G4 DUAL start-up stuck

okay this is what happened..
yesterday I connected my iPod Nano (4GB) to my G4 Dual and the system said there was an update for my iPod...
so I did so...
but then later on when I was listening to a track my iPod just simply froze and is stuck with a screen saying "Now Playing". (I have posted over at the iPod discussions)
so then I connected the iPod to my computer again but it did not show up at all. and I thought I had to upgrade my iTunes to 7.2.
I choose the systems software update and it found the iTunes update + the 10.4.10 comboupdate too. and I forgot to unmark the 10.4.10 (I wanted to keep my 10.4.7 because it was working fine) so it started to install but after it had installed iTunes it aborted the 10.4.10 for some reason and the .pkg ended up in my Trash. however I could not empty trash so I restarted my Mac... but it gets stuck with the blue screen and silvergrey box saying Mac OS X.
I have run DiskWarrior 3.0.3 and TechToolPro 4
and also tried:
SHIFT + CTRL + OPTION and pressing Power
COMMAND + OPTION + O + F
reset-nvram (return)
set-defaults (return)
reset-all (return)
but I am still stuck.
what can I do now?
should I delete iTunes?
I have two HD's on this G4 so I am writing this on my other HD running OSX Jaguar. So I can see the files on the other HD with Mac OSX Tiger

I also have a Powerbook G4 with Tiger.
can I update from this with a firewireconnection and COMMAND + T ?
if so... how am I supposed to do it right?!?!
(1) connect with firewire
(2) start my G4 Dual
(3) start my Powerbook with COMMAND + T
or
(1) connect with firewire
(2) start my Powerbook
(3) start my G4 Dual with COMMAND + T
.

  • @ Start-up: Stuck after chime! No Apple Logo, No Spininng Wheel! But...

OK I tried to enable front row on my old powermac. Long story short it didn't work and made my clock and search icons disappear from my menu bar. I found some info about how to restore both by by downloading an reinstalling the latest combo os update, for me was 10.4.11. Did that.
    Now...
After reinstalling and restarting, I get the chime, then it goes directly to a gray screen with the NO SMOKING sign but without the cigarette.
I tried starting in safe mode, tried command V, tried resting the pram. The pram reset was the only command that was actually recognized but I'm not sure it made a difference. I tried putting the osx install disc in and holding down command C it my comp didn't even recognize the disc.
I am stuck. Can anybody please give some sort of advise or some direction on how to fix this. Fortunately I've backed up most of my projects so if worse comes to worse I can just reinstall the OS but I'd have to get my mac to even rcognize a disc first.

  • Leopard in Dual G5 Scolling Stuck

This beyond weird. I installed Leopard a few weeks ago on my Dual 2Ghz G5. It has been working flawlessly. Tonight I came home and my screen saver wasn't on. No big deal. But then I opened a finder window. It immediately scrolled through the files to the top.
So I thought, my Mighty Mouse is dirty. But then I unplugged it. And used the keyboard to open a window. It still scrolled immediately to the top. I thought maybe the up arrow on my keyboard was stuck.
So then I plugged the mouse back in and opened a finder window it started to scroll. I immediately unplugged the keyboard. It continued to scroll.
I restarted and it would not accept my password. I noticed that the cursor in the password box didn't move to the right with each letter, but stayed to the left. I finally typed my password in backwards. Yes, backwards. So if my password was "hello" I typed in "olleh". It worked. But the scroll thing continued.
So, I managed to get into System Preferences and booted up from an external Firewire Drive with OS 10.4.10 on it. The mouse works perfectly. The keyboard too.
I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions. No dice.
Not sure what I should do. This is obviously something with Leopard. Anybody else experience this? Have a solution?
    -Kirk

I have tried about ten times to get the PRAM zapped. I hit restart and have held down the Command-Option-P-R key combination. Before the "bong" after the "bong", but no matter what I do, I cannot get the second "bong" that tells me the PRAM is zapped.
I also removed my User Preferences and restarted. No dice.
    Any other thoughts?

  • G4 Won't start. Stuck at Grey Screen with Spinning wheel

It won't make it past this screen.
    I have a Dual G4 867Mhz with 2GB ram. (3) harddrives.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
The last thing that happened was last night I left my computer on downloading some stuff. When I woke up my dad had unplugged the ethernet cable and It had locked up some programs with the spinning beachball. I proceeded by trying to shut the program with apple+q. It shut down the Finder window. I then was forced to just shut down the computer by holding down the power button. I didn't try starting up again at that time, but now about 3 hours later I tried to start up again, and it's stuck at this screen.

Install OS X on one of your disk drives. Or get a FW case and drive, then update to 10.3.9.
Buy a copy of Disk Warrior 4.
    Ask Dad.

  • Help, Mac Pro wouldn't start now stuck on grey screen

    Hi,
My Mac Pro computer wouldn't start up properly. Sometimes I would press the button 30 times and still it wouldn't start.
I have taken it to a Authorised Apple shop and first of all had a new graphics board replaced.
A week later the same problem, it wouldn't start up, some times switch itself off so I took it back to the Apple shop where it turned on perfectly and the tests showed nothing wrong.
Week and a half later it happened again so I took it back and they gave me a new hard drive and memory cage.
Three weeks later, same problem took it back to the store and they found nothing wrong with it so I had to bring it back home.
Worked again for another week and then it wouldn't start a few times so I left it on and it turned itself off.
Today it is starts but gets stuck on the grey screen with spinning wheel and then turns itself off.
Please, please can anybody help. The Authorised Apple shop doesn't know what the problem is so has given up..
    Best Regards..

If you unplug it from all power & peripherals like taking it in would do, wait a few hours & plug it back in does it work?
Is there an Uninterruptible Power Supply involved?

  • Can't start up; stuck at gray screen- started w/ Skype

hi all.  my mom's Macbook Pro can't start up.  it gets stuck at the grey screen w/ the Apple logo and spinning pinwheel every time.  nothing else is plugged into the laptop aside from the power cord.
here's what i tried already, but to no avail:
      - Reset SMC
      - Reset PRAM
      - Hold shift while starting up... nothing happens.  So can't start in safe mode
      - Used install disk to run Disk Utility diagnostic: Ran into a bunch of Disk Permission errors and fixed those.  Nothing wrong on the Disk itself.
      - Held Command-S while starting up and typed "fsck -fy".  Got "File system was modified" at first.  Ran it again and got clean bill of health there
      - Held "d" while booting, ran the hardware test and it checked out fine.
after all of the above, tried waiting for it to restart for 15 minutes and still same spinning wheel.
this all started when a Skype update couldn't install, so i got rid of the current Skype.  then tried downloading the new Skype. after it supposedly downloaded fully and it was automatically processing in the download pop up window (e.g. something about "writing", "image", etc.), it got stuck and froze the computer for at least 5 minutes.  at that point, i help the power button until it turned out.  then this started...
    please help!  thanks!
PS: not sure if this has anything to do w/ the problem, but after this happened, i tried to use Disk Utilities to make an image onto an external hard drive and it gave me an "operation timed out" error.

  • Macbook Pro Does Not Start Up - Stuck at "No Entry" Sign

    Hello,
I've been dealing with this hours, so at last I decided to get help from the community.
Let me explain the issue first.
I have checked Software Update, and there was two updates. First one was Java and the other one was EFI Update 2.7. I don't remember the Java update version. After I applied the update, the MBP rebooted itself as it should do; bu the problem occured at that reboot. OSX tried to start up three times, like as it was failing to install the updates after reboot. And at the fourth time, after a few minutes the Apple logo turned into a "No Entry Sign". And it stuck like that. Now, the MBP cannot boot normally, I can only run it on safe mode.
    I have reset PRAM.
As far as I read about the issue over the boards, the problem occurs to be an HDD problem. Yet I can run the OSX in safe mode, which bugs me. So I downloaded SMART Utility to check the HDD. It says there is 1 Pending Bad Sector, and 1 Removed Bad Sector.
What do I do now, any solutions you can offer?

As I'm sure you are already aware, that HDD has failed to the point it cannot find a bootable volume.
If you have a backup, no worries.
If you do not have a backup, you could try to reinstall the operating system and get the disk to a state in which it will at least mount. Then, copy whatever information remains intact to another disk. I would be inclined to replace the drive now, install the failed one in an external enclosure, and attempt to extract whatever information you need from it.

  • Mac mini 2010 start up stuck at greay screen

Just purchased a brand new Mac mini this past weekend. 2.4 GHz, 320 hard drive. Updated to 10.6.6, migrated files from an eMac. Everything was working fantastic. Then played a Star Trek game (Elite Force II) and the disc froze. Had to shut down. Couldn't get the disc out at first, then restarted and held the eject and disc was out but would not start up past the grey screen with Apple. Ran disk utility from install disc, said drive was fine. Ran permissions repair, repaired whatever needed, re-ran disk utility again, no problems found. Ran Apple Hardware test, no problems found. Thought of re-installing OS X 10.6.3, won't allow me to (I assume I have to erase the disk then install). Stuck in grey, can anyone please help. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    migrated files from an eMac
That's the problem. You can't use the Migration Assistant reliably from PowerPC to Intel. See this tip on how to do it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=10
I would boot using the startup manager the 10.6.3 disc and erase and install, and try again using the instructions above.

  • HP Pavilion all in one starts but stuck on sign on page

    Hi,
I bought this at Best Buy and it didn't come with a recovery disk or manual.  I am having a problem with it staying stuck on the Sign On Page.  I put in my password and it will stay on "think" mode and not let me into the system.  What do you suggest? I know there isn't anything wrong with the password as I can get into other computers in the home with it.  I have tried shutting it down and re-starting it as well and get the same problem.

  • Macbook white wont start up. stucks in a gray spinning apple logo.

Iv updated a security update few days 3/4 days ago. and after this problem happened. my macbook white 13" stucks in start up with a gray apple spinning logo.

Put your 10.6 install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it.
Click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive

  • How can I re-start when stuck on apple logo/spinning gear page for HOURS???

I uploaded 12 updates at once and when I went to restart, it became stuck on the page with the apple logo and spinning gear. Left it for hours and hours but no change. I have removed the battery and re-powered. I've also tried to use the install Disc 1... Urgh! Any solutions?
    Thanks, Dot

If you are uploading anything it should not affect your machine unless your computer coincidentally failed while doing so. I am going to assume you mean you downloaded 12 updates.
I also assume you mean that when trying to start it after having removed and the replaced all sources of power it still will only get as far as the apple logo with spinning gear.
Are you holding the C key while starting it with the install DVD inserted? That should cause it to boot from the DVD after which you can use Disk Utility to repair the disk or to re-install the OS if needed.

Already uninstalled and reinstalled.  Doesn't work.
    Lost productivity this morning.
    What is the problem?

  • Windows 8.1 Update 1 start button stucks after a time

    Hi!
So, I installed windows 8 a long time ago, and recently (about 5 months) I installed 8.1.1.
Well, I loved it, but sometimes start button stops working. Just stuck. Nothing happens when I click.
The only way to make it work again is restarting explorer process in task manager, but I hate have to make it.
    Win+X works.
    What I do?

    Hi,
If you have any 3 rd party programs (related with\simulate start button solution), please uninstall it as a test.
Do a virus scan to ensure the safety of your system.
And you mentioned that a restarted explorer solves this issue, seem some 3 rd party plug-ins cause this issue, so I suggest you use
Shellviewer to find these imcompatible shell extensions.
