G40-70 issues

Hi all,
My first post and it's a beauty. I have a number of things happening with my laptop and I'm worried it is a major motherboard issue not drivers.  will list the issues and would be grateful for someone to give me an indication of any source of the problems.
1. Sound: Doesn't automatically recognise LCD tv, have to go into control panel and even then can't change the sound over sometimes.
Distortd sound on media players occassionally - VLC, PotPlayer (no previous issues)
Start up sounds distorted.
2. Won't always recognise plug-in appliances - external hard drive, mouse drops in and out occassinally.
3. Sometimes won't log off and I have to shut it down.
4. Unexpected shutdowns.
I'm no techie which is why I ask is this a major fault with the laptop or something that can be cured by drivers update etc.
I greatly apprecite any help given.
Solved!

Hi Thaiger,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue multiple issue with your G40-70 laptop.
For the audio issue please try to update the audio drivers and check for the issue,Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to your computer. Many computers have three or more jacks that connect to a sound card or sound processor, including a microphone jack, line-in jack, and line-out jack. Your speakers should be plugged in to the line-out jack. If you're not sure which jack this is, try plugging your speakers in to each of the jacks to see if any of them produce sound. In some cases, you can work around the problem by disabling optional speaker effects that are known as enhancements. If disabling speaker effects solves the problem, you might need to update your audio driver.
Click here for the audio driver if the operating system is windows 7.
Click here for the audio driver if the operating system is windows 8.
As you have mentioned the external devices are not detected try to check with different USB ports also make sure that the plugin devices are compatible as there different version of the USB as USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. as there might be compatibility issue with the connected devices.
As you have mentioned auto shutdown, please confirm if the system overheats and shutsdown.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!
Best regards,

  • Qosmio G40 cooling fan issue

Hello every body i'm the international student bought G40. I had it about nearlly half year.
I recentlly found there is problem with my G40,i usually carry my G40 to library or to my friend place, once i took G40 out of the bag and put on desk and power on,CPU fan appears nosiy.
It's kind like frame of cooling fan is changed on the move but it will gone in a very short time, around 2 or 3 mins.
As far as i know fan it's working perfect, just when I take it to somewhere else and put it out and it appears like this.
Anybody found this before, does anybody has idea what's going on with my G40?

Hi, for the first day ...i have writing ,because i dont know if the fan noise have been resolved for all the time!!! It's take near 1 1/2 hour to my TSC technician to do the job! I have waiting him !
I will tell u in the future if the problem come back! At stating, now, the noise is reduced near the normal level for the 2 to 3 first minutes, and to normal level after.

  • Qosmio G40-108: starange display issue with highest resolution

I just got mine but on its highest resolution all webpages have these 11 semi-rectangular blocks, barely visible, only the bottoms, each about an inch long, is this normal and should i send it back to be investigated?

    Hello
It is very nice to hear that you already have newest Qosmio notebook. About your issue I can not say much because without one screenshot it is not easy to understand what you mean exactly. On my Qosmio G30 (with the same HD resolution) I have no problems at all. Because of that I can really not understand what is wrong there.
If possible post a link where we can see how it looks like. Your description is not enough.
BTW: have you noticed this on web pages only?

  • BIOS issue with my Qosmio G40-10E

    Hi
Im desperate I have to access my computer before Wednesday or I could lose my job. Ive installed a SSD drive which went ok. I have adjusted the BIOS settings and now my computer wont boot .
It goes to the Qosmio logo and to a logos of hdds' usbs etc and hangs. I cant get into my BIOS as it seems to ignore the key press to go into BIOS (tried ESC, DEL, F1, F2, F8). The computer stays on the icon screen. I have taken my machine apart and removed the rtc battery its been a day but it hasnt reset the bios to default .
Has anyone any ideas? Is there a jumper/ dipp switch on mother board to reset? Is there a special key to press I dont know about? Where ahould i hit it!!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated I will be in serious trouble if I cant get my machine working I know I ahoukdnt have mapessed ith BIOS but I assumed at worse I would be able to access and reset .
Thanks o much for any advice
    phil

    > I have taken my machine apart and removed the rtc battery its been a day but it hasnt reset the bios to default
This was the worst thing you could do removing RTC battery would not reset the BIOS.
This was possible on desktop PC but doesnt work for notebooks.
To be honest your issue description isnt very useful you said you are not able to access the BIOS. If notebook does not ask for BIOS password, you should be able to access the BIOS pressing ESC and F1
I guess this should work of course in case you did not damage the motherboard by removing the RTC battery.

  • Qosmio G40 has a problem with HDDVD

    Hi,
I just bought Qosmio g40 Nice laptop but I cannot watch HDDVD movies on it.
Movie crashes sound as well I update bios Drivers for graphic card Toshiba HDDVD player but that makes no changes.
I do not know where to go and how to solve the problem Last samuraj HDDVD does not play.
    Anyone can help?

DId you already tried to recover your machine? Perhaps it could solve your problem, but I cannot promise it. Otherwise it would be interesting if this problem only occurs with this movie or with another disc.
Please grab some another HD-DVD and check if the same occurs. Maybe its an hardware related issue.

  • Qosmio G40-10Z: Question about energy use in sleepmode

When I turn my new Qosmio G40-10Z in sleeping mode, with full battery (and off the AC power), I can't start the computer next day. I can only start it up after connecting it to AC power. I get a message windows Vista wasn't closed properly and I am asked to start in normal way or safe mode.
After starting the battery indicates only 2% power. So, what is using power in sleeping mode? Why isn't the sleep mode not transferred to hibernation state when the battery is almost empty?
(New notebook, only vista and office installed and only television antenna is connected)

    Hello guys
At first I just want to write a little bit about theory. Microsoft has implemented standby/Hibernation mode to offer PC users comfortable OS usage and make switch ON/OFF time much shorter.
According to the definition standby mode should be used for short time (launch, meeting and if you must leave the notebook for few hours). Hibernation mode should be used if you leave the notebook over the night or maybe day or two. In standby mode all data will be written in RAM and to keep them notebook needs power. In Hibernation mode all data will be saved on to HDD and notebook can be switched OFF. In hibernation mode the notebook does not need permanent power supply.
For me it is really strange that you use standby mode with battery and almost 20 hours. With this I do not want to say that described battery issue is normal but for 20 hours it is logic to use hibernation mode.
Back to battery issue: only 20 hours under standby mode is really to short. I have tested it with my Tecra and after 5 days I was able to switch ON notebook as usual (only battery power supply.
In your case I see only two explanations:
    1. Somehow notebook can not switch into standby mode properly and stays running (I do not believe this because you can see if something like this happen)
    2. The battery is defective
What you should do is to contact Authorized service partner in your country. Make a call and explain the situation. Maybe you will get new battery or they should test it using your battery.
Sorry for this long posting. I wish you luck and hope you will clarify this issue very soon.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Thinkpad T61 - Embedded Web Camera, Lenovo Camera Center issues

Hello, Recently purchased a T61 with the embedded web cam.  The notebook comes with "Lenovo Camera Center" software (which is more like a portal for camera-related software) but there is no useful software that enables me to actually use the camera - for example, to record clips or take a snapshot with it.  Nor can I figure out where to get such software.  I signed up for Skype and the camera works fine in that context.  But other than that, I am at a loss.  Why did this T61 not come with some basic software to use the camera?  Or is this an issue with Vista?
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Then it should be possible. I was of the opinion that the cable already has the camera connector. Best to do is opening the bezel and taking a look. If I remember correctly it was placed left from the Thinklight.
You will need then a camera, a bracket and the small cover. You get this all in Ebay and alikes.
Take a look at the HMM for more details. Start with page 111 from the document (not from your pdf reader) => click me!

  • New G40 with a lot of problems.

Just acquired this notebook a few weeks ago and I'm having a lot of issues (not sure if they're hardware of software problems) :
    - When I press the power button in order to make the computer start, it automatically shuts down again when it's on the dark screen with "Lenovo" written, then I have to press it again to start;
    - My cursor is always with the "loading ball" on it;
    - HD use on Task Manager is most of times between 80% and 99%. CPU and RAM also have high use sometimes, the Host Service process sometimes uses about 1700 Mb of RAM. The solution center show alerts about memory too;
    - Heat on the left side;
    - System is slow;
    - Energy Manager doesn't start;

    Hi HenriqueMK,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing multiple issues with your Lenovo G40 laptop.
As you have mentioned that the system is slow try to boot the system to safe mode and check if the system is slow in safe mode.
Try to remove the dust in the fan through energy management, go to energy management and select maintainence guide and select run under fan dust removal  and check for the issue.
    Close the background running applications.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

  • R61 Graphics Card Issue

    Hello,
My R61 could not start this morning. There was 3 beeps, a long one followed by two short ones, when I pressed the power button. I looked through the internet and started to know this is a common problem for this serious, namely an issue related to the defection of the graphics card. I also learned that a possible solution is to replace a new motherboard.
My question is, will lenovo offer a FREE motherboard replacement or other solutions? My warranty has been out dated.
    The MTM is 7755-A46.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum
That beep code can mean one of the following problems:
I don't think you will get a free replacement, since the support for these models is probably EOL, but you can try anyway...
You can try to get an Intel board, could you post your 7 digit MTM code? You can find it in a black & white sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

  • Qosmio G40 - Windows 7 64bit and missing drivers

Hello..i recently upgraded my G40 to win7 64bit and have been very dismayed at all the missing drivers.
    so far
1 Cd/hd dvd drive - driver not supported on this product - it was when it was on vista 32 - now i just get cd drive error.??
2 tv tuner - no driver available
3 av controller - no driver available
4 acoustic silencer - no driver available
5 finger print software - installed driver - no hardware found?? it definatly has one ..im looking at it.
6 hdmi control manager - no driver available
7 infrared driver- no driver available
some of these drivers i can do without - (finger print im not worried about 0 but the CD/HD DVD drive is a real problem..
Im normally reasonably fine with installing all these drivers...but it seems there are non there ..or they dont see the hardware....please help.

Wait a moment you are mixing something.
Do not mix CD/DVD driver and HD DVD driver.
When you install operating system optical disc drive must be recognized properly. If you have problem watching HD DVD movies that completely other issue.
So, is optical disc drive recognized properly? Can you use music CDs and watch DVD movies?
If you cannot find Toshiba HD DVD player for 64 bit OS try to use some other players. I don't have HD DVD media and cannot test it for you.
PCI memory controller is maybe cardreader.
By the way, here is the list of all installed stuff on Qosmio G40 (Vista) so you can check if everything is installed and if there is some missing driver. Please note: some additional software is not downloadable.

    hi gerhardriza,
Just to verify, after installing the Lenovo Energy Management v7.0.3.9, aren't you able to toggle the wireless functionality by pressing F7 or Fn+F7 (hotkey mode enabled) ?
If the above steps doesn't work, try to check the following:
    1. Boot into the BIOS and ensure that the wireless functionality is enabled
      - Link to picture
    2. Under Device Manager > Network Adapters, ensure that the Wireless Driver is installed and not disabled.

  • Lenovo G40 ~ 70 ram upgrade problem

I bought a lenovo G40 ~ 70 laptop and I wanted to upgrade my ram.It contains 4gb ram and I wanted to upgrade it to 8gb .What type of ram card should I buy and after the upgrade will my computer have problems? thank you.

    Hi Ayato,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are looking for RAM upgrade for your Lenovo G40-70 laptop.
As per the specification of this model , the maximum memory supported by this model is upto 16GB DDR3L 1600Mhz.Hence I would suggest you to look into DDR3L RAM as the RAM slots in the laptop will only support the same. And "L" in DDR3L refers to low voltage.
Click here for the model specification.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

    http://www.asklaptopfreak.com/laptop-notebook-help/2007/07/08/toshiba-qosmio-g30-screen-problem/
My Qosmio G30 is already death I have got a estimate from official service, to repair my qosmio cost almost 600 pounds. Is a design fault. Look on internet.

Sorry for it. I bought the Qosmio in July 2007. I contacted not seller but direct authorized service of Czech Toshiba in Brno (we have others two in Prague and Hradec Kralove). In Brno they told me "it is normal". I has also trouble with display, it came scratchy from keyboard after a while (before I used the Dell XPS and not trouble as this at all, only there replaced for the start fens, twice graphic card, chipset, twice motherboard, once grr my English, the box which is on power line :) and they decided that this piece have some troubles so gave me money back. I bought this Qosmio because I read some review where it was mentioned as great machine. Hm, but it surprised me that they told me that only with Vista it can be sell. I tell you this time Vista just started and some blinking screen surprised them. At last they told "it is normal" again. They told me to the strips over my jobs and collapsing program (Photoshop) that it was not sell with this notebook so not warranty with this. When I asked them what about a game program which will not run on this notebook if it is normal, they told yes, not warranty. When I asked them where is on NVidia driver for Vista that it is strange that still not there, they told me use the new Toshiba driver. I told them I used and it is not working very well. At last they told that in original configuration (it means with the original old driver) it was working very well. I told yes, till this moment when it was totaly empty and you have been surfing on the web or doing nothing. Also programms as Windows Media Center was not working at all.. they told upgrade will be soon... At winter 2008 came first time driver from NVidia on the web for Vista. It select it automaticaly, if it overwrite my original drive GeForce Go 7600 to 7650 it was working much better that the Toshiba one. But still collapsing windows after a while, windows which has inside black or window from program which was open under it or only desktop. It got overheat always. Everything with my jobs last to long. I was seating and watching processing, windows over windows, strips over it.
The last summer they did diagnostic for it and found nothing wrong. It was August 2008. I contacted also one of high managers of Czech Toshiba. He wrote me that I have to change service station. But I was 3 days before half year trip overseas. In September came this issue from Toshiba about replacement and troubles with cards.
See links where the trouble is. The graphic card has troubles in all computers everywhere, not only in Qosmio. I think Toshiba did also mistake with Vista on this notebook. I am sure with XP it should work much better

The two mens in Brno CHG Toshiba (service) I know personaly. Also the manager has private contact to me. Nobody wrote: Hana come back!
I pay fot this notebook over 80.000 CZK. In this time it was approx. over 3.000 Euro. I am working with photographs and truly this slow machine was for over 2 years big break for me!
I like to be fair and never will wrote what is not true. To display: serie G40 have much stronger frame. Anyone can tell me why? They argue that I am puting something heavy on it. Maximum my glases which I am using not very offen. If you take sides of this notebook, or if you put something under one of stands, it is flexible. They told me you have to use something between keyboard and display. Well, I should but trouble is that when I bought it was not included, nowhere in manual it is mentioned. My last notebooks were without trouble as this as well (both 17").
I was not only one not happy customer http://www.asklaptopfreak.com/laptop-notebook-help/2007/07/08/toshiba-qosmio-g30-screen-problem/comment-page-1/#comments
to this all. I am using laptop every day and at service they told me that I have replace everything an put everything in original so they will check if it is working. I have not time to do everything, backup and after it installing all back! Truly if somebody used not correct components why customer have to be in so big troubles?
I asked specialist for report. I told him about my troubles and his answer was that he did one return the last year. The display have on sides holes and via this is going in to the display dirt (have all ready this there also). I will claim money return and payment of the expert when I came from my business trip. I hope I will be able to buy another laptop at first so I can continue my job without delay.
Sorry for so long writing and for my not best English. Sorry that I have to write it at all. Be sure I will prefere to be happy customer!
    Regards, Hana

  • G40-70 with no optical drive

    Hello everyone,
I recently purcahsed a G40-70 last week that did not come with an optical drive.  Lenovo has recently changed the specs on the same model laptop to where it contains an DVD drive now. I would like to know if not having a optical drive will affect the performance and weight of the laptop? I am contemplating about returning it back to get the optic drive installed if there is no difference in portability and performance.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
The optical drive will add very, very, little weight to the laptop so that is not an issue.  As for performance, until needed the optical drive will just sit there not using any Windows Resources.
Optical drives overall can be very useful.  They are great for listening to CD music, watching a recorded DVD or making backup copies of data.  In an emergency they can be used to boot up the computer with various rescue discs to recover files.
