G4 Dual 450 Shuts Itself Off in Sleep Mode

It's been a long time since I've posted here. Got interested in digital photography and haven't had the time to check these boards like I used to.
Anyway, the title says it all. After my G4 Dual 450 has been in sleep mode a while, it shuts itself off. On startup, occasionally the power button doesn't seem to engage-- you press it and nothing happens. Other times the power button functions normally. Could a dying power switch cause the computer to shut down in sleep mode? This is a third computer in the house and is only used by my wife to play some simple games, including some old OS9 ones, so it'd definitely not want to put much money into repairing it.
One of my wife's favorite games is called Mombasa. It's a tile match shareware game in OS9 with an African theme. Does anyone know if it ever got ported to OSX. I tried a Google search but kept coming up with Mobasa Africa.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Doesn't really sound like a virus.

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Hp laserjet p1102w networked printer shuts itself off

Hi, I have a networked (not wireless network) printer, which is plugged into a computer that is always on. However, it shuts itself off randomly, even though I have set it to never do so. This means that users must walk over, turn the printer on, and occasionally restart their computers before they are able to print, which sometimes causes them to lose work. Occasionally the users will also receive a message like:
The printer spooler on the server was not responding
Which means someone must reset the server spooler before it will print.
I have also set it to go into power-save mode at the longest interval, one hour, but it frequently goes to sleep within minutes of a print-job, often sparking the above issues.
If there is anything that I can do further to keep from forcing the users to constantly turn it on, or to keep from having to restart the spooler every day, that would be great.
I am working with machines using Windows 7 and 8, and with a Windows Server 2012.

I got to this screen by going to the web interface by typing the printer's IP address into a web-browser's address bar.
Sorry for the delayed response. I will do my best to assist you when I get home.

Today I was shopping and I went to check the time on my Iphone but it had shut itself off for no reason and now it won't turn back on. What should I do?

It could have powered off. Try holding the sleep button down for a few seconds until the apple logo appears to restart it

  • Why does my nano iPod 7gen shut itself off during a pause when running

I am using the nano ipod 7th generation and nike plus. It  shuts itself off if I have hit pause during a run while taking a break. This is very frustrating because I have to start my run over, it also shows up as two runs in one day. How can I fix this?

I usually hit the pause. I have tried putting it to sleep as not to bump the resume workout on the face. This doesnt help either. After a few minutes when waking up the ipod it shows the nike screen and I have to start a new workout.

  • My ipad shuts itself off frequently - why

I will be emailing, or web surfing, and my ipad shuts itself off.  I have tried reloading everything, I have taken it out of its case, I would like any tips on how to fix this.
    thanks

    Try this:
    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • TiBook shuts itself off

This is going to sound weird, but I can only put my TiBook to sleep once. I close the lid and it sleeps just fine. I open the lid and it wakes up, but if I close the lid again it shuts off. This has happened repeatedly, though not consistently.
I have a BookEndz docking station at my office. I will typically close the lid and remove it from the dock to go to a meeting. I will wake it up at the meeting (I have "require password to wake" on) and it will work just fine. Then, I close the lid after the meeting and about 1/2 the time the computer will simply shut itself off, whether or not I have returned it to the docking station in my office.

I'm going to suggest resetting the Power Management Unit. Read this document carefully (different procedures depending on what Ti you have).regards

  • Fivespot wireless shuts itself off too quickly -- how can I change this?

OK, so the fivespot is very nice. But when I use it as a WIFI device, if it is inactive, it shuts itself off pretty quickly (within an hour, though I haven't timed it exactly). When I try to connect to the internet, my wifi connection has disappeared and I have to go and restart the fivespot, wait 45 seconds until it appears, then reconnect my pc, etc. WHAT A PAIN!!! Is there some way I can adjust the time it waits until it goes to sleep? This is very irritating.

Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.
You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • MBP Randomly Shutting Itself Off

Hey guys, I wanted to see if the community may be able to help me fix a problem my computer developed last week. At some point last week, I was lying in bed using my MBP when I accidentally knocked the backside against my knee. The computer then immediately went back, and wouldn't turn back on for a while. When it did turn back on, the fans were running in overdrive, but nothing happened on the screen. Realizing what had happened, I reset the SMC, and the computer turned back on and seemed to be working fine. Since then however, my computer has randomly shut itself off a number of times, seemingly for no reason. In addition, it will sometimes not recognize that the charger is plugged in at all. And after it does shut off randomly, booting up takes a very long time. Additionally, sometimes when closed and gone to sleep, waking it from sleep seems to initiate a system restore from last state, but then freezes halfway through the restore, and I'm forced to force shutdown, and restart. Is my laptop on its last legs? Or is my battery about to go, or what's the deal?
    I own a 15" Mid 2010 MBP, 2.53 GHz Intel i5, 4GB memory, running Lion 10.7.5
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My new MacBook Pro is doing the same thing and I just bought it 11-22-11.  I am new to mac, after years on a PC, and I have had mixed messages about whether to use the Mac plugged in once it is fully charged, or use it for hours on the batter and wait for it to run all the way down before charging.  When I am fully charged and I am going to be at if for a long time, I find that the screen will go black like it has shut off, keyboard goes black to.  Like the person before me asked, if I unplug the power cord from the Mac, the screen comes back.  Hmmmm.  Do I have a problem with the charger on my Mac?  Thanks for helping this Newbee too!

  • I went to use my iPhone 5 (I had used it just minutes before) and it wouldn't work. It was about half charged and seems to have shut itself off. I tried charging it and turning it on but the screen remains completely black. What happened?

Try resetting.  Hold the sleep wake button (on the top edge), and the home button (round button on the front with the white square) at the same time for 10-15 seconds.  If you see the apple logo, let go.  Your phone should restart.  If not?

  • MBP shuts itself down during sleep

My MBP shuts itself down durning sleep... or, stays black when I open the lid after sleep.  The hard drive is on,  but no key pressing will get it running.  I have to hold down the power button, til it clicks off; then press it again to boot up from scratch.
Today, I booted up Console and under messages  found this:
7/28/12 4:56:21.519 PM Firewall: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.254.1:64508 from 192.168.254.254:53

    7/28/12 4:57:07.000 PM kernel: macx_swapon SUCCESS
is this the signature of Trojan?
    How do I correct this?

I'm having almost the same problem and I can't figure it out either. I put my computer to sleep and when I wake it up, the screen comes on with my full desktop, but everything is frozen. I can't open anything. I can't even force quit. I get no response from my mouse (other than being able to move it around- sometimes) and everything on the dock is unresponsive. I did disc repair– no problems reported. I repaired disc permissions– a few glitches, but all taken care of and okay. I restarted the computer, put it to sleep and same thing all over. Should I worry?

  • Imac shuts itself off

I have a 6 year old imacDV w/OS10.2 on it. Lately it has started shutting itself off while using it. When I turn it back on, the clock is always reset to December, 1969, at 6:02. Any ideas???
I usually leave the computer on 24/7 and it has worked flawlessly since I bought it.
    Thanks!

    Hi,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The clock is resetting due to a defective internal battery (The battery powers the date/time info when you disconnect the iMac from the mains electricity supply). After 6 years you could expect this battery to be dead.
First reset the power management unit - follow the instructions in this document (Trouble Shooting Page 9). To replace the battery (Trouble Shooting Page 13) you'll need to crack the case on the iMac instructions are further down in that PDF.
I'm not clear why it's shutting itself down unless it's set to do that. Check the settings on Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Hardware > Energy Saver > Sleep tab > 'Schedule' .

  • Satellite U400-14B shuts itself off and now it wont start up

    Hi
just got a new Satellite U400 this week.
Was working perfectly the first few days, then last night, it just shuts itself off and now it wont start up.
I press the on button and the row of lights next to it light up, but nothing happens I dont even get as far as the Toshiba screen.
I have tried many things. I left it plugged in overnight, tried taking the battery out and no result as of now.
The little led lights on the bottom indicate that there its plugged in, the battery is white not orange, when pressed they all light up again only for a split second.
The only thing I can liken this too is when a car wont start and you keep turning and turning the key, well in this case pushing a button, and nothing happens, the fans dont whir or anything...
    help please...

  • IPhone constantly shuts itself off randomly after 3.1.2 upgrade

So I decided to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the newest software when it was first available and now, inconsistently, it has been shutting itself off.
All I would do is lock the phone, such as after sending a message, and place it in my pocket. When I check it again, I realize it will not turn on, and have to fully power on the thing.
Is this a normal problem? What can I do? Should I downgrade? Is that even possible?
I would just like my iPhone to work like it should, all help is appreciated greatly.

How can I set it as a new iPhone? The last time I reset all the settings and plugged in my phone, all of the information synced itself very quickly, I didnt have an option to restore as a backup or set up a new phone.
You seem to be confusing reseting the settings and restoring the phone. See this Apple support article - Restoring your iPhone... section. (This is also clearly described in the User Guide - bookmarked in iPhone Safari):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
I aslo recommend disabling automatic syncing when connecting your phone. This can be selected on your device summary page or set globally for all devices.
Preferences > Devices > Prevent iPhones and iPods from syncing automatically
