G4 Keeps Resetting Help (new to Mac)

I am new to Mac but finally trashed my PC and got a used G4 off Ebay. Anyway, my settings, for no reason I can find, keeps resetting. Like Mail, will have to be set up all over again. The pictures under iPhoto are now gone, and the folders I made. The Dashboard time to --- ---- ----
Any help?

Need a little help new to mac

Need a little help I'm new to Mac.. i have had my ibook for over a year now and i like it a lot, but some times my usb post dies on my for a couple days maybe weeks. Ill have my ipod connected and when i go to plug in a flash drive. It doesn't detect my ipod anymore and my usb port don't work. it says that they were "removed improperly" and now they are not working again..i have tried to reinstall the whole os again and that doesn't work i don't have the hardware test disk so i don't know what could be the problem i know its not the logic board is there any test i can do to it to find out the problem its an ibook late 2001... there is no reset button on it. i tried to hold in the space bar and now when i boot up i get prompt to this screen that shows the world and then a folder with a ? mark but then after a few sec it boots right up im a mess need some help

You have to go to the iPod's icon on your computer (or the flash drive's icon), select it and eject it there before removing it. Otherwise, data can be corrupted and/or lost. Repeatedly removing it without ejecting it from the desktop can cause it not to be recognized any longer.
If your iBook is a "late 2001" model. It should have a reset button. Check out the chart here to make sure which model iBook you have:

It's trying to find a network volume from which to boot.
Once it's booted up, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select your Mac OS X startup volume. Then close System Preferences. The next time you start up, it should start up without looking for a network volume.

Slideshow Presentation Help (new to Mac)

I need to put together a slide presentation and have not done this before. Also, I am new to Mac.
Can anyone help with details regarding a workflow and other items?
1. For instance, can I gather up all my images in Aperture, move these in some manner that retains the resolution and put them in Keynote?
2. Is there a minimum resolution for images looking good for projection on a screen?
3. Is there a way to see this in some manner as an "actual size" or otherwise check this globally?
4. Is there a way to manually do a slideshow in Aperture instead of Keynote? Is one more preferable than the other?
Any other technical help would be greatly appreciated.
I will be working on my MacPro where my Aperture Library resides but I will be presenting on the MacBookPro laptop.

I know, right?
But I can't seem to discover why some of the groups I've created are purple? and then the people in those groups are purple? And the rest not.
Or if I can create a sub group under a smart group. ANd why if I put a descriptor like 'Film - contact' it won't pull all the 'Film - contacts' over into the new smart group...
And can I enter all birthdays under on family contact and have them sync to my calendar?
That's why I was looking for a complete tutorial... so I could find the answers to these types questions.

WRT54G Keeps Resetting - Help!

Just bought router a couple of weeks ago, and it keeps resetting. First I lose internet connectivity, and when I bring up the Linksys Advisor, it goes into the initial setup like I've never done it. It worked fine up until a few days ago. Any idea what is going on?

don't really rely on the easy link advisor sometimes it's not accurate. do you frequently have power outtage in the area?sometimes it affects the settings of the router.also try to configure the router properly if not familiar on how to do that try to get in touch with the phone support

I recently purchased a power mac g5
Specs;
G5 power mac dual core (2.0)
Power pc 970 mp
Late 2005
I don't have an apple mouse/keyboard
I just use $40 wireless mouse keyboard.
Upon purchase everything seemed to work as it should....booted up, open and closing apps without freezing.
However I never had it connected to the Internet when I navigated through system.
I got it home and installed a 1 tb harddrive (WD mainstream desktop) from future shop. When I installed it in tower I had to buy a sata 2.0 cable as there was not one available for use. Booted up fine and installation went as my research said it should. Turned it on next day....
Tried to update iTunes and this is where it started actin up. First just froze had to turn off, second time wouldn't even boot up plus fans went into overdrive. Third forth fifth sixth boots fans sometimes kick in, now whenever I try to do any kind of action it freezes. (Only when I click something)
I read about possible power suppy issue, so I plugged tower and monitor into seperAte plugs,
They may however be in same circuit because they at in the same wall...would a power conditioner fix this?
Anyway still froze on any action tried...just opened disk drive...opened then frooze...?
Anybody have any ideas??

I ended up taking it in to geeksquad at best buy, they had it for 3 days and also told me after the fact that neither of the techs working on it knew much about macs :-( needless to say I requested my
Money back due to the fact that the service I paid for could not be completed and literally couldn't tell me anything more than what's below.
They told me that they could not dock it with thier diagnostic machine, kept restarting on them and the one fella said it was overheating but had no idea why. When I brought it home again I tried it once more computer boots up to desktop as usual, this time had a asterisk window saying " the computer was restarted after mac OSX quit unexpectedly" however my cursor was again locked in the top left of the screen. Would not move, so I could not view the report, shortly after fans kicked into overdrive. I'm losing hope for this machine rapidly. I'm all ears when it comes to anything I may be able to do.
Should I try an actual apple keyboard/mouse just to eliminate that possible?
If you have ideas AWSOME, If not, no worries, ill take it into the mac store and see what they say
P.s the machine is clean inside little to no dust and the tech said he was going to clean it out, hard to tell if he did because it was clean clean before I brought it to him.

Help - new to Mac and struggling to download drivers for my printer. It keeps refusing, saying that an't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer - Help :(

I'm trying to download and install the printer dirvers for my Kodak esp 3.2s, but my iMac keeps refusing, stating that : AiOInstaller can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me...
I have just got one of the 24" iMacs at work and I have never worked on Mac before. I am having problems with documents/files.
I have made new folders in my "documents" folder but I cannot move/drag files into the folders. I also cant delete files from the documents folder.
I have spent the last 4 hours reading tutorials etc and still can't figure this out. I am guessing it's probably simple... but I just can't seem to find the answer.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

There are two documents folders. One shared among all user and a personal documents folder.
To get to the system folder you double click on the machintosh hd. You will see the system documents folder here. If you are not logged on with system administrator privileges, the files will be read only. To tell if you have administrator privileges, do:
apple icon > system preferences > accounts
click on your account and see if the allow user to administer this computer box is checked.
One way get your person documents folder, you double click on the machintosh hd. Next, click on the little house icon on the lower left side of the screen. This will get to all your personal files and folders. One of the folders is your documents folder.
I agree with the prior poster to find someone who has worked with the mac before to give you a quick tutorial.
I suggest you visit the local library or book store and checkout or buy a book on using Mac OS Tiger.

Please help - new to Mac. Storage options for 11" MBA 128GB

Hi,
I am a PC laptop user considering moving over to a MBA 11". I need portability and I'm worried about the storage capacity for the MBA at 11" - I'm on a budget. The next step up for me would be the 13" MBP for storage space/cost (and then I start getting confused about Serial ATA/SSD).
I currently estimate to have about 80-90GB of files on my PC (I estimated this from what's on my PC, and guessing at extras on my external HD). Most of this is music and photos from years of travel that I do not want to lose. My external HD once stopped working and I lost photos, so I never want that to happen again.
I understand I can also get an external HD for the MBA, as well as back everything up with Time Capsule/Machine.
Are there any other solid options?
Is it too risky to store all music/photos solely on external drives, leaving the main machine free for work?
The main things I will be using it for are writing, iTunes, streaming TV/movies, web browsing and blogging, and some light photo editing.

If you don't have them backed up to another hard drive, yes. I have a MacBook Air with a 256GB drive but I have about 3.5 TB of media (which is backed up on other drives). I keep a small selection of my photos, music, and video on the MBA but the rest is on a network accessable drive. If I have WiFi I can access the data on that drive. It is a pretty good solution.

Don't know if you're in the U.K. but PC World are doing a good deal on the HP w2207h - £199.
Just bought one for my Mac Mini and am extremely pleased with it - worked straight out of the box at its 1680 x 1050 resolution, it's very clear, at least to my ancient eyes, and the colours are superb and it comes with several presets i.e Movie; Photo; Gaming; Text and custom. It also comes on a stand that is height adjustable and tilts & swivels you can even turn it to portrait mode should that be your thing.
On top of that it also looks visually superb, to me at least, seems extremely well made and the on/off button is located on the top edge, unlike a lot of monitors, so you don't get the blue 'on light' staring you in the face all the time.
As I stated earlier, couldn't be more happy with my purchase, and I initially went to PC World to compare the LG and the Samsung.

Airport.......inferior to PC WiFi ?????? Help, new to Mac

Sorry if this has been covered but I have just spent a lot of money on this Macbook Pro and I ind myself the ridicule of my friends becuase when we all sit around the same table with our laptops, the only one that cannot get connected to a WiFi signal is me, the one with the vastly more expensive laptop.
Is this something I am doing wrong or have not set up properly?????

please, give us a few more details to help you. i don't know how familiar you are with macs. here a few hints:
first: go to system prefs, choose network, and let you guide though the process of setting up.
or: launch the "InternetConnect" utility, switch on airport, and connect to the network.
plrease report back in any case, and come with more details, if it doesn't work.

Help, new to Mac.. iMac boot but keyboard doesn't work...

Not sure what happened but the mac would now boot to ask for password. The keyboard does not respond. Act as if it not paired. I boot with the OS cd and the keyboard works fine. So I not it's not a hardware issue.
One more note, I put a usb keyboard, and when I type the user name, it appears the keyboard has been remapped.
Anyone seen this?

Also, try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Cheers! DALE

HELP new to mac..

hi,
i have a OneTouch4 Maxtor 500GB external hard drive,USB powered. my external hard drive is partition in 2 halves. half is in use with my time machine for mac os x leopard and the other half is for my vista where i store all my files(music,photos and movies). i can mount both volumes onto my macbook fine and i can access both volume.
but the problem is when i try to edit files onto the volume where i save all my photos and musics. it won't allow me to delete any files or make any changes from my macbook onto my external HD. It wont let me copy anything onto that volumes it say it cannot be modified. so every time i need to delete some thing off my ext HD i need to use my vista to do so.but it let me copy files from it onto my macbook.
the other volume allocated for the time machine works fine its just the other volume that wont let me add and modified files on it.
i think its something to do with the permission and stuff..
ANY SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS are the most welcome.

Umm, no. You are not using Time Machine with a FAT-32 volume. Not in this universe
Time Machine must use an HFS+ volume. By definition, any drive that you are using to store a Time Machine backup will be formatted as HFS+. If you point Time Machine toward a volume that is not HFS+, it will format it as part of the process of making the initial backup. Many "switchers" have lost their Windows data this way, since formatting a volume erases everything on it.
At any rate, the reason you cannot read the Time Machine backup volume from Windows or Linux is that the volume is HFS+.

hey everybody i just bought an ibook g4 a few days ago and i love it. i am heading overseas to italy to stay with some family for the summer. and i wanted to know if i would be able to get wireless internet there or if there is wi-fi if my airport extreme card would pick it up. thanks for your help!
