G4 Mini - Can't see CD or internal harddrive, but FireWire is fine

G'day - if someone has had this problem sovle before, I would appreciate just being pointed to the topic. Otherwise, here's my problem and what I've tried so far. Thanks for any help.
I'm guessing its a hardware issue - but since my machine's out of warranty if somebody could help me pin point it, I could decide what to do better.
The Problem:
Every now and again my computer will freeze upon waking from sleep. Sometimes it will be fine until I click on an item on the dock. It seems that it crashes when it needs to access the harddrive.
Upon restarting I get the flashing finder/question mark icon.
If I bung in my Tiger CD-ROM and restart holding 'C' the computer returns to the flashing icon.
If I hold option on startup, neither the hard drive or the cd-rom show up to boot from. If I've powered up my FireWire Backup drive I can see my cloned volume.
The CD is now stuck in there until the problem fixes itself. I can't eject the cd with the mouse button or through open firmware.
Things I've tried:
I've booted from my FireWire. The CD and HD do not appear on the desktop and are not listed in Disk Utilty or the Choose Startup Disk dialog.
I've also tried resetting the PMU and PRAM. No dice, I think. Sometimes a few reboots after resetting the PMU the problem fixes itself - but this is probably a coincedence.
Mysteriously the problem is fixed:
Sometimes a couple reboots after a PMU reset while I'm trying to eject the cd with the mouse button - suddenly the cd will eject and the computer boot normally.
The proximity of this to the PMU reset could just be chance, I suppose, since I'm actively fixing it.
It could be something else. Or it could be fixing itself randomly.
Any help is very much appreciated as I'm finding it hard to my honours with this problem

I have a question for ya'll. Is there any reason why my new Mac mini 2.0g system can't see the wireless networks that my Imac can?

On the Mini, using 10.4 or 10.5 My mini can only see my wireless network. Which is only 1 foot away from the mini (and Imac).
It has been suggested to me that my antenna is bad ... Are there ways to test this? Or is it just inherit for the mini?

The Mini has a much smaller antenna (the size of a larger postage stamp) -- and it is located in the back upper right corner, as you face the mini from the front.
The antenna is less capable than the larger antenna in the iMac, and it is more easily blocked. Make sure nothing is between it and your wifi router.

Why can I see photos in photo view, but now event view?

Why can I see photos in photo view, but not in event view. The event shows up, but when I open the event, it says there are no photos in the event. The only way I can actually open a photo in the event is to be in photo view, and open the photo from that view.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

It's a risk if you're using POP3 mail. You can archive mailboxes to another location for safe keeping.
Or, just try adding new versions of the accounts without deleting the old ones (you can have duplicates, name them different so that you can tell them apart). If the new ones work, then you can just drag the mail folders from the old to the new and then delete the old.

Mac Mini – can't see Internal HD after adding SSD-.

I have installed a SSD in my brand new Mac Mini – it was shipped with the 1TB drive.
I booted up and got the blinking Question Mark Folder.
• So, I booted up with option held down; I could see the SSD and the Apple 1TB (which has Mavericks system installed).
• No problem I thought – it probably needed me to choose the start up disk
• Opened Disk Utility; I can see both drives; that's good! I thought I'd format the SSD while I was here, so I did.
• Quit out of Disk Utility to get Start Up Disk options – both discs missing. Oh, dear.
• So booted up again and did an internet recovery; putting a system (Mountain Lion) onto the new SSD (whereas before it was an empty, erased Disk).
• This took an hour over the net but it worked. I booted up with it and it very fast – but the Apple internal 1TB is missing.
Weird part:
• Opened Disk Utility on the computer; I can see only see the new SSD; so I opened Disk Utility to see if I could view the internal, nope - not there.
• So I thought I would be scientific and boot up again holding OPTION down; opened disk Utility; and viola – there's both drives; each with a system and OK according to Disk Utility.
So in a nut shell – when I boot up with Disk Utility holding OPTION I can see the internal BUT when I am booted up as normal with the new SSD; and open Disk Utility; I can't see the internal.
Shall I just erase the 1TB internal and start again? I spent a bit of time Migrating my old machine to this 1TB; so would like to not to have to do that gain.

I have similar issue.
I can see my Samsung 840 Pro 256 SSD and original 1TB hard drive in Internet recovery mode. But it did not allowed to format 1TB drive. As soon as software installed into SSD and booted from it, my 1TB vanishes.
Do you have any luck?
What did you to get your 1TB back?

IPod mini can't see firewire power adapter after 1.4.1 update

I updated my mini to the (infamous) 1.4.1 update, and now my firewire connection doesn't appear to work. When plugged into the computer with the firewire cable, mini doesn't appear on desktop or in iTunes, though it will start recharging the battery. When firewire power adapter is plugged into dock or into mini to try to recharge, it doesn't work. I purchased a new firewire cable & adapter but it's behaving the same way. USB cable to computer works fine (mini shows up on desktop and in iTunes). I've tried the Reset, Retry Restart, Reinstall, Restore. protocol several times with no success. I've tried Resetting the mini while plugged into the firewire power adapter. No luck.
Any suggestions?
Is there a way to uninstall this update?

Thanks Chris - I did this, and am now running the earlier version of the software, but my iPod still can't see my power adapter. Any ideas about this?

MAC Mini can't see HD

I have a AEBS working fine, sharing a printer and HD. I can see everything fine from my powerbook. Connect to the HD fine and can see it in HD utility.
Today I tried to connect my MAC mini to AEBS, I can get out to the 'net ok but I can't see the HD.
The HD utility doesn't see the HD and it won't even appear on the menu bar.
Any ideas?

Yep, clicked on the disck util, checked the buttons, it won't appear in the menu bar, even after I restarted and it won't see the drive. This is very strange.
I can print and also get to the net from the mini
Everything works on the powerbook fine.

Mac can't see company's internal website

I have a MBPro with WinXP in VMware. My can cannot 'see' our company's internal webiste. I am supposed to be able to type "pronet" and it takes me to my company's internal website. When I type in in my mac browser it takes me to an external website, but when I type it in a windows web browser in VMware it takes me to the right place. Any ideas?

DNS, or WINS?
The mac isn't resolving intranet names because it does not recognize netBIOS names, and does not use WINS (to resolve netbios names.)
If the XP side is not configured for the correct WINS server, it will not be able to resolve the intranet name, either.
The WINS issue can be fixed by adding the IP and name to the HOSTS file on the mac. At one point, adding the windows WINS server to the DNS list in the network configuration on the mac alos worked.

I have gotten the range extender to work well with my MacBook Air, however, while my iPhone 3Gs and iPad mini can pick up the wireless signal from the range extender, they cannot get to the Internet through it. No IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, or DNS appear in the details on either the iPhone or the iPad mini. How do I get the iPhone and the iPad to connect to the Internet. It seems that the problem is with the iPhone and iPad, since the MacBook Air works just fine with this set up.

Go into the setup page of the EW-7438RPn. Go to Wireless Advanced Settings. There is a WMM settings. Make sure the WMM is enabled.
This may help you out.

Can't see PC's on network, but can ping them, connect to server etc

Hi All
I'm experiencing something pretty bizarre.
I have a small network at my office. There are 3 PC's, and 2 Macs, one of them a Mac Mini running 10.6.5. All computers are set to the same workgroup. All the PCs can see all the Macs, no problem.
Yet my Mac Mini can (most of the time) only see the other Mac. (When I use Go > Network).
I can ping all the PC's from the Mac Mini. But they won't show up in the network view.
The annoying thing is sometimes I can see all the PC's (theres no pattern to it!) and I have connected to a printer on one of the PC's. With that particular PC, if I use 'Connect to Server' I get
'Select the volumes you want to mount on "packing-pc" but there are no volumes in the list.
Whats really bugging me is that sometimes all the pcs are there when I view the network, and sometimes they aren't.
ANyone got any ideas please? I'm pulling my hair out! I wanna ditch my PC at work but until I can print reliably (to the PC with the printer attached) I can't!

If you right-click the image in Internet Explorer and check its Properties, is it on the same server as the page or on a different server? Do both have a matching protocol (e.g., HTTP or HTTPS)?
More generally: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

On my iPhone 5 (since activating with iTunes Match), I CAN NOT see all my music. There are artists that I can not see, nor their songs. BUT I can see them on the iPad3 and on iTunes on my PC.

It might take a while (30 minutes or more) for the initial sync to finish.
When it finishes, here's how to see all you desktop bookmarks:
