G4 won't connect to Airport!

All of a sudden my G4 (seen below) won't connect to my airport network. Everything has worked fine for over a year now, until yesterday.
I took the G4 with me out of town over the weekend, came back on Sunday and hooked it all back up and jumped on the network. I installed MySync to sync up a MacBook and the G4. I put the G4 to sleep, went in the other room and downloaded the 10.4.6 update on a MacBook. The G4 was asleep until I got home from work Monday evening. When I tried to get on the network, it took a few hours of restarting, shutting down, and trying trying and trying. No idea how I finally got it. It just worked.
I put it to sleep and it sleep until Tuesday evening when the same trouble arises. If I click on the airpot icon repeatedly every 5 seconds or so, I see the three networks in my building, but they everytime I click on the airport icon, there is a different combination of the three. One time I get A and B, one time I get A, B, and C; one time I get A, and C; then B and C. This keeps going. If I try to connect to my network, I get "there was an rror joining the network."
While I was on brefly on Monday, I downloaded the 10.4.6 update, and two airport updates that I had been neclecting, b/c they didn't seem to apply and everything was working fine. since it stopped, I decided to download them.
The MacBook can get on the network fine, and there is a PC on the network fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks a TON!

NOTE: I came back a couple hours after my original post, and was able to connect without any problems, but I'm not sure what this means.
Thanks!

  • Iphone 5 won't connect to airport express?

I have recently bought an iPhone 5. Due to this not fiiting in my Bose sound dock i also purchased an Apple Aiport Express off ebay.
I have been trying to connect my iPhone 5 to my Airport so I can wirelessly play music off my iPhone through my sound dock. Unfortunately though when i go into my wireless settings on my iPhone it does find the airport but won't connect. It says the AirPort Express cannot be set up by this software? i also downloaded AirPort utility App but that doesn't even find the AirPort.
I don't understand this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - you will have to supply more info on your network to get some answers - for instance, what kind of modem do you have? - will this Express be the only router? - what generation is the Express?
But if you want to see what you have, try this:
Disable the wireless on your laptop.
    Unplug the Express.
Plug an ethernet cable from the WAN port (circle of dots) of the Express to the the ethernet port of the laptop.
Plug in the Express and open the Aiport Utility on the laptop.
You should now see the Express in the left pane of the utility screen - click on the Express and it will tell you what you have - if it asks for a password, the default is "public" - if this doesn't work, it means that the Express was not reset to factory settings - to do this, unplug it and hold in the reset button with a paperclip - plug it in and wait for the light to blink and release the button - when the light begins to blink slowly, it should show as a base station in factory default mode - it will also tell what generation Express you have.
Post back with this infornation and I can try to help you get started - btw I just got a new iPhone and it works great

  • AirPort Utility won't connect to AirPort for configuration

I was playing around earlier today with port mapping/static IP assignments, configuring my BitTorent client, when my AirPort network started to keep dis/reconnecting at regular intervals. I stopped what I was doing, and decided to reset the APX and start from scratch, and leave things as they were.
*The problem is, AirPort Utility often doesn't recognize the APX at all, and if it does it won't connect within the utility in order to configure the APX.*
This is strange, because after a hard reset, the AirPort icon in the menu bar shows will often connect to the now-generic, out-of-the box name Apple Network f790b07 but STILL AirPort Utility will NOT 'join network' in order to configure the APX.

  • HP pavilion won't connect to airport express

Okay, so my iMac connects just fine to my airport express and to the internet (obviously) but I can't connect my room mates HP pavilion to the same airport, it recognizes that there is the network, and it goes through all the motions of connecting and then says connected, but in the corner it still says that its not connect and won't connect to the internet.
    Any ideas?

There is a known issue with PC WiFi chip sets & configuring. It will show connected but not go online.
Only know solution HP covered it after I spent 2 hours with them on the phone, My cost. They said there is a problem with some chipsets. The workaround is to delete all network setting. (ie office or other locations) then configure the Wireless FIRST. If it is not the first network to be configured it will show your connected but not log on. Once the Wifi is the first connection it will work fine. Even at other wifi locations.
Only cost us 2 hours, plus charges before the A&^$#^hole at HP bothered to ask if we had other network settings. He said it's the best solution, but won't say why it was not the first thing he went over. I think HP owns Phone company stock!

  • Boot Camp: Windows won't connect to AirPort router

I got the new AirPort router from Apple in March and since then it's been working perfectly with my Macs as well as on Windows using Boot Camp.
A few days ago, I switched my AirPort setting to be Wireless-N ONLY so I could see some speed improvement on my Mac. The next time I used Windows, it would not connect to the network, so I then went back to my AirPort settings and switched it back to 802.11 G and N compatible. But both my Windows computers still won't connect.
Please help me set up the correct options. Thanks.

I just saw your post - I posted the same thing a little after you did. Did you figure out the problem? I haven't gotten any answers yet to my post.

  • ITunes 11.1 won't connect to AirPort Express

    Hello,
I just updated iTunes to ver. 11.1.0.126 from the previous version of 11.0.5.  Prior to this, everything worked fine, no issues ever with connecting to my airport express from iTunes.  Now that I've updated to 11.1 I get the following message when selecting my AirPort express for streaming:
"An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay Device 'CasaWalck AirPort Express'. The network connection failed"
The AirPort express is a bit older... an 802.11g, running the latest version firmware 6.3 and it's still attatching to my AT&T Uverse wireless home network just fine.  Went into the router admin to verify all is well, and it is.
At the end of the day, it seems to be the iTunes update that caused all of this.  I should also add that with the iTunes update, I also installed iCoud (which I didn't have installed before) and the latest version of Quicktime.
    I'm running
    - Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP tower.
    - AT&T Uverse wireles modem w/WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption
    - Netgear WNA1100 USB WiFi modem
    - Apple AirPort Express 802.11g w/firmware 6.3
Any help is greatly appreciated.  I really want to get my streaming to work again!

Okay, I'm logging this for anyone who might be experiencing the same issue.  I kept poking around my system until I found the solution myself.
In researching this issue, I kept coming across folks who found an issue involving their Mac systems. Since I have a Windows 7 platform that didn't do anything for me.  Initially I started suspecting an IPv6 compatability issue between iTunes 11.1 and my old airport express.  Found nothing fruitful there (including this so you don't waste your time chasing that down).  The other common theme coming up with others was their firewall.  I came across on thread in particular where if they disabled thier firewall, they got iTunes to connect to their airport express/airplay device again.  However, they were stuck with a choice between this working and having firewall protection.  I personally just couldn't operate without a firewall. So... I kept poking around and literally stumbled on the solution.
    Windows 7:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a Program or Feature Through Windows Firewall > Change Settings:
    - click to highlight iTunes from the list
    - click Remove
    - click Allow Another Program...
    - Select iTunes from the list and click Add
    - Click OK so save your settings.
    - Test your connection AirPlay/AirPort Express in iTunes. It should work
    - Restart your machine and test to make sure it still works after a reboot.  Mine did.
From what I can gather, the previous installation of iTunes logged some sort of profile or entry into the Windows firewall.  Once iTunes upated to 11.1, it seems whatever worked for the 11.0.5 install was no longer compatable.  By remiving and reinstalling this entry in the firewall, whatever was needed was refreshed and all is well with the world again.
For all the times this community has helped me out, I only hope I can return the favor.

  • New ISP - won't connect to Airport.

I moved to a new apartment. In my old place, I had Comcast DSL, and it was easy to set up - plug my Mac and Airport in and everything worked.
My new place is pre-wired for Verizon DSL, and nothing works. I just spent 2 hours on the phone with them, during which they solved exactly none of my problems. So PLEASE PLEASE help me - I'm desperate!!!
When connected directly on my computer, I can access the Internet. With the Airport, I haven't been able to. The Airport is recognizing my computer (light is green), but I can't get online.
Under "Network" in System Preferences, if I go under the "Built-In Ethernet" tab, the IP addresses are all correct - they correspond to Verizon's system.
Under "AirPort" it is set to join Automatically. The IP address is 10.0. etc., which they said is correct.
Yet, it won't work. I'm not sure what other information you need to be able to help me, or it may be better to have a number I can call.
    Any suggestions?!?!
    Thank you so much.

    KB 108046 states:
AirPort Express has two MAC addresses, and both are listed on its case. The one labeled "AirPort ID" is the MAC address for its wireless interface, and the one labeled "Ethernet ID" is the one for its Ethernet port.

  • PC won't connect to Airport

I have recently purchased a Macbook and AirPort router. My old set-up was a Desktop PC connected via ethernet to a router and a laptop PC which connected either via ethernet or via wireless. I have installed the AirPort with a printer and the Mac works fine. My desktop is now working ok, but I cannot get the laptop to connect at all, either using ethernet or wireless. In both cases the laptop "sees" the Airport but will not connect.
Using "Finder" I can "see" both a desktop and laptop device. I can open documents on the desktop, but not on the laptop.
When I have used the Airport Utility on the laptop, I can "see" the router, but when I try to update the configuration I get a message that says an error occurred with a code of "-6753"
    Any Ideas at all, please?
    Thanks

    Welcome Danno from Sydney!
... the building is made of thick concrete walls.
Concrete will attenuate the signal much more so than thin drywall and stud construction. Even plaster lath is a problem. In your case you'll want to set the Express's multicast rate as low as possible, but even that might not result in an acceptable signal through concrete walls. On the other hand, thick concrete walls means you can play Airtunes very loud and it won't disturb your flat mate.
You might try experimenting with a 2.4 GHz wireless mode. All else being equal, it will penetrate materials more successfully than 5 GHz. Don't bother with interference robustness, it won't help.
It was suggested that i buy another Airport Express and plug it in upstairs to create a bridging network.
Will that work, or are there any other suggestions some one may have?
I'm not familiar with the D-Link wireless router you have. If you can bypass its wireless mode, and just attach an Express to a LAN port (assuming it has one) then yes, it is possible to wirelessly extend your network.
If you are limited to using the D-Link as a wireless (only) router, then the answer is maybe. There is no accepted standard for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), but I've been able to make Airports work with third party equipment set to "repeater mode".
The ideal solution for you is a hammer drill, a long drill bit, and some cable.

  • IPad2 won't connect to Airport WPA2 Personal

I purchased in iPad2 today as a Christmas gift for my wife.
I attempted to set it up because she has problems, and once she has the product in her hands, then I have to direct over her shoulder and that is miserable.
Even more miserable is that I could not get the iPad2 to connect to the Airport network I had set up with WPA2 personal security.
Shoot, the iPad2 didn't even list WPA2 Personal, only WPA2 and I tried that. But it would not let me connect. I tried retyping password and network ID over and over, but it would not work. I could see the network, but I could not connect.
I returned the product because I did not want this headache on Christmas morning. I'd still like the product, but only if it works.
I've read elsewhere on the forums that with the new IOS5 the product does not work with any form of WPA security. For me that is not acceptable.
I tried calling Apple service, but after a while I was disconnected while waiting to talk. That happened four times.
    Any ideas.

    Thanks for your reply.
At the moment, i use WPA2. Here's more information: I have ATT DSL (not Uverse... just their crappy DSL service - it's all that is available in my area at the moment, and I don't have a cable option.) I'm using the Netgear router that they made me buy from them when I got the service. It's pretty terrible, actually, and has only become worse with time. Up until last week, I had an non-secure but hidden network. Most everything could connect, but I was having some trouble with some devices losing the network and not being able to find it on their own. So I decided to go with a password again. So now all my computers, phones, tablets, gaming systems, etc, are connected to the router using the WPA/WPA2 password, but the apple TVs won't do i
At first, the ATV doesn't ask for a password... just tells me that it can't connect and the password is wrong. Then when I go back, it displays a screen that tells me to select the kind of security my WIFI uses, but the only options available are WEP, WEP Hex and WEP ASCII

  • My iPad won't connect to Airport Wi Fi

Have tried all the resets suggested by Apple, but to no avail. All other Apple products (iMac, Powerbook and 2 x iPhones) all connect OK. iPad recognises Airport, but roundel continues to rotate and won't log in.

  • Macbook Air won't connect to Airport Extreme!

    I'm at a loss here.
Last week I got drive corruption because I lost connection while writing data to an external drive connected to my Airport Extreme (while using my iMac).
I had noticed the drive connection was dropping quite often, both using the iMac and Macbook Air...
After doing a bit of searching, I learned it could be that the Airport Extreme was dying... and indeed it explained why my internet had been so painfully slow at times too, which I had been blaming on the computers or browsers, not even thinking for 2 seconds about the router!
So I did the normal thing, and ordered the new Airport Extreme (mine was the 2nd generation, dating back 2008, so it was normal I upgraded).
Yesterday I installed the new Airport Extreme and everything seemed to work like a charm. Internet was fast and the drives didn't lose connection once on the Macbook Air (I didn't have a chance to test the iMac... altough the error message wasn't displayed anywhere when I looked at the screen this morning, so I guess it was good there too).
I made sure not to write anything on the drives, though, just to make sure the Aiport Extreme did work OK...
And this morning, what do I see on the Macbook Air? Impossible to connect!
    Internet works fine, no problem!
If I check Airport Utility, the Airport Extreme is there, green signal, everything's A-OK. And disk sharing is enabled, I double-checked.
I checked on the iMac... I can access the drives, just like yesterday.
But on the Macbook Air, I see the Airport Extreme icon in the Finder, but when I click on it I get the "Connecting..." for a while, until I get the "Failed to connect" and an error message saying it's impossible to connect to the server, to check if it's available and with the right IP address, etc.
How could it be offline, busy and/or with the wrong IP address if it's giving me internet and showing up as perfectly healthy on the Airport Utility???
How could it be not working, when it's working perfectly fine with the iMac???
The only thing I could see is if somewhere in the system the wrong info is sent (the right one for internet, the wrong one for Finder), but I don't know where that would be or how to change it.
I tried the usual restart, to no avail.
I tried removing the network in System Preference, and putting it back, no luck.
    As I said... I'm at a loss.
How could it just stop working, and just stop for the drive sharing?
