G4 sometimes wont turn on

I have a G4 PowerPC, with dual 1.25g processors, OS 10.4.11. Within the last month, I am having a intermittent problem. Once in a while I push the button to turn the computer on and nothing happens. If I unplug the power cable from the rear and plug it right back in, I can then push the on button and all is well. I have replaced the power cable with another known good one. I have checked the power plug on the Mac for anything loose, all appears well. Any ideas what is causing this start failure that is fixed by just unplugging the box and plugging it right back in. Am I heading for a catastrophic fail ?
I would like to search here for possible answers, however (dont laugh), I am on a 24.4K dial up, My search ability is neutered LOL !

Still, a fresh PRAM battery as BDAqua recommends is a very good place to start, especially if the battery has never been replaced. Expect about 3-4 years service from that battery, or much less if the computer has been off wall power for any length of time. If the battery is on its last legs and you unplug the computer even to move it to another room, that could be enough to finish off the battery.
If the resets and battery replacement don't help, you could have a bad front panel board. They are neither terribly expensive nor hard to replace, but are hard to test. A Mac tech at a local university suggested the only way he knows to test: Get an original iMac USB keyboard at a swap meet or a parts shop. It must bear the model "M2452." It has a power button like the old Apple ADB keyboards. Connect it and see if the computer starts. The tech said the button on the KB should override the one on the front panel and start the computer. If it starts, that's an indication that the front panel board is bad.
If the old keyboard works and you have room, you could stop there and always use the old board for startup, of even all your typing if the rest of it works.

Im really hoping someone can help me!
when i plug in my i-pod it comes up on the screen as "do not disconnect" in my computer it is recognised as a removable disc but not as an iPod. It is not being detected in iTunes.
I ahve re-installed everything about 3 times but it has not made a difference. It works the first time i try..but then returns to not working afterwards.
Another problem i have is that when i go to turn it on (it has charge left in it) it wont turn on and i ahve to hold the menu and circle button down until it does turn on.
can anyone help me??

Hold the menu and the middle button down for about 10 seconds...the Apple will appear... release.

Brand new 260x sometimes wont turn monitor back on

I got a MSI R7 260x last month and put it in my old system and when I'd step away from my pc and monitor would turn off after a few min, when I got back nothing would make the monitor go back on until I restarted by pushing the restart button. I didnt worry too much because I figured that maybe going from NVIDIA drivers to Intel to AMD did something funny. Since I was about to rebuild my pc with some new parts and a fresh Windows install I pushed my worry aside.
Now on my rebuilt pc with fresh Windows, I have the same problem although it isnt currently happening every day. More like every other day. I've tried both the drivers from MSI and from AMD and the same problem happens either way.
any ideas?

Have you seen the reviews on newegg? Seems to be a widespread problem for this GPU across multiple brands. Since this video card was released over a year ago (I think) and the issue wasnt fixed, is it safe to assume neither AMD nor MSI are working on a fix?
I've seen some people say that going into AMD Overdrive and reducing memory clock settings to 850Mhz fixes the issue. Wouldnt this reduce performance? An other suggestion is to increase the power limit setting. The thinking is that the GPU sometimes has issues coming out of power saving mode.

I went to icare twice and they game me the device back after 1-2 weeks saying it is now not giving any issue but when i will used it next morning again same thing happened. It's like i can never go out anywhere with the laptop outside as i have to first charge it and then turn it on. Icare wont replace my device they only say if there is any issue with the hardware we will replace that hardware but i think it is useless because they don't know what the issue is. Can someone help me out what to do now ? It's been to iCare ever since i bought it now i don't want them to again do the same thing.

Macbook Pro wont turn on - sometimes

I have mid-2009, 13 inch Macbook Pro. Recently I am noticing trouble. Once in a while when I put it to sleep by closing the lid, the light stays lit (which is suppose to go on and off indicating sleep). And when I open the lid, there is nothing on the screen and the light goes away. I close the lid, again the light lits up and stays up. So the macbook wont turn on.
Does anyone have any idea why is this? I sometimes keep the power button pressed for 5-6 seconds and force shutdown and boot again and then it works. Is it a good idea? is there any other way in these situation?
Is there something wrong in the hardware?
Please help ...

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you try to wake your computer when opening the lid have you tried tapping one of the keys on the keyboard to wake it?
If that does not work then try doing a SMC reset follow these instructions.
SMC RESET
It is possible you are having hardware problems with the lid sensor but let try some other steps first.

My ipod touch 5th gen wont turn on. it keeps dying sometimes it would die even if it was in charge, once it dies it doesnt turn on it keeps flashingthe apple logo and so i put it to restore and while it was restoring it said that there was an error and that it couldnt restore my ipod so i took it out of chrage and put it back in and it showed that my ipod was dead so then after a while it turned on and it showed the connect to itunes sign i connexct it to itunes but itunes doesnt let me restore or update. so i took it out of the usb that was plugged to my laptop and it showed that it was charging but it was dead, i left it in chrage for 3 hours and i dont know what happend but now it completly wont turn on

IPod 4g wont turn on.

My iPod 4G wont turn on for some reason. I was recently play a game with my friend (Finger foos if it matters), and I sent it on my counter to take out the trash. When I came back my iPod screen was black so I assumed it went into idle/sleep mode. When I went to unlock it, nothing happened. I knew that it didn't run out of battery because I had just charged it. So I then tried to turn it on, again, nothing. I have tried all the troubleshooting that I possibly can. I tried connecting it to my conputer, docking clock, ps3, and the wall. Nothing seems to get it to turn on. I also tried resetting it and putting it into DFU mode. Again, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
Extra: I'm not sure what iOS I have on it, it has been a while since I have updated it. But, my iTunes is the current one. My iPod is proabably 4.2.(somthing), maybe even 3.

Generally no to the second question. Sometimes updates do correct prolems but I have not heard a freezing problem corrected by an update.

How long have you left it to charge? It could take up to 30 minutes for the iPod to show any signs of life, and sometimes a hard reset of the iPod is still required to get it to boot up. Here are instructions for rebooting the iPod Shuffle.

My macbook that wont turn back on after I open the lid

Well my macbook is very fast and works great, *+when it turns back on+.* I leave it on most of the time and close it, plugged into a power cord, when i am done using it. I am not putting it to sleep or turning it off, just closing the lid. When I open the lid, it sometimes turns back on, and most of the time doesn't. The little light on the outside turns off when I open it, and when I close it, it turns on. I will push the power button, that doesn't do anything.
I will take the battery out and unplug it from the wall, put the battery back in and all, and it still wont turn back on. After I play with it for a few minutes, it will either turn back on, go to a grey screen with a grey progress bar, or pretend like I turned it on by going to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little spinning circle at the bottom. I have done disk utilities, any kind of utility i could think up, but it still does this. I was running tiger when it started happening.
I tried repartitioning the hard drive, backing everything up and reinstalling osx. still a problem. i recently upgraded to leopard. still a problem. I have no idea whats going on because it is not consistant. it will randomly do this. I have even sent it to apple and it wasnt fixed.

It sounds like it's hardware-related. Note the exact time the events occur, and then check your system logs in your Console application for clues to the cause.

To turn the iPad completely off, you would hold the Sleep button until the "Slide to power off" arrow appeared, and then slide it off. Conversely, to turn it back on you would need to hold the Sleep button for several seconds until the Apple logo appeared. You might think it was not responding if you did not hold the Sleep button long enough.
If that approach does not help, try holding both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow if it appears. If successful, the iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
Beyond this, you may need to show your iPad to an Apple Store Genius. If the Genius can not solve the problem, you will probably get a replacement iPad on the spot.

No. The adapter will power the player without the battery. Sometimes the player can lockup so a reset is worth a try, but clearly that hasn't helped.
Sounds like either the adapter or player is faulty. If you bought it locally then return it there, otherwise you'll either want to return it to the retailer or via Creative support.

i dropped my i pod touch 5g on its face (without case) one night. A couple days later it randomly shut down. Throughout the days after it shut down it would turn on sometimes for about 10 seconds but now it wont turn on at all. Ive tried charging but it wont turn on AT ALL. Ive also tried plugging it in to a computer to get the pictures off but it wouldnt turn on so i couldnt.The only reason why i havent tried restoring it is because i want the pictures off. if you know the answer or atleast anything please tell me. Please and thank you.

if there's not liquid or accidental damage (like have you ever dropped it?) a repair would be free.
Try this first: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 to restore the device, but please not that it will erase everything on the device, so I hope you have a backup.

My wifi wont turn on

My wifi wont turn on and has no wifi hardware installed displayed. futhermore when i go to turn it on it doesnt let me? ive been reading about mutiple problems with lion which i seem to be having ever since i installed it, but no solutions yet seem to have solved my issue, please help.

Sometimes you can get lucky here with an SMC reset or a PRAM Zap.
Let's try those and see...

Lenova Think pad makes 8 beeps and screen wont turn on

I have a black lenova thinkpad laptop and once in a while when i turn on the laptop, it makes 8 beeping noises and the screen wont turn on at all but it sounds like the laptop is on. I have tried fixing this by keeping the laptop in the fridge for a day because i think it was becaue it was over heated. Once i take it out, it works perfectly fine. But when it happens again it eally gets on my nerves and it sometimes happens at poor times when i actually NEED to use my laptop. This has happened probably over 12 times now. I have no idea how laptops work or what the different parts of them are called. So if there is a solution, please explain it in a simple manner. Thank you!

Please tell us what model laptop you have. The Hardware Maintenance Manual for you laptop probably has a "beep code" section that may help narrow down the situation.
For example. if a T420 emits One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, three
more short beeps, and one short beep. It can be a memory module or the system board.
The beep codes may be common to all ThinkPads (I'm not sure...) but it would be good to look up the documentation specific to your machine.
