G4 VGA monitor installed OS now want to use ADC monitor

My system was built using a monitor connected to the VGA port. I received the system and I have a 20" Cinema Display with an ADC connector. When I boot I see the Apple logo and the round progress display for a few seconds then the display goes black. I suspect that the system is still looking for the monitor on the VGA port and won't look at the ADC port. Is there any way to change the system to use the other port without reinstalling or connecting a VGA monitor (which I don't have access to)?

Now, firstly; your Mac won't likely be looking for a monitor connected to VGA; it will automatically sense that there's an ADC monitor plugged in, so there should be no issues there.
I can't think of a cause for such a problem off the top of my head. However, can you confirm that the system continues to boot after the display turns off?
It's quite possible that the power supply has weakened from age, and can't hold onto the requirements of running both the computer & screen for very long.
If you can still hear drive access, etc. after this point, I suggest you try resetting the PRAM; hold down command-option-P-R right after pressing the power button, and keep them held down until you hear the chime a second time.
Alternatively, hold command-option-O-F, and when the Open Firmware prompt comes up, type the following, pressing Enter between lines;
reset-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
Give that a try, you never know!

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one. I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI. Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870. That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.

I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can. From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance. The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs. Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA. I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000. Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected? I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are. I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4. Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:

Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:

Welcome. I am using Photoshop CS5 and this works fine for me. Possibly Adobe has changed this in CS6. Hopefully, LarryHN will have further suggestions. Best.

VGA/DVI cable - wanting to use two monitors.

I got a VGA/DVI cable to connect the VGA port on my LCD TV to the DVI port on my desktop computer. I'm trying to use 2 monitors on my computer which has both a VGA and DVI port. My regular monitor was already on, and the computer detected the TV as a monitor but the TV wouldn't detect a signal. I had the TV on the VGA/PC setting. The cable was a return item so it might be defective. I was wondering if there's anything else I could try to get it to work?

Ooooooh. So your computer may be one of the rare animals that doesn't have a DVI-I output, only DVI-D.
Since your TV has HDMI inputs, this is the way to go. Get a DVI-to-HDMI cable. It will provide higher quality than VGA and is USUALLY easier to use, I've never had video timing/resolution support issues with HDMI. (However, every computer I own has an Nvidia graphics card - the story may be different for ATI or Intel graphics!)

I have a HP Elite hpe210y with only two outputs of which are: 1) DVI-I and 2) HDMI. My situation is that I have 2 new HP Monitors with VGA Cables. I have an adapter for DVI-I to VGA and also VGA to Dual VGA. I do NOT want the monitors to work as Duplicates however. I want the second monitor to be an extension. I am also interested in getting even 2 more monitors in teh near future for a total of 4.
Is there some way I can get two monitors to work off one DVI-I ?
Will I be able to upgrade to up to 4 monitors?
Is there a part I need?
Wanted to mention that my OS is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. I use IE9, Chrome and Firefox
I would of never bought this from Best Buy if I had known in advance that there was just the one regular output. I see they have one called a Phoenix which I may look into.

You can use a hdmi2vga adapter for the second port.

They will use your current graphics device.
If you are looking for a new solution - I've read about DisplayPort version 1.2 that can do 'daisy-chain connection' with multiple monitors. But this you have to 'google' yourself.

After I moved to to different neighborhood, ATT informed me I had to upgrade from my former "elite" DSL to UVerse, which has wireless router. Want to use my Airport Express for AirTunes in a different part of the house, but I have repeatedly screwed up my network trying to reconfigure AE. Anybody have experience with this? Help!!

Thanks, Bob, for your quick response. Bit of a long story - I am talking about my place in the city where I live to work, about 6 hours away from where I am now; I am heading back there shortly. But, here's something like the whole story (as much as I can recall without the scratchy notes I have down there):
When I moved from apartment to house I bought 2 weeks ago, everything seemed fine - Uverse was installed and I used the AE to run powered speakers while I moved in. But then I noticed that my iPhone, and my friends' smart phones, would not connect to my home network. It was after I spoke to ATT support the first time, and they had me change security from WAN to WEP that my Airport problems started. My messing around trying to figure it out crashed my network at least once and caused another hour-long session with very helpful ATT support person re-setting my network.
So, Uverse security is WEP. My newish MacBook Pro runs 10.7.4. I was very frustrated by Airport Utility 6.1 not showing the AE, or only doing so if I made it my "base". I see from my older iMac here at home that I possibly need an older Airport Utility to detect the AE. But beyond that, I am gun-shy to try anything else with the AE without some advice.

Using ADC Monitor with the new Mac Mini

My husband has an Apple monitor with an ADC connection. I would like to purchase the new Mac Mini, but would like to use his current monitor. I know there is an ADC to DVI adapter, but the new Mac Mini uses the Mini Display...could I use yet another adapter? I am trying to save money, but don't want to the display quality to be really poor. Space is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have located that, but my concern is the DVI connection to the Mini Display connection on the Mac Mini. My understanding is that they are different.

This is my first attempt at using this forum so please be patient with me. I am new to the apple world. Bought an Imac desktop computer back in October and installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 because I was used to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and outlook. Now I am being told that I should be using ical for my calendar so that I will be better able to move to icloud for use between my Imac, Ipad2, and Iphone.
The question is: how do I move my calendar which is in "Outlook for Mac 2011" into ical on my Mac? Do I have to remove the Outlook entries from the computer and reinstall them back to the same machine or can I somehow move calendar entries within the machine? I appreciate any help I can get.
