G4050 slides sharpness

With the latest G4050 software on a Windows7 - 32bit PC, when scanning slides, I can choose sharpness (none, low, normal etc.) but the result is always: soft
I had this scanner previously on a Windows2000 pc, and with that older software, there was no problem.
Is this a bug? How can I solve this?

  • Transition and Effect Problems

two problems: 1) i cannot add transitions to my movie. it says the clips are too short and must be 3:46:16 each! but the clip preceding are 7 and 10 seconds long! what do i do? 2) when i want to make a clip black and white, i go to the effects section. i apply it to the clip i want B&W. BUT, when i apply it, it sometimes makes the clip black (just a black screen for the clip with the applied effect). what do i do?

. it says the clips are too short and must be 3:46:16 each! but the clip preceding are 7 and 10 seconds long!
    3:36:16 reads as 3minutes, 36 seconds, 16 frames..
you can not apply a 3min long transition to a 10sec clip...
make the transition shorter... 00:00:09 ....
    for your B/W problem:
if you're using the 'Quarz Composer b/w', use the slider 'sharpness' to set it correctly...

  • Scanjet G4050- How to scan multiple slides at one time with Image Capture

Using Scanjet G4050 with Mac and OS 10.6.  Thus using Image Capture to control scanner.  When using the slide template for 16 slides, Image Capture only allows me to select one slide at a time.
Is there a way to fill the template with 16 slides and have Image Capture scan all 16 slides without having to select each one in turn?  It is a real pain to have to direct each scan.

    Hi jpbear
I am going to take credit for finding the solution that the HP Photo Suite from OSX 5 works in subsequent Mac OSX. Look at this web page.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4019&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3236...
If this doesn't work for you, I am willing to guide you to finding the page. I downloaded a copy a few minutes ago and it was still available. The Photo Suite is actually an amazing set of applications but the one you want to use with your HP ScanJet  G4050 is HP Scan Pro. I continue to use it with OSX 9 but other people have reported that it continues to work with OSX 10 as well. It allows me to scan the 16 slides on the bed individually with one pass. It also has some colour balancing function.

  • Why are slide show images less sharp than preview images?

    Dear Aperture users,
as documented in the manual and on Apple's support pages, Aperture 3 uses the preview images for its slide show. However, when I compare the quality of my preview images in full-screen mode with the quality of the slide show images, the preview images clearly look sharper.
Apparently, Aperture's slide show does not simply use the preview images as documented, but applies some sort of "adjustment", resulting in less crisp looking images. Since I haven't found any satisfying answer yet, my questions are:
1). What exactly is the adjustment that slide show applies to the preview images?
2). Can I somehow tweak this adjustment, say, with a terminal command?
    Best regards,
    Dirk61.

iPhoto can make two different types of slide show movies. It would help to know which you're making.
One is made via the File/Export to QuickTime movie and makes a 4 track file with a simple fade effect. These use the Photo-JPEG codec.
The other is a 30 fps "video" using H.264 video codec via the "Share" menu.
A third method (rarely used) is to Export to iDVD. This makes an absurdly high data rate MPEG-4 video. This is also found under the Share menu.
The MPEG-4 video codec also includes an "automatic" gamma correction feature which compensates for the gammas difference between Mac's and PC's.
Try one export to iDVD. Include your audio track prior but use a high quality (.aiff) sound file. No need to actually "burn" the DVD. You can even close iDVD after it opens. You'll find the new movie in your Users Movie folder.
Open it with QT Pro and export to a new .mov file. Adjust the data rate to something more reasonable and add some audio compression.
If the colors still look too dark you can use the built in Filters in the Export dialog. You can adjust B&C or HSL or even use ColorSync Profiles that can help correct the image quality (if needed).

  • Sharp Pictures for Slide Show

I am trying to use Premiere Elemments to create a slide show from pictures taken with a digital camera. When I import the pictures they are clear and sharp - the same way they appear when I view them individually using other tools. When I put them together is a show they all lose the sharpness. FYI, I have the same results with several other "movie makers."  Am I using the right tools? Is there a fix for this "problem," some where in this 500M program?
    Rich, a.k.a., X-Gino-X

Thanks, this is helpful.  Now at least, I understand why none of these programs is giving me the results I am looking for. Now, how do I resize my photos to try this out?  FYI, I just tried Power Point and have all the original quality without the added step. Of course Power Point doesn't have all the features I am looking for, but I was able to do most everything I wanted in a very short time.  I am certain that Power Point isn't converting the data to a video format and I won't be able to write the output to a DVD, but I will be able to show Slide Shows using my computer to drive my HD TV.
    Thanks again,
    Rich

  • Major Loss of Sharpness iDVD Slide Show

Sorry if this seems like just a re-hash of the "Loss of Saturation" thread, but wow....what a disappointment. Actually I was shocked at the result of my first DVD created in iDVD. The images are so soft I'd be embarrassed to give this to someone to view. I shot the pics at ISO 200 inside with available light with my Canon PowerShot G5 at next to the highest resolution (Superfine 1600X1200), all images saved as JPEG's, no photo editing done. The images are very sharp in iPhoto.
Would shooting at ISO 100, highest resolution, or saving as TIFF or other format result in sharper images in the finished product or is this just the nature of the beast?
I can certainly try it out myself this weekend but was wondering if anyone else found a way to get sharp, well saturated images in an iDVD slide show.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dale

    Dale,
Since nobody else answered your other question, let me weigh in. It doesn't matter what ISO you shot the images at, if they look right in iPhoto or Photoshop or whatever software you're editing (or not editing) in. In theory the image you see in iPhoto (or iMovie or iDVD) should be what your final image looks like when you burn to DVD and play it on your TV. The problem you'll have is getting the saturations to match since your TV is working off an entirely different set of color and saturation settings than your computer. When I'm editing and working through colors for a DVD slideshow presentation I'll actually connect my powerbook to my TV and edit the photos directly on the television, thus giving me the correct colors (even though they usually look like crap on my Mac, they look right on the TV)
    Hope that helps a little.

  • My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show.

My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show. How can I prevent this from happining??

    Hi,
I suggest that you try unchecking both of the crop options - landscape & portrait.
To re-create your situation, I had to check the crop for landscape pictures option.
I prefer to have control over any cropping so I tend to crop each image first before creating the slide show.

  • Sharpness slider has disappeared

I've been using Lightroom 5 for a few months, I noticed this week that when in Develop mode my Sharpness slider has disappeared. The drop down for all options in Develop are open, but it has disappeared as one of my options (except under the adjustment brush). Can anyone help?

'Sharpening' sliders can be found in 'Detail' panel on right track of Develop module. If you can't see the 'Detail' panel then right click on header of any other right side panel and reactivate 'Detail' from the drop down menu.

  • I made a slide show using imovie.  When I play it back on my imac, the slideshow looks perfect.  However when I burned in via iDVD and play the disc, the resolution drops off.  The video appears fuzzy and not sharp.  Any ideas why?

I made a slide show using imovie.  When I play it back on my imac, the slide show is crystal clear and sharp.   I burned a disc of the slide show using iDVD.  When I played the dvd the resolution is very poor.  Fuzzy and shakey images.  I tried various solutions, Apple tec told me to go to preferences on iDVD  and select "professional" to get higher resolution. Tried that but results still the same.  Any ideas?

When you play on your Mac, you can have resolution up to 1920x1080.
When you burn to iDVD you convert to 640x480.

  • Scanjet G4050, scanning 35 mm slides

I have just bought a Scanjet G4050, because it was able to scan many slides in one scan.
Using a PC wind OS Windows 8.1 x64, and downloaded the driver from HP homepage.
What I experience is, when loaded the frame with 16 slides, that not all slides are recognized, as seen on the screendump below.
I really hope there is a solution to this problem, otherwise my investment in the scanner are waisted, which makes me very unhappy.
    Kind regards

  • Scanning slides on Scanjet 4850 vs. Scanjet G4050 photo scanners

Have new Dell desktop running Windows 8.1, 64.  Old photo scanner HP Scanjet 4850, previously used with Windows XP Media Edition, still works on photo prints but will no longer scan 35 mm slides.  Thinking of buying HP Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner but first need to know if it is fully compatible with Windows 8.1 and thus will scan my slides.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
I would first suggest trying a 3rd party scanning application such as VueScan, it shouls support Slides scanning and may provide you a workaround for your current Scanjet 4850, you may install a free trial first and check if that might do the trick for you:
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_4850c.html
Other than that, the G4050 do support slides scanning and fully supported on Windows 8.1 with the Full Feature Software below:

  • SHARPNESS ON CD COPY FROM SLIDE SHOW

Way the copy on CD-R 700MB from slide show lose sharpness?

If you mean you made a VCD, those always look hateful. That's just what VCD is like. If you have a DVD burner export your slideshow as a wmv file and use whatever software came with your burner to make a video dvd instead.
