G4: connecting Touch/iPhone to Mac

Here's a potential fix for some of you.
I've used to have trouble connecting my iPod Touch to a G4 Quicksilver with a 3rd party usb2 board.
I noted the battery icon on the iPod did not show a power connection. If I restarted the Mac, all was well. I assumed the usb board had powered down an open port.
What worked for me was to sleep and wake the Mac. Worked whether the iPod was plugged in at sleep or after awaken. Went from about 20% connectivity success to 100%.
Check your battery icon, if it does not show power, it may be a shut down usb port.

I just had a situation where it failed to launch iTunes, iPhoto etc. when I plugged in. The battery would not charge, either. However the battery charged fine from the little power brick.
Well, I tried entering DFU mode to do a restore. The restoration failed, and it is now officially dead, and I'm off to the Apple Store.
Here's the takeaway: prepare yourself for total phone failure. Notably, grab any key data off yur phone, and don't "try to troubleshoot the phone" in any way until you have a window of time where services you need will be available. In other words, mess with it at 9am Monday morning, not 9pm Friday night.

  • I cant connect my iphone to mac

i tried to connect my iphone to mac and xp, but it only charges the phone,,,
the iphone doesnt appear in the itunes nor in any other software..
    please help.
i tried a few solutions such as reseting my iphone, reseting the computer, charging the phone, checking my mac/pc requirements.. nothing helped.
why can i charge the phone , but when i come to use it on the mac/pc it wont connect?

The only thing that is required to charge an iPhone when connected to a computer is a USB port along with the computer being powered on.

  • Connect between iPhone & PC/Mac problem

No connection between iPhone & PC/Mac, but after try to connect the iPhone direct to power supply it's OK & charging. I don't think so it's because of cable connection. Somebody know who to soft this problem? Help!!!

You mean that using the same cable (USB <-> Dock connector), when you plug to the wall, it charges, and when you plug to your PC, it does not charge ?
Did you ever use the USB port for anything else ?
Connecting the iPhone to the Mac do not even switch to charging state ?
You may need to return your iPhone for repair.

  • I have iPad2 and original iPad. After upgrade to iOS5 neither will connect to wifi network. Network is working as I have connectivity with iPhone and Mac Airbook. What's the problem?

I have downloaded iOS 5 to both iPad 2 and original iPad. I cannot get wifi to work on either. It's not my wifi as I have connectivity with other devices, just not with the iPad. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem.  The iPad has never roamed particularly well between access points, but under IOS6 it doesn't seem to roam at all, it simply sticks with the access point it first connected with.
I don't have a solution for you, unfortunately.

  • When I wire connect my ipad to mac where the backup goes

When I wire-connect my ipad to my mac, iTunes opens up and it says along with other information that mac will back up my laptop. I wish to know where the Back up goes, I mean where my ipad informations are stored as back-up ?
Further, now I am going to wire-connect my iPhone to mac and I wish to transfer my iPhone photos to mac, since my iphone capacity is less. Please tell me how to transfer photos / albums from iPhone to mac when I am wire-connecting to mac.
    Thanks in advance

On a Mac, from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946, the backup is stored under :
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Though you probably won't be able to make much, if any, sense of the files within that backup unless you restore it onto a device.
In terms photos, you should be able to copy those that you've taken with the phone to your Mac via Image Capture, Aperture and iPhoto.

  • I do not see Nike iPod button in iTunes 11 when I connect my iPhone 4S

I cannot sync my running data from iPhone 4S with Nikeplus.com. I use Nike+iPod application (I think it is part of iOS)
    iPhone is running iOS 6.0.1
When I connect my iPhone to Mac, in iTunes 11 I do not see Nike+iPod tab or button or anything.. While all Help and supports documents tell me I should sse it.
    What did do wrong?
    Cheers,
    Vladimir

If it's a digital copy (as opposed to an iTunes purchase) then I think that you only get one download of it (iTunes film purchases can be re-downloaded in some countries) - in which case, if you've downloaded it to your computer, then if you want a copy of it on the iPad as well, then you will need to sync it to the iPad by connecting it to your computer's iTunes i.e. you can't just download it again. If you just want to play it on the iPad then you can stream it to it via home sharing (so your computer and iPad will need to be connected to the same network), but that won't put a copy of it on the iPad.

    Hi ChristianHelpplz,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes on your Mac, but your iPhone 6 is working normally.
I recommend starting with these steps to troubleshoot your iPod touch and connection with your Mac:
    Check your USB connections
Unplug other USB devices from your Mac and try again.
    Try a different USB port.
    Try a different USB cable.
    Restart your device
Restart your iOS device or reset your iPod.
    Restart your Mac
Turn your Mac off and back on.
    Update your software
Check for software updates on your Mac.
    Check for an iTunes update.
    Check your security software
If you have security software installed, learn how to resolve issues between iTunes and your security software.
    From:

If you've tried these steps and your iPod touch is still not recognized, try placing it into Recovery Mode next:

  • When I connect my Ipod touch to my Mac, it keeps on charging then stopping and it wont sync

It keeps on charging then stopping then starting again. My Mac says that this device cannot connect to Itunes.
    What should I do?

    Have you tried:
    - Resetting yur iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring you iPod via iTunes.  You probably will have to place the iPod in recovery mode or DFU mode in order for it to appear in iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

    Hi Arjun sache,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an issue with iTunes shutting down unexpectedly when your iPhone is connected to the Mac. Take a look at the article below, it provides a lot of great troubleshooting tips that may be able to resolve the issue for you.

  • Internet: PC/Mac to Ipod touch/iPhone sync

New Operating system update request: To be able to connect to the internet through my PC or Mac without buying a wireless modem
My computer is in my basement and, most of my friends' are too, I really like playing my apps online in the comfort of my basement because it's steaming hot upstairs (where I can get internet) and I got want to get a wireless modem at this time. If there's going to be an iOS 4.1.2 i really want a Computer (PC/Mac) to iPod touch/iPhone internet sync.

You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. First you have to connect the iPod to the new Mac and via USB and make the Mac the new syncing computer. See:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
Then you can set up wifi syncing.
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.
