G4 to G5 UPGRADE-LOST LIVETYPE ETC

Hi All. Have just upgraded from a G4 to a dual G5. Reinstalled FCE2.03, all perfect. Reinstalled DVD Studio Pro 2.05, it works ok. I cannot get livetype or compressor etc to activate despite trying the codes supplied with the software, the ok just remains greyed out. My supplier is a bit puzzled by it and is contacting the software gurus on mon next. Anybody any ideas.
We did have to play around with FCE and edit some of the command lines as per advice on this forum" AGP card missing" etc.
Thanks Mick
G5 Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   140G Lacie Ext Firewire HD

Hi and welcome to the  forums.
All eMacs are G4's and that cannot be altered. It is to do with the the CPU and the architecture of the logic board.
G4's and G5's are both PowerPC's and the last G5 was discontinued in 2006.
It was replaced with the Intel based Mac Pro in August 2006. All Macs since then have been of the Intel architecture.
As the upgrade path you are envisioning is not possible, at least not realistic, the simplest and most effective change to make the most of the latest WOW software is to get an Intel Mac.
The ambition to upgrade is the more environmentally sound and personally rewarding path, but that doesn't make as much money as calculated anticipated obsolescence.
The good news is, old Macs, like most old technology, is quite affordable. Just remember the OS disks must be part of the transaction.
Good luck in buying newer hardware and in WOW too.

  • Software upgrade - lost address book, calender, etc.

Yikes!  I messed up somewhere.  I upgraded my software per an email recommendation and when complete I have lost all my contacts, call log, calender appts., and many other applications (games, etc.).  Is there any way to get this back?  I'm kinda new at this,  I didn't do a manual backup beforehand, I figured it automatically did that.  Help!

  • Had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, new iPhoto etc. just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No rosetta and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

I had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, snow leopard and mountain lion,  just to connect my new iPhone 5 and somewhere between uploading iPhone 4S pics to iCloud some important pics disappeared then installed new iTunes and purchased new iPhoto all  just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No Rosetta to make apps work but its not as simple as upgrading apps and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

File a complaint with Apple for not giving adequate warning before upgrading OS X that it would render PPC programs dead.
That someone at Apple said requiring the iPhone 5 to have 10.8 (10.6.8 is the minimum actually) and in order to remain a loyal Apple customer they need to fix this mess and revert your machine and software back to 10.6.8
You see, 10.6.8 would have ran your iPhone 5 and ran your PPC based software, so whoever told you to upgrade to 10.8 was wrong and they need to fix your machine.
It can be reverted to 10.6.8 yourself.

  • Lost tags, etc. when upgraded from Elements 2 to 6, and XP to Vista on new computer.

I was using Photoshop Album 2 on old XP computer. About a year ago, I got new computer with Vista and I installed Photoshop Elements 6 on it. I had copied files from old computer onto a flash drive, then from the flash drive to the new computer. The pictures came over fine, but I lost all of the tagging. Any way to get that back?

You need to find the PSA2 catalog file, and copy that as well. I believe the default name of the file is My Catalog.psa, but I don't know where it would have been stored. You could search your hard disk for *.psa (turning on the feature to search in hidden fodlers). Then, you will have to convert the catalog to PSE6 (File->Catalog->Convert).
Or, in PSA2, File->Backup Catalog and then in PSE6 File->Restore Catalog

  • BB 8900 Upgraded lost all the data

    Hi,
I have just upgraded my BB 8900 to OS 5.0 for the first time and inadvertently backup was not taken, i have lost all my data including huge contacts information. Can someone help me urgently........ i m in a big mess

    Hello,
To be honest if the back-up has not been done, and there is no previous back-up, the data is unretrievable. Pictures, music etc should automatically save to the media card and may still be there.
If you have backed up previously you can restore the handset from that backup however any changes or additions to your data since the last backup will not be restored to the handset.
    Hope this helps

  • Imovie upgrade lost folders within events

Now that I upgraded, I lost folders in my events labeled ex. "2013" or months "September" etc..So now I don't know what year/month the movie was taken when I go into the new Imovie program. How can I access the original movie date taken ? On the old version, I had all my movies organized by months and years. Now they are all by events. I have no idea what year each one was taken to make a project.

I f you have identified the problematic event you can exclude it from the update by taking out of the iMovie 9 Events folder and parking it temporarily somewhere else.  This should hopefully allow you to udate everything else. Obviously projects with media in that event will report missing media.    After that it will a case of identifying the problematic clip.
If you are mid-way through editing projects you may want to consider finishing them in imovie 9 before moving to iMovie 10.  As you are no-doubt aware there are lots of changes in imovie 10 which will take some time to get used to.

  • IPhone 3 to 4.0.2 upgrade - lost contacts, messages, mail, calendar, notes

I have just upgraded my iPhone 3 to to the latest 4.0.2 OS. However, in doing so I have lost all my contacts, messages, mail, calendar and notes. How do I get all my lost information back.

    Hi,
I Sync'ed the phone before I started. When I initiated the upgrade, it took ~ 2 hours to back up the phone and upgrade the OS. I was confident that if anything went wrong, I would be able to restore to the previous settings. However, the only restore option is to restore to factory settings - there is not option to restore to previous backup, or just restore only the contacts, messages, mail, notes or calendar.
Alternatively, is there any way to see the contents of the contacts, messages, mail, notes and calendar. If I have to, I'll type the important details in again (or go round to Steve Jobs house and ask him to do it for me!).
Can someone provide easy steps to fix my problem.
    Thanks.

  • Windows 8 upgrade lost all my account settings

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 and it deleted my Thunderbird program. SO, I reinstalled it but I've lost all my account settings and e-mail folders.
I stored my e-mail folders in another location, and they're still on my harddisk, but I no longer see an option for controlling where the e-mails are stored in this version of T-bird.
Do I have to manually recreate all my e-mail accounts again? And, after that...how do I get it to read my e-mail folders? I have thousands of e-mails that I must have access to. This is a disaster!
    Please help.
    Thank you so much!

Thank you for your reply, but I don't think I was clear with the problem. I can find the account settings option. The problem is everything that was there before I installed Windows 8 is gone. I have to manually re-enter all my e-mail accounts, but all of my old e-mails are not showing up. I can get new e-mails (if I re-enter all the account information), but I have thousands of old e-mails and folders that I cannot access.
How do I get those folders back "into" Thunderbird? It doesn't allow me to import anything. I am only given the option to import from Outlook, and I don't even have outlook.
I was storing (at least I THINK I was storing) my e-mail files on a separate partition of my hard disk, and I THINK it's all still there, but there's no way to access those files for some reason on my newly installed Thunderbird.

  • IOS6 upgrade - lost contacts and calendar

Hadn't yet upgraded my iMac OS becasue of the likelihood of this sort of problem. Upgraded my iPhone to iOS6 and now I have no contacts or calendar. I use Outlook as default on my iMac, and all contacts and calendar info is still there (thank God - I use this for my business!) I still have texts (which only show phone numbers, not names!) and emails.
For a similar problem some time back, Apple suggested clearing the iSync log which worked a treat - not this time! I do not have iCloud enabled (yet) except to find my iPhone. I have iTunes 10.7 and my iMac OS is 10.6.8. I have tried adding my iPhone as a device in iSync, but get the message to say it cannot communicate with my iPhone. I suspect the basic problem is that Outlook is no longer syncing with Address Book and iCal - all the info was duplicated there before - no longer!
Any help/suggestions gratefully received...right now, I need this info on my iPhone, but don't have the time to upgrade my iMac OS. When I do that, I also plan to change from Outlook as my default email/calendar/addressbook and use Mail, iCal and Address Book instead.

This is just an educated guess,  but I think most if not all problems are related to data not synced with another service like Google or corporate mail. Data manually entered, and stored in the PlayBook only is lost. Even though this should not happen. Can someone verify this theory?

  • 10.4 upgrade - lost stuff

After my upgrade of my e-Mac from 10.3 to 10.4.10 , I can't find my iTunes Playlists. I did make a complete back-up of the hard drive before the upgrade but i don't know where to look on the external drive for what items, and what needs to be moved where.
Also can't find Entourage old mail, and mail address, and can't find firefox Favorites.
    Where are these things stored?

    Boba:
Drag and drop for documents and some applications will work fine. However, the are many hidden files that the system needs, that cannot be copied in that way.
The best method is to backup by cloning. If you have an external firewire HDD you can clone your entire drive as a bootable volume. In that way you will not only have a backup, but you will have an emergency boot drive.
There are many cloning software packages available, but in my experience I have found SuperDuper to be the easiest to use and most efficient. You can clone your entire HDD or only the Users Folder, which contains your data, your settings and your preferences etc. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery has excellent ideas. He recommends the use of Retrospect which I have found to be difficult, hence my preference for SuperDuper.
If you have any further questions, please do post back.
    Good luck.

  • If I reinstall Snow Leopard to replace "user" with my own short name in accounts, will I wipe out all upgrades, mail settings, etc. that I have already set?

After buying a second-hand laptop running Snow Leopard, I made mistake of upgrading software, creating mail accounts, Safari preferences, etc., before noticing that the account name was "user".  I want to replace this Admin account with my own short name, but can't seem to do it without completely reinstalling Snow Leopard.  If I do this, will I lose everything I have done already?  Thanks in advance,

  • 5.0 upgrade - lost Notes in applications and no games. Why?

I upgraded to the newest OS version and I now dont have notes in applications that syncs with my outlook 2007 and there are no games in the games section.  Why?  ANy solutions?  Thanks!

The file was on the same day as the update. I assumed it was a backup done before the update but it seems to be a backup of the updated content. I wonder why?
I have manually retrieved all of my lost apps now, and have re-entered most of my contacts manually. What a pain. I still can't find brick breaker anywhere though and will continue to look. I guess it's not a huge loss but we did enjoy the little game.
I will go into DTM and follow the steps you have outlined. I'll be back to give some kudos, too. I really like this forum. You guys really know your stuff and I'm amazed at how quickly you answer with the good ideas....and you don't make the beginners feel silly for not knowing the basics. That's really great. Thank you..
