G4 Display Update - Worth the investment?
Hi guys,
Running a PCI 350MHZ G4 with 1GB of RAM. Currently its running with the internal display chip and the machine is unable to play video at all (cant even stream from youtube)
Now id like to invest a mac pci graphics card, retailing for £30+
would the inclusion of a 64MB card enable to me to view video at all>?
one other thing...how can i make the god awful fan quieter?

Hello! You'll be disappointed. Your machine has seen its best days. To have any real ability to watch modern video stuff you're gonna need a new processor in the 1-2 ghz range along with at least 1 gig of ram. Your pci machine is not worth sinking another chunk of cash into. Tom

Is the new OS update worth the effort ? ...
Having a hard time updating my iPad to the OS 4. whatever version. What exactly are the benefits of the new version over the installed version that's already on the iPad? I like it and can use it for everything the way it is, but lots of people seem to be having issues downloading and after installing the update. Is it really worth it if everything works now ???

DaveIf everything is working, and you don't want/need any of the new features (multi-tasking, folders, Airprint/Airplay) then you don't have to upgrade. But you may find that over the coming weeks/months any apps that you have may get updates that require the new iOS - in which case if you stick with the version that you've got you won't be able to update them.
There are a number of people who have had, or are still having, problems with 4.2 - I havn't had a single problem, but there is no guarantee that you won't be one of the (probably) fairly small minority who have had. And most people who post on forums like these are those with problems; those who are ok tend not to sign up and post.
If you having problems downloading the update, then a number of people have had success after temporarily turning off their firewall and anti-virus. -
Moving to iLife 08 from iLife 06 - is it worth the investment
I'm a long time imovie/idvd user. Have used imovie 2 - 6. Also have been working with iweb for about the past year. Are the additional features in iweb08 worth it? This is the first time I've seen an apple software product get released with so many less than favorable reviews.
As far as iWeb is concerned, I'm particularly interested in making my website with social networking capabilities so users can log on, interact with each other, post forums etc. Does the new iWeb 08 allow you to do that? thanks for your feedback in advance. my website btw is www.southbaycruisers.comI have not posted to youtube, but others in this forum have. What I do is post my podcast (usually made by keynote for my students) directly on my blog page and it is very easy to do. I just put one on tonight without any difficulties. I think the new quicktime upgrade may also improve some of that performance.

Is 2.0 Update Worth the Hassle????
I have one of the original iPhones and have been reading the forums quite often since Friday and so far obviously I see a lot of people saying they are bricked. But is this happening because people were impatient and unplugged their phones before firmware update was complete due to the bogged down servers? This seems like a very possible scenario. Its either that or there really is something wrong with the update???
Also if people cram their phones completely full its not going to function properly just a computer wouldnt if you filled its hard drive all the way full.It truly depends on your needs.

the issue with upgrade was that on Friday the servers were overwhelmed. When you upgrade the phone is backed up, deauthorized from ATT, its memory is whiped, 2.0 is installed, your files are placed bak and the phone is re-authorized with ATT. when the servers were swamped people could not re-authorize and hence ended up with a paperweight
The draw bcak from 2.0 is that the phone seems to run slower. Not much but noticebly so. -
Is the '11 update worth the hassle that I am reading?
I am a longtime iMovie user and am very hesitant to get the '11 upgrade after reading all of the reviews. I need factual opinions from fellow iMovie veterans. Thanks.

using iM since vers2 ... hope this is veteran enough ...
iM11 is actual the best version of iMovie-b (=iM-a is vers.≤6).
it handles my Cam's AVCHD video perfectly, offers all the 'effects' I need for my home-videos (mainly soccer game documentation), and is fully integrated into iLife suite of apps.
what it lacks: no option for plug-ins (as for more transitions), no option for add-ons (more Themes&Trailers as 'Jam Packs'), no integrated pointers (I'm using the well-known .png trick), the delivered, pre-defined Soccer-theme doesn't hit the needs of this sports (hey, the 'weight' of a player is nonsense, but what about goals, points, places?) ...
technically I don't notice any 'hassle'. -
I am going to buy myself a MacBook Pro in the near future and was wondering if the new Retina Display model would be worth the extra cash. I will mostly be doing photo/video/music editing.
if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.

What version are you on now ? If you are on 5.1.0 then the update to 5.1.1 is very small - from here :

Error in Adobe Illustrator update to the new version 16.0.3 (compatible with retina display)
Hellow, so i have Adobe Illsutrator cs6 version 16.0.0. I was so excited to update this version to a retina display compatible one (16.0.3).
I downloaded he extension 24.2 Mb from the official adobe website, and when i tried to install the update, by the adobepatchinstaller file, the adobe application manager poped up and gave me this message....
i read several posts from people facing the same problem, so please if anyone knows how to fix this just tell us...we are so eager and excited to update to the retina adobefwiw I just did a fresh install of my OS (Windows 7 x64) and Apps including the CS6 Master Suite and have exactly the same issue and U44M1P7 error message . This is with the Illustrator16.0.3_x64 update which is the most recent for the PC version.
I downloaded the manual installer and it did not help. Illustrator reports that it is running v16.0.3 while the Application Manager still claims it still needs the update.
The Application Manager shortcut links to the app manager app which is PDapp.exe and checking its details shows that it's v7.7.7.233.
My next step will be to uninstall and then reinstall the Illustrator CS6 component of the CS6 Master Suite and reinstall.

I bought a Mac Book Pro retina display, Serial Number C02J*****2, on 8/11/2012. Unfortunately, I am unable to download updates from the App store.Whenever I tried to download updates, it shows me an error message, "we could not complete your request. there is an error in the App Store. Try again later (100). Your Apple ID has been disabled, contact iTune support". However,the problem still persists even after my password has been successfully reset. What is is the error in the app store? I really need help to resolve this issue.
Moreover,I also need help how to update to the mountain lion free of charge as my Mac pro is four(4) days old.

I updated to the latest iOS and now YouTube and the Ap store are no longer on my phone. Also, not all my music will play and if I play a song it will actually play a different song while displaying the one I chose. Any ideas how to fix this?
You have to download the individual youtube app now. It is no longer a nataive ios app from apple in ios6

Is a MacBook Pro w/ Retina display worth the price?

Looking at purchasing portability for school- going to work on an MFA in graphics/web/new media, and need some assistance. I've an iMac from 2007, seems to run flawlessly, but looking at options for taking school with me while at work- I'm currently travelling five different states in my current position. The new MacBook Pro with Retina display looks stunning, albeit expensive, but has many features that worry me.
For instance, everything is completely bolted/soldered/non-upgradeable, so any desire of modification needs to be purchased pre-production, right? Also, the big issue with their PCIe "Flash based" storage... exactly what is this, and why is it so freaking expensive? I've read different reports on Apple using various manufacturers, so not every MacBook as the same storage model, no third party attempts at upgrades, etc.. If I'd like to install numerous, monstrous programs, such as the entire Adobe Creative Suites, 3D Max, Maya, Final Cut, and so forth, I'll need a high capacity memory drive, as I assume most, if not all of these, need a root drive to install, and not simply an external hard drive. I still make CDs/DVDs, so a SuperDrive is another $80.
Chatting with an Apple representative, she stated that there is "only one model that will run my software at peak performance," which was the 15-inch model, starting at $2k; also, my software needed a "dedicated graphics card," I'm not too certain that it needs all that, and a high-end PC laptop could certainly run all of my demands- but let's face it, this is an Apple discussions community, and I'm plain simply accustomed to working on an Apple computer. Plus, I don't really care for Windows 8.
Should I possibly aim to purchase an older model used, something without Retina, but with more storage? Is Retina that big of a deal for a laptop? I also considered the possibility of just toting a Mac Mini with a 13-inch Cintiq tablet; though it does need a constant power supply, it's still quite portable.
Thoughts? Am I just overthinking this? I've been expecting a MacBook to be expensive, but this could be pushing it a bit.

whether it’s worth the price or not is an entirely subjective opinion. My own choice was to buy a used non-Retina 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and replace its hard drive with a SSD; but since I don’t use graphic-intensive apps such as the Adobe Creative Suite, my own choice would most likely not be best for you. Given your graphic design background, if you find the non-Retina displays sufficient for your needs, I’d recommend that you consider a used 15-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. That model has memory sockets, so you can replace/upgrade the RAM if needed; its internal disk can be replaced by/upgraded with any 2.5-inch 9.5-mm-high SATA hard disk or SSD; and it has a built-in SuperDrive. -
I have reset both my torch and playbook back to original only thing that I kept was my contact. And still problems I am a few min away from leave my loved blackberry and going android !! Or heaven help us Phone
Issues 1) playbook wont connect to desktop manager anymore
2) Play book has 2 calendar icons with two different settings on them ??? I have one that is currently working with my yahoo email and calendar account.
3) my Phone when connected to desk top software shows the calendar as read only
4) Unable to update my phone says During an update of the applications on the BlackBerry® smartphone an error message may be displayed "BlackBerry Desktop Software failed to validate your BlackBerry device update - Aborting install due to validation failure. Some packages contained unsatisfactory dependencies."
I just want my email and Calendars to work I am tried of spending nights trying to get these deices working !!!

Is it possible for the next IOS 6 update for the music album art to display on the homescreen as a backround image when music is playing?
It does, under certain circumstances. If you are playing music and lock the phone or it locks on its own, when you wake it up, the album art will show. It also shows as the background if you are in the music app. If this is not exactly what you are looking for, you can submit feedback to Apple about this feature at www.apple.com/feedback.
