ipod showed the apple on the sreen instead of the itunes logo with the usb cord. I then tried it back in the original usb port, and received the same windows prompt to try to install drivers that I had been getting all along. I put it back in the second USB port, and got the restore message again with it being recognized in itunes. This time it successfully completed the restore. I know it sounds simple, but if you have not tried a different USB port, be sure you do. Maybe the download jacked up my USB port? Anyway, I'm working again with the 2.2.1 download. Good luck to all!!

  • Updated ITunes but now it won't work

Ok I didn't see this posted anywhere. I downloaded the latest update for iTunes (10.2 or something like that) and had quicktime and all that updated. Everything went fine and I restarted my computer like it said to do but not when I try to open iTunes it says
"ITunes cannot run because some of its required fields are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."
Please tell me there is a way I can fix this without having to reinstall iTunes as I assume that means I have to sync all my CDs to iTunes yet again!

Just so you know, you're not alone in this although my message is saying "required files are missing" instead of fields. I also note from other threads that the Airport connection bug is still in this upgrade for the third upgrade since going to iTunes 10.
This is not good enough Apple ! Check your updater software before unleashing it on the general public. One faulty upgrade is an accident, this has now happened on three. Sort it out or get some competent QA people in.

(Useful bit) : Just downloaded the latest 64 bit installer and run the "Repair" option, iTunes has let me in with library all intact.

  • Updated software now mail application won't work

so as usual, I updated the software on My mac and laptop... it is version 10,6.8 and now my mail applications Version: 4.6 won't open. Says it is the wrong version to work with the software... this is the FIRST time I am unhappy with my Apple products. Now to take the time to figure this out. I know enough to be technologically dumb.   Help
This is on both my desktop and laptop
I can do simple step my step "help"
But don't want to cause more issues.
I've seen this asked several times on different boards~ so at least I don't feel it is "all me"

Restarted twice, unplugged the external drives, re-attached them and everything is working now.

  • Same problem as many others. iTunes quit working after recent update. Re-installed, still won't work. Error MSVCR80.dll not found.

My iTunes quit working after the most recent update.  Re-installed as instructed without any success. Error message APSDaemon.exe MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reported as error 7 (Windows error 126)

Doublechecking. Have you tried the following user tip?

  • Did updat ios6 now my ipad won't work also tried to restore it and that won't work either

ipad 2 is not working thanks to the new great update, have tried to restore it 3 times now and it still will not work

The only thing that I can suggest is keep trying - or try it on another computer.
Did you try rebooting the iPad? Hold down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Maybe if you reboot you will be able to restore.

Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

    Hello jackhennessy,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  I recommend following the steps below as an administrator:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
When you get to the step to uninstall iTunes, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.  You can find the full article here:
