G4 Titanium 1GHz needs PCMCIA card

Doing video work and need more firewire ports. Recommended a Lacie card. Need to know if it will fit. Emailed Lacie. Has anyone here installed a PCMCIA card into the G4 and where are the instructions.
thanks

Hi again,
I am using Avid Xpress Pro Mojo for video editing. This is what they are recommending.
Just had a quick looksee at Avid's website. In the system requirements page they list numerous different cards for PC Systems (I am assuming this is what they refered to when recommending PC Cards, as PCs hardly ever come with FireWire ports - especially PC notebooks):
http://www.avid.com/products/xpressprohd/specs.asp
You'll notice that no PC Cards are required for Macs as they have firewire ports as standard. Therefore, if you need to connect more than one peripheral which only has one firewire port, a firewire hub should do the job for you.
I should point out that I am not a video expert... it's all Greek to me
If you are still doubtful, give Avid a call, tell them that you are using a Mac and see what they say.

  • Powerbook Titanium/G4 need compatible USB PCMCIA USB 2.0 card

I have a G4/Titanium Powerbook and acquired a new iPod Nano (4th G). It requires a USB 2.0 port to synch/recharge, but my Laptop only has USB 1.1. I thought that a PCMCIA card would remedy the situation, but when I purchased one from SIIG, I was told by their Tech SUpport that the card did not support iPods. Synching on the USB 1.1 is murderously slow and I want to keep my war horse functional as long as I can. Does anyone know of a PCMCIA Card USB 2.0 adaptor that will work with iPod Nano 4th G? Thanks.

    Hello Jim,
You've landed in the PowerMac G4 forums for late-model desktop machines like pictured under my name at the left. The G4 PowerBooks have separate forum areas, broken down by model. This link takes you to the forum for the Ti PowerBooks:

You may also consider asking on the appropriate iPod forum, as someone there may have worked it out for your model.

  • Portege 3480ct: Cannot use the 16bit PCMCIA card

    Hello,
    I got a Problem with a PCMCIA-Card (new media wave jammer, 16bit) on a 3480 with Win98 & XP.
The card appears as a unknown device only in the "remove Hardware"-Tool.
In the device-manager it isn't listed at all and Windows didn't ask for the driver.
Looks like a demaged card, but this card still works fine in another Notebook!
The Problem could be related to different Memory areas used by the Cardservice.
The Cardservice at the 3480ct seems not to be configurable.
    What can i do?
    Thanks

    Hi
The PCMCIA card doesnt need an driver!
From my knowledge you should check the settings in the BIOS!
On the second BIOS page you should try to change the Device Config to All devices and in the PC card section you should set the controller mode to Cardbus/16bit
    .then save the BIOS settings.
    Maybe it helps

  • Firmware for 3Com Bluetooth PCMCIA card

I've just recieved my new 3com pcmcia bluetooth card (3CRWB6096). According to google it was supposed to work with Linux.
I think it will, but there's something about needing the windows firmware file- BT3CPCC.bin. I have said file, and have tried putting it in both /etc/bluetooth/firmware and /lib/firmware (where the community package bluez-firmware puts similar files for other cards).
However, I'm still getting the following in dmesg on plugging the card in...
pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0
    pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.0
bt3c_interrupt: Call of irq 4 for unknown device
    bt3c_open: Firmware request failed
bt3c_interrupt: Call of irq 4 for unknown device
    bt3c_open: Firmware request failed
bt3c_interrupt: Call of irq 4 for unknown device
So the question is- where do I put this file? What should it be called? Is it in the kernel config or something? Where do I find out?
Any pointers would be very much appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Simon

    Some progress...
Oh I'm stupid. It turned out that I hadn't properly extracted the firmware, and that the file was actually empty. Once I managed to get the file out of the package, I put it in /lib/firmware/BT3CPCC.bin and it now loads it. However, hciconfig reports the device as having the address 00:00:00:00:00, and times out when trying to start or reset it.
I found someone with a Debian laptop and bluez installed at a recent LUG meeting. It worked! So now I know that it's possible. I then downloaded debian and installed in on a spare partition. After finally realising that I hadn't upgraded to a 2.6 kernel, I got my card working there as well. That's with bluez 2.15 and a patched kernel 2.6.8, which is quite a lot older than Arch's packages (I"m especially surprised at the kernel version).
So, where can I get hold of Arch packages for bluez 2.x?
    Thanks
    Simon

  • What is a PCMCIA card used for

A friend keeps asking me what a PCMCIA card is and does she need it and does apple have it. I said its used mainly for laptops? Can someone clarify and is it a good thing to have? I have a G4 quicksilver and may get an Imac but just need to know what this card does. I read somewhere Apple does not have it?

PMCIA - Personal Computer Memory Card International Association
These are cards which add, if you like, an extended function to the computer they are inserted into. A common example was a modem or a netowrk connection. Not all computers have (or need) these.
Apple's most recent notebook computers, for example the MacBookPro, have a new type of card called the Express/34 card (34mm wide). Old PMCIA cards will not work in this port and the Express/34 cards do not work in older PMCIA ports.
It is a good thing to have if you need the function.
The latest iMacs do not have this port, but you would probably never need this anyway.

  • Macbook pro & vodafone 3G PCMCIA card-how can I use this?

    Hi
I have recently bought a macbook pro and love it but I need a way of using my company vodafone 3G PCMCIA card on the move. Do you know of a compatible USB card holder I can slide the vodafone 3G card into or a 3G mobile solution that fits the funny express card slot (that is available in the UK for me to use). How are all of you making out who used a vodafone 3G card with a G4 15" powerbook like I did now you own a macbook pro?
Happy to buy an adapter or even look into a new 3G internet provider but it must be available in the UK and work with my macbook pro?
    All ideas appreciated.

  • Getting Contacts entered into Car's Bluetooth via PCMCIA Card & Macbook Pro

I have a iPhone 4 and have it paired to my Mercedes bluetooth.  Contacts (which create the phone book in the car's bluetooth) have to be created using a PC MCIA memory card inserted in the vehicle.
Does anyone know how I can create the contacts with a Macbook Pro and get them to a PCMCIA card?

Have now tried to connect the MacBook Pro to the Lexus, but although the mac sees the Lexus as a headset (as it should) when I enter the Passcode, they fail to shake hands so the Mac is not added as a 'phone' on the Lexus. This is fairly understandable as the Mac will not be presenting its self as a Phone>Smartphone device, but rather a Computer>Laptop device.
I thought I could get it to spoof the Phone>Smartphone bit using the Bluetooth Explorer app, but that doesn't seem to work as I had hoped.
Something else I noticed using Bluetooth Device Inspector (http://www.radioactivetoy.com/), my OS 10.5.4 MacBookPro shows the following Bluetooth services:
    Serial Port (SPP)
    AV remote Control (AVRCP)
my iMac and iBook which are both on 10.4.9 show the following services:
    OBEX Object Push (OPP)
    OBEX File Transfer (FTP)
    Serial Port (SPP)
It seems Mac OS 10.5.x has removed the OPP protocol from the Bluetooth device. I'm pretty sure OPP is what the Lexus would use to receive the Address Book data on a phone, so this would be needed.
As a result of this, I tried connecting the iBook to the Lexus, but still had the same connection issues as before, so I wasn't even able to test the contact transfer.
Unless someone knows how to get the mac to show as a mobile phone, I don't hold out much hope for this method of transferring contacts

  • Wifi pcmcia card with antenna for PB g4...

Will any wireless card work in the pcmcia slot of my PB G4 or does it need to be Apple specific? I already have the built in Airport extreme but I want to get a pcmcia card that has an external antenna attachment. My neighborhood has free wifi spots that are a bit out of range.

  • Where can I find a PCMCIA card for RS422 Digital I/o?

I have an RS-422 single pulse signal coming to me from an external device. I have a laptop that has software, written by me, that needs to trigger when the RS-422 single pulse signal is received. Is there a PCMCIA card anywhere that can receive the RS-422 pulse and allow me to trigger?
    Thanks for your help.
    "Lockheed" Joe
    Testing Blog"

The PCMCIA 485 card is capable of communicating with 422.
Now for the application. A lot of this is going to depend on the timing of the pulse.
    What are the exact requirements:
    1. How fast do you need to trigger after the pulse?
    2. How wide is the pulse and what is the polarity?
Could the pulse be viewed as some type of character or other serial event (maybe a break) and then the driver interrupts on that?
    3. What does trigger mean in this case?
Do you need to send some data, sample some DAQ inputs, ...?

  • Getting Wireless PCMCIA card to work

Attempting to get a Linksys wpc54G wireless PCMCIA card to work on my 1.5Ghz G4 PB.
I verified that the card works, by plugging it into to a PC.. ( works fine)
Plugging the card into my pcmcia slot, on nothing. No lights.. nothing.
I get the PCMCIA icon on the menu bar, three options
    unknown vendor <-grayed out
    Network controller <-grayed out
    Power card off.
I read where there might be some hack that I have to do to get PCMCIA support running, but no clues after that.
    Any help is greatly appreciated...
    Larry

    Hi,
When I got my PCMCIA wireless card (not Linksys) it came with an install CD. The G4 maybe wouldn't of known what it was or what to do with it on it's own, needed the install feature.
Works fine once installed. Did you get an install CD for it from Linksys? For the Mac OSX? If not, it might pay to check their web-site for one.

  • Can I interface a Pocket PC with instruments using a GPIB-PCMCIA card?

Currently, I am trying to interface a Compaq Pocket PC, iPAQ H3870, with some scientific instruments. I would like to be able to issue commands and gather data from the Pocket PC. Right now, I can create Visual Basic programs to issue the GPIB instrument commands on a computer, compile them, and transfer them to the Pocket PC to run them. But I need to connect the Pocket PC to the scientific instruments.
I was thinking of getting an expansion pack for the Pocket PC with a PC card slot, and then getting a GPIB-PCMCIA card, but then I realized that I would probably still need a way to connect the GPIB-PCMCIA cable to the Pocket PC or something? Would this in anyway work or would I have to try somethin
g else? I am not familiar with most of these devices, so my understanding of this is limited, so is it possible to accomplish this and if it is, what devices and cables would I need to do it? Thanks.

    Hey Edward,
If I have your configuration correct, you should be able to connect the cable that comes with the GPIB PCMCIA card directly to the GPIB card and in affect the Pocket PC expansion slot. (Cable Part Number: National Instruments P/N 182362-02, this is a 2 meter PCMCIA to GPIB Cable)
This has a special flat connector on one end for the PCMCIA Card. The other end is the standard 488 connector you would find on the back of most test/measurement equipment.
I believe there is also a serial port version of the GPIB PCMCIA cable. But I dont have that one, so I wont swear to it.
The other issue raised in your question is the DLL, or interface that you will be using. I havent developed in the Pockect PC environment, and truely havent looked for or at
    any Pocket PC Libraries.
You may find yourself developing some interface LIBs.
But I will look around and forward what I find, if anything.

  • PCMCIA card for motion control

    Hi,
I am trying to control a stepper motor through LABVIEW. After perusing through the site, I know that I would need a stepper motor, a corresponding motion controller and a universal motion interface. The problem I have is that I am trying to control the stepper motor through a laptop (which does not have the Parallel Port slot). I am wondering if a PCMCIA card could work (by providing a parallel port to the laptop) or if it would not meet the necessary requirements to operate the motion control through the universal motion interface.
    Thanks

It IS possible to drive an UMI interface with a parallel port providing TTL compatible outputs, basically the UMI interfaces are (advanced) break-out boxes feeding the step and direction pulses to a motor driver and connecting feedback signals (encoders, limit switches etc) back to the PC. But in this case, you would have to write your own routines for accelerating and slowing down, as well as evaluating the feedback signals from an encoder or limit switches. There are several manufactures making motor drivers which can be driven via a serial or USB interface, in case you cannot use a NI controller board it will be much easier to use such a setup since the motor drivers usually incorporate at least a basic motor controller providing a set of commands which makes it much easier to control a motor than with doing everything from scratch.

  • Multiple PCMCIA Cards

My system requirement, I need 16 16-bit Analog Input Channel, and 2-Analog Output Channels. However, there are no such product existing in the form of PCMCIA.
Can I have a 12-bit DAQCard with 2 analog output, working together with another 16-bit DAQCard with just the 16-bit analog input? Will they be able to communicate to each other?
Is the alternative Option of the 16-bit DAQCard with another PCMCIA 2-channel analog output card be feasible?

    Lik;
You are right when you say NI doesn't have a 16 bit PCMCIA card.
The best way to do what you need is by having 2 PCMCIA boards on your LapTop and having the same signal to trigger both Analog Input and Analog Output on the different cards. So, you can have maybe a digital signal which will trigger both operations at the same time. You can refer to the Application Note named "Advanced Synchronization Techniques for Data Acquisition" (you can find on our web site) to a good inside on how to sincrhonize operations.
    Hope this helps.

  • Firewire PCMCIA card recomendation

I'm looking to get a PCMCIA card for my laptop to enablea  firewire connection to an external FW soundcard - can anyone recommend one that's Linux comaptible? Ideally not too expensive, although I'll need to get one which won't add to much noise to the audio signal.

Apologies, I suppose I should've posted this to the laptop sub forum - mods please feel free to move this!
Also, I've realised that my laptop needs an ExpressCard not a PCMCIA card - I had no idea they were different until now!  I've purchased the following card:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 … ge_o00_s00
It seems to work, although I have some permissions issues that I'm confident I can get sorted out.
