G4MX440-T on K7T266 Pro

This is a strange one.
This VGA card works on an ASUS P4B533 and on an MS-6309.  BUT...
fails to post on a K7T266 Pro Ver 1.0
and fails to post on a K7T266 Pro2 RU
A GF2MX400 works fine on both the 266's
I think I am getting mad......
the Two Failing systems were striped down to:
xp1800 CPU
512Mb DDR One stick
the offending card. GF4MX440-T
a 300w supply (same supply was used with the p4)
latest BIOS on all units.
Drivers irrelevent as no post....
any ideas...
anyone..

GeForce4 TI works.. the Geforce4 MX is a lemon anyways, get a GeForce3 or a Radeon 8500 instead..
I have to disagree, I had the oportunity to test the 8500 head to head against the GF4MX440 on both a
P4 1.6 and an XP1800+
the P4 was an 845 chipset and VIA266A for the AMD
the GF4MX left the ATI in the dust in both cases and at less $$$$ My suppliers show the lowest config of an 8500 to be about $175.00c and the GF4MX440 to be $125.00c there is only one GF3 still availible and its way outa reach 500+ some capture etc etc setup.
The 8500 has 128mb the GF4 64 and the ATI has a few more features in bump maping etc. but the GF4 beat its ass anyhow.
3dm scores:
P4 ATI8500=8752
P4 GF4MX440=9127
AMD ATI8500=9213
AMD GF4MX=10091
Systems both had 512-pc266-cas2
40 gig maxtor 7200

  • Having trouble installing Radeon 7500 into K7T266 Pro

I am having all sorts of problems switching from my nVidia TNT 2 (MaxiGamer Cougar) video card to my new Radeon 7500.  I am running an AMD Athlon 1400 with 512 MB DDR RAM.
    I have the K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) chipset.
Can anyone think of what I am missing here.  I think I have all the updates AGP drivers I need but I am not sure.  I get lock ups prior to windows starting everytime. Even in safe mode.
    Grrrr.

I ended having to format my c drive.  Windows began doing some really funny things and then never started again with old or new video cards.  I have re-installed windows but now sometimes my monitor stays blank when I start the computer.  It is supposed to wake itself up but when it does, it has no picture.  To solve this I shut down and flick the switch on the back and discharge everything.  It then works again for another few times.  Do you think this may be a problem with my power supply?  I have an Enermax 350W.  I bought it when I built the computer and figured it would have plenty of juice.
    Thanks for you help

  • K7T266 Pro R and Geforce 2 GTS problem

Hello everyone. I have been experiencing a problem for some time now regarding lockups and crashes caused by my video card, which vary in severity depending on the driver version used. Since I'm using an MSI K7T266 Pro Raid mobo (version 1) I thought I'd post my question here.
The exact problem depends on the driver version. Using any Nvidia Detonator drivers at version 40 or newer, my system becomes extremely unstable. On first booting everything seems fine, however if I try to open my Geforce display properties the Windows freezes during the redraw of the display properties window, which goes blank. Sometimes I can call up Close Programs Dialog, which shows DDHELP in the list, and [not responding]. I've never actually gotten an error message from DDHELP or any other error message -- perhaps the computer jams too hard for Windows to get one up. I've seen reports around the Net about DDHELP problems from things like DirectX 8.1, but they're never quite like my problem. The problem is identical on DirectX 8.0, 8.1, and on 9.0.
No matter what I try to do in Windows with these drivers installed, the computer will lock up in seconds. For example, if I then open IE 5.5, I might be able to get as far as a page or two before the similar thing happens: during the window redraw the computer locks up (usually with a blank or partially-redrawn window), sometimes causing the mouse to lock and sometimes not, and then if I can get the Close Program Dialog open DDHELP has appeared and is Not Responding.
The most stable driver version I've found so far is 29.42, which does not cause the lockup above and never causes DDHELP to appear. However, it is quite unstable as well, and causes Windows to lock up sporadically during 2D window redraws in various programs. For example, when calling up a Save Document dialog or when opening a pulldown menu the program will lock either before any of the redraw becomes visible on screen or when the new dialog box is "skeletal", only partially drawn. Sometimes the crash is severe enough that I have to do a cold restart on my system.
The other problem is that sporadically garbage blocks will appear in portions of my screen, like old windows and color bands popping up that do not refresh. This often happens to me in Photoshop 6, and happens usually when I'm scrolling down a window or something.
These problems with version 29.42 all appear to be 2d window-drawing related. I do not have any problems with 3d games with 29.42. However, the new reference drivers are so unstable on my system that I can't even try to open them.
With 29.42, the most stable drivers I've found so far, some kind of lockup due to redrawing windows almost always occurs within an hour (sometimes minutes) of booting up.
For what it's worth, dxdiag tests just fine.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's causing the trouble, what driver I should use, and how to resolve it. If possible, I'd really like to use the newer drivers as I've been told they're much faster. In any event, I hate having such an unstable system where lockups could occur at any moment!
Here's the lowdown of my system:

  • [VIA] K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard: Windows XP on a RAID ARRAY (fasttrak100 LITE)

    Hi All!
    I have a
MSI  K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard, BIOS is the latest, official from MSI website,
Problem short description: Windows XP (sp1 or sp2 english, I tried both)
will not install when I set 2 x 40 Gig = ~80 Gig Stripe Array.
    detailed description:
motherboard K7T266 PRO- RU  BIOS 1.9 AMI BIOS.
AMD ATHLON XP 1700 + "Palomino" microprocessor, at default speeds.
one piece of 512 PC 3200 RAM, can tell details later.
    Power supply: 400 W CODEGEN model : 300X.
HDD-s : one IBM deskstar, fully functional, and a SEAGATE barracuda. seagate SEATOOLS, IBM DFT 32 no errors both.
I set in the FASTTRAK 100 LITE "PDC20276R" (written on the chip) bios a STRIPE array. Powerquest drive magic , or the Windows XP CD handles it fine , as a 80 gig disk.
I downloaded ALL available versions of the FASTTAK 100 LITE driver from the MSI website.
(only tried: MSI driver FASTTRAK 100 lite, the only available driver on the MSI website, and various drivers from www.promise.com) ( http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=15&category=driver&os=0&go=GO ) (but I guess they WONT support my raid controller on the motherboard)
Windows XP CD , booting, Press F6 for additional RAID /SCSI drivers, I put in the floppy, choose WinXP fasttrak lite driver, windows continues, even formatting the 80 GIG disk, copy files- access the FASTTRAK.SYS driver, EITHER it says: no fixed disk present, press F3 to exit windows setup, or windows setup continues, copies files, reboots, and then STOP ERROR
    http://www.martin555.dyndns.org/stop.jpg
please, help me with the following:
how to install XP on a raid array.
is it worth, will it be little bit faster disk load times etc?
is it secure if I trust the HDD-s?
any clue, how to overclock the AMD 1700+ athlon XP palomino to its maximum, but still stability?
AND : I read a lot about some MOD-ded BIOS called " KUNIBERT"  , which makes the LITE raid to a FULL RAID and some other extras? where to get it and what to do?
email me if you can    martin5   "at"   freemail.hu
    THANKS !

pardon me, dump? my english is not very perfect.. you mean to trow away, replace to something better, more stable power supply, more powerful?
you must see... first I would like to resolve the "installing XP on a raid array" problem,( how is it possible, is it worth, will it speed up hard disk access and load times... etc... ) and after that maybe I  will OC the machine...
it is now , with a 8 cm ventillator and a large aluminium cooler 39 Celsius IDLE and goes to 45 Celsius during EVEREST benchmarking test. (temperatures on 1700+ default setting and OC-'d to 1900+. just experiencing with it. ) (I saw the toms hardware guide movie , smoking processors..)
    cheers, Marton.

  • K7T266 Pro and Maxtor hd

Could someone please tell me if there are problems between my K7T266 Pro and Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 (6Y160P0)?
    Thanks 4 answer

    There should be no problem.

  • K7t266 Pro IDE

When Looked at my MoBo I noticed two extra IDEs for the model I had. When I looked in the manual it showed the two extra IDE's on the K7T266 Pro-R, but my box says K7t266. Did I get the wrond Mobo in the box? Anyway when I went to hook a new harddrive up to one of them it was not found, I tried in the other and still not found. I ended up hooking it up as a slave on my  other hardrive.

When I purchased this board, there was two manuals inside. One for the mobo and one for Lite-RAID, which was new function at that time. Manual was not very accurate.
Anyways, if you want to activate that RAID-function, you will have lots of help-replies here.
    For manual, try Msi support-site.

  • NEED HELP! Modem keeps disconnecting w/K7T266 Pro & WinXP

    My system:
    K7T266 Pro
    Athlon 1333MH
    256Mb DDR 2100
    MSI GeForce 2 MX, 32Mb
    Zoom V.92 internal modem
    SB Live! 5.1
    2 x 80Gb Maxtor HD
    LiteOn 16x12x40 CD-RW
    USB mouse
    340 W Enlight Power Supply
This system worked fine on the internet when I was running Win98.  I upgraded to WinXP and now the modem keeps disconnecting shortly after connecting (but it always connects for a short period of time).
Here's what I have tried:  Reloaded WinXP Home Edition on a newly formatted HD using a clean install (not an upgrade) and the NT file system.  Loaded the latest MSI 4-in-1 drivers and upgraded Bios to latest version (v1.9).  Reloaded all the software.  Got all the latest XP drivers and WinXP updates.  Have tried 4 different brands of modems, internal and external.  Have tried modems in different PCI slots (currently using PCI slot 3 with SB in slot 4).  Have tried modem on different Com ports (currently using Com 3).  Have tried slowing down the com port speed.  There is no IRQ sharing with the modem.  Have tried different phone jacks and cords (the same ones that work fine on the older HP Win98 computer I am writing this on).  Have tried 2 different ISPs (currently using CompuServe).  Have reloaded the ISP software several times (trying different versions) and currently have their latest XP version - ISP says others are not having this problem with their software (have spent hours with their technical help with no resolution).  Not using any ad blocker or anti-virus software (yet).
Nothing I have tried has made any difference so far.  Am I missing something?  I don't want to go back to Win98!
Oh ya, another minor annoyance:  My system freezes after sitting idle for a while, even though the Windows power scheme is set to Always On and no screensaver.  Otherwise, everything else works fine.

    Hello everyone,
I was gone for a few days, but when I got home I was very happy to see some more posts to this thread!!
Last night I tried disabling the SoundBlaster (with the Windows System Device Manager).  I disabled both the sound card and the game port.  The modem was still disconnecting.
Until now I hadn't heard of Via chipsets and SoundBlasters not getting along well with each other either.  I had, however, previously tried another sound card - it was an older Diamond Monster card I had, but I couldn't find a WinXP driver for it.  It didn't work well at all with WinXP.  So back to the SoundBlaster Live! 5.1.
I did find a cure for the other problem I mentioned.  I noticed that the SoundBlaster and all 3 USB controllers were sharing IRQ 10.  I removed the USB optical mouse and tried a PS2 ball mouse.  That solved the problem where the system was freezing after sitting idle for a while.  I sure liked the optical mouse better though.  This same problem may have been related to another one I noticed.  When playing audio CDs, sometimes the sound would stop momentarily and then go on again.  I haven't yet had a chance to see if removing the USB mouse solved that problem as well.  I have also noticed that the volume of audio CDs are controlled by the wave volume and not the CD volume.  Is this normal?  I have both the analog and digital cables connected and the CD digital setting enabled.  It's very annoying, since turning the volume up on audio CDs causes the Windows wave sounds to blast me out when they play.  I don't know how to set the SoundBlaster to use one of the other unused IRQs - can anyone tell me how to?
I haven't yet tried the PCI latency patches, because I wasn't too hopeful after seeing that it didn't work for Philipponnat.
Now for the Bios.  I have always had my Primary Graphics Adapter setting on AGP.  The onboard modem and audio settings have always been set to disabled.  I was excited to see that Philipponnat found a cure for the modem disconnections with the PCI latency setting.  When I went to my computer to do the same thing, I was disapointed to find that my Bios does not have a setting by that name, either in the PNP/PCI configuration or anywhere else.  The only thing I found that looked related was one called "PCI Delay Transaction" in the Advanced Chipset Features section, but the only settings available are enabled or disabled.  Mine was set to disabled, but I couldn't tell any difference when I set it to enabled.  Maybe we have different boards - mine is version 1, but I have flashed the Bios to the latest version I found, v1.9.
I have noticed another strange thing in the Bios.  The Bios no longer detects the power supply fan speed - it always reads zero RPM in Bios even though the lead is hooked up.  The other fans show a reading.  The power supply fan used to show a reading when I first put the computer together.
I also have S.M.A.R.T. enabled.  I have 2 identical hard drives.  They are Maxtor 80Gb 7200RPM ATA133 drives which are S.M.A.R.T. capable.  Only the primary drive (master on the primary IDE) displays S.M.A.R.T values in SpeedFan.  The other drive is set as a slave on the secondary IDE (my CD-R-RW is set as the master on the secondary IDE).
There have sure been a lot of wierd things about this motherboard.  Thank you everyone for your input so far.  Still need more help!!
    John

  • Can't set fsb clock (k7t266 pro )

    Hi there,
I hope someone of you gurus is able and wanting to shed some light on my problem:
    I replaced the duron 700 on my k7t266 pro with a xp2000+
(palomino). When I want to change the fsb clock in the bios
    I can't. It stays 100Mhz
I upgraded the bios with ver 1.90, and disabled bios prot.
What is it that I'm doing wrong?
    TIA

should i try a lower version of the bios?
In the bios setup menu i don't have the possibility to load
    high-performance settings ( that option isn't there).
But maybe that is correct in ver 1.90
    thanx

  • Problem with K7T266 pro, usb not working corectly!

    Have a problem here.
My MOMO racing wheel (USB) stops responding while playing games, but the wheel works fine on my friends comp. When i start a geme, i can play it for 30-60mins, and then it just stops responding, the lights on the wheel dont glow and it seems disconnected, my only help then is to restart my comp.
    And my specs are:
    MSI K7T266 pro
    AMD athlon 1,4Ghz
    Win98SE
I use the usb ports, that are in my mainboard.
Please answer if you know about the problem, or if you have expirianced something like that.

After killing my K7N2G-ILSR, ive had to revert to my backup K7T266 ProR system. While playing UT2K3 I had those freaking random disconnects of the USB which would kill the FPS and get me fragged, after which time it would happily reconnect and work fine. My optical mouse would also disconnect like that.
I am running XP Home, VIA 4.43. I set the BIOS to read only USB1 (which didnt work). Then I installed the VIA USB filter RC-1 and havent had a disconnect problem for over 24 hours now. Get the usb filter from MSI website and good luck!

  • Processor upgrade options for K7T266 Pro 2?

    I have a K7T266 Pro 2 motherboard with a XP1700 processor.
What processors can I upgrade to? Will I need to make modifications to my MB?
Also, it has been a few years since I have built this computer.  Where is a good (cheap) source for processors, and other computer parts?

    pls help.

    Hi!
Really, I don't think this could be a hardware problem since WinXp takes more than few minutes to install, and you did it, then you installed drivers and SP1. Why did you format HD in the other PC ? I would try a new install, taking out all not necesary stuff, leaving only CPU, memory and video card and formatting again the HD. for a clean install; then go adding the other hardware one by one, installing it's drivers and rebooting each time. Finally before connecting to internet enable Firewall to prevent Blaster Worm ( Don't know if still is going around ). One thing: Be sure HD is well connected and configured: Master if is a slave conected to same wire..etc.- If again you get an error, I would look for a faulty HD.  8)

  • CPU Temps K7T266 Pro

    Hi All
    Just a few quick questions.
My computer shuts down for no apparent reason after using it for maybe 30mins but then other times it might not shut down at all.
I thought it may of been the power supply at first so went from a 200W to a 300W but still does the same thing every now and again.
My CPU temp is running around 49oC idle and SysTemp around 39oC under load its around 55-58oC using PCAlert4.(are these to high) it isnt OC'd
Also when it turns itself off i leave it for a few minutes and try and turn it back on and it just wont respond as if there is no power going to it at all.
Here is my computer in a nutshell:
    K7T266 Pro
    Athlon 1.2 gig
    Nvidia Geforce2 MX 400
    256 Ram
    Windows XP Pro
    Any help would be appreciated

  • USB drivers for Win XP K7T266 Pro

    Hello,
i was wondering if someone could direct me to the Windows XP professional drivers for my USB ports. I am using a MSI mainboard with the VIA K7T266 Pro chipset. Whenever windows restarts it attempts to install the drivers. It says that the "data" was "invalid". I have tried downloading the service pack and it did not recognise the USB drivers and i cannot download these drivers from the MSI site manually. I have also tried using the live update function on the MSI site.
Can i get another round of applause for windows XP! what a great product!!!  :(
Please help....i need to install my new USB modem and its driving me crazy.
    Thanks

    Hi,
It depends on the type of board you have.
If it's the K7T266pro V1 then you better buy a PCI USB card as the ports give problems at 133FSB anyway.
If it's the K7T266pro2 V2 then you need indeed SP1 for XP and let the ports redetect.
The V1 board has a serious USB problem at FSB133 and can't be solved by BIOS or drivers.
Only a PCI card or lowering the CPU-FSB can solve it.
The V1 board is very old and only a few have been sold a long time ago and was quickly replaced when the problem was discovered.

  • K7T266 Pro (ver 1.0) fasttrack 100 HD recognition ( 128GB)

    Hi,
I've a K7T266 Pro (version 1.0) mobo, bios 1.9, with a Fasttrack 100 Lite controller on it (bios ver 1.31M).I bought a new maxtor hd of 160 gb, but the fasttrack controller won't recognize it right (131GB), so windows does recognize it wrongly too.
If I connect the disc to the primary/secondary ide controller (non promise) then i can format it at 160GB. Although the promise controller still thinks it's a 131GB disk, windows will still see it at 160GB (although i don't know if it will keep on working: almost no data on disk yet).
I'm wondering how to resolve this problem. I saw a bios update with a solution to this problem with the K7T266 Pro 2, so will there become one for ver 1.0? Or is there already a solution?
    Many tnx in Advance,
    Ralf

    Found >this.
The guy who started the thread had the same problem. Miti made a special bios  for him but it didn't work.
Looks like there is no solution so far.
