G4 crashing on boot after DST update.

Hello! I have a 733mhz G4 that I'm running 10.4.8 on. Up to know it's been almost errorless, but this morning when I tried to boot, I got a "You must restart your computer" message when it was still at the white screen with the apple on it. After rebooting a couple of times, I booted off of a 10.3.9 system on a second harddrive, which worked fine. After updating a few things on the 10.3 system using Software Update, however, I started getting the same error message when I reboot the computer trying to boot into 10.3. Currently I'm booted in safe mode, which does appear to work fine. So, that gives me two questions:
1. Could the DST update be causing this problem?
2. Is there any way to uninstall an update done with Software Update to test and see if it's the culprit?

Yeah, I realized later that attributing the crashing to something like the DST update didn't make much sense if it was still booting in safe mode. Unfortunately, I'm at school and don't have any install disks with me, so running a hardware test is a little difficult. Is Memtest something that should only be used after I've tested the machine with a normal utility, or can I try that first?

Leopard USB install no longer boots after software update

Hi all,
I have recently installed Leopard onto a USB partition in order to perform maintenance on my main Leopard installation. Installation proceeds without a problem however after downloading software updates the USB partition will not boot successfully, despite there being no problems with the disk / volume structures / apparently anything at all. In desperation I also tried to install Tiger, which worked, however I have the same problem after updating - it will not boot! I don't think my hardware is at fault - Techtool Pro tells me all is in order.
Has anyone had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

I just installed Leopard onto a USB 2.0 external hard drive for a dual-boot. It booted fine at 10.5.1 but is taking ridiculously long to boot after 10.5.2 (I just got it to finally boot after the update while waiting more than 40 minutes!).
It seems that you may want to attempt booting several times - maybe turning off the machine in between or booting to the internal OS first and then to the external. Can't help you much beyond that as this is my introductory experience with this mess.

Mail 2.0.5 CRASHES ON OPEN after Security Update 2005-009(Tiger Client)

I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.
I rebooted into a techtool pro e-drive and repaired permissions (as well as some other repairs to the drive, etc), but it still is crashing.
I created a new user and opened mail just fine there.
So... it is something in my account. Not sure exactly what to do next?

I'm having the same exact problem. (See Mail 2.0.5 crashes when I get new mail). I deleted my preferences & my junk mail settings, to no avail.
A remarkable number of other people are posting with similar problems, just in the past week or so alone, and as far as I can tell, no one has figured it out. There is definitely a bug here. I have a hunch that it may be related to a recent software update. I'm going to post this to the other threads in hopes of garnering some attention from Apple.
For posterity's sake, I am connecting to a Gmail account, a POP account, and a .Mac account.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Mac Mini will not boot after Security Update 2008-007

Hello,
A G4 Mac Mini machine I was asked to take a look at will not boot after the owner (succesfully) installed Security Update 2008-007 from Software Update. Booting always hangs at the blue screen after the Apple logo, and booting in verbose mode reveals that WindowServer is crashing repeatedly. Permissions and filesystems have been repaired, PRAM reset, etc. Safe boot also exhibits the same problem, but it is possible to boot to single user mode. Hardware checks out fine with diagnostic utilities.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? Unfortunately, backups are not available (it's not my machine =).

MacBook Pro will not boot after doing an Apple Software Update (of course they will not help you). MONEY, MONEY, MONEY is the name of the game. They can cause your computer to crash and still charge you!
Does anyone have an answer to why my computer is showing a little gear spinning for hours? I have tried several things with NO luck.

Hi there,
After successfully installing the 10.9.2 update on my MacBook Pro, I was able to boot to the updated system once. Then, suddently my macBook crashed and I was unable to boot again.
I managed to find a way to backup my files using the recovery mode and the Disk utility, however this wasn't straightforward to me since I was using FileVault..
Does anybody else have a similar experience with the 10.9.2 update?

The login screen appears as usual, and I am able to put username/password. Then, it fails to login and it returns the user to the login screen without mouse or keyboard working.
I booted using Command Button + S (single-user mode) and I see the error
"error loading mach kernel 0xe"
At least, I am able to boot in recovery mode to backup my disk :-)

Dell Latitude E6520 fails to boot after Windows Updates

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude E6520 that is not starting up after Windows updates. It installs updates and requests a reboot, after which it blue screens at the splash logo and reboots again. This goes on indefinitely. The only way to repair it is to boot from
a recovery disk and run:
dism /image:D:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
This is after running dism /image:D:\ /get-packages and noticing that several updates are still in an "Install_Pending" state. These are the kb's that are pending:

HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot after windows update (windows 8.1)

After a series of windows update (windows 8.1) my HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot up, no fan noises, no lights no nothing.
I have tried a "hard reset" a number of times with no success.
When the battery is present the white LED flashes 3 times when the power button is pressed.

I understand you notebook will not boot after a series of Windows updates.
Can you tell me if you are able to access the HP Recovery Manager by repeatedly tapping the F11 key while the notebook turns on? If you can access this, try doing a system restore to before you installed the updates. If not I would suggest you go through this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
If it's the Caps Lock light that is blinking this document will tell you exactly what the error is (spoiler: 3 beeps is a memory failure). This could also explain the failed updates. The updates are stored in the RAM before being applied to the operating system.
You can try reseating the RAM, or using only 1 of the RAM cards, as you have 2x4GB cards. If it still doesn't work with 1 card, try the other card to confirm it has failed.

MacBook Pro 2010 crashing / kernal panic after Mavericks update

After we updated our MacBook Pro (late 2010) to mavericks, it has a kernal panic crash not just on wake/sleep, but also when a program is opened (usually 2 or 3rd program).
it happens when plugged in and when unplugged. I have tried a few of the "fixes" but nothing has helped. Doesn't seem to be the power issues some have sugested. Also, doesn't appear to be a HP issues others have also had.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Problem in booting after bios update

Originally, it was windows home basic was installed in my laptop. But recently I had installed Windows professional. After installation I have downloaded all drivers which are compatible for my laptop model. After BIOS update installation my pc is not booting up at all. Only power button, WiFi and capslock is lighting. Capslock is continuosly blicking. Even FAN speed gets lowered. I have tried hard reset as well as windows+B comand during startup still condition is same. Please reply me....

ITunes crashes on iPhone after installing update 3.01

After installing update 3.01, iTunes won't work properly. iTunes starts up, plays a number but crashes after a while. My guess is, that this happens while the iPhone performs other tasks simultaneously (like retrieving e-mail and such). Are there other people with the same experience?

Update: looks to be a memory-problem (?). When I start iTunes and choose to play the firts album/number directly (without using coverflow), it works fine. For a while at least, until my mail is checked again: iTunes crashes again.

T540p wont boot after bios update

I updated my T540p a few days ago using Lenovo Solution centre, hiwever, it cant boot after update. The power button is on and fan spins, but the screen is black. I tried: remove battery and all external device and press power button for 30 seconds, out back the battery, still screen wont show anything; tried usb recovery stick, didn't work; tried Recovery discs from Lenovo, still failed.
